Flour Garden Bakery in Auburn has a bright, welcoming bakery-cafe atmosphere. When you walk in, you are greeted by large display case packed with handcrafted artisan breads, bagels, fresh-baked pastries, and custom-made cakes, alongside plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices. You will also see chalkboards and cases featuring their daily selection of fresh salads, homemade soups, sandwiches, and organic juices. As I was looking for a parking spot, I noticed one of my regulars is also a regular here. We were so happy to see each other. There we were pulling out our phones to show each other pictures of our kids. Since he was on his way out, we said our goodbyes do that I could get down to business... and pleasure my taste buds. First, I like the checkered floor. I feel like it adds to the playfulness of the atmosphere. The art on the walls was extraordinary. I couldn't help but study it. While Robb and Mimi were helping other patrons at the counter, it gave me plenty of time to look at their gorgeous creations. The custom made cakes and cupcakes made my eye twinkle. It brought back memories of when I used to be a cake decorator. It takes time and patience to create these masterpiece. The cakes cakes made with superior ingredients looked classic... Immediately, the giant German Chocolate cupcake caught my eye. One of those was definitely going home with me. Since it was early, I needed something more breakfast like to start with. If you're visiting in the morning or looking for a refreshing drink, they also feature an extensive fresh juice bar where they will blend combos on the spot. Robb was the person to help me. With a big smile, asked what I would like. I asked what was popular here because it was my first time. They said the almond breakfast cake was pretty popular. So Robb packed me up and I was on my way with both the Almond Bahar cake and giant German Chocolate cake! Robb even offered to warm up my almond cake for me! Thank you, Robb!!!! When I got home, both the German Chocolate cake and Almond Breakfast cake had some weight to them. With my first bite of the Almost Breakfast cake.. it was a warm beautiful bite... and exactly how I like my cakes... not too sweet, a little fruity, with a nutty taste. From the inside out, this breakfast cake was made insanely good. I loved the crumb topping. You know I had to take a bite of that German Chocolate cupcake... although it was breakfast time! Let's just say I definitely spoiled myself with this one. The cake was moist and with a deep cocoa flavor! The coconut-pecan frosting was creamy, a gooey goodness. It was a phenomenal contrast with the soft moist cake. I think I can taste that the pecans were toasted to add even more of a nutty flavor! Perfection! Someone here knows exactly what they're doing and I can't eat another German Chocolate cake from anywhere but here! In fact, hold on while I take another bite... I have not even touched the tip of the iceberg with this review on the cozy lunches that they offer. How exciting does it sound to be able to have lunch, and then get up and go pick a dessert after? Or enjoy a cinnamon twist with a fresh cup of brewed coffee? Pure bliss! Taste of heaven! Flour Garden Bakery makes me want to stop in everyday and try one of everything. Had been a while since I had been here, and man it has tanked since our last visit. Not worth one star. When was the last time they mopped the floor? We ordered a few cupcakes should have just walked out the door. They probably were no less than 3 or 4 days old the cake and icing just tasted of refrigerator, dry and dense totally gross. Got this Chocolate fudge cake for birthday, it was creaming, just the right amount of sweetness, and moist. The whole cake was almost gone immediately and I even had second piece. This was my first time back since the pandemic. I meandered in there on a recent lazy Saturday late morning. The place looks the same and thankfully still serves up come consistently baked delicious cookies, pastries, and bagels and of course awesome customer service. They do not fail me. That is what keeps me coming back. I got the cheddar cheese bagel toasted with half plain cream cheese and the other half sun dried tomato cream cheese spread. I was not picky about the top or the bottom of the bagel having which particular spread. I let them choose. The bagels are not New York style. They are baked and more bread like. Still all so yummy with a slight chew, toasted or not. My toasted bagel had a crackly melted cheese top. Mmm. Even though I prefer more of a NY style bagel, I totally enjoyed their bagels. Ohh that sun dried tomato spread was d-licious! The almond cookie, with a dollop of chocolate piped on top of it, is one of my favorite item from them. It never disappoints. It's sad to see how this bakery has declined over the years. I had a coffee and a berry almond breakfast cake today. The cake smelled and tasted like musty fridge or freezer. It was so old the berries on top were rock hard and the cake itself was stale and dry. The coffee was supposed to be French Roast but it had a strange flavor and I couldn't drink it. read more

I'm going to give my honest and unbiased opinion of this place. Rounding up but I'd probably give them a 3.7. First of all, they open at 6. They are the only place in the area that serves juice that opens before 9. This is very convenient for those of us that start work at 7 or 8 AM. They not only serve juice but they have all kinds of breakfast and lunch items ready to go including soup, both frozen and fresh, and sandwiches. A lot of the soups are fairly health conscious too including butternut squash, pumpkin, spinach, cannelloni beans etc. They are very delicious. So is the juice. They also have a day old discount section and I haven't seen many places in the area doing this. The day old muffins are pretty delicious and you can get them as much as half off. The bagels are a little too stale to be salvageable. Some stuff on the menu is not so good, like the salmon lox bagel. The prices are also really, really high. I can easily go in here and purchase 2-3 items and spend $40. I don't think their offerings are quite high enough in quality to demand this price, but times are tough, I get that. I personally didn't have a problem with the customer service. I think everyone there is very nice. Ultimately it's a convenient way to get some relatively healthy items to eat, even early in the morning. So I'll continue going back. But some items are not so great and the prices are quite high. read more

I've grown up in this area and seen the downfall of this bakery. I was willing to give it another chance, ordered lox bagel x2. They charged for the salmon, the cream cheese and they charged $2.75 for a side of tomatoes, $2.75 for a side of sprouts and $2.75 for a side of onions, I figured at that price my son and I could share the toppings on our two bagels. The order came to almost $70. I was disgusted. One bite of salmon- and here's a photo of the $10 worth of toppings. I won't be back. Recently, I visited this place with my best friend and we ordered two drinks, both terrible. I ordered a small, hot tea misto and the tea bag was almost as large as the cup making the drink super bitter. My best friend ordered a sugar free mocha and it was unbearable which is saying something because she can enjoy many "diet" foods. However, the pastries looked amazing! We said "next time" and left with our bad drinks. Today, I visited again with my family, ordered two drinks, and one was terrible and one was alright. Besides the drinks being poorly made, the price of them is what really kills me. I ordered my stepson the smallest size of the Freeze and it was nearly $8! It came out very liquidated and not frozen, no whip cream, nothing special. It almost seemed like a chilled Carnation instant breakfast... very disappointing. I ordered a small, iced chai tea latte with dairy substitute and it was fine. Today, we also bought two Rum Balls and I saved mine for an afternoon pick me up. I took pictures to show my best friend, yes - the same one who went with me the first time, and when I finally ate mine, it was incredibly boring. I feel like I can't win here. :/ I will say that my husband buys Challah here every week and those come out great! Every pastry *looks* great, but to date, I've only had one Rum Ball and I won't buy it again. My hope is that this business invests in proper beverage making training for the nice staff. I went into the bakery this morning to pick up a few bagels and cookies... I could tell by looking at the product there was either an issue with the baker or there's somebody else completely different cooking off their baked goods. The bagels that I usually get were poor cooked... Leaving me to think they don't even Baker on bagels anymore, as they were white... Not golden brown and the cheese because I ordered Parmesan cheese was still white & barely melted on the bagel- leaving you to believe this is all just an afterthought to the product. Unfortunately I used to be a baker and the shit that they're putting out over there right now you might as well go to one of the grocery stores because you're getting the same product at half the price. The cookies that I normally get were over cooked and I asked for them to P put in a bag... Plastic so they would save my cookies were thrown into a paper bag and half of them were broken... No problem paying 1.85 a cookie to look like garbage... Nice if they care about what they're giving to you right, either this place was sold or nobody gives a shit anymore because the product that they're putting out is half ass and in my opinion not worth buying at the price is that they're selling at... Another one of those places that they say the pandemic affected but really they're just into reaming people. Will they be back? That would be a big fat No... We stopped here only because our bus had to wait until the roads opened back up to continue our trip to Tahoe. It's a nice little bakery with a single bathroom and plenty of chairs. Coffee is as cheap as $2 and it's self pour, pre baked goods, pre made sandwiches, and a daily selection of soups. Their himalayan something bread was great with an interesting crunch texture. I got the potato leek soup and it was semi watery and bland - the bread that came with it was nothing to rave about. My friends got coffee and bagels and they were also just very ok. Not a good experience. The expresso drinks were lukewarm at best. There was one young man who was doing all of the work. The one girl was on the phone most of the time. The other girl was apparently doing sandwiches. Superb gluten free and organic options! I had the morning muffin: soft and just the right texture. The Works organic juice was super yummy and not too sweet.
