All the workers/volunteers were exceptionally kind and there was still a lovely plant selection late in the afternoon. In addition to the free plants they had lots of other items for purchase. I was excited to check this place out. The location is cute, not as many plants as I expected, but still nice. The prices were a bit more on the higher side, but I was willing to pay as it was a black/brown owned business and I wanted to support. I am somewhat sadden to have the plant I purchased to already have some leafs turning yellow.. as it hadn't even been 5 days since I bought it. Now I know I don't have the best green thumb, but 5 days is kinda fast for even me for it to be dying. So, not sure I can continue to try and support sadly. read more

Love Love Love "The Plant Chica"!!! My daughter was referred by one of her friends to purchase a plant. It was so refreshing and just a touch of nature right in LA. I could actually just chill there the whole day that's how peaceful and beautiful it is. The plants are gorgeous and I really appreciated Sandra's knowledge about all the plants and how to care for them. I love to support black businesses! The prices are comparable to other nurseries. This place is dope! So many plants for sale as well as cute flower pots. The owner was also super helpful and answered any questions we had. We purchased the Tropic Snow+ Peperomia Hope + Flower Pots with the little bottom water catcher and it cost $91.98. They do offer more affordable plants if you are interested. P.S. once i make room in my apartment I'm coming back to get me a monstera plant. It's super dope that the day we were there they were also using the space for a queer poetry reading event. read more

let me just tell you how absolutely obsessed with this place i am . what initially caught my eye was the sign when i was across the street from nappily naturals . i loveee that ive learned so much so far and that it is so tranquil , inclusive, loving , informative , and community filled . i came back thinking that i would be able to grab a patty from ackee bamboo and get some new plants and chill but they are closed so for now i will simply walk to ora , grab my drink and come back to add wonderful plants to my backyard garden . so far the plants i have are thriving ! read more

I'm so happy I found this locally owned nursery!!!! I was so excited and happy with my two purchases that i came back same Day!! With my bf and we bought more! We talked a lot with Ben who was so so nice and helped us with plant care, tips etc. I love that it's black and brown owned! We also appreciate that Ben provided us with plant cards that give you tips on the origin of the plant and plant care! They also have a Plant care doc once a month where you can bring your plant and they can diagnose it for you! How cool is that!!! We'll definitely be back! read more

I've reviewed quite a few nurseries recently, but The Plant Chica has a special "homey" touch of love to it. This is probably the result of Ben and Sandra's care and presence! Plant Chica is on Jefferson, slightly past and behind Mel's Fish Shack. The sign is quite unassuming, so it's easy to overlook (see picture). I didn't see a parking lot for the shop, but there is plenty of street parking on either of the parallel streets. Their small little setup is a brilliant and fun. You have a variety of plants and sizes to choose from, and several large sizes as well! If I didn't already have a large Bird of Paradise and Dracaena, I would have been tempted to buy one here. I found the perfect English Ivy for around $30 after 25% off though, and it was plant love at first sight. There are also rare plants that range in pricing, so if you're a collector, here is a possible spot to check out. I will definitely be returning, even if it's just to support this sweet little business! read more

Super friendly service. Love the selection of plants - they're colorful and unique! They're having a 30% off all plants sale right now too which was such a nice surprise. Took home two new babies and am so excited to watch them bring more life into my apartment. Also love the way this shop is set up in a lil greenhouse garage type environment with a swing in the shop. They also sell pots for the peeps that need one last min! read more

Kyle was amazing helping me pick a new plant for my classroom. He showed me different options and told me what kind of care the plant would need. There was no pressure and I felt confident that I could take care of this beauty. The ambiance was calm, peaceful, and overall beautiful. Kyle also showed me what the plant would look like inside a new pot because eventually I would have to buy one. Today was my first visit to The Plant Chica after realizing I only work 2 mins away. I've followed their journey through Instagram for awhile and I was happy to get to meet Sandra in person. First, let me say how wonderful it is to have a plant oasis in the area. Second, it is Black and Brown owned and I will ALWAYS go the extra mile to support my Brown/Black brothers and sisters in this life. I live in Glendale and get to go to all kinds of plant stores at all times. So it is refreshing to be able to visit a well curated store in this area of Los Angeles. It is desperately needed here and you can tell Sandra is proud of her city and it was important for her to have her business here as well. Now the deets: great plant selection, also a great selection of rare plants if you like to indulge in the finer green tings. Green house space is large and open for all their events. Prices are in line with most other nurseries. If you live in the area and want to spend your hard earned money on plants, then come meet Sandra and support her business while you plantify your life! Today was my second visit and love this plant shop! It's BIPOC owned and my favorite is the juxtaposition of the greenery displayed in a metal building that was previously a car mechanic garage. So cool! I learned that off of their Instagram, which you should follow for all their free events :) I really appreciate that they give back to the community as well like "Adopt a Plant Day" and a night market supporting other local BIPOC vendors/artists! A previous reviewer said their prices are not justifiable "given the quality and location" but all I saw were great quality shiny new plants that I wanted to take home and add to my collection. The idea that this shop should charge less because of where they are located doesn't make any sense. As a Latina myself I feel like they deserve all the business they can get and very much deserve to claim the space they have - especially on Jefferson where things are changing. Pricing to me was justifiable and relatively the same to what I've seen in other shops. Rare plants are more than triple the price on Etsy or sellers online in comparison. Today I picked up two philodendron micans aka velvet heartleaf philodendron and one hoya Hindu rope! I can't believe I have these in my collection now when they were impossible to find in person a year ago. These were not rare plant pricing just regular pricing. I love the rare beauties, but I have patience to wait it out for when they're more readily available. It makes it more exciting for me to randomly run into them in stores some time later! They've had great customer service every time I've visited so I'm more than happy to spend my money here, go back, and support Sandra THE Plant Chica and her family! I've been to tons of plant shops on the Westside and this is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST. The prices are some of the most affordable you'll find in all of LA and I love any opportunity to support a BIPOC-owned business, so this place is perfect for me. Sandra is so kind and helpful, plus her plant cards that come with each new baby are above and beyond what any other shop does. Can't recommend them enough!! WOW! A hidden little gem. Great to shop while waiting for food next door at Mel's Fish Shack. Very rare indoor and outdoor plants. You can not tell from the outside, enter the green house and be prepared for a nice surprise. The owner, Sandra, welcomed me and took time to answer my questions. I wasn't expecting to buy anything, but this strange Hanging Turtle pant just kept calling me LOL. Very nice shop, I felt an immediate calm upon entering. I just want to share with anyone who will listen, the Plant Chica is a touch of heaven in the center of town. I appreciate being able to come my local plant shop and purchase a pothos or a super rare, highly sought after pink princess. The shop is a beautiful boutique vibe and the quality of staff and plants is top shelf. Every time I leave there, I'm more excited about my next visit. Stumbled upon this cute plant shop in Culver City based off of other Yelp reviews and so glad we did! It's located off of Jefferson Blvd. right behind Mel's Fish Shack with plenty of street parking. We were the first customers of the day greeted by Tim and omg he was awesome!! He was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. He was knowledgeable and kept checking in on us. He told us about the couple who owned it and we love supporting small businesses especially owned by BIPOC! Everything that day was 25% off so we got a couple beautiful, hanging marble pothos that were already vining. Tim told us they always have some discounts going on so follow their Instagram or just ask when in store. They had a cute area outside of the "greenhouse" that had pots and plants that needed "TLC" (tender, loving care) according to Tim and that section was free! Crazy! They also had a little book nook which I assumed was like a take one, leave one kind of thing. They had a large table of "rare" plants and their prices reflected it but were also included in the discount! Me, not being super knowledgeable of plants but wanting to be, dared not let my black thumb touch them. I'll definitely be back, probably today, to get more of those beautiful pothos and they had a good selection of large plants too which I've been eyeing. read more

This is, hands down, my favorite nursery in all of Los Angeles! The plants are well taken care of, reasonably priced and sold by a lovely couple who are very knowledgeable about what they have. I have bought a few things from here, but my two most prized possessions are a gorgeous, lush "Janet Craig" Dracaena and a Whale Fin Snake Plant. You won't be sorry you visited this place! read more

This is such a great little shop! The owners were so friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked up (and everyone was wearing masks for safety). For it being such a small space, they had a large variety of plants! Went home very happy with a large palm, a 12 inch pot, AND they gave a free Easter "gift" (a 4" golden pothos)! Every time I've stopped by I've taken home a gorgy hun of a plant. The people there are super friendly and helpful. They give you tips on watering and a little card with fun fact and details of your specific plant type. It's located on the corner of Jefferson & Farmdale behind Mel's Fish Shack. I finally stopped by here today after having heard about this local plant shop for months if not a year now. I needed an Xmas present for an aunt who loves plants and wanted something new for my place. The owner was very nice and gave me several suggestions. I settled on something I thought would look good in my aunt's place and got a Calatheas for myself. The Plant Chica includes care cards with info on each plant so you don't have to worry once you get home how to care for your new plants. Highly recommend and will be going back read more

I really wanted to like this nursery. It's locally and BIPOC owned. But the three times I've been there, the staff was not friendly. I asked basic questions about availability of certain plants and was met with a discernible tinge of annoyance. Which is strange because I saw them acting very welcoming to other guests during past visits and today I was the only customer. I hate to think that it was anything more than a bad day for the staff. And this would be a three-star review if not for the fact that I think their prices are not justifiable given the quality and location. Even with the 25% off promotion. I would never spend what they're asking for for their rare plant section. And you shouldn't either. Even their uncommon and common houseplants are priced very high given the current market. There are so many great locally owned POC plant shops in LA and I don't see myself ever coming back. Thanks for considering my review. read more

I found this place on Tik Tok about 8 months ago, and I happened to stumble upon it before it blew up too big. Here, I was able to find some of my wishlist plants at a reasonable price including the calathea orbifolia, monstera peru, and some alocasias. She also had monstera thai constellation and monstera albos at some point, but these sell out extremely fast. This is a small business/family-owned, and you really feel the care with the plants. They also have an instagram page, where they post calendars for every month for all the events they post - they usually have fun plant clinics (where you can bring your plants for repotting or plant advice if you're having a little trouble) in addition to other fun events such as an easter egg hunt (where adults get free plants and kids can also play). There's also free plants (i believe one per person) that are in need of a little more love to bring back to life. I also recently ordered plants online, which I have always been skeptical about - and it shipped within a day and was packaged really carefully to make sure the plant was intact. Now, they are flourishing in addition to all the other plants I have gotten in person! Sandra also is really good with faces and whenever I come back, checks up on the other plants I bought - it really makes you feel special! read more

Established in 2018.

Th plant business started as a side hustle after we had our son. We just wanted to have an extra source of income to provide for our little family. We didn't know how far it would take us, but we didn't mind the work because it was something we loved.

It was growing and obviously didn't have room to spread. The original plant had about 4 or 5 leaves. Look at it now. Armstrong replanted it for me and gave me fertilizer that needs to be used every 6 (!) months. Also got the beautiful terracotta-colored shiny pot and saucer. This is my go-to place. In the past I bought most of the new plants for my garden here, and Armstrong delivered them. Love this place.

After finishing our drinks, we went in search of a jasmine vine, and by the end we headed inside with our purchases. I have to say, the staff is lovely and very helpful. They gave us great tips on plant care and even provided paper and a box so our car wouldn't get dirty. I'm ecstatic knowing this place is just 10 minutes from us. While the value is good because you are able to find most of the items needed for any project, yet no value out in the parking lot. In the parking lot, it seemed like there are more people outside the store than there was inside the store. 1) there are people looking for work, 2) there are people asking for money (seems like they are also a lookout to see anything of value in the vehicles, 3) a few out looking what to steal, and 4) ladies selling sandwiches. As I was walking towards the store with my father, I felt something off and decided to go back to the car. I'm glad that I did. There was a person asking for money as well as looking into other peoples vehicles. So when going to this location, make sure you go with someone else that could stay in the vehicle while you shop.
