We met with Nick, discussed what was desired in our family member's funeral, and he guided us to explore the different options. While difficult, Nick made it as easy as anyone could possibly make it, and did not attempt to influence our decisions one way or another. He simply presented the options and allowed us to decide. Once done, he prepared a detailed quote. While their full service funeral service is not inexpensive and there may be less expensive options, we found that Nick and team managed every element of the process and ceremonies very well and were professional from start to finish. We have no regrets and recommend Nick and team at Hodder Farenga Funeral Home.

We were mourning the death of my mother in law, it's stressful and who has the mind to think? Everything here is over priced. And things on the bill are repeated just worded differently, so ur basically paying for the same services a few times. But not only that, you pay over $3k for things such as supervision and for someone to direct the guests, that wasn't done, everyone was walking in the wrong direction causing traffic in the room. They also asked us which flower arrangements we wanted to keep after all is said and done, we told them which arrangements and we put it on a side table and they promised to set it aside to pick up after the funeral. Well that wasn't the case, the next day when we called to let them know we were picking them up, we learned that they sold our flower arrangements back to the other florists they work with. He then told us he would replace them but he never did. They return your phone calls before they get your money, but once you pay, your on your own. There was only one person that was a good guy and that was Carl. Everyone else there is disgusting. They are patronizing and condescending and don't give a crap about people that are mourning Bc it's something they do everyday, they are like robots. Oh and on top of it he said he would take off $200 off the bill, because the hair and makeup charges were over $500 which is ridiculous... when it was time to pay he didn't take it off the bill, instead Nick played stupid as if he was going to do it at the end...we had him recalculate everything Bc the total was way above what we agreed on. We made him break it all down. then he adjusted to the correct number. Then he just took $125 off the over calculated bill. We were so tired and stressed that it wasn't even worth arguing at that point. Beware of this place. Make sure you do your research on prices before you shop around. We chose that place Bc of the location, wasn't even worth it. Nick Farenga your a disgusting pig.

At the cemetary, as the priest blessed the coffin, I recognized that the funeral home embossed the wrong name on the outside of my father's coffin! There was nothing I could do at that moment because of distraught family members. If I were there alone, I would have stopped the burial! Instead, I immediately contacted the funeral home. To this day, four months later, Matt and the funeral home have not corrected the problem. I have called a number of times. I would NOT recommend this funeral home because of their insincerity and refusal to take responsibility for their mistake. The idea of my father's coffin having the wrong name on it makes me crazy on a daily basis. My father has gone to meet his Maker in a coffin with a mistake that will stay there virtually forever. My mother died in 2018, and I should have posted this review then, but it was too hard…read more Ed Fox went above and beyond to handle all the arrangements for Mom's burial. She died on a Friday in NYC and that happened to be the same weekend that the NYC computer system that handled death certificates was getting updated. Apparently, that update had been tried before and crashed, so there was some question about whether the computerized death certificate could be issued by the city in time for the burial we had scheduled for Tuesday. The old system was shut down before Mom's death certificate was issued and we had to wait at least a day (or maybe it was even until Sunday) to see whether the city's new computer system would even function. Meanwhile, the hospice doctor didn't want to issue a hand-written death certificate (which was the fall-back) if the new system was going to work. Ed kept us well-informed and he was even prepared to drive to New York himself to get the handwritten death certificate if that was the only way that the burial could happen on time. Fortunately, the new computer system didn't crash, the death certificate was issued, and the funeral and burial could proceed as planned. Everything went smoothly at the temple (where we held the reception and the funeral) and at the cemetery. Fox did well by us at a very difficult time.

They picked up her remains, cremated her in a timely fashion, returned over paid money without request, were there for me at any moment when I called with questions and could not be any more professional. Lori the daughter of the the generational owner was superb. I went to the parlor about 2 months after the cremation as I wanted to have prayer cards made. They pulled her file within 30 seconds. I was taken care of by a young man that is somewhat new in the business, but he was wonderful too. We designed, ordered and paid for the cards in twenty minutes. They then allowed me into their chapel to say a prayer or two. There will be more services needed in my lifetime and I will be sure to use this parlor and family owned organization. They made it seem like they had shipped caskets to other states, but the shipment was delayed a couple days because they really didn't know what they were doing. Some of the smaller things were flubbed as well: they said they'd send the death certificates in the casket itself and then didn't, we chose one inscription for the casket and they ended up doing a different one. At no point did we get an apology or even a "thank you for your patience on this matter". The receiving facility was part of a larger chain, and the Pelham folks made it seem like we wouldn't be getting a personal touch from them, though the smaller company screwed up anyway. There should be plenty of competitors that deserve your business more than these guys.
