My son got married this past weekend....everything was perfect! Since he and his bride live in California, they had to make all of the arrangements from afar...I did not have to do anything...so on the day of the wedding, I showed up and just took it all in. Before I was even engaged I had already seen the work that Michelle would produce and it was always so beautiful! So when my husband and I were engaged and planning out our wedding I didn't hesitate to sit down with Michelle when our wedding coordinator, Shari Dang, recommended her due to our vision. Michelle Maeda is a floral genius! Thanks to her, our wedding was beautiful. We received so many compliments on the flowers and decor. We couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out. From the moment we met Michelle we knew we had to book her. She is incredibly sweet and very creative. We gave her our "love bird" theme and told her that we wanted an elegant and clean wedding, and she gave us exactly that. Some of her ideas were so creative, such as adding little birds to the branches on our outside altar, adding a chandelier in the altar (so elegant), and using birds nests with rose petals for tossing. Each nest had loose petals shaped as a rose and had a tag that read "As the newlyweds walk your way, toss the petals and shout "hooray!". Our guests loved the little details. And the centerpieces were gorgeous. Each table had a tall elegant vase with white hydrangeas and tulips and hanging tear-drop crystals. The word we kept hearing all night was "classy". We also loved our sweetheart table, which had vases of varying sizes with pink, ivory, and gray flowers. It felt really vintage and elegant. She also brought the tall clear cylinder vases with cherry blossoms and candles from the ceremony site and surrounded our sweetheart table and cake table with them. Loved it. Our bouquets were also fabulous. People say that Hawaii is about 2 seasons behind in the wedding industry, but I think Michelle is on it when it comes to incorporating the latest trends. Her prices are also reasonable in comparison to other florists of the same caliber. I had met Michelle at a vendor party and heard she could make custom arrangements for Mother's Day-- i had also seen her work online and was amazed by her beautiful creations. When i spoke to her and asked her about how I wanted a customized arrangement, her wonderful personality and customer service sealed the deal for me. When I told her my boyfriend's mom was a painter and that it might be cool to make an arrangement based on her work, Michelle was extremely enthusiastic to be able to use her creativity to put together something inspired by the colors and tone of his mother's paintings. I barely gave her any instructions (all i did was decide the size of the piece I could afford), and she did everything on her own. Everything was done remotely via my wedding planner, and I could only describe what I wanted using inspirational pictures from magazines/online images. Michelle's work was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! As a bride, I didn't have a very strong floral vision for my wedding, but my then-fiance/now-husband and I had decided that we wanted to give the decor a very lush, tropical feel. I had attempted to make my own orchid boquets for my wedding and it was an epic fail, so i decided to email a bunch of florists asking for their prices. She was the ONLY one that responded with a price list! Some asked what it was for and when i responded back, they NEVER responded back! So i was instantly hooked on her communication and her prices before i met her! We met at the Wedding Cafe, discussed what i wanted and then just chit chatted the whole time. I loved the bouquets, but my all white orchid bouquet looked a bit brown around the edges and droopy. My bridesmaids green orchid bouquets were plump and beautiful. Luckily, you couldn't tell in pictures. My husband's double maile lei with orchid strand had a few dead leaves in it and kept untwisting. It was a pain in the butt cause it was tied on the bottoms. It still looked great in photos though! For 3 all orchid bouquets, 2 hair flowers, 4 boutonierres and a double maile lei with orchid strand was UNDER $500. YAY! If you don't know, orchids are hella expensive...have you ever gone down to Watanabe Floral? 1 stem is $40-50! and they don't sell them by the bloom!
