My family have lived in lower Westchester for almost fifty years, and so when my Mom died suddenly this December, I had to make arrangements from my home in Minnesota, so you can imagine the powerful mixture of denial, grief, and confusion as I searched for a funeral home on the Web with the goal of taking possession of Mom's body as fast as possible from the hospital. I searched in Bronxville, Scarsdale, and Pelham, with the first two based on recommendations and Pelham based on my Mom's longstanding relationships in the town. I called Pelham Funeral Home and quickly got a call back from Clive Anderson, the owner, who took over the PFH in February 2014. He was calm, patient and spoke in language that was attentive to my emotions. On a Saturday afternoon, he promised that he would "bring Mom home" and let me know the moment she arrived at PFH. He personally called me back exactly as promised, where I had expected an associate to handle this. It was comforting to know that the owner of the business was actively and personally involved in preparing my Mom's funeral. Clive took my siblings and I through a call lasting almost two hours in which he laid out in great detail every choice and step in the process of creating a celebration of Mom's life and memories for the family and all of her friends. On very short notice, we had family coming in from Canada, France, Texas, Western New York State, NYC and Westchester. Things were hectic and chaotic. Clive's recommendation of two viewing sessions with a break in between for the family was brilliant; it allowed friends to plan around their schedules and gave the family a chance to have a nice dinner together to recharge and to remember why they were there. The atmosphere of PFH is like a comfortable home, and there was room to move around and for conversation circles to form in different configurations, e.g. chairs, couches, around video screens which really showed off well the photos the family curated from our collection and wove into a nice arc of Mom's life. Clive personally guided us through this process, and I have never experienced anything like this in all of the funerals I have attended over the years for my friends. His staff are all well trained and attentive to the model that PFH advertises. They deliver what they advertise. Mom's funeral Mass was held at St. Catherine Church in Pelham, and here again Clive is so well known in the Pelham community that helped us make good decisions about the celebrant, music and prayers. His personal involvement continued start to finish. I like to ask questions and to understand the basis for costs, services and options. Feel free to ask Clive anything you want.. He will explain everything patiently until you feel comfortable. When emotions are raw and energy depleted, this compassionate service is extremely valuable. Every one of our family felt that we gave Mom a sendoff and remembrance that was fully worthy of the life she led. It has taken me a little over 3 months to have the strength to write this note, but it is necessary and much deserved. My Husband Michael died on Dec 16th 2015, we were married 36 years and together for 38 yrs. I was a complete mess and I called Clive to tell him my husband was in his final hours, he immediately called Father Trevor and they both arrived instantly. After Michael passed Clive came again and took my husband out of our home and to Pelham Funeral Home with the utmost care and respect. The next day I met with Clive to make arrangements, this was all new to me and I was afraid I would not know what to do and every detail was important. We sat for at least 3 hours. Clive asked so many questions (or as I told my children "he interrogated me"). Through my tears, Clive brought me back through the years and I was smiling and even laughing as I answered his many questions. I felt like I was the only person he had attended; he would not even answer the phone while we spoke. During this most difficult time I felt I had a friend who took control. He called me constantly before the wake and always asked another question or for another piece of memorabilia. The day I dreaded arrived and I walked into the funeral home early that day to prepare myself. Michael looked so handsome and as he did before he was sick. The 2 rooms were devoted to his memory, there was videos, pamphlets, pictures and boards to write memories. The prayer cards and thank-you notes were also personalized. There was also bottles of water always available, Clive provided a room to pay your respects and a room to just think and talk about Michael. I never before understood what a "celebration of life meant". On the final morning as we all said our final goodbye, there was soft music playing and I realized it was my wedding song ("I love you just the way you are"). How did he remember this? It was from his interrogation!! He also remembered my husband had an old pick-up truck that he loved. He told me it should be on the street as we passed the house, and the procession stopped, Clive got out of his car and placed a red rose on the truck. I kept that rose. Family and friends are still commenting on Michaels services. They could not believe the attention to every detail and yet I did not know Clive till my husband died. As you may realize there is not enough I can say about this man and his business. In my darkest hours I go back to the wake and funeral to get some comfort. My father, John Cermanski had suddenly passed away on Thursday, March 21st , 2019. My parents have been Pelham Manor residents for 40 years and my father was very active in the Pelham Community. He was in the Pelham Manor Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and was a member of the Pelham Civics as well as the in the Men's Club of Pelham. We have attended many funerals at Pelham Funeral Home and each time we have gone, we see the same things: it's extremely well maintained, clean, beautiful and all of the staff are extremely kind and helpful. Without hesitation, we called the Pelham Funeral Home right away to help plan my dad's final farewell. The funeral director, Clive Anderson is so kind hearted, genuine, and has an amazing heart. From the moment I called him to the ending of our planning time with him, he was extremely attentive, took care of everything right away and made the extremely difficult planning a bit easier because he was extremely helpful, passionate and organized. Even though we had limited time to plan a funeral, Clive was extremely supportive and very professional from the beginning to the end. He is the best of the best and we are blessed to have found an amazing funeral director to work with. As long time Pelham residents, our family had our father's wake at the Pelham Funeral Home with Clive Anderson, funeral director, handling all arrangements for his wake and funeral. We cannot say enough good things about Clive and the professional manner in which he handled every aspect of our Dad's final arrangements. Clive sat down for hours with our family to gather the details of our wishes and delivered every last one... and then some. For example, we had a last minute cancellation of a singer we invited to sing at our Dad's funeral. Clive reassured us and found an exceptional singer and accompanist at the 11th hour. When the funeral procession drove by my father's home following the funeral mass at St. Catherine's Church, Clive stopped the procession, got out of the car and placed a rose in front of our father's house. You can see from the bright elegant decor and amazing attention to details that they care and make sure that you do not have to lift a finger. Mr. Anderson created a funeral home that feels like an actual home and I have never visited a funeral home like this before. From the video slideshow playing on two tv's, a very large vinyl photo collage mounted on the wall, canvas family portraits on the wall, remembrance cards and photo brochures for every guest, 6 foot vinyl vertical banner with chosen photos and a amazing portrait that guests can write their condolences on. My mom recently passed away, and I assume I would be inundated with several tasks. Pelham Funeral Home's staff coordinated all tasks seamlessly, and I virtually didn't have to lift a finger except to provided the necessary items the funeral home requested. My mom's viewing and funeral service was outstanding. Pictures of my mom were elegantly placed in the viewing room. The folks attending the viewing were impressed with the pamphlets they were given.
