Mole Short Rib - the best thing we ordered here
    Wendy L.

Flora Loca Rooftop Cantina is located on the 5th floor of Springhill Suites and has a gorgeous view during golden hour. We stayed at the hotel here and was happy to hear they had on-site dining. So we made reservations and headed up to the 5th floor. They say there's a Dress Code but I came in the clothes I drove in, which were comfy joggers and a long-sleeved tee. Flora Loca has a vibrant atmosphere with lovely colors and upbeat lounge music. We also had wonderful service from the host at the greeting stand and our server. They even asked if we wanted blankets to keep us warm, which we accepted. Because we drove a a couple hours, we were starving. We ended up ordering a few things from their menu but were left disappointed for most of the items. Here's what we ordered: * Baby Corn Elote: I must have misunderstood what I read from hinger because I was expecting small cuts of actual corn on the cob. When it came out, I laughed a little thinking how I could have misunderstood "baby corn" elote for baby "corn elote". Well, I'm not a fan of baby corn to begin with so I immediately had flashbacks of canned baby corn flavor. I will say, though, a squeeze of lime juice enhanced its flavor. * Pollo Purepecha - This was my dish and I was hoping it would be as good as it sounded. It was just okay. The chicken was a little on the dry side and the flavor of the rice was just okay. It came with the same cream sauce that was paired with the baby corn elote. The cream sauce was good though. * Fajitas for Two - Our party had ordered this in the carne asada steak and Maitake mushroom. The steak was better than the mushroom. The mushroom had a burnt taste and not the typical Maitake I'm used to. I'm guessing it's what they marinated it in - it just wasn't working for any of our palates. Being so delicate, I would've preferred it prepared more simply with either olive oil or butter and sea salt. Impressively, it came with a bunch of sides such as rice, guacamole, beans, and red and green salsas. * Mole Short Rib - This was the best dish our party ordered. The mole was super tender and the mole sauce was perfectly done and not overly salted. However, it was paired with the same rice and beans used in the other dishes. It's a shame we didn't enjoy the food - especially as we all came hungry. However, we did enjoy watching the sunset and all the cars driving by the 101 freeway. Surprisingly, it wasn't too breezy up on the roof. Overall, we really enjoyed the ambiance here and the wonderful service but, because we came hungry for dinner, we didn't feel satisfied. Luckily, there are other food options in the area. This is a great place if you like a great view and perhaps grab some drinks. They also have a television at the bar. I did love their branding and design so good job to Flora Loca with that. I wouldn't mind coming back again for the ambiance.

The rooftop atmosphere here is what first drew me in, and it definitely delivered. With great views, a fun cantina vibe, and genuinely friendly, attentive service, it was an enjoyable place to spend the evening with friends. Unfortunately, there were a few issues with our visit. It was a warm day and there were no umbrellas at the tables that we were seated at. This left us baking in the sun and most people were using their menus as shade to cover their faces. Luckily we were able to sit in the area that had coverage, but just be aware it's a limited seating area. I recommend when making a reservation, to ask to be seated in the shady area. Especially if you're sensitive to the sun. It was also extremely windy on our visit. I know that's out of the restaurants control, but just be aware that wind is a factor too. Could be why they don't have umbrellas. Also, the pricing took away from what could have been a standout experience. I ordered just one appetizer and one cocktail, and my total came to around $50 before I even considered the automatically added gratuity for our party of four. While I understand rooftop venues often come with premium pricing, I personally didn't feel the portion size and overall value justified paying $60 after tax and tip. The $18 cocktail I had was served in a small plastic cup and barely tasted like it had alcohol in it. The asada fries were decent, but the fish tacos were my favorite here! Perfectly seasoned and the fish was delicious. The tres queso fundido is also a great appetizer to try. Highly recommend those! The service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a fun night out, but the pricing left me questioning whether I'd return. If value is important to you, it's something to keep in mind before visiting. Overall, it was still an enjoyable experience despite the cons and I'm glad we finally got to check it out.

Fun new place to visit in Oxnard. My friend and I decided to visit on a Tuesday at noon. The cantina is decorated very stylish. Our serve was very attentive and kind. For some reason, it is very windy where we were sitting and then we moved to the sofas and the wind was gone. The tacos were good, but the meat was on the dry side. I'm happy we tried this new gem in Oxnard.

Flora Loca Rooftop Cantina is Oxnard's newest rooftop hotspot and the girls and I finally checked it out for a much needed girls night. First things first...they absolutely nailed the space. It's a tropical little oasis with fun, vibrant decor, views, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for "just one more drink" (at least that's what we found ourselves saying all night). Speaking of cocktails...I was genuinely impressed by the drink menu. I ordered the Flora Loca Margarita and if you love guava, this one's for you. It was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and basically made for warm summer nights. 10/10. For my second cocktail I tried the Ube colada and it wasn't quite what I thought it would be (was picturing more a frozen colada drink) 7/10. As for the food...we didn't leave a single crumb behind. Our favorites: Tempura Elote Bites - Easily my favorite dish of the night. Lightly fried, packed with flavor, and paired with the most incredible sweet corn cream dipping sauce. 10/10. Sweet Potato Asada Fries - Our server Alex suggested swapping the regular fries for sweet potato, and that was 100% the move. Such a fun twist on a classic, and the asada was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. 9/10. We had a couple of different mains and I ordered the chicken adobo burrito. It was definitely good and packed with lots of toppings but for over $20 I would rather stick to a local taco shop burrito. 7/10. Yes, we managed to rack up quite the bill, Over $200 for three gals but after multiple rounds of cocktails, appetizers, entrees, hours of nonstop yapping, and rooftop views overlooking Oxnard, I'd say it was worth every penny. Lastly, I have to give a huge shoutout to our server, Alex. She was absolutely phenomenal. Every recommendation she made was spot on, and you could genuinely tell how passionate she is about both the menu and creating a great experience for her guests. She made an already amazing night feel extra special, and that's something you don't forget. If you're looking for a fun girls' night, date night, or bar spot, definitely add Flora Loca Rooftop Cantina to your list. Just be sure to make a reservation so you can snag one of the best rooftop tables available, those without reservations had to opt for the bar or were told table waiting time was 1 hour + but of course we came prepared and got one of the best seats in the house to people watch and with views!

I went with my amiga on a Friday night and the food/drinks were a 5/5. Highly rec the short rib mole and asada fajitas! The spare rib mole is different and tasty. My only critic were the tortillas. I didn't love the flavor but it's a matter of preference. Portions are great. My friend and I had leftovers. Drinks are refreshing and around $15- 18. They treated us to a birthday dessert (horchata ice cream) as we were celebrating a belated bday. It was gloomy, however love being able to enjoy a night out up top of our beautiful City of Oxnard! Chill vibes and amazing service. Shoutout to Marc & Brigette! Our original server at the bar wasn't attentive but other staff made up for it. We did not experience slow service at all. Make reservations as we almost didn't get a spot as everything was reserved for the night. Thankful there were two seats for us at the bar Oh & take a jacket, it gets chilly! If you're a true Oxnardian ... you know Oxnard nights are often cold. We are always prepped. If you don't take a jacket though ... they have clean blankets they let you borrow. There's heaters up above and to the sides too. This place is just so vibrant! So happy we have a rooftop cantina! Love it! Since visiting Mexico City and experiencing rooftop.. cantinas, churro shops, brunch spots .. etc I was sooo happy when I heard Flora Loca was opening. We better support it, so it stays in town/open. Also .. not because it is Mexican food it has to be cheap. It's on top a of hotel and typically, hotel restaurants are a bit more or pricer but I don't think Flora Loca is insanely expensive. We didn't have to pay for parking & we had no problem finding a spot. A note for those of us that find joy in everything ... yes there's a freeway but the sunset is gorgeous. The view of the city ahead and life happening around us is beautiful. You can focus on being a bug or Debbie Downer or enjoy the beauty and rhythm of the life we get to live :) Anywho ... Check it out!

I was super excited to try this place, and even more thrilled to discover it was officially open during my birthday weekend! Flora Loca is located on the rooftop/5th floor of the SpringHill Suites in Oxnard. Although we didn't have a reservation for early Friday evening, we were seated immediately. Crystal, our server, was phenomenal in expressing her approval of the food and drink we ordered, letting us know how much she enjoyed it. She also checked on us several times throughout the meal to see if we needed anything. We ordered the baby corn elote, fajitas for two (adobo chicken and carne asada), plus the flora loca and carried away cocktails. The fajitas came with rice and beans, plus a strawberry-infused salsa on the side. The adobo chicken was a bit dry, but the carne asada was seasoned perfectly and tender. The strawberry salsa gave the fajitas a nice little kick in taste. The rice also complimented the fajitas, but the black beans seemed to be lacking in flavor. The flora loca margarita and carried away cocktails were fruit-forward and refreshing. My favorite part of the meal was the baby elote, topped with mayo, house-made corn sauce, and other toppings. I loved this so much that I had to make sure my husband and I enjoyed an equal split of the baby corn so one person didn't have more than the other. Apparently, my protests of "but it's my birthday weekend" were met with protests about the fact that we were having other meals over the next few days in honor of my birthday. I tried, though, to sneak extra corn when my husband's head was turned to no avail. I would 100% reorder this as an appetizer. Finally, when the servers found out I was celebrating my birthday, they brought us horchata ice cream for dessert. Now, I've never had the pleasure of eating horchata ice cream, but wow, it made my mouth water. It was that good. Even now, my mind is flashing back to eating baby corn elote and horchata ice cream, and I wish I could travel back in time to relive those moments. Understandably, Flora Loca may be overlooking the freeway, the Chick-fil-A, and some other mundane locations, but I don't care. It's something new in Oxnard, and a rooftop view is better than a basic view on the ground. I'm very thrilled to welcome you to Oxnard, Flora Loca!

If you didn't already know, Flora Loca is officially open. When Oxnard gets something shiny and new, the word spreads quickly. The anticipation for the arrival of its first ever rooftop patio lounge has been the talk of the town for months. This place is magical and not just for the views. Unless you were ever lucky enough to get a view out of the now closed Tower Club, this may be the second best thing. We had a Friday evening reservation for 6pm so we could check out the sunset. We are very familiar knowing how the winds can pickup so close to the riverbed and deeply appreciate the accommodations for heaters and blankets for the patrons from the staff. We ordered cocktails and appetizers based on our servers recommendations. Signature cocktails: La Flora Loca Carried Away Desert Rosado Sour For food we ordered a variety to share: Baby Corn Elote Spicy Tuna Tostada along with Entrees:Pollo Purépecha Mole Short Rib I was impressed with the level of service we received in addition to the quality of food and drinks. Our server Alexandria was extraordinary. Highly recommend to check out this unique new addition to our area. But be warned, they are enforcing a dress code and reservations are highly recommended. Thank you Shaun and Dylan for taking the time to speak with me. I'm so excited to see what's to come! Looking forward to returning to check out the view of the Channel Islands on a clear day!

Celebrated my birthday at Ventura County's newest rooftop gem, Flora Loca, and I am officially obsessed! The views are gorgeous, and the vibrant, warm atmosphere (complete with fire and heating lamps) means you get the rooftop vibe without the chill. The Sunset All Day margarita and Old Fashioned were delicious, the Mini Elotes and Molé short ribs were to die for, and they surprised me with the most incredible, rich horchata ice cream for my birthday. Huge shoutout to our amazing server who made the night so grand. This place completely sets itself apart from anywhere else in the area. We found our new spot! Can't wait for the grand opening on June 25th!

(3/5) My wife and I recently visited Flora Loca Rooftop, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience didn't quite meet our expectations. We started with drinks. I ordered the Cloudfull cocktail, and my wife ordered one of their pink cocktails (I don't remember the name). Both drinks had beautiful, elegant presentations and tasted great. The bar definitely seems to be one of the restaurant's strengths. For appetizers, we ordered the chips and guacamole along with the elote. The appetizers were just okay. The guacamole lacked flavor and didn't taste very authentic, while the elote was decent but nothing particularly memorable. For our entrées, I ordered the mole and my wife ordered the aguachiles. The food was good, but not something that stood out. The portion size for the aguachiles seemed small--about enough to enjoy with a single tostada. Overall, the food was average and left us expecting more. In fact, we were still hungry after dinner and ended up stopping for sushi afterward, which was disappointing considering the price we paid. The service, however, was excellent. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout our visit. The atmosphere was another mixed experience. I understand the relaxed rooftop lounge concept, but eating dinner on couches with food served on a low coffee table wasn't comfortable. I found myself constantly leaning forward and crouching to eat, which took away from what could have been a more enjoyable dining experience. Since this is a newer restaurant, I came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by the limited menu selection, and I also didn't notice any happy hour menu or specials, which seems like a missed opportunity for a rooftop venue. The biggest surprise was the bill. For two people, with one drink each, two appetizers, and one entrée each, our total came to $158 after the automatic 20% gratuity. In my opinion, that's hard to justify considering the overall quality and portion sizes. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks and the rooftop ambiance, but probably not for dinner or a special date night. I hope the restaurant continues to improve because it has potential, but based on this visit, it didn't quite live up to the experience I was hoping for.

SERVICE Vibe is everything. Colors are joyful. View is cool. As it is positioned at the top of a hotel, SpringHill Suites, parking can be good or bad for you. It's Oxnard which means high winds so to attempt this business adventure - respect lol. Passing out little blankets for guest to borrow is a smart and creative bonus. Nice playlist. All the staff were nice. Restrooms were kept clean. For sure a photo op spot. FOOD I ordered Carne Asada street tacos. I enjoyed them. Had the soaked/pickled veggies on the side. I can't do heat but was hanging in there lol. Good flavor and would order again. We also had the Tajín flavored margarita which we disliked. This was not because it's bad but we're not Mexican and we respect and understand that is a popular seasoning typically used and it just didn't hit our pallet in an awesome way. Just not accustomed to it, but glad we dried it, right, why not. Ordered a regular margarita afterwards and it was Strong and Long (aka very good). Also ordered the Mole Short Rib. I don't like short rib but my guy who does thought it was good but disliked the sauce. Chips and guac were really good. All the food was plated beautifully. WELL I am for sure returning and why wouldn't I? Ok, honestly I'm going back in a week or so with another friend. This is Oxnards FIRST rooftop spot people. We're making history. LISTEN, the place is new, as in it just opened up days ago. Give them grace. The staff and crew need time to get the swing of things, how they want to work, how to get things to flow, how to handle a rush, how to handle strong winds taking over, how, how, how. So, chill out. Now, 6 months from now, fine. But for now let's take this in. I too am open for some small pops of live music here and there, but I don't think this place needs that and not often, the vibe is too sophisticated-chilled. I see great potential for them and hopefully they make it to the finish line.

Seen this off the freeway for few months now. Went there a few days ago. I was truly amazed that this exist in this area. The service staff that served us were so well trained, and the food was amazing. I especially love the tacos which we ordered the fish tacos, which were a seasonal fish. The concept fits very well. It's a Ventura vibe Mexican restaurant which California influences which you can see throughout the menu. We also had the shrimp ceviche and baby corn will say this is some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. , love how the menu is not super generic, Cocktails were also yummy. Great place to sip on some wine and get some amazing food on my next visit in this area!

I would give zero stars if it was possible... I really wanted to like this place, but I have to be honest--I left very disappointed. The food had virtually no flavor. It was so bland that it tasted like it was made without salt, pepper, or any seasoning at all. We waited an hour and a half just to get our carne asada fries, which is completely unacceptable. The service was even more disappointing. Our waitress brought our drinks and then it honestly felt like we were forgotten. We spent most of our time waiting instead of being checked on. The one positive is the ambience. The decor is nice, and the music creates a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, a beautiful space can't make up for poor food and poor customer service. If this bar wants to succeed in this area, they really need to step up their game. Great ambience may get people through the door once, but good food and attentive service are what bring customers back. Sadly, this experience missed the mark on both. Then there's a 20% gratuity attached so we have to tip for crappy service and very bland food Tina needs more training she supposedly an experienced server um I don't know if I agree with that. OK update Raul saved the day he fixed our bill. He corrected everything so I will move my one star review.

We visited Flora Loca's rooftop, and the atmosphere was definitely the highlight. The rooftop is beautiful, the decor and colors are fun, and the view is amazing. The service was good. Our server was friendly, attentive, and took great care of us throughout the meal. The drinks were excellent. I started with a mocktail that was delicious, then ordered the mango mezcal margarita, which was just as good. I would absolutely recommend the drinks. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. We ordered the guacamole and chips, the ahi tuna tostada, the short rib mole, chicken tacos, and the green aguachiles. Out of everything, the green aguachiles were the only dish we thought was decent. The rest lacked flavor and didn't meet our expectations. The portions are generous, and every dish was beautifully presented, but presentation can only go so far. For us, the flavor just wasn't there. Overall, it's a great place to grab drinks and enjoy the rooftop, but I wouldn't come back for the food.

Queso dip from the appetizer menu. DELICIOUS!!!!

I'd been…read morehere before, but only in the morning for matcha, so this was my first time experiencing their happy hour. The happy hour menu has a great selection of both food and drinks at really reasonable prices. We ordered the chicken tacos, the spinach and artichoke dip, and a drink, and everything was delicious. The tacos were flavorful, the dip was creamy and perfect for sharing, and the drink hit the spot. Service is pretty straightforward you place your order at the counter, and someone brings everything to your table. There's not a lot of interaction with the staff, but everything was smooth and efficient. One of my favorite parts was the atmosphere. The happy hour crowd was a nice mix of people, and the place had a fun, lively energy without feeling overwhelming. Since it was a warm day, my friend and I chose to sit inside. We had a spacious table with plenty of room for our food and drinks, which made it easy to relax and enjoy catching up. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back for happy hour. It's a great spot for good food, reasonably priced drinks, and a casual place to meet up with friends.

Ten Tigers is off the beaten path and I've met friends here for coffee but after 4:00 it transforms into Ten Tigers. Hubby read about their Smash Burgers so we split one and the flavors with chipotle aioli were the bomb! We've been going to Third Window in SB for our Smash Burger fix- no need to drive all that way anymore!! For $17 you get a Smash Burger that feeds 2 and perfectly crispy thin fries fried in beef tallow. They even serve chipotle aioli with fries- Best!! I ordered the special White Sangria which Is so good I had to order on repeat. Since it was Happy Hour, we also ordered the grilled chicken tacos for $8. We both thought those were tasty as well and their avocado salsa verde is the just like the one I make at home. Ambiance is well curated with welcoming outside patio feeling very open and airy with organic Boho accents and wood features. The servers were efficient but very friendly. Ten Tigers is legitimately a 5 Star - will Recommend highly! Since this review, we re-visited on a Friday evening and ordered the same drinks and meal. I can confirm the consistent quality of the food. This Friday night was hopping with several groups celebrating Birthdays. We lucked out and found one of the last open tables. The servers were very busy and took a while to clear off and clean our table - not a big deal because their priority is serving the tables and getting the food and drinks out to the tables. There is a longer line at the counter to order just before Happy Hour ends at 6:00. Tip- plan your evening to arrive earlier. Ten Tigers is now on our repeat list in Ventura.

We came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We each ordered a cocktail. She got a blueberry margarita and I got a cucumber gin mixed drink. Both were refreshing and delicious. We ended up ordering another round. For appetizers we ordered the crispy maple Brussels and tuna & salmon tartare. The Brussels were fried to perfection and glazed a sweet maple syrup. It also came with thick cuts of bacon. Definitely recommend this. For the tartare, it was also delicious and fresh. It was mixed with avocado and turnip. We thought the turnip would be off putting but it actually meshed well with the flavors. Came with fried wonton chips. For the main course we shared the NY strip and Lobster Malfaldine. The steak was cooked to perfection with a very nice sear and flavored well. Probably one of the better steaks I've ever had. Definitely beats out any steakhouse steak. The Lobster Malfaldine was also absolutely delicious. Most of the time, lobster pasta is usually a bit bland and lacking in lobster. NOT HERE. They included big chunks of lobster and the sauce was so good. Lastly, we ended our dinner with the Strawberry Hand Pie. This is basically a warm strawberry strudel with vanilla bean ice cream. They used locally sourced strawberries and I'm still thinking about it as I'm writing this review. Adrienne was our server and she was very nice and attentive. Since it was my girlfriend's birthday, they comped our dessert. Super nice staff!

My server Jonathan was enthusiastic and helpful. He suggested the strawberry iced latte which was a killer recommendation. Also went with the poke bowl which packs a big dent in the appetite, didn't expect to get so full. Finally the food had an amazing balance of flavors, all the right ratios of flavors to complement the meal, nothing overpowering each other. Coffee was delicious as aswell, there was no burnt espresso coffee taste, something I especially take note for a breakfast location. Extremely clean looking restaurant, definitely tucking this place in my back pocket to come back to!

If you're going to hang your hat on the speakeasy aesthetic--dim lights, hushed tones, whispers of…read moreexclusivity--then understand this: you're entering into an unspoken pact with your patrons. We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

Genuinely good people. One of the bartenders even ended up being my roommate for a time (and we would dance together in the living room). It was a hard time in my life when I first went there and I've grown and become, hopefully, a much better person just from experiencing the wonderful friends I've met. I could tell so many stories, but my point is simply this: This is THE BEST bar I have ever been to in my entire life and I cannot say enough good things about it and the people who run it, the regulars, bartenders, etc. Just genuinely awesome people. Even just the other day, a couple came in and they hadn't been there before, and we were just talking and they said "This is such a nice place." It's like Cheers. I walk in the door and end up hugging like everyone before I even get my name on the pool table (they also have a really nice pool table. I've been playing for years now as a result.) The owners Big J and Dave are awesome... I'm kind of overflowing with compliments here but it's just... it's the best place. If I had to choose what I was going to do with my night, my day, whatever, just getting out, it would be The Garage. Absolutely awesome. (I'm honestly just disappointed with myself that I didn't give them a Yelp review sooner. I cannot recommend this place enough. 5 stars just doesn't cut it).

When it arrived, it was served with avocado salsa and was so massive that Sal had to cut it in half. One bite in, and I knew--I had just found the best breakfast burrito I've had in years. It was perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and incredibly satisfying. Then came the biggest surprise--the check. This incredible meal was only **$10.50**! Everything on the menu is reasonably priced, making it an unbeatable value. Sal also mentioned they stay open late for dinner on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
