Our family loves the A&W red sauce and root beer, nothing better! We think $4 per hot dog is excessive.

Only A&W I know that isn't attached to a gas station. Food is regular A&W fast food options, but it has a Coney Island vibe. Flushing down town staple. Dont recall the ranch being very good though- maybe they've improved since the last time. But if you're a small family owned "Coney Island" type business and you have bottled ranch- not a good look. This is Michigan, us mid westerners need a good ranch for deep fried food. Service was great though. read more

Tonight service from Rikayla was very sad. We order 2 three piece chicken tenders but charged and gave us 2 five piece chicken tenders. Then we ask for forks and give us ranch. Which okay no big deal about the forks. But Never once came out to see how we were but to give the check and say "I'm about to start cleaning the bathrooms if you need anything let the other server know" and when my husband went to ask her for a refill she walked away so fast you couldn't get a word in. Then we can see the reflection in the window and she's gossiping with the other servers , not do anything she said she was going to. We went to check out and she counting change for her "manager" she claimed. And after my husband asked what her deal was tonight and why she wasn't cleaning the bathrooms she came up with excuses and arguing then claiming she was the manger. This is the second time we have had her and she up charge our meal and not give us what we asked for. She started getting loud and obnoxious clapping her hands at us. Very sad service. Used to love coming here but the service is very poor lately. read more

This place is still good and holds a place in my heart. I went to elementary school in Flushing and this was the place to go after school. I will say the quality and quantity has gone down a bit, but it's still worth it to me. Maybe it's the memories I have here... I will say the chocolate malts are amazing. Outstanding quick dining on a budget. The hot dogs are real (Koegels) with multiple delicious ways to top them. The staff are always happy to see you and are helpful with special requests. We have always eaten in the dining room but since this is an "old school" drive-in carhops can bring your food out for in car dining. The "A" is definitely a favorite in Flushing. read more

I want to gather a bit of my thoughts real quick and see what I can come up with... . . . I would really like to love you, but for some reason,, I just feel like everybody in this shop was just going through the motions. Like a place where everything is simulated and the employees have lost the will to fight on. Reason for which is that when I walked in to get my order,,, there was no, "HI!!! HELLO!!! Welcome!!! Can I take your order?" Instead, I get the blank stare from a middle aged lady that didn't even smile none. Like she was just waiting for me to start barking my order. So I did, she told me how much I owed, I gave her my card, she swiped,,, the reciept printed out, she gave it to me with my card and... that's that... I uh,, what do I do now??? It's my first time,,, no instructions whatsoever,,, like,, "We'll call your name out when your order is ready." type of instructions,,,, Nope, lady just turns around like I was just an afterthought. With that happening, I was totally confused on what to do... Do I wait inside until my order is ready, or do I wait for them to bring it to me to the picnic tables where my friends are??? So I go outside and I wait for signs of my order... I see a tray with food and a guy looking my way now. He nods,, I nod,, I walk in I grab the food. No, "Here you go sir, enjoy your meal." I've been going here with my family for years. Even when they were a different name, the food was always really good. Especially the red sauce. However, recently, I stopped to pick up some hotdogs and a couple of root beer floats. First of all it was expensive. Secondly, my mom and her friend were super excited to have this again, until there was hardly any red sauce on any of the hotdogs, they forgot the cheese on two of them add the onions on two of them, and all of the buns were completely stale. I'm very disappointed too. I wanted them to have a taste of something really good. I won't recommend this place because they obviously knew what they were serving and it was 10 AM when they open everything should be fresh, not to mention made correctly. wasn't anybody else for them to serve. read more

Nothing like some good ol down home cooking. This place never disappoints food is delicious, staff is extremely friendly. Take you pick of old fashion drive in dining or venture inside and grab a table. If your in the area don't hesitate to stop in and grab some amazing food. Five stars? Other reviewers must have been rating for sentimental reasons. I would never go back to this restaurant--there is just no reason to. Flushing has lots of good restaurants where you will get better service and better food. I had the hot dog with "famous red sauce" which tastes like ketchup cooked with onions. I had to scrape it off my hot dogs to be able to eat them. My dining companion had the coneys and while the chili tasted pretty good, it was really more like loose burger on top of the hot dog than chili. The frosted mugs that others mentioned? Didn't come with our root beer, which wan't even cold. No refills were offered either, even though the mug cost close to $2. All in all it was an experience I don't need to repeat. If you're in Flushing, go to Kathy's or Sorrento's or even Homeboy BBQ or any of a number of places. Other than the quaintness of Flushing A being an old-fashioned drive in, there's just no reason to eat here. read more

With all the coney places in the area, I am surprised to see this place get the high reviews that it does. We ordered a large order of coneys, fries, and onion rings from the A recently. The fried and rings were standard from a bag and came out greasy and limp (and this was before they even got home). The flint style coney was good but not the greatest. They offer a special red sauce version that everyone said was good but it definitely tasted like marinara on a hot dog. It wasn't special beyond its ability to make me not want to eat it. All and all, I think this place was better when it was an A&W but that isn't saying much. read more

Been here a few times now that I live in the area. It is an average burger place. I would agree with other posts that service is good some nights but not so much others. Food usually done in a good amount of time, never had to wait very long. Food is good in my opinion, doesn't knock my socks off or make me crave going back but whenever I just want a quick burger that is better than McDonalds I chose the Flushing A. Overall I would get a burger here anytime you need a quick bite but would chose to get it to go and take it home. read more

Horrible service. Our waitress was Emma. I understood that it's Summerfest and they are busy but I watched literally EVERY PERSON who walked in after I did get served before we did. About 5 minutes after watching the 4 tables get served, our food came out. I'm so pissed that I took the time to write this before I ate the subpar and over priced food. I have been coming here since I was a kid when flushing A was known as A&W! I use to like this place because they were one of the restaurants that continued to use the old school recipe like the red sauce on their hot dog and cold draft root beer in a mug! I will say I'm only giving 2 stars because the hot dog even though was cold tastes the same! Everything else will ensure that this once go to place will never happen again and that's sad after 46 years! I was with my 5 year old grandson and the first thing i heard from my waitress was "I have a migraine and omg I don't want to be here"! Great so can I get a hot dog chicken and two root beers! She walks away and brings to go pop and food was cold! Asked her if we could have root beer in mug and she took it from the to go cup and poured in mug which wasn't the point! She also spilled it all over my grandsons picture he was trying to color while waiting for the cold food! Found this gem while heading up north. We were driving up 75 and had a hankering for a good Flint coney dog and we already passed Flint. I decided to use my handy Yelp tool and we strayed off the hwy a few miles (a bit further than anticipated) to hunt down a good hot dog. We finally arrived at the location and there was a oldie car show going on and it was super busy. It was a cool looking old style place like you see with the car hops. They have a diner type restaurant that you can eat at and also a walk up 'to go' order spot for carryouts...which is awesome and very convenient! We ordered two coneys and a small fry and got our food nice and quick. I devoured my hot dog because it was super awesome and more than hit the spot!! The fries were also very good, nice & crispy and tasted really fresh! I would definitely go out of my way to get to this place again!! A+++ read more

Took An Half an Hour to get our food. We asked for our fish to be crispy but it was soggy. Also the root beer had no fizz in it. The prices were ok the dumb waiter gave us 2 cheese curds that we did not even order we only ordered 1 of them and we where charged for both of them. The food is below average, and they were once an A&W, but no longer are. Two things changed: the price and the name. They no longer run any specials or accept coupons AND the prices went up. They say the reason they left A&W is because they wouldn't sell their sauce recipe but don't believe them. You hear a different story every time. I don't reccomend it. For the same price (or less) you can go to Kathy's on the same corner, and get much better service and food. read more

I prefer the plain hot dog, with red sauce, I have to clear these other reviews up.... its not ketchup cooked with onions, and its not marinara sauce either, those reviewers obviously don't know their sauces. Also The red sauce has not changed since it was an A&W so how they can think it was better as an A&W I have no idea, their food is exactly the same as before! Look you either like a sauce or you don't, but that does not make it a bad sauce, to each their own. I get free refills every time I go (which started after they became Flushing A and not A&W), and you also get a free 1/2 gallon for ordering 6 hot dogs to go. When I lived out of state, this was one of the first places I would go after coming back. Their chili is their flint style coney sauce, on their chili cheese fries, so its meat and not western chili. I have never gotten bad service here, and they are always very friendly. read more

Used to be A&W. They broke away from A&W, renamed it to the Flushing A, and raised the price. The menu and food they serve is the same just a lot more expensive and they don't participate in sales or coupons. Food is not that good either. Burgers are obviously frozen patties. I purchased a quart of their coney sauce to use at home, it was the worst thing ever. When I warmed it up it had more than 1 1/4 cups of grease in it. I paid over $12.50 for this. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. If I could give it zero stars I would. I hope their service at the restaurant is better but I will never go there again to find out. read more
