Flora Grubb Gardens is an absolutely wonderful garden center. Upon arrival, we grabbed a couple of drinks from the coffee truck and were given a buzzer so we didn't have to wait around. While exploring, I found the perfect little snake plant--much needed redemption after my last one went off to the great garden center in the sky. When our buzzer went off, I found a cozy spot to sit. They have tons of little seating areas throughout, which makes it such a relaxing place to wander. After finishing our drinks, we went in search of a jasmine vine, and by the end we headed inside with our purchases. I have to say, the staff is lovely and very helpful. They gave us great tips on plant care and even provided paper and a box so our car wouldn't get dirty. I'm ecstatic knowing this place is just 10 minutes from us. Oh--and they have plenty of parking in their lot too. read more

If you're looking for large specimens, hard to find palms, agaves, then visit Flora Grubb Gardens. I first found out about this place when searching for nurseries that carry Ceroxylon palms. I called & asked if they have any in stock, & the employee said no, they haven't had them in a couple years. I also was told to email the buyer for any special requests. I appreciated that, because the plants I am looking for are always hard to find ! I visited this nursery for the first time & like other yelpers mention, it is easy to miss !!! Literally when exiting the freeway, it's immediately on the left. If you're not driving too fast you'll see it. Also the entrance is on mindinao way, which can be confusing for first time visitors. During my weekend trip it wasn't busy at all. There was plenty of parking & the nursery does appear small but once you wonder inside & get to looking, there's a lot !! I wouldn't say they are the cheapest, nope. If you're looking for the cheapest Bismarckia Nobilis palm, do not get one here. Just from looking at their inventory they are priced higher than most. I was impressed to see they have a large furcraea macdougallii specimen & a large brahea armata. Also other notable species I came across: Brahea Clara, Phyllostachys Nigra (black bamboo), agave celsii nova. I ended up purchasing a Caryota Obtusa which I'm so excited about. I felt like I paid a tad more than if I would of waited, but I saw the palm & wanted it immediately. When the employee loaded the palm in the car, I was surprised to see the pot wasn't covered (the top with plastic wrap) to help keep the car clean. Hopefully they see this as an opportunity for improvement. They also carry a small selection of indoor plants, & leca is also sold here. I wasn't impressed with their nutrient section at all. I would visit here, but only if I'm looking for something so specific that no where else has. read more

I drove out of my way to stop at my favorite nursery and wasn't disappointed. I wanted just a few plants and ended up spending 45 minutes looking at everything they grew. All the plants looked happy and healthy. The two guys that helped me answered all my questions and gave me advice about some plants I didn't even buy from them. If I were to ever work at a nursery, this would be the place for me. If you need a place to explore, spend a few hours here. read more

Flora Grubb Gardens is just wonderful. It is not huge, it is the perfect size, especially for a home gardener. The selection is so great. It is easy to find things and the place is so pretty inside and out. The prices are fair and parking is right in the front of the store. The service is great. We were helped by the kindest man. We needed a lot of help picking flowers that would not die in a month, because of the season change, and items that were super healthy. He was just so nice. Great garden center in the middle of a highway on ramp intersection. I bet you've passed this place saying, I want to go in there one day. We'll make today the day! I always thought that this was such an odd placement for a garden center, but you want to go in. It's a lot bigger than it looks. The prices are reasonable, the staff is very knowledgeable and they have a great selection and some plants you don't find in other garden stores. Just bought this cool little bonsai at Flora Grubb. They have some interesting plants, like a golden jalapeño plant and a burgundy ficus that we are considering for our shady front porch. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly, and the garden center is attractive and well-organized. Deducted one star because the plants, overall, are kinda boring, drought-tolerant plants. I liked Marina Nursery's selection much better. We only stopped in to get small terracotta pots. Parking lot was quite empty; it used to be very crowded before the turnover. Also, our favorite landscaping manager is no longer there. When we went to buy the bonsai, employees seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves and doing inventory than helping us purchase a $104 plant. We had been standing there for several minutes, and I finally had to ask if we could pay for the plant and leave. Just okay. Definitely not our favorite garden center. read more

I used to frequent Flora Grubbs in San Francisco, so when I found out they were opening an LA location during the same time as my move back to my hometown, I knew it was pure kismet. Like many loyal Flora Grubb fans, I purchased a few small business bonds to help crowdfund this LA location. The energy and people are clearly passionate about what they do, so I couldn't help but support! The gardens are beautiful with a decent selection of edible plants, California natives, ornamentals, and indoor plants. The selection is perfect for those working on a backyard project or for those simply looking for a gift. While I was at their grand opening, I purchased a 1 gallon Meyer lemon tree, 1 gallon fragrant pitcher sage, 6" Cedros Island verbena, and a bag of soil. Prices are affordable with comparable curations to boutique plant shops, but the prices of a small nursery. My only negative was the small selection of seeds. I would love it if they could supply more California native and cover crop seeds. Maybe a collab with the Theodore Payne Foundation is in order? Complimentary parking and car assistance are nice perks. read more

I absolutely love this garden center. I have driven by so many times and was put off by its location (squashed between the two sides of the 90 freeway). But I was persuaded to visit last week to purchase a Christmas tree by my daughters. Fantastic staff - so helpful and friendly and knowledgeable. Really good selection of healthy looking plants and shrubs. We ended up buying a succulent for my garden and a house plant, as well as some wreaths and the tree. The tree is gorgeous, by the way. A really healthy beautiful specimen. I will definitely be back. read more

I hadn't been here for years but came by to look for a tree and some drought tolerant plants for my front yard. The store has been remodeled and the new look is much cleaner and less cluttered and is well designed and laid out. I was very pleased to meet Annelise, who brings an artist's sensibility to her work in caring for and recommending plants and flowers and trees. She helped me find the perfect tree for my California cottage yard makeover and also some of the most colorful and fragrant lavenders around. Also, my kids love Patches the cat. The new owners have done a great job with remodeling the main building. Beautiful sliding wood doors and more space for parking. But the improvements are only visual. I miss the super-knowledgeable staff when this was the marina garden center. There are no native plants anymore (which is odd in this severe climate change era), and no organic herbs (the selection of herbs in general is abysmal and weirdly over-priced compared to what the previous owners kept in stock). While I love the space, the plant selection is pretty generic. It's as if one of those "farm house" developers abducted Marina Garden Center and flipped the store into an aggressively dull nursery. Maybe it appeals to the Playa vista tech bros, but for the most part, it's disappointing for longtime gardeners. read more

I've been shopping at this awesome location for years, that said, I feel that customer service has slipped. In the last four times I've came to shop NO ONE asked me if I needed assistance, no one smiles, not a single team member seems to even care if I had a good experience! Additionally, the front are has been under renovation for months, all the native plants were removed and now it's a giant empty field of dirt. It's quite the eye sore! I hope customer service will be improved because I sue don't feel welcomed anymore. read more

I am a hardcore, obsessive gardener that is always seeking out the best garden nurseries and I have finally found it. This place is incredible. There is a lovely selection of pots in pastel shades that I have never seen before. Pale shades of lavender, light yellow and peach. The plant selections are plentiful with excellent varieties in every size. So if you have a tight spot and need to start out small, you can find it here. We were customers when it was Marina Del Rey Garden Center. We love the newly renovated store and nursery! It's spacious inside and the staff are welcoming. Flora Grubb Gardens are highly recommended for quality plants, excellent customer and delivery services! We purchased few palms and they delivered them within a day as scheduled. The delivery reps swept the fallen dirt off our driveway before departing. They were accommodating and friendly although the three palms were large and heavy. Analise (nursery staff) was very knowledgeable and helpful at the store--she showed me several large sago palms and triple-Pygmy Date palm and texted an image too. The prices are higher than Home Depot, but the quality and services are worth it. read more
