We finally had to hire and pay another supplier and contractor to fix Howie's shoddy work and complete our project. After months of negotiations Howie / Eddy's Flooring America finally agreed to pay us a FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR ($5,000) cash settlement but only if we agreed to their SECOND lawyer's DEMAND that we sign an 11 page document (including signature pages) filled with legalese and BIZARRE requirements like "from the beginning of the world to the world ends" [sic]. Typical of Howie, their documents contained NINE spelling errors (including misspelling Howie's own last name), five corporate name errors, one location error, numerous grammatical errors, the use of 'archaic and obscure' terms like ss. (scilicet) etc. Howie demanded that we absolve him and his wife, Eddy and his girlfriend, his brother Randy down in Florida, his installer Joe Ouellette down in Connecticut et al for everything "whether known or unknown, asserted or unasserted, contingent or accrued, discovered or undiscovered" and so on for 11 pages. I reached out to Brian Nguyen of Happy Feet & Son Hardwood Flooring back in the beginning of May to discuss my vision. He said that he could install the hardwoods at the end of July, which was fine. (Unfortunately, the price of hardwoods rose during this period -- not fault of Brian's, and I gave them the green light.) He suggested I look at Mercier hardwoods online. They have beautiful hardwoods, produced in Canada. Then I went to Wood Pro in Auburn to view a sample and place my order. We ordered Mercier hickory 4 1/2" planks, ¾" thick, in natural. Wood Pro delivered last week and were wonderful, also. A crew from Happy Feet showed up at our house at 9:00 Friday morning to do the demo, as promised. It was a noisy business, but they set up plastic sheeting and protected our living room couch which we couldn't move out of the area. They were pleasant, professional, neat, and fast. They finished the demo in one day. And they hauled away all the scrap wood, leaving no trace. The next day, on a Saturday (!), they returned to install the hardwoods. Brian told my husband it was a three-day job. He lied: they were done in 1 1/2 days, much to our amazement and pleasure.
