Wonderful bartenders and a nice crowd make this a perfect place to do karaoke or play pool. They have a decent selection of local beers like Topa Topa and Made West, and the bartender will make her secret vodka drink if you ask her. The couple that run the karaoke on Thursday Friday and Saturday are just wonderful and the sound system is top notch. All of the singers were good too! My friends and I had a great time. If you get hungry there's also a food truck in the parking lot. The first time you come here can be tricky. Make your first left after the freeway on Ventura. Stopped by to use a restroom and have a soft drink when I was in the area and could not sleep. People were really friendly. Lots of long time locals. If you expect service, this place is not for you. The bearded male and blonde female bartenders serve their friends first before they'll serve you (even if you've waited in a long line until you're at the head of the line). I only know this place as a guy who sometimes sings karaoke, and this is one of my favorite spots in the 805 area code. The KJ is polished, professional and runs a well organized show. There seems to be a smaller crowd on Thursday and Sunday evenings, so you get to sing more songs in an evening. I can't comment on the bar, since I don't drink. read more

Gigi's is a dive bar. If you are a karaoke fan the locals sing mostly happy vibing tunes. They refs are accepting of outsiders. There is pool and darts. This little gem of a dive bar is tucked away in a grimey little strip mall in a gritty little area of town. Surprisingly, once inside you'll find that GiGi's is the crown jewel of what would otherwise be a tough neighborhood that one would typically want to avoid. I sense the patrons of this bar want to be here. This is definately a destination watering hole. As with all good dive bars you'll find pool tables, live music on weekends, a small dance floor and juke box to round out the offering. All this aside, patrons come here for one primary reason; to drink in a chill atmosphere anytime from 8:00 am to 2:00 am. While driving up the 101 for a birthday weekend in Ventura, I notice a sign that reads COCKTAILS. I nudge my boyfriend, awakening him from his nap in the passenger's seat, and enthusiastically point at the discovery. --Should we go? --Yeah, let's go! I pull off at the next exit, make a couple turns, and find the destination: GiGi's Cocktail Lounge. Gigi's appears delightfully dangerous, nestled in an industrial part of Ventura with a parking lot full of dusty pickup trucks and a sign straight out of an eighties nail salon. Without hesitation, we enter and make our way toward the far end of the bar. The place is relatively busy for a Friday afternoon, with an eclectic crowd consisting of daytime-business drunks, geriatric drunks, and one sexually-confused soldier. The bartender is a slow-moving and slow-speaking guy reminiscent of my grandpa, who welcomes us regardless of our 'you're-not-from-around-here' appearance. We order up a couple of drinks and start discussing our plans for the remainder of the day. Mere moments after serving up our beverages, Grandpa sets two shot glasses face down in front of us, and says "Drinks on Gladys". He points to a tiny, Sofia Petrillo lookalike down at the other end of the bar and says, "She's the owner of this place." What an honor to have THE Gigi buy us a round. Before we are able to finish our drinks and redeem our free ones, the aforementioned soldier parks it next to us. Wasted, he sputters 'You guys look great", and proceeds to tell us how he can never go into a bar without people buying him drinks, bla, bla, bla. Eventually, we just give him one of the free drinks and leave before he tries to touch my boob or something. I highly recommend stopping by GiGi's for an afternoon coolie if you're heading up to Ventura. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to meet Ms. GiGi too! read more

I found this place on Yelp because I am making it my mission to find all the dive bars n Oxnard/Ventura since we just moved here from Pasadena. We headed over on a Saturday and found it in a little strip mall. Another Yelper coined it "Delightfully Dangerous" and I would agree. We walked in and there were a few people in there, about 6 in total and we sat at the far end of the bar. It was very cozy and cute inside and had a touch tunes juke box which was pretty darn loud for the space. We were SO happy to see that they had Firestone on tap as the others were your typical, Bud or wheat beer and the bartendress served us and it tasted awful. When I pointed it out to the bartendress, she asked me if I wanted something else so I switched it out for Bud (which I hate). I have to admit, we were getting a bit of the stink eye from the regulars but nothing too obnoxious and when I started researching places to eat fish in the Area on my phone, they all jumped in with opinions and comments and I felt much more relaxed and welcomed at that point. Because of the lack of draft beer selection, unfortunately it won't be my "go to" place but it was a nice change of pace and nice people. They have Karaoke on Thursday and Fridays and entertainment Saturday nights so would like to check that out sometime. read more

Having a good time until I purchased some Touchtunes credits so I could listen to music. I played 5 songs and suddenly the jukebox quite playing. Turns out the bartender was asked to pause the music because of a football game that was on TV. Football can be watched without sound. Go to any sports bar and you will see. Great service from a group of excellent bartenders - Jo, Shannah, Megan, Julie, Errick and Chaz. You can always get an ice cold draft beer or bottle, great cocktails and if the Dodgers are playing you can bet they will be on a few of the TVs as well. I'm not the biggest fan of the "open mic" night (way too loud) but it's still a great time. You would have to "try" to have a bad time at Gigi's! One of our favorite hangouts in Ventura! There is a great, "no-trouble" crowd that patronizes this hidden gem and we have met some of the most wonderful people here. Was with a group of folks doing the annual Ventura triathlon over in the harbor last weekend. Myself and a couple other lads were just along for support, so after everyone went to bed at 9pm we google mapped our way over to GiGis since there's really nothing else around the good ol' La Quinta Inn. It's sort of in a weird location within a neighborhood. There was a sweet little blues band with a ripping guitar player tucked into a 5x5 stage and 1 of 2 pool tables worked. Really sweet bartender with a heavy pour who looked like she'd worked there for 30 years. Got hustled for beers by some dude named Dusty who by the end of the night was a pro chess player, ex-special forces solder, semi-pro pool player, ex-con and fluent in Japanese. read more
