I've attempted going to two of their estate sales. The first, they had issues with their line vs their list (it happens) but were unable to communicate with their clients what was to happening, i.e. who was to enter the sale first. When questioned by several people in line (not me) they chose to yell at the crowd (50+ people) and say, "if you question us we will kick you out". My friend and I opted to go get a cup of coffee and come back later... the line hadn't moved by a single person and the line had increased by another 50+ or so. Willing to write that off as a bad F&J day. I opted to try another sale just this week. I went in the afternoon... now most estate sales at this point should have no line or a very very short one. Unfortunately, parking was down the block and the line was very long... I didn't even attempt it. They seem to get $$$money clients, good product from their photos... however, I've never seen it, nor has anyone I've talked to. I personally will not spend the time to give them another chance but hope they are more than what I've experienced. read more

This estate sale company very often leaves items unpriced, so you can tell they're making prices up on the fly - which could lend itself to them profiling you and pricing accordingly. It also seems like they don't communicate too well between each of their employees - one employee tells you they've "already examined" all the jewelry & the unpriced ring you've found (in a sealed glass display) is "just a few dollars." But when you get up to the cash register the other employee eyes the severely bent up ring with a loop to find some sort of marking & prices the ring $75. The ring was some trashed 8k gold ring and they marked it $75. Wow. No wonder they might not sell your items. They also don't monitor the door very well (missing people who sneak out without buying) so people get tired of waiting for their "turn" to enter, leaving before even seeing the sale. Today they didn't bother to tell a lady with a very well dog (I thought it was a service dog) that she couldn't bring her dog in until she got to the front of the line. She had wait at least 15 minutes & they could have clearly seen the dog before she got to the front of the line. In the "terms" of their sales (as shown on estate sales . net) they state that they will take cc & debit cards with a $50 minimum and 3% fee applies - however - when you get to the sale you find out that they will let you use your cc or debit card with less than a $50 if you beg and plead (I've seen it happen more than once). They seem inconsiderate to say the least. My review based on attending at least 3 of their sales this year. read more

The Seattle sale my husband and I attended was clean, well organized, well organized, and well marketed. The line to get in was long at first, but went quickly as customers purchased items and left the sale. The owner was friendly and helpful, and our fellow customers were smiling and chatty. We hope to return to a Flotsam & Jetsam sale on our next trip up to the Pacific Northwest. No website posted here on Yelp? Odd. We saw an estate sale listing on an estate sale website and decided to go. The listing was very thorough and had many great pictures posted. Since my husband and I have gone to a lot of estate sales in the past, we were well prepared on how this one would work. The event started on a Friday afternoon. I was highly skeptical about how many people would show up because people are usually working. However, my husband was determined to not spend hours in line so he woke up at 5:30 a.m. to drive to the location and put our names on "the list." They put a notebook out by the house and you basically write your names inside. You might want to take a picture of the first page because in the past, people have ripped out pages or crossed out names just to be ahead on the list. Anyways, there were already people at the house putting their names down at 5:45 a.m! We we arrived at noon, there were already about 75 people waiting around! Then, people naturally started to form a line by the door. I usually hate estate sales because people get really push and antsy while waiting outside. However, this was was relatively pleasant because they started on time and we were at the tool of the list. We had to wait about 5 minutes outside and then we were in. After we went in, it was like a mass scramble to seize all the tags in order to claim their goods. I don't even think people knew what they were taking. They probably were just taking the tags first and then thinking about whether or not they wanted it. Things were relatively higher priced here then at other place. If you're looking for a steal, I doubt you'll be able to find one at these estate sales. The people working at this estate sale is pretty knowledgeable and probably researches the items well in advance so they are pricing it pretty much at market rate (-a couple of bucks so you get some kind of a deal). The people working at the estate sale that I went to were pretty nice. I enjoyed it and would probably come back. read more

This company dosen't act like they want to sell thiet better items. I have only been to one of thier sales and was told up front thier best item was not going to be available in the discount part of thier sale. The item was damaged and was still priced $25.00 over retail. The item can be purchased off ebay for less than the company was asking. Since this company offers a buy out service it leads one to wonder what thier motivation is. There were many other items priced in the same manner. I realize that there is a responsibility to the client but to outright try not to sell an item makes you wonder about rhir motivation. read more

The only estate sales I've been to are 2 by Flotsam and Jetsam, and I found them very reasonable! The first I came on the last day and everything had been marked down so I got some excellent deals! I also regretted not buying some glassware, so I posted on their Facebook group asking where the leftovers went. To my surprise, they told me they were going by the house again later that week and I could come by and buy them! I was very impressed. At the second sale I went to the staff was a bit more strict/rigid/hurried(?). The line was so long and slow Saturday afternoon that I ended up going home and coming back on Sunday. The selection was more picked over, but at least I didn't have to wait in line for hours. Overall I appreciated the prices, the organization of goods in the house, and the thoroughness of the online listings. :) read more

If you are looking for someone to run an estate sale for you , there is no one better than Merritt Green. She knows her 'stuff' - what things are worth, and calls in experts for specialty fields. She puts her client (the estate) first and has an impeccable work ethic. I have to laugh at the negative comments here from shoppers (notice, never the estate client) complaining about long lines and high prices - that's evidence that F&J manages the often rowdy pickers/public, and gets you top dollar for Granny's stuff - disappointing, of course, if you're picker looking for a 'steal'. As a shopper, if you are patient enough to get in the door (F&J doesn't manage sign-up sheets and gives no preferential treatment to dealers) you'll find the house isn't overcrowded, the stuff well-organized, the staff helpful and fun, no hidden flaws in the merchandise. read more

Yesterday was my first, (and last), F&J estate sale. I showed up just before the noon opening time. Noon came and went. The line did not move, and there was no explanation from the staff as to how they were allowing people to enter. For those unfamiliar with estate sales, companies usually post their entry policies online, (a list, standing in line, etc). About 30 minutes in, we found out there had been a sign up sheet, and they were allowing these people to enter first, (this was not advertised). They initially let 12 people in. If one came out, one went in. At one point, almost everyone in the house was in line paying, and no one was browsing. Apparently, the cashier was handwriting receipts for those who resell items. People got tired of waiting and left. It wasn't a good sign when people were leaving empty handed. When I finally got in after waiting for an hour, I saw why. Most everything was overpriced. When I paid for the few items I did find, the woman was obviously WAY stressed out. She took a phone call in the middle of my transaction and didn't say another word to me, (not even thank you). People who run estate sales need to understand they have two types of customers. The ones they're selling the items for, and the people they're selling the items to. read more

You don't sell the contents of entire houses if your pricing isn't right. Finally, look at the reviews he has left for others. Out of seven reviews six are one star. Enough said. read more

I love this team of quirky people! Merritt Green is the salt of the earth kind of gal that you can completely trust. We used them for my mom's estate sale and my clients have used them to get some cash and move to their next home with fewer possessions. She knows her stuff and brings in outside experts to appraise items when she has questions. I had one client with an entire bookstore in her basement. Merritt cleared it out by bringing in book buyers who appreciated what was there. If it isn't going to bring top dollar at an estate sale she finds someplace it will sell. As professional pickers for the last 5 years, we need to find good prices in order to buy. We went to our first F&J sale this week and found a number of items that were in our price range. If you're looking for garage sale level deals - estate sales are not for you. However many of the prices at the F&J sale were notably below what you'd pay on Etsy or eBay for the same item. Estate companies have just 2-3 days to clear out a house and the folks at F&J had most things priced to move. Definitely worth a visit if you're near one of their sales. read more

I like these people, and have gone to many of their sales, but regardless, as a professional reseller and collector, they are always my last choice. Not that they don't get great estates - they sometimes do. But, the line to get in is almost always unbearably long ( I understand the importance of crowd management and have heard the fire safety schpeel, but please - - ), checkout is usually slow, prices are almost always too high at least until the last day. I don't expect to find anything for sale there that isn't heaviy researched, they just don't leave enough on the table. When there are so many other big sales going on each weekend, where's the incentive to come to theirs? read more

I used to love an estate sale but now I just drive on by-UNLESS it is a Flotsam and Jetsam sale. The staff at these sales are FUN and the prices are right and I am both thrifty and picky. Really nice people, really bad business people. If you don't mind waiting for longer than the advertised opening time and you don't care about how much money you spend because you don't check market prices, this might not be a disappointment to you but we didn't have a good experience at all. The estate sale was supposed to open at 11, we were about 10th in line and there was a long line going down the street. It was also 90 degrees out today. We waited an additional 15 min for the doors to open. This is after having waited 20 min, just to be there on time for when the doors opened. There was no explanation or apology as to why they let people wait, which is rude and inconsiderate. You're basically wasting all those people's time by not being organized. That's not a recipe for a happy buyer once they come through the door. That's bad business. Once you're in, pretty much everything is overpriced and this was half price day too.. We will, unfortunately, be avoiding all F&J Estate sales in the future because I'd rather not have my time wasted by people who don't think running an organized, fair business is a priority. read more
