I was visiting a friend and this location was near their condo in the neighbourhood. We had finished dinner in scarborough around 8pm and basically rushed it to midtown before they closed at 9pm. We called around 8:25-ish and the lady told us we were basically the last call as they'd have to end up closing around 9:15. We appreciated this a lot. When we arrived it was around 8:50pm. The ladies who made our pancakes had a couple of them ready for us to eat when we arrived. We were able to sit down and enjoy them without having to grab and go which was awesome. The shop ended up staying open past their closing time to accommodate us so we were very grateful. As a group we ordered 5 soufflé pancakes (so we could try a bunch of different flavours. As far as the food goes, the pancakes were good but not great. Some were obviously better than others. Fuwa fuwa signature: This is their soufflé pancakes with some cream and fresh fruit added on the side. It was probably the most plain out of the bunch. Nothing unique. Would not order again on a return visit. Cookies & cream: This one was quite good! The oreo whip plus the ice cream created a pretty fantastic bite with the pancake and the cookie crumble sensation was really apparent throughout. Blueberry cheese: This one was amazing. The blueberry compote was super savoury and rich, so when paired w/ the sweet ice cream, it created a really dynamic contrast. I would say this one is a must try. Raspberry caramelized banana: Tbh, this one sounded the most promising but it was just ok. The bananas were bruleed extremely well but the rest of the dish was too similar to the fuwa fuwa signature. Tiramisu: Sleeper hit. The tiramisu was super light and the pancake was light as well which made it feel like you were eating a cloud. The cocoa powder is also very strong and the chocolate dip provided makes the dish so scrumptious. Would order again. Idk if they make homemade ice cream or not, but the pancake dishes that included ice cream tasted better to me than the pancake dishes with no ice cream. Perhaps I just like the hot and cold contrast a lot so it's a personal thing. Would definitely come back if I'm in the neighbourhood to visit my friends again. But next time, I'll be trying different flavours (the crème brûlée sounds appealing). read more

Came with my Groupon wasn't able to book and make reservations for the midtown store so I called the downtown location to make the reservation. Came to to pick up my afternoon tea set and they told me reservation required and they don't have any orders.. I showed them the text the downtown location advised and then they started prepping. For context, we went to this location during Covid lock down and had to take this to go. The drive home was like 40 mins and by the time we tried it - it wasn't naturally as good as it would be eating there. Dessert - we got the Matcha white chocolate pancake. Plus the Yelp check-in complimentary ice cream Taste - the pancake tasted really regular. It wasn't as airy as we remembered. The matcha was a nice bittersweet taste..good but nothing mind-blowing. The complimentary ice cream was meh...it tasted like those ice cream you get at the buffet but with a tad bit freezer burn. Overall - it was alright. Tip for anyone planning to come here is to try to eat on site..or ASAP. It definitely didn't taste as good after waiting 1 hr to eat. I heard there was a Japanese pancake place and after having them for the first time in Hawaii (and later Japan), I've been craving them ever since and needed to get my fix! It was pretty busy when we came in but luckily we were able to grab a seat. The service was nice and quick and when we came they had an active yelp check-in offer for ice cream on top! :D We settled on choosing the blueberries cheese pancake. Aesthetically, the pancake looked super yum. The texture of the pancake lived up to the fluffy soufflé texture of Japanese pancakes. The sauce was good but the taste that was supposed to be the highlight, the pancake itself, ended up turning me off from the dish. I'm not sure if it was a bad batch but our pancake ended up really eggy tasting which wasn't my cup of tea. :/ Their water station could do with a check in now and then too. When I was about to drink from my cup I noticed all these little dirty floaty bits at the top - gag. :x I'm not sure if this was from the cup or the water station but it's on me to check carefully next time. Thank goodness I didn't drink from it... These various factors lead to me giving fuwa fuwa a 2.5 stars. But I am rounding to a 3 based on the good service we received despite the unpleasant food encounter. I did not enjoy the egg taste, but based on other reviews, maybe I was unlucky that day. Price wise, I think it rivals BBT shops and is on the pricey side especially considering the cup size is small. 3. Lobster Roll - Very small portion of lobster/imitation crab. I would say its 2 spoonfuls of filling in a large, VERY dense bun. It reminded me of squished bread except it wasn't squished. The ratio of filling to bread was bad. The place is relatively small and dated but still in good condition overall. A small water serving station is there as well. The signature pancakes 4/5 - fluffy pancakes, good amount of lift overall - subtle sweetness but not heavy or overly sweet, paired nicely with the condiments - cream on top was light and smooth, very worthy of instagram - topped with fruits including bananas and berries, a classic Blueberry Cheese pancakes 4/5 - these pancakes seem to be fluffier and had a better lift and aeration, unsure if it was just because these were made better or due to how they were composed - subtle sweetness to the pancakes as before - blueberry sauce is on the sweeter side but still had the flavours of blueberry - use of real blueberries in the sauce as well, good consistency - really appreciated the bruleed lemons as i really liked the sour notes to cut down the sweetness - not much cheese flavour to be honest, which reduced the points Drink wise, I ordered the matcha espresso with no sugar. I finally had the chance to dine in for their pancakes this past weekend! They had a row of approximately 8 tables for 2s for dine in. We arrived just after noon on the weekend with a party already sat down waiting for their orders and two girls working behind the counter. We placed our order, showed our proof of vaccination and ID and took a seat. While waiting, we saw many people picking up orders for delivery. I guess fluffy Japanese pancakes is the perfect start to the weekend! Our pancakes got to our table under the 45 minutes time we were quoted. We got ours in half an hour which was great! I ordered the Raspberry and Caramelized Banana Pancake while my friend ordered the Raspberry Chocolate Lava Pancake. Our orders was quite similar except my friend's came with the chocolate and raspberry sauce on the side while mine was on my pancake already. The raspberry sauce gave it a tart flavour which I really enjoyed! We both got the carmelized bananas and we absolutely loved it! We got 2 nice and fluffy pancakes each, but it wasn't jiggly like the ones we usually see. It's hard to pick a favourite because it depends on my mood. So they opened a fuwa fuwa mid town. I'd never visited before but this midtown location is way more convenient! Definitely coming back! Location: Yonge North of Eglinton. Near Keils!! Parking: Lots of green P on street parking and it's a cross the street from a giant green p lot. Store: It's small but nice. Great place. You order at the counter, they give you a thing with a number on it and when your order is ready they bring it to your table and take the number thing away. Food: They got those jiggly big pancakes and coffee, and lattes! Yum yum yum So apparently the menu here is different than the location down. This is my first time trying Fuwa Fuwa and I would say it's pretty good. My boyfriend and I went on a cold weekday evening and did not have to wait for a table. I ordered the matcha white chocolate pancake and my boyfriend ordered the raspberry chocolate lava pancake. The presentation of both dishes were stunning! I was worried that the matcha white chocolate sauce would be very sweet, but when poured over the mild tasting (border line bland tasting) pancakes, the sweetness was just right. The pancakes were extremely light and fluffy, but to my disappointment they were not jiggly. I had souffle pancakes in Hong Kong and they were able to fulfill all 3 criteria. After checking in on Yelp, Fuwa Fuwa gave me a scoop of free ice cream. I opted for green tea flavour and it went very with the pancakes! I tried my boyfriend's pancake and personally, I'm not a fan of the raspberry sauce. It tasted quite artificial. Furthermore, the chocolate interior was not as molten as we expected. I think they just melted the chocolate, instead of mixing melted chocolate with cream to produce a viscous flow. The caramelized banana was an interesting accompaniment to the pancakes. I'm super late in the game to try out the fluffy fluffy pancakes in Toronto, but yay I've finally made my way midtown to try them out. The place is simple with a brightly lit and spacious place. You order at the counter and they give you a number and they will bring out the food to you. Between the plus one and I, we got the strawberry chocolate, matcha white chocolate, black tea latte, and matcha latte. I haven't been to the downtown location but I heard this location specializes in incorporating chocolate into their dish. It was very soft and eggy tasting but not as giggly as I was hoping. The matcha was good, but I think the star was the strawberry sauce because it was made from real fruit! It blended really nicely with the pancakes. I would have liked it more if it came with more fruits though! On the other hand, we were both not a fan of their lattes. My plus one thought the black tea tasted watered down and my matcha latte was not sweet at all. I was very tempted to ask them for some sugar. We were also not told that we can get the drinks cold until we overheard one of the employees telling other people that the drinks were available hot and cold. We were given with forks to eat because the pancake was too soft to be sliced. First bite into the soufflé pancake and I was overwhelmed with the soft, airy, soufflé cake that just seemed to elevate all of my tastebuds! The taste is good/okay but definitely not worth the price of an entree. On their website, they had a spin the code to win a discount, but when I checked out with the discount code, it was there until accepting payment, the discount disappeared. Asked their customer service about it and they did nothing to fix this error on their website. The take out is definitely not worth $15-18 a pancake...should be more like $8-10. read more

I've been wanting to try Fuwa fuwa pancakes because of all the hype and love they have been getting from social media, but I have to say my experience did not match my expectations. I walked in and was happy to see the restaurant was well-lit - I love the simple and cute interior of the shop. You have to order and pay up-front before taking a seat. We decided to get the raspberry lava pancakes, and the nutella pancakes. I wanted to get ice-cream with mine, but the employee recommended that we get the mochis instead, emphasizing that it's delicious and fresh, came straight from japan. So I decided to try it! To my surprise however, I saw them pull the mochis out of the same mochi packaging that we get from the grocery store.. The Lotte one I think? Anyways it was good but I was expecting like fresh authentic ones? The actual pancakes were okay, tasted exactly like how you would expect fluffy pancakes to taste like. Idk if they're worth $15 though. But yeah overall I was happy I got to try it, but I don't know if I'll come back. read more
