After my sister's recent passing, our family entrusted all the arrangements with Ruggerio & Sons. In particular, Michelle (5th generation) was phenomenal. She was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful. She handled everything seamlessly. She was the liaison with the church, the cemetery, and the memorial company, among others. Additionally, Ruggerio & Sons is a very clean, tasteful establishment with well appointed decor.....beautiful paintings and tapestries. I honestly never thought I'd be "reviewing" a funeral home, but due to certain circumstances recently and the service that was received, I felt it was necessary. I checked in here on the day only because I wanted to remember that I was going to write this review. Firstly, this place has been around for many, many years. It was always here for just about the time I've been in the area. They have a great reputation. I've been in here for wakes a few times over the years, but of course going to pay respects you don't really pay too much attention to much inside the actual funeral home - or at least I don't. This time, it was a close family member of mine who passed away, so I was more directly involved. Plus due to the current pandemic (as of this writing), the general way things have been affected changed certain aspects of what a normal arrangement would be. I'm not sure if it was the owner (or one of them) or not, but the gentleman who assisted us both before and on the day was excellent. He was warm, considerate, and unless he was the best actor out there, you could tell he had a caring nature of what we were going through. My father handled more the arrangements than I did, so I can't get into detail about those aspects. On the day, due to the current rules - only four of us were permitted inside. Everything was clean and the place were generally comfortable. We were treated with respect and attentiveness during this difficult time. The limo driver was also very good - just the hearse and the limo for that day. Not too much more to write, but if ever in need of a place like this, I would not only consider them but I would recommend others consider them as well. Thank you for everything. read more

The Ruggiero family treated my family and needs with the upmost respect and dignity. My family is very large and observed Hindu rites. The Ruggieros were incredibly thoughtful of all the specific ceremonies needed to be carried out. I've never carried out funeral arrangments prior to this and Andrew was patient and offered helpful advice for managing conversations with my insurance provider as we finalized paperwork. Additionally, yhe funeral had a turnout much, much larger than our room.could hold. The director and staff quickly provided additional seating, found an additional room to help.people get comfortable, and overall, helped ensure that this final experience ran smoothly as possible. This was the chosen funeral home for my aunt when it was imminent she would need these services as her cancer progressed. I didn't deal with the arrangements myself, but my mother assisted (who doesn't use Yelp) and she and my family were impressed with the whole process, between communicating my aunt's wishes and helping to carry them out. Andrew was our point of contact and he was readily accessible whenever my family had questions, and he accompanied us throughout the process of saying goodbye to our loved one with professionalism, knowledge, and care. They struck a wonderful balance between keeping things timely and giving us the time and space we needed to say goodbye. On the day of her funeral, everything went smoothly thanks to their help. As native of the Wakefield section of the Bronx, the name 'F Ruggiero & Sons' has been a brand I have known for decades. I use to pass the former location on White Plains Road (close to East 237th Street) as a small boy everytime I went grocery shopping with my late mother during the 1980s. After their departure from the neighborhood sometime during the 1990s, I always knew that someday I would have to call on them to properly send one of my loved ones on their ultimate journey. After a horrific experience with a Bronx-based funeral chain that caters to the Latino community (not mentioning name) after my mother's death from cancer in February 2008, I told my sister I will not utilize that funeral home's services whenever it was my father's turn to start his voyage to Paradise. She understood completely and on September 15, 2016, she made the call me and my siblings dreaded when my father, Ramon, died peacefully in his sleep after 89 beautiful years on this earth. I flew into New York from my home in Toronto and zoomed up to Yonkers via Metro North. when I arrived, I found myself in a beautiful, solemn environment that brought peace to my heart. Viewing my father, who looked not only peaceful but handsome in his traditional 'guayabera' shirt and black slacks, I was moved to tears. I was so elated and proud of not only the facilities and services provided by the staff of this amazing instiution, but their kindness. They provided me a letter on request which I had to provide to my local unemployment office so that I was paid for the days I was away for my father's funeral. Furthermore, the staff did an amazing job organizing burial honors with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I was extremely moved to tears the morning of September 20, when the pallbearers who transported my father's casket from their Yonkers location to St. Francis of Rome Church on East 236th Street and Barnes Avenue in Wakefield (my family's parish for over two decades) brought the casket into the church and bowed and paid their respect to the huge crucifix depicting the Crucifixtion. Their staff also accompanied me and my family to my father's burial at St. Raymond's and took care of arrangements with the cemetery's officials. I can't express my sincerest thanks to the amazing staff and family at F. Ruggiero & Sons. Everyone was a class act and I returned to my home in Toronto knowing that my father got the goodbye he truly deserved. Highly Recommended! Not only are they a New York legacy, to me they are my heroes for giving my father a beautiful goodbye. read more

A year ago my father passed away and since then I have been meaning to leave a review. I come from a huge Albanian community. We have very specific needs and traditions. On top of accommodating all of those there were several things I needed guidance with as it was my first time making these type of arrangements. Both of my parents had their services held here, and I was amazed at how great the staff was in both instances. My mom had been a devout Buddhist, and although I'm sure it isn't common for them to hold Buddhist services, they researched the traditions and helped to plan accordingly within those traditions. The staff addressed us by our names and made us feel like personal acquaintances. They were incredibly respectful, personable, and professional, making the difficult times a bit easier to endure.
