I graduated from Lakeland Sr High School, class of 1972. We had our graduation ceremony here. It was quite an event and a memory that I draw on when ever I'm back to visit this beautiful city. I have several friends who graduated from this prestigious college. Because of that I had many opportunities to visit the campus. I always appreciated the unique Frank Lloyd Wright architecture as well. On my most recent visit 2/17/25, I took the FLW 1.5 hour tour which was fantastic and I highly recommend it. read more

We were here for a concert in the campus auditorium. We make this visit to Frank Lloyd Wright architectural buildings. He has the most concentrated area with 18 buildings in one area. It is definitely a treat for many historian, architect and engineer. The most famous building is the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. You will be able to spot immediately from parking of the Branscomb Auditorium. Each build is lock during our visit because of Sunday. However, we do look at the outside of building. Any buildings that link by the walkway is Frank building. We enjoy our time here for the concert and architecture buildings. Frank design is low clearance. The walkway can be touch by the tip of the hand. Each walkway raise in profile is about three feet or six steps. read more

A rock solid mid-sized private college providing excellent education within its major offerings.

Toured campus with my HS senior and the campus is really pretty, as a potential student the café didn't look that appealing. Seems to be a great education, a little expensive but the students there look really happy and they have great stats. read more

Must visit while near Lakeland, try to take one of the guided tours. For lovers of FLW this is heaven. The students are lucky to have such magnificent architecture and environment! Visitor center is outstanding too with great staff. Arrange tours here. Surrounding neighborhoods are pure old Florida houses. read more

Don't let the pretty fool you. They want your $ not your student. Ours was there for years as a top scholar and when she got sick during Covid they were awful to her. The Provost went as far as saying, "Even if she had cancer we would not make any accommodation." (He was asked to repeat the statement so his callous response could be noted.) read more

Terrific. Interesting. Scenic. Fun. Architecural. Garden. Overlooks a lake. Chapel and church with wondeful lighting, angles, and pipe organage. The surrounding 'hood is beautiful with lovely homes. The drive around the lake is also nice. This beautiful college campus is a sensational place for a walk and an explorarion while pondering college planning, landscape design, art, life, architecture, and the meaning of life. School wasn't in session when I was there or I would have enjoyed checking out the coeds as well. Education is so important!!! They do organized tours. I think they are $20 or so. Very informative no doubt. We wandered.. There are Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings as well as newer structures. Mix in a visit to Florida Polytechnic up I-4 to really get your juices flowing. read more

I don't know anything about the college program here, I just know it's GORGEOUS. We were driving back to Tampa from Orlando, and this campus was on the way. We like architecture and have seen a few Frank Lloyd Wright buildings before. We couldnt pass up the opportunity to see the large collection of his work, and it did not disappoint! I immediately dreamed about sending my kids to college there, and the experiences they would have on that inspired campus! And also, of course I'd visit a lot. It is in need of repair, and that scares me. I know there are repairs and improvements being made, but they will never be done. So hopefully the funding will always be there. But I couldn't help but wonder if these buildings and designs were not made to have so much use, and if it's sustainable. We spent about an hour walking around, taking pictures and enjoying the beauty! read more

Visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings at this campus had been on my list for years. In early March, on an impossibly pretty Thursday afternoon, I finally did it. I believe it's the largest collection of FLW buildings in one spot. You can walk freely all over campus, with a brochure for just a five dollar charge, or take one of the formal tours. (My trip wasn't planned ahead of time, so I didn't do the tour, but I'd love to go back and do so) It's really an amazing find, tucked in a residential area. I found parking easily and set off, to take way too many pictures and go exploring. The buildings were so exquisite, the setting so peaceful and the covered walkways, so fascinating. I was so into it, wonder if my mouth was hanging open. It's such a gem, this campus-so unique and special to our area. If you're into architecture, it's worth the trip-especially on a cool, sunny spring day when everything's blooming. I'll go back to visit, and to buy the coffee table book in the gift shop. read more

I graduated with a Bachelors from FSC. The campus is BEAUTIFUL and the location is perfect. Lake Hollingsworth is just a walk away. A lot of the buildings were built by Frank Lloyd Wright, which increases the awesome factor. I remember being in class seeing people walking around with maps looking like they were at an art exhibit lol If you like art, history and green things you should definitely stop at the campus if you're nearby. See if you can get into the greenhouse when you're there. It's beautiful! read more

School scene is great but everything else is terrible. Warning to transferring credits. The admissions office will hold you hostage to stay all 4 years by only allowing you to take 12 credits, when you can take 15-18 per semester. Dorms have mold and will make you ill. Professors are only on campus 1/2 the time and You will mainly take classes online from your mold and fungus filled dorm. Want food poisoning on the regular, sign on up! read more

From a tourist perspective this is an interesting college, being the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture in one place in the world. They have done a nice job of integrating new architecture to blend with the old. They have brochures for self-walk tours. It is a photographer's paradise with the chapel, the fountain, great color & angles and Florida greenery. (At a personal level, when inside some of the older buildings, the wheezing caused by mold was disastrous.) It does not seem they are doing as great a job of advertising to bring non-college people onto campus as they once did for gallery openings, concerts, theatre, public school interactions, etc. You used to see their water sports people practicing on Hollingsworth but it does not seem so any more. They have a great new pool/aqua center but I do not know that it is open to the public. It seems a public coffee house or adequate parking might draw more into the FSC fold. The public would benefit from more information about its offerings, its student accomplishments and it's history. It is a "must" as a one-time tourist stop to explore. It would be nice to become a destination and more integral part of Lakeland life. read more

This school has the most elite education for children with dyslexia! My boy now 17 was diagnosed with this learning disability after his third grade teacher at Valley View Elementary suggested this deficiency because he failed the state FCAT test causing him to be retained in public schools, defeating his self confidence. It wasn't until we researched with the third grade teachers help and found The Roberts Academy! Part of this college. My son attended there until he reached 6th grade and was able to return to public school and keep up with the A/B students! The education received will forever follow him into his success in adulthood! He is now an 11th grader still getting A's and B's. These students also learn etiquette and manners! Though expensive, this institution has provided me with great memories. The Frank Lloyd Wright buildings are perfect scenario for writers and photographers. The water features, the shadowlines, and the staff are amazing and unforgettable. Plus the college is lakeside providing room for jetskiing, a walk path around the lake for power walkers and and runners, only if you can handle the humidity. If you're college bound, you can't go wrong at Florida Southern. I'm a bit biased as my brother, wife and daughter have attended this school. My wife and daughter are getting their MSN and MBA respectively as I write this. If they had a creative writing program, I'd be going there too. If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture you will be bowled over at this campus which holds and maintains the largest collection of his work ON THE PLANET! Recently they added another structure of his design, the Usonian House which serves as the campus greeting center. The Hydro Dome was resurrected and now dazzles visitors and students everyday. Tour history includes the pre- and post-FLW tenure as architect of the school, as well a restoration efforts. The in-depth tour takes you inside several of the FLW structures. The reviews are trash. This place is not where you want to send your child. The buildings are damp and old, and the Wright architecture, though being historic, is not impressive in the least. The education is sub par, and much of the information given on the tour is far fetched. Avoid the small gain and spend your hard earned money on a university that will give you a real worldly education. read more

The other reviews speak of the FLW architecture. It's okay if you like that sort of style but FSC does a very poor job of keeping the 60 year old buildings maintained. The BIG question should be: What about the education? What about the faculty/staff? I worked there--I will tell you! First, the price tag for this school is way, way high for what you get. I have been in academia for 20 year and never heard of it before moving to Florida. There are no real notable alumni from FSC--take a look. Just a few local or regional notables. Outside of the area or nationwide there is no one I have ever heard of. I make this point because every "elite" college has at least someone nationally notable--FSC had none. Second, the faculty are for the most part okay--I did meet a handful of good people. However, there were several people that behaved as if they worked at Harvard. Elitist attitude for no real reason. A community college would be a better idea. Oh, but what about the students outside Florida that want to go to college in Florida. Every student wants that--move to Florida, it's not a vacation. Lastly, I was earning 32k--other faculty jobs at other colleges pay closer to 50k. An insult. Top administration makes 200k. Staff starts at $12 an hour. All faculty and staff are treated very poorly. Overall, I would not recommend sending your student to FSC--it's way too expensive for what it is and there are better choices. Southeastern University (only 1 mile way) is a much better school. Or, go to a state college or stay in your home state and find a job in Florida later. read more
