I had an amazing stay at Harborview Inn in Charleston! The staff is incredibly responsive and attentive--any request we had was handled quickly and with a smile. The perks were fantastic: wine and cheese evenings, cookies and milk at night, daily continental breakfast, and even bike rentals. The location is perfect--pristine views of the water, just a short walk to King Street, historic landmarks, great restaurants, and lively pubs. Getting to Sullivan's Island was a breeze with a quick Uber. Everything about this stay exceeded my expectations. If I come back to Charleston, I would definitely stay here again. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about our stay before coming after reading some of the reviews. We just checked out on 7/10/2026, so our stay was recent. And I have to say, our experience was better than most 5-star hotels (those hotels with that rating in Charleston weren't spectacular). Why? Because of the perks that come with the room like: breakfast at the time of your choosing in the morning which they'll serve in room, in the atrium or on the terrace. A very polite and helpful staff. Everyone spoke to you as they passed you by. They had dining and city tour recommendations. They served wine and cheese in the evening and milk and fresh-baked cookies at the end of each night! We stayed in a good size room (#102) and though it was right off the front side of the building, the noise from the street wasn't noticeable during our entire 4-night stay. The service at this hotel was 5 stars. The front desk, valet and housekeeping staff were all friendly, helpful and really went above and beyond. The hotel itself is meh. For $500 a night my expectations were a lot higher. The interior is kind of generic. Charleston has so much history and character not reflected in the decor. Our bathroom was a bit run down with a chipped and stained vanity and our fridge was moldy inside. The soaps and lotions were not name brands. It was quiet and secure. The location is very central. If it was $300 a night I would have no complaints. They do offer free water bottles and flavored waters in a central lounge area. We did not have breakfast there (check out Millers All Day or Harken) or wine and cheese. My kids hit up the milk and cookies which was a free for all of mostly adult hoarding 2 or 3 cookies each. If you are looking for a trendy or boutique hotel, I think there are better options in Charleston. If you just want a solid, middle of the road place that is in a good neighborhood and offers free snacks, this could be the place for you. read more

Beautiful stay we had at the Harbour View Inn. The staff was very tentative to all our needs. The rooms are gorgeous and the location was perfect for all the things we wanted to do when visiting Charleston. I think this is a great fit for anyone going away on a romantic trip. Well appointed large rooms with outstanding service make this a great choice for your stay in Charleston

The hotel is beautiful but not handicap friendly, so plan on walking up stairs to check in. If you are lucky enough to get a good room, whichever room you get, you will see and hear construction all around. You can't get away from the construction that is everywhere! We stayed in the nicest room and had a wonderful view of construction. We blocked a room with a river front, but the construction blocked the view, so there's that. There isn't much to do either unless you are a heavy drinker. The fountain outside the hotel is nice, and watching the homeless people bathe in it was an experience. The river is filthy and there are homeless people everywhere that get very upset if you don't take a flower from them. We stayed for 8 days and wanted to have one down day the day before we had to leave to go home and relax in the hotel room and watch television but the hotel won't allow you to stream Netflix or anything, so if you want to relax in the room for a day, plan on sleeping the day away because you can't stream anything, but you can watch the news all day. Not many channels. The only option you have while staying in the hotel is drink, drink, drink. There is nothing else to do but drink or eat your days away while navigating around all the construction. Nice hotel, great staff, but I wouldn't recommend staying for more than a day or 2 unless you like construction, rats absolutely everywhere, tons of homeless people and nothing to watch or stream on TV. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant so plan on doing a ton of walking around the most lovely view of all the construction. I won't ever return. The 1st couple of days were fun walking, eating and drinking, but that's all there is to do and the town is filthy and you can't get away from the construction that's all around. The hotel should really consider allowing guests to stream through the TV or put Netflix, Paramount or some network on so on a down day you can enjoy relaxing in the room. The air conditioner leaked water all over the place, so our floor was constantly wet and they have a fridge that's disgustingly moldy but no microwave. Extremely dissapointed. We talked with a lot of friends that say charleston is beautiful, but it's crowded, filthy, full of rats the size of cats, and construction everywhere. Even the best room in the house (that we booked) gave us a gorgeous view of the construction instead of the water. read more

Harbourview Inn was a lovely place to stay for a long weekend getaway to Charleston. I stayed here for three nights while exploring downtown Charleston. It is a great location as it is right next to the harbor and close by to a lot of different restaurants and bars. With the covid pandemic, I'd encourage checking to see which places are open though as some were closed during my stay. It is sad that there is a new development being built right across the street from HVI. Once it's completed it'll block the nice harbor views some of the rooms get at HVI but at least it's still a good location. The staff here (shout out to Doug!) where so welcoming and friendly. They were always around to be helpful and explain their new normal with covid precautions. To reduce exposure to covid, they offer sanitizer wipes at check in and allow you to determine your preferences with housekeeeping services. They also keep each room vacant after it's been used for 24 hours as an additional precaution which made me feel better. They still offer their amenities of complimentary breakfast and a wine and cheese happy hour daily. The difference is they individually prepare each meal and happy hour plate so it isn't buffet style. This was actually great for breakfast as we just ordered what we wanted the night before (hung out the menu order on the door handle) and they dropped off the tray of food at your specified time. There was a mix of hot foods and cold foods such as a quiche, muffins, cereal, toast, etc. They also offered coffee and juices. They still offer the complimentary happy hour special with wine and light bites. The food was already prepped and individually wrapped for each person to limit exposure and contamination which I was very impressed with. The folks at HVI really took the extra step to continue to ensure their guests enjoyed their amenities but maintained a safe and clean environment. This hotel was definitely a dream spot for our stay. Not only because of the spacious rooms and nice amenities, but the location and staff really put it above others places to stay. Oh, and the best part is their rooftop terrace! It's a great spot to enjoy the Happy Hour special as well as watch the sunset and check out the downtown area and harbor views. This place is a gem! Rooms are immaculate, staff is attentive and kind. Breakfast is included and you can have it in your room, in the lobby are, atrium or rooftop deck. There's a beautiful wine and cheese spread every day from 5-6 and delicious baked cookies and milk every day from 9-10. It's centrally located to everything so no driving is necessary. It is located right at the Waterfront area so the views are beautiful. I highly recommend this hotel. There are only 52 rooms so no crowded feeling at all. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but, the Harbourview Inn deserves one! I arrived too early in the morning (when everyone else in SC was in REM), exhausted from a long flight. But, Nathan was so kind and accommodating and made sure that my check-in was smooth and quick. I was staying in Charleston for 8 days so it was important for me that my accommodations were going to be nice and the Harbourview didn't let me down. If you want breakfast, it is included. They have wine and cheese in the afternoon and even chocolate chip cookies in the evening. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are spacious, and the hotel is in a great location. The hotel is also COVID compliant which made me feel very comfortable as this was my first trip since the COVID outbreak. I travel a lot and what makes the Harbourview Inn stand out above so many other hotels is how accommodating the management is and how you are not just a number. They truly do make you feel that you are special. During my stay, I always felt that management and the employees cared if my stay with them was comfortable and if I was enjoying Charleston. You don't find this in a lot of hotels. Every time I would pass by Nathan and Doug, they would always ask me how I was doing and if I needed anything. I could always count on them for great tips and recommendations. Every hotel should have such kind, friendly, and accommodating people like Nathan and Doug. Valet service is great! Your car is always brought to you by a friendly person with a smile. You also aren't awakened, at the crack of dawn, by a knock on the door from housekeeping. This was great as I am not a morning person. It could be because I was on the first floor, either way, it was wonderful! Special shout out to Jason, Nathan, Doug, Mike, Melony, Hayden, and Hugh. I also want to thank all of the other wonderful people who work at this great hotel and who made my trip so memorable! Check in was to be 3, but was told if they got our room done early they would call me, it was done early, no call. So we arrived at 3 to check in, only to be brushed off by a staff member who looked at me like I was interrupting a conversation who then got the person I was to check in with.(Apparently guests are just rude by showing up.) She asked if I could help her and I said we were checking in, and acted like I was beneath her and I had also interrupted a conversation with her and 2 others and how dare I take her away from such important gossip just to check in. The room was tiny. Clearly they updated things, but the door was busted, AC was dripping water which we wiped off so we did not have to deal with staff but as pic shows it started condensing again, the filter?? has this ever been cleaned?!?!?!?!?! (Explains my and my wife's asthma flare up) Check out was just as bad, won't bother going back. We were on the 3rd floor, there is a tiny deck with two rock hard chairs, really they need to put in a divider so you don't look in the neighbors room. Honestly wonder how much water from the AC unit is dripping to rooms below us and if they have black mold from it. read more

Y'all I don't want to leave. I don't wanna leave y'all. I don't even like Charleston that much if you ask me the food is unseasoned. But I might come back just to stay in this hotel. They give you champagne in the afternoon and milk and cookies at night. They bring the breakfast to your room at the ordained time and the little man at the front desk was really nice and the other little gurl working at the desk was nice I forgot their names. They need to get that elevator fixed though child cause that thing take like 50 million hours just to get to the first floor that elevator had my auntie waiting out there so long for that elevator her wig almost dried out and fell in the Pacific Ocean tryna wait for that elevator to come. read more

My wife and I stayed here for four nights recently and loved it. The location was outstanding. You can walk to most places including King Street, all the restaurants, Rainbow Row, historic homes, City Market, and waterfront park is just out the back door. I would suggest putting aside your membership points with the chain hotels and staying here. The entire staff was overwhelmingly friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and full of recommendations, if asked. From the bellhop, front desk staff, and housekeeping, everyone always greeted us with a smile. We took advantage of the complimentary wine and cheese hour each evening as well as the cookies and milk each night. The cookies were fresh and tasty. There was a 24/7 coffee, tea, and hot chocolate bar if you wanted it. Did I mention the free candy dispensers and infused water bar in the front by the gas fireplace? Our room was big and everything worked to perfection. Our housekeeping attendant was tremendous. Friendly, warm, and willing to go out of her way for you. We even met the nice attendant who turned down our bed each night. She left chocolates and romantic music on the radio. Our one disappointment was breakfast. We had our complimentary breakfast sent to our room each morning. Room service staff was great and it was always delivered on time as promised. However, it's a continental breakfast and we expected something more based upon the luxury and price of the Inn. Coffee was very good. The inside of the Inn was decorated beautifully for Christmas and spotless. Very charming look. Is this Inn expensive? Yes. It was worth every penny. It's a block off one of the main drags and in a quieter area than many of hotels we saw. We'll be back! read more

The time at the HarbourView inn was very pleasant. The room was the perfect size for the both of us. We stayed in the park side king room. There was a small balcony that we shared wine on while people watching and enjoying the sunset. There is a lot of construction going on in front of the hotel but we were aware of it and it did not bother me. The Inn also provides breakfast every morning. It blew away my expectations. The coffee was good. We enjoyed some pastries (warm blueberry muffin, ham and cheese croissant) cereal, boiled eggs and yogurt parfait. Everything was good. One could have it delivered to your from, in the atrium or in the roof deck. We also enjoyed the cocktail hour every night and warm cookies (they are freshly baked each night) nightly. I like everything about this hotel from the location next to Charleston Waterfront Park to the wide open space with natural light throughout the hotel, to the views from the room, and the overall relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. I really the rooftop balcony terrace lounge area as it has plenty of space to lay back and take in one of the best views in Charleston of the park, river, bridge, and the rest of Charleston. The perfect spot to stay when you're in Charleston! I was in town recently for a girls weekend and can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. From the time I made our reservations by phone to our check out, we had an extremely positive experience. The hotel is in prime location literally across the street from Charleston Waterfront Park and minutes from the Water Taxi. Everything is within walking distance so there is no need to rent a car or drive. We had a room with 2 comfy queen beds which were comparable to what you'd see in a Westin or W. The room was very spacious as well as the bathroom. There was also wait staff that would come to our room every day to do "turn down service" which I am not used to and seemed a little funny to me. The coolest part was the complimentary breakfast that was delivered to our room. We had to fill out a breakfast card of what we would like to eat and hang it on our doorknob the night before with our desired breakfast delivery time. Like clockwork, our meals were delivered to our room. Make sure to tip! They also offer complimentary cookies and milk from 9p-10p every night as well as complimentary fruit, coffee and tea downstairs in the lobby. We were out late a few nights and for security measures, you need your hotel card to even enter the hotel which I liked. Don't think I will stay anywhere else the next time I am in town. This place is one that I would highly recommend. It is a little pricey but is worth the cost when it comes to the perks and location. read more

This was the most expensive hotel in my life so far, so both me and my wife had very high expectations. Unfortunately, it was mostly a disappointment. First of all, from the description on website and pictures online we've decided that it is a hotel in a historic house, something like Fort Conde Inn in Mobile or Planters Inn in Savannah. Well, maybe it was, but nothing reminds about it. From inside, it is just a hotel with good interior. Not very posh, and definitely not authentic. I wouldn't even call it a boutique hotel. The room itself had furniture that pretends to be antique, but it is a clear fake. Doors of an antique wardrobe can't have hinges like a cheap kitchen cabinets. And metal-framed windows destroy the scraps of historic look completely (yes, they are soundproof). While our room was on the waterfront side, we couldn't see it because of the huge trees in the park that pretty much close it completely. Our unfulfilled expectations wouldn't be a problem by itself if everything else was perfect, but we had a whole pack of real issues: - Loud air conditioner. I have an A/C outdoor unit next to my bedroom, so I thought I got used to that kind of noise. But this dribble woke me up 3 times during first night. Next night I've figured out that if I close the door to the bathroom, it becomes quieter. - Sewer in the bath couldn't handle incoming water and since it is U.S. hotel, yes, you can't control it. As a result, you have to take shower standing ankle deep in your own dirty water. - USB charger can't handle 2 iPhones and started switching power between them. One can easily burn his device. - Breakfast in the room sounds like a cool feature, but there is no dining table in the room. And if you want to have breakfast in one of the common areas, you have to choose time and meal upfront. - Slow internet. Speedtest.net has shown 12 MBits. - Unsecured valet parking. The last two issues aren't that serious, but with the hotel prices it can easily cost a star. But sewer and A/C issues are simply unacceptable. With all the additional good things this hotel has, they can't compensate the lack of simple comfort. read more

My girlfriend and I were heading to Charleston from Savannah right after all the flooding from hurricane Joaquin, we were debating on if we would make the drive because of all the road closures.. We arrived downtown without a place to stay, so we drove around looking for nice parts of town, since neither of us had even been to Charleston.. We were down by the water and came across the harborview inn. The hotel was classy looking and appeared to be super expensive, we were sure it was out of our budget. After googling some amazing reviews we figured we would call, just for the heck of it.. We spoke to a very nice gentleman named MIKE.. We asked if they had a room available, and they said they did. The price was less then expected, but still out of our price range.. After explaining to him our situation and price range he put us on hold and came back with a rate we felt we couldn't refuse.. Wow are we glad we did.. After entering the lobby we knew we made a good call. We introduced ourselves to MIKE and gave him all our info for check-in. MIKE said that our room wouldn't be ready for awhile, but maybe he could find a room that was ready. Well he upgraded is to this amazing room that blew is away.. Can't say enough about Mike and Jack.. Jack is the bellhop and valet.. Thanks guys for making our stay amazing !! read more
