I spent a couple weeks gathering all the components I've been eyeing and made the pilgrimage down to Micro Center (in Tustin) to take advantage of a great MOBO/Proc/RAM bundle. The last time I built a PC was in 2008 and at this point in my life, I just wanted an expert to help me get everything running and optimized. Gar was that expert. This guy knows his stuff and I couldn't be happier with my (first) experience at Helix. He runs the shop by himself and is clearly a lifelong PC enthusiast. It was really cool to see all his customers more 'aesthetic' builds that were in progress. I'm old so I wanted something with as little RGB as possible (haha). He even has a mini museum of PC components from decades past on display which really sent me down a VERY nerdy memory lane. He put together a 9800X3D / 5080 air cooled monster and everything runs perfectly. He optimized Win11 and walked me through everything he did when I picked up the machine. To be fair, I have an older Mac with a butterfly keyboard, which aren't the best keyboards. But I never had any problems with the spacebar until I took it in, and no other part of my keyboard has ever malfunctioned. So, I asked to have the spacebar fixed, and Mo had his technician try to fix it. However, when I received the computer back, the spacebar had the same issues, and it wasn't even attached to the keyboard. It literally just came off. When I checked YouTube about inserting a spacebar on a butterfly keyboard, all the posters said you have to be very careful not to break the spacebar when you take it off, and it appeared that the spacebar was broken. But I'm no technician, so I took it back again to see if they could fix it. When I picked it up for the third time, the spacebar was attached to the keyboard, but it still didn't work like it had before I first brought it in. Sometimes it doesn't work at all; sometimes it double-spaces even though I press it once. Honestly, the spacebar isn't really functional unless I have an external keyboard, which sometimes is really inconvenient. I decided not to press the matter because both Mo and Apple confirmed that, to fix the spacebar, you have to replace the entire keyboard, which is incredibly time-consuming and tedious for a butterfly keyboard. I also didn't know how well a new keyboard install would go if the spacebar fix went like it did. Mo also quoted me $130 for the fix, and Apple quoted me like $400, which is too big an investment for a nine-year-old laptop. In the end, I just wish I had a computer with a working battery and spacebar. Like I said, the new battery works well, but if you told me in the beginning that I would basically be trading the functionality of my battery for my spacebar, I probably wouldn't have done it (and my battery was in desperate shape).

Smaller screens, older vintage, Intel chips...wow, less than I imagined. What about the bigger screens ? 16" M1 MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and a 512GB SSD...for $945. I have some questions...a person named "Carol" has received many appreciative comments ...let me email first. (Quick, same day response !) She answered my questions with no hesitation. Next day ready to buy...I called Carol...so wonderful to talk to and she reassured me when I asked about its' condition, Carol said that it was in excellent shape. When it arrived late Saturday by FEDEX, it was carefully bubble wrapped. A 140 Watt power source was nestled next to the laptop. When the laptop was removed....it looks...NEW !!! Our son opened it and quickly got to work. The picture and sound are incredible. He is IMPRESSED !!! After opening the PC and putting it in, I ended up actually busting my geforce video card and the screens wouldn't show anything anymore. I went to geek squad on besbuy at labrea and they wanted to charge me 200 dollars to take 3-5 days to diagnose the problem, because they weren't sure about what it was. I said no ty, went for some lunch and found Computer Works with the help of a store clerk on gamestop. Turns out these guys are a block from where I live, and for being such a small store, I hadn't even reminded that they were there. In the end, I got there, showed the guy my computer and told him my story. I really couldn't afford the 3-5 days of wait to diagnose because I have to finish some work within that time frame, and it's all inside my PC. In 10 min, he made all the tests, figured out it was the videocard's memory, and charged me only 25 bucks. I insisted in paying more but they didn't let me. They ordered me a new and better geforce 250 gts card for a total of 198 bucks (the price geek squad wanted me to pay for "diagnosis"). This is the kind of place where you want to go, where they really dont have a nice little brand with TV commercials, but it's a place where they will be nice and truth to you, and won't charge you a penny extra for that. I bought with them a computer duster, that was like 35 bucks in best buy, for $4,50 with them. And one more thing, because I'm not done yet. Right now I'm at home, writing this review, with my computer running on one of their video cards, that they let me have while my new video card is being shipped. If that's not caring about your customer, I don't know what is! No where else for me as far as computers go. I hope they stay in business for long, so that I will always know my PC is safe.

Phone in hand, I got there first thing at 8am on a Tuesday. Mr Bipul who runs the store was so kind and assured me everything would look great. By 8:10am my screen cracked phone was fixed professionally and ready for only $15. I'll definitely use this place again!
