They are just "OK" to me........their pastries are overpriced, but quite tasty. The coffee, however.......its mediocre. The Flour Garden lost probably 1/2 of their Auburn clientele when the Starbucks opened its doors in the same shopping center (Elm Plaza). My daughter and I decided to go here today. We both were wanting quiche... Unfortunately, they only had asparagus quiche .. So Aspen, got a chicken pot pie which was a single serving pie for $7 and she also got a water $0... I ordered a Vanilla/Carmel Latte 20oz was $4.50 I also ordered a bagel with lox and all their veggies cucumber, purple onions, sprouts, tomatoes and I chose hummus instead of cream cheese. The total was $27.88 without a tip! Which means they charged me over $15 for a veggie bagel sandwich with lox!!! Needless to say we will not be returning to this establishment.. If you have all the money in the world and don't mind poor service... then this is the place. The baked goods are exceptional. But I'm very disappointed that day old stuff is only 25% off. I have never seen say old stuff less than 50%. The only reason I bought day old was there were no fresh cinnamon rolls to be had. In short I don't think I will be back. The bagels and cream cheese here are DELICIOUS. They don't have a massive variety the way a chain (i.e. the always good Noahs) would, but they're still amazing. I always get a toasted Parmesan bagel with a garlicky cream cheese. They also make fresh juice and smoothies. Last time I got a carrot, apple, ginger, parsley juice. It was so healthy and refreshing. This place was my favorite for years whenever I was in the area for hiking. I've tried their lattes, chais, smoothies, sandwiches, bagels, etc and was never disappointed. But their prices are high for what it is, and service time can take and feel like forever. I'm disappointed. I just had a bagel with lox, cream cheese, onions and tomato, accompanied by a small cup of coffee. The total was $11.35 Really? I had not thought to ask if there were extra charges for the onion, tomato, and cream cheese. Seems to me these should be included in the price. I can't get a day old toasted here it's crazy. They won't toast day olds unless they are sold out of the fresh. Their toaster is running from open to close(it's not a case of conserving energy.). If I can't buy a day old, I'm not eating today. I've wasted gas twice to be turned away at the register and denied a toast. So sad. I just needed a snack, so I thought I would try this place out. Expensive! $9 for a small white chocolate mocha and a small ham and cheese croissant. OK, let's talk about the customer service... The young man who made my mocha was very nice, but the mocha tasted horrible. The blondie that was my cashier needs to get a personality. Next time, hand me my debit card and hand me my food instead of shoving it at me. How rude. Also, don't over cook the food. Thanks for leaving my croissant in the microwave. I didn't know croissants take 5 minutes to cook! At least you had the courtesy to ask me if I like my food "super hot". An Auburn staple and a good one. They have great Chai tea. I can't resist it every time I am there. They serve both Oregon Chai and their own homemade version. Tons of pastries and cakes to try as well as order for any special event. Their lunch is a great option as well and I always enjoy their soups. Do you like being force-fed pseudo-European style pastries with basic coffee at high prices? If you said YES then this is your one-stop shop in Auburn! I'll grant them this: there is actually a wide selection of new stuff to try out, soup, pastries, cookies, etc but the prices are alarmingly high. The coffee I had here was always not worth the price (except when I had a friend who worked here that hooked it up with a qunit-shot espresso, WHEW!). So the downfalls... why in the holy hell do I want to spend $6 on a pastry? Sure it's made in Grass Valley (big whoop...) at their own bakery but the prices are just too high to merit more than trying this coffee shop once. I've been several times primarily for the free wi-fi more than anything else. If they cut overhead, lowered prices, and perhaps offered less options (and better coffee) it would be a decent place to sit and sip some of that glorious caffeine. read more

The pastries and food here has always been good, it had been a while since I last visited and I left extremely disappointed with their business practices. I ordered a macaroon and a blueberry croissant.. marked in the case as $1.95 and $3.75. My receipt showed the blueberry croissant was $4.65 and the macaroon as $2.25.. I questioned the cashier and her response was - I know we raised our prices, the correct price is in the register. She told me the prices in the case, next to the pastries were wrong. She also told me her manager was busy at the moment and unable to assist. There was just something about this transaction .... This place is very frustrating for me. First, they NEVER have blueberry bagels. I finally asked one day when to come to get blueberry and they pulled out a binder with a schedule in it and said Monday morning is the only day to get them. What the heck?! Then, this morning the only coffee I was interested in, the organic dark roast, was out and when we asked them to refill it they responded that the line was too long and they may get to it. I really, really want to give this a higher rating as the girls in there are so very nice BUT they are ridiculously over stretched. You have to wait ages, the place is never that clean, we always have to wipe our table with wipes we have bought with us and/or clear crockery to be able to sit down and the toilets leave a lot to be desired. More disappointing though is that they ALWAYS run out so very quickly of all the popular bagels and you cant rely on them to be able to buy bread. The juice here is great but very expensive and as they only have one old machine takes an eternity to get. Dropped in for a lunch time bite and while they do have a good selection of creative offerings, theres little or none vegetarian or vegan options. Tried to get a bagel but only non dairy spread on offer was hummus and they were out of that leaving only several cream cheese based spreads. Then looked at salads and out of about 10 different ones on offer, there was just one that did not contain animal product(s). This bakery was great 10 years ago, great atmosphere and good pastries. Since then the place has turned just plain smug, the staff is rude and the pastries taste dried out and old. While I was there I asked where the location of the coffee was and one of the staff members just stared at me and rudely looked over my shoulder to take the order of a person that just walked in. I've never written on yelp before, but my experience 10 minutes ago was the worst service I've ever experienced anywhere. The employees were friendly but the product was beyond subpar. I ordered a blueberry scone, it had 3 blueberries in the whole thing, and an almond milk flour garden chai, which was only heated to 110 degrees at the max and was not made with almond milk. When I pay $9.72 for a drink and pastry, I expect to get the quality that i paid for, and that was not the case this morning. But, the customer service was not unfriendly, so thank god for that! read more

Until we moved to Roseville four and a half years ago, we lived on the hill in Auburn right above Elm Center and we walked to Flour Garden for breakfast most weekends, and I stopped in there often on the way to work too, or on the way home to pick up soup. I think there were even quite a few days that I am embarrassed to say I ate here for breakfast lunch and dinner all in one day. Since we moved to Roseville, I've been back here from time to time and it's still pretty good. I think the service has gone a little downhill. The food is about the same, coffee still amazing as ever and bagels tasty. They also have really good hummus that they are always out of because it is so good. I often get a poppy bagel with hummus and veggies, and I always take some day olds home with me. There are a couple of their vegan soups that I like, but not of them are as good as the tomato parmesan soup that we used to have, which we had so often that we nicknamed it "TP". Bottom line, go here if you're in Auburn for great, fast food and friendly, if not always super quick, service. read more

The only place in town that could fill my preggo craving for an organic bagel without driving to Roseville. I love that a lot of their products are organic! Husband said the coffee was pretty good too. The deserts look yummy. Next time I need to pick up a cake or desert for a party, I'll have to stop by there. They are a bit pricey, but it was worth it to me. Only problem is that the service is hit and miss because 2 out of the last 4 visits they didn't get my order right. I used to work in this center many years ago & enjoyed the food & baked goods here. Was back in area last wk & stopped in. Not how I remembered it. Employees weren't friendly for starters. Not anything very appetizing in the case. Very few baked goods. Small iced coffee was $2.50!! Bad energy in the place, it used to be hoppin with smiling, friendly & engaged employees.
