Came here again tonight 2/22/25. Bartender was super nice and helpful. Bathrooms could use some sprucing up, the flusher happened to be broken in one of them. Otherwise, a very cute and comfortable spot to hang out for a drink and some light bites. Haven't tried the food myself but would definitely come back. Love the velvet decor and dim lighting. The bartender was a bit slow but he had a handful of customers to serve and was bartending by himself, it seemed. The pomegranate margarita was good albeit slightly overpriced, and a 22% gratuity is automatically added in, even for a party of 1. I'd totally go back here. Came here after staying at the Dream Hotel which is around the corner. The ambiance, the low lighting and bar gave speakeasy. My friend and I got a few rounds of drinks. There is really no place quite like Flute. It used to be an actual speakeasy back in the 1920's called Club In Time and is one of 3 lounges that still operate as a lounge from that time still 100 years later in NYC! It's in the basement level, and as you might guess from it's name it's a champagne bar, with various flight offerings in addition to bottles and glasses and champagne inspired cocktails, which are delicious! My favorite is the champagne mojito, which is served in a large glass! They also have some light boîtes and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. They have jazz night on Wednesdays and DJ's sometimes. I have been coming here for several years now and it's one of my favorite places in all of NYC! If you haven't been, it's a must, and if you've been, don't forget to revisit it! ;) PS. They also did some nice renovations recently, too! read more

Came here for a work event. I love the low-lit, small/side seating atmosphere. We had booked a Resy but it looked like they had plenty of spots open on a Thursday night but this is in a tourist-y area so you never know. If you're a big lover of champagne than this is a fun place to come. They offer champagne flights which are a pretty good deal in order to taste a few different selections. Everyone on my team enjoyed our drinks but the service could definitely be an area of improvement. Multiple times when we wanted to order more we had to crane our necks trying to make eye contact. Not sure if they were just trying to give us space to talk but i definitely wish they had touched our table more during our visit. Overall a nice experience and I would come again. I have dropped by Flute often, on Wednesday nights in particular when the Susan Tobocman Trio is performing. Everything I have ever ordered has been delicious and promptly served. I have found the wait staff and the bartenders to be cheerful, helpful and efficient. I recommend the ambience, menu and service highly. My wife and I went to Flute on a recent trip to New York. We had been there a couple of times in the past, but it had been several years. I'm happy to report. It was just as wonderful an experience as we remembered. We visit and go out a lot in New York and have a pretty high bar for where we spend our evenings. Flute continues to be unique. The ambience is elegant, romantic and cozy without being stuffy. I've had some well-made cocktails there in the past, but this time we stuck with champagne, which is a personal favorite. The list by the bottle and by the glass is the most extensive I have seen, certainly in the US. And the waitstaff know how to serve it properly, which makes it that much more special. Our waitstaff was knowledgeable about the champagne list. The place had a good buzz, and the music was great. The crowd was of mixed ages. It's a great place to be around of a lot of activity, but at the same time being able to have a conversation without having to yell. If you are in New York and part of a couple or a small group, this is a great place to go before dinner or afterwards for a nightcap. read more

What a great speakeasy bar, perfect for intimate dates. The service by the bartenders (they don't have servers all the staff are bartenders on the floor and behind bar) are phenomenal and well versed. Went here with some friends last night and ordered a bottle of sparkling rose...which was lukewarm when they poured it for us. We told the server, and he got us another bottle that he tried to chill on ice, but you can't chill a bottle of sparkling that way if you don't want to wait an hour for it to be properly chilled. Not sure why a champagne bar wouldn't have its bottles already in a refrigerator chilling, but the server should have immediately known not to serve us that bottle and suggested a different bottle in our price point instead. This was the craziest part -- when I went up to the bar and asked what bottles they had currently chilling in the refrigerator, the bartender literally said to me, "It depends on how much you want to spend." I wanted to say, "Actually, if it's on your menu, it should be ready to be served to a customer." It was clear that because we weren't spending $200 on a bottle, they didn't care about us or our experience. Really bad service. Won't be going back. read more

Its been really lovely to see that the Flute has been going strong for the last two years! I have missed this spot as a regular! It's good to be back and see some familiar faces. The owner's attention to detail and love of the era has never been lost on me. They updated the space and have a really fun outdoor seating area. Drinks are wonderful! Jazz night is always my favorite here but something fun seems be happening here always :) It is one of those spots you come to and can meet some pretty great people passing through the city. My friends and I have been coming to Flute for years. My favorite speakeasy in midtown (honestly, anywhere in the city), tons of history and what a vibe. Head downstairs and you're suddenly in another world! Art deco decor, red velvet banquettes, amazing art, plus all these cute little cozy cubbies. There's also great live music, a super friendly attentive staff, not to mention a huge champagne as well as reasonably priced cocktail selection. After finding this place on yelp, hubby and I decided to visit this place since we are big champagne fans. We made reservations and were seated promptly. This place has a very cozy and intimate feeling, with good background music. There is a good selection of champagnes and sparkling wines. Service was a little slow compared to how busy the place was. But since we were not in a hurry, and were enjoying our glasses of champagne, it didn't really bother us. The reason for the one star is the after service. Our server, Greg, handled the check like a real douchebag. After we closed out the bill, he had the audacity to come back and ask why we had left such a low amount of tip. I had explained that we usually leave a tip percentage based on the total amount before taxes. But he seemed unsatisfied with this answer, and felt entitled to a higher amount when the majority of the time he was hanging out talking to his friends. What made things even worse, was when I went back and asked him for our receipt back so that I could change the amount of tip. He then had the nerve to say "so you can write $0 on the tip line?". Like wtf dude. No, that wasn't exactly what I had planned to do, but that answer made me cross out the original amount and write in a big fat ZERO!!! I'm sorry Greg that your life seems to suck so much that you feel the need to go and haggle the clients to give you more money. That you also feel entitled to a large amount of tip based on your job to have the bartender pour the champagne, and you walk 10 feet to deliver it to us. But good luck moving forward with your life with that attitude. If you decide to visit this place, I would avoid Greg like the plague. I have zero plans to ever return to this place. . read more

We experienced incredibly horrible service here. It started off trying to make a reservation. My friend filled in the online form and sent it in. The site says "we will confirm your reservation by phone or email" we did not receive confirmation. So my friend reached out a few times in order to make sure we had a confirmed spot. She finally reached someone and they said we were fine. When we arrived it appeared there was a large party in the bar area. No one greeted us at the door to show us to our table for about 5 min. I've worked in the service industry, I know it can get busy, so it didn't bother us much. After 2 of us sat down, we were waiting for some of our friends. After about 45 min after most of us had arrived - this was the first time our server stopped by to take our drink order. 45 min??? When it was 2 of us it was fine we just chatted. Then we greeted our third friend and waited some more. Our server came at the same time as our other friend and then proceeded to leave before talking to any of us. I'm not sure I've ever been somewhere before and waited this long to order. Again we were having an okay time chatting so it wasn't a huge deal. On some positive notes: The happy hour special was buy 2 for 1. It was a pretty good deal that we were all happy about. Our space in the back corner was super cute. We wanted to order some food bites and the server told us that the kitchen was about to open (it hadn't been before due to the party I think?). I put in a food order. The server came back about 5 min later to tell me that was the one thing they weren't serving that day. Okay. No food. Then the time came to pay. As soon as our server put down our credit cards with the receipts, he started searching around for the cards - indicating he thought one had gone missing. We all searched through everything. Couldn't find it. He went back to the bar to look, cane back with a phone/flashlight. We proceeded to look for about 13 min all over the floor of the restaurant and through our things for the missing card. We were starting to get worried. Finally the server came back with it - apparently it had fallen into the ice bin (it was cold, so we believe this to be true). He really did try to find it for the whole time. We all had paid already and were ready to go, but my one friend was frustrated that he had been inconvenienced by the credit card debacle. She went to seek out the manager and politely asked if they wouldn't mind giving us a gift card for our trouble - specifically for loosing the card. The response of the manager was what we could not get past. 1st he argued with us over how long it was missing. My friend said it was about 15 min and he was like there was no way it was that long. 2nd he pretty much didn't care that we had had a bad experience and wasn't willing to do anything to make it right. If you want 2 for 1 wine, come. But be weary. You may have to wait an extremely long time to order, they may not be able to make the food they request, and they may lose your credit card! Pros: cute space. We didn't have to cancel our credit card. Cons: service in general. Management don't care how the patrons are treated. Long wait - for everything! Come at your own risk! read more
