Awesome first time experience from beginning to end. Friendly and patient staff with my questions and order. I had a pizza bagel toasted with cream cheese, a small hot apple cider and a wheat free chocolate torte. The pizza bagel was the best pizza bagel I've had in a long time. Extra cheese and sauce in the middle of the bagel, mmm perfect. The apple cider was the perfect temperature-not scalding hot, but hot enough. They heated the chocolate torte just enough so it wasn't cold. It was chocolatey, yet nice and light. Total was $12.12. Can't wait to come back and try their other items and fresh juice! Now they leave it in the glass cases as though its fresh i guess, but that croissant was FAR from fresh. Save your money. Not worth it. This bakery is delicious, I love all their pastries and cookies and muffins. The smoothies are also really good, but often full of ice depending on who is making it. I hate that they claim to be gluten free and organic but then have an attitude anytime you have questions about the food you're eating. Someone who eats at these types of places cares and has questions, it shouldn't be such a problem in the afternoon lull to answer them ESPECIALLY since everything is premade and not to order so you cant mod anything, you have to take it as is. Things are gluten free but made in the same kitchen as items with gluten so if you have an actual gluten allergy you have to skip here as there is no way for them to be sure it wasnt cross contaminated. No options for sandwiches besides basic mayo and mustard so if you dont like mayo and dont want only mustard, enjoy a dry ass sandwich with no toppings added. WHY?! If you want to be a bakery, be a bakery, if you want to be a resturant be one, this whole undecided thing isn't working out. If you want fast food made with cleaner ingredients then this is for you. Premade stuff to grab and go! If you want fresh to order, modified in any way, or anything beyond basic flavors pass on the food and go for the junk food and pastries! Well worth it. I have to say, Flour Garden was the best work lunch I've had in a really long time. I'm full, but I want to keep eating. It's so hard to find a good lunch place in Auburn that you can get in and out of in a reasonable amount of time. They had my food ready within 5 minutes. I had a premade tuna sammy, their vegan broccoli mushroom soup, and an iced hibiscus tea. I never buy premade sandwiches but this one was perfect, especially when dipped in the tasty soup. The staff is friendly and they have options for everyone. 10-15 years ago, I used to stop here before soccer games and soccer tournaments for a breakfast bagel. Their bagels are still as good as they were back then. I didn't give 5 stars because I wish the price was a little cheaper, but I know businesses need to make money, so I'll of course come back. read more

Judge me all you want when I tell you I've eaten their apple pie for breakfast on more than one occasion. Judge some more when I tell you that my friend and I buy an entire apple pie and then ask for plastic forks to go with it so we can eat it in the car on our way to Tahoe. Honey badger don't care. Call me crazy, the apple pie here actually tastes (almost) healthy. Chock full of fruit, not too sweet or buttery. A solid crust, but nice and thin on top. When they knock the price down for the whole pie, it's 25% off, around $12.35. A slice is $3.25, so either way it's a deal. Coffees and breads galore. Not bad cappuccinos. The breads don't call to me and the bagels will never be that on NY, but cookies and scones are A-OK. Actually, the fruit scones, yes, get one. The cookies and pastries aren't a deal like the pie, but it comes out in the wash. Bonus for a clean bathroom, outdoor seating, and friendly staff behind the counter. read more

I was driving through Auburn with a friend on our way to the Victorian Christmas in Nevada City. We were hungry but looking for good quality food. We hit the jackpot with the Flour Garden Bakery! We didn't have any of the pastry or organic juices that were available, although there were some fine choices. We had some home made pumpkin soup and split an egg salad sandwich. Wow! This review is for the one vegan cookie and one vegan cupcake they offer. Both suck. They have a weird aftertaste and the flavor is just not tasty. The cupcake was hard to eat as it was carrot and mostly nuts and coconut. It was okay and accounts for one of the stars. The other star is for offering a meager vegan option at all. The cookie was more like a disk of bad cake. I would not make a special trip for their vegan options and certainly will never be back for them. Also the staff was not very professional, chatting about work schedules instead of acknowledging customers and getting annoyed with each other (an eye roll behind your colleagues back? Really?). The young gal said she would double check and then told me she was mistaken and it was a single layer for $37. I really didn't need that much cake but got it anyway. When my husband picked it up they charged him the higher price, didn't have the cake reserved, and took a long time to find the cake and complete the transaction. I called, asked for the manager, and was told that the staff earlier in the day were new and probably got it wrong but he refused to refund the difference. $7 is no big deal. I was upset with the customer service. On top of all that, the icing was too sweet and the cake was a little dry. But the panini served to us was black burnt when they tried to pull it off like it was extra crispy. They turned it over to cover the blackest part. What a charming place!! I would never expect to see a "little shangri-la" right there, off I 80 in Auburn. Especially one in a strip mall that included a Save Mart and a CVS Pharmacy. It's small inside, but as soon as you walk in you're confronted by all kinds of baked treats. What REALLY impressed me was self-serve coffee WITH CERAMIC COFFEE CUPS!!! Yes, real, live, breakable coffee cups - in two sizes, no less!! Pour your coffee and sip away while you're in line to pay. How about that? I also got a really nice-tasting date bar. (Hey, my wife, the attorney, has the Date Commission as a client, I had to support them!) I sat outside and spent a very pleasurable hour at a business meeting while drinking the coffee and eating the date bar. The only negative is the occasional big, noisy truck that drove by. I have been in here a few times because it's one of the few places NEAR Auburn that will make fresh squeezed juice. i had an unpleasant experience here when I paid and ordered 32 oz of fresh squeezed juice. The girl told me it'll take a while since there is a few more juice orders ahead of me. okay no problem. Then she made tons of juice and gave extra juice to this other customer that didn't even buy anything ... still more waiting. No juice for me, the paying customer that is waiting for her juice. I'm certainly going to give this little bakery the benefit of a doubt. We were driving along, looking for a place to eat, and decided it was between this place or Togos. We saw soups and sandwiches on the menu board and decided this would be the place for lunch. Atmosphere: Coffee shop meets garage sale. Service: Friendly but disorganized. The ordering system is confusing and the staff stumble over each other to ring up orders. Food: Turkey Chili: My boyfriend ate about two bites of it and left it. Parmesan Tomato: A chunky tomato soup that's heavy heavy heavy on the cream. It tasted like cream, not a creamy soup. I imagined my arteries clogging and wondered how MUCH saturated fat was in it as I ate about two bites of it and gave it to my boyfriend. He ate about one bite and left it. Vegan Tofu Salad Sandwich: I actually thought this was pretty good. I would eat this again, the tofu salad was tasty and the bread was soft and yummy. The bread that comes with the soup: Yum! This is bread is soft and yummy! Honestly, this bakery should just stick to pastries and other baked goods. All of the baked goods looked delicious and huge, so I think we should just come back for bagels and turnovers. I wish I wouldn't have tried to eat lunch here. We have eaten here many times on the way to Donner Summit from the Bay Area. It is a great stop just off hwy 80 and a convenient place to get coffee and baked goods or soups, and sandwiches. The staff has always been very friendly, and it is often quite busy. We especially like the macaroons. They have outdoor tables which we appreciate so we can take our dog, and they cheerfully bring your food to you. There are "day old" bargains too. The juices are very good but very pricey, also when I told the counter girl that there was a fly in the display case all the way inside of the croissant and landing on all of the pastries she was extremely rude and short with me during my order "is that all?" She said after every item I tried to order so I cut my order short to try not to bother her. And then she continued to glare at me until I had to leave from being so uncomfortable, every time I looked up she was glaring across the restaurant. Hopefully they let her go. One of the only places that I can get my millet flour bread - doctor's orders. But purchased a loaf of garlic asiago loaf for the rest of my family and they loved it. Thanks for slicing my bread for me and making life easier! Also appreciated the COVID care, mask wearing - plastic shields and care taking to be safe and slow the spread. Flour Garden Bakery sounded like it should be delightful - but it wasn't. Despite the signage about using all natural chicken and turkey ("in salads, sandwiches..."), their selection was limited to a few pre-made and highly packaged items. We went to Togos next door for lunch (which wasn't bad!) We came back for dessert which looked like their specialty. The macaroons were delicious, but the oatmeal raisin cookie was below average. The cashier overcharged us by 2x and when we asked her to recalculate the tab, she was surly and said "oh, you are right". No apology. It was self-serve on a $2 cup of tea but she couldn't be bothered to explain where the hot water was (behind the counter of coffee? That's intuitive!) While she may have been having a bad day...she managed to ruin part of ours. read more

15 years ago, this place was the place to go. Today, the pastries are overpriced, the staff doesn't smile, and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Support local businesses but stick to the coffee (they have organic and fair trade) here because there's not much else worth supporting the extra cost especially for a family of 4. So, I bought a cake from this place for a going away party from someone at my work. Almost 40 dollars and it was stale and looked like a child wrote the message on it. I called back to make them aware of the situation. Spoke to Alex who asked me if it was discounted? I replied no, why do you ask? He said if it was day old or two days old, it should have been discounted. If I was given the option up front, I never would have ordered it. The last thing I would want to do is give someone a stale cake. Given the fact it was almost 40 dollars I assume it was not discounted. I was made aware that Flour Garden doesn't do any of the baking on site and they do not have professional cake decorators there. They get all their baked good shipped in from somewhere else and they frost them and decorate them there, although not professionally. That's hat you get for 40 bucks. The only thing professional about this place is the price they charge, not the goods they deliver. At the end of the phone call Alex said he would have his manager refund the money and call me back. Two days later, no phone call and no refund. I called the Flour Garden back to follow up. I got Alex on the phone. He didn't know what happened and said he would follow up again. Said Sierra, his boss, would call me back. I must have sounded irritated because he told me to chill out. Is that any way to speak to a customer? I don't think so... still have not received a call back or a refund. Take your business somewhere else. This place is unprofessional and they're rude on top of it. I adore Flour Garden and have for like ever :) Gosh I think I have been going there since i was in high school and that was a really really long time ago, uhmmm yes, I have a 12 year old now. Yes, as pointed out in other reviews its a bit on the pricy side BUT personally I think its worth it. The staff is always so nice and friendly, they take a personal interest and will always make small talk with us as a family be it about where we went out of town, sons soccer game or my moms quest to find the perfect cat. Their savor food is always tasty and they have a good selection of organic, vegan and vegetarian friendly items. Its all done deli style :) The pastries are also yummy :) Though mostly we are fans of the bagels...which are delish! The garlic cream cheese is a do not miss!! yep, free wi-fi which is groovy, but sadly the inside isnt the most charming so I dont know if its really worth it....reason I subtracted one star. I dont drink coffee so I can't really comment on the quality of it BUT I do really like their homemade lemonade and their chai. read more

We walked out with gluten free cranberry muffin (spongey and filling); bear claw (met my husbands expectations); fresh juice 16oz flu shot (vibrant orange and very well balanced flavors); gunpowder loose-leaf tea (exactly what my husband loves); and the house chai with almond milk (thankfully not loaded with sugar) all for $22 which I was very happy about. I would give five stars if there was more of a gluten free selection of pastries and if it was more clear who I order from. They have a cash register and many people behind the counter but typically you ask for a pastry from the person behind that case instead of the person at the register.
