Cute speakeasy in Chelsea with some wild wallpaper, both in the main room and in the bathroom (remember to look at the wall for surprises!!). The vibe was nice and cozy, service was friendly, and drinks were delicious. We had a reservation and was seated immediately.

This is still one of my top go-to places for cocktails in the city. And the vibe-- it's to die for!!

This place is very New York and I absolutely loved it. Great intimate environment. The rooms are beautiful and classy. Drinks were delicious. Servers were very attentive.

Great place to get a drink and an intimate conversation. Their drinks are well served and they offer a creative menu, our favorite cocktail was called full of gold. small bites are also available but we didn't try them in this occasion. We came in with no reservation last Saturday night and the hostess was a lovely person who was able to accommodate us within just a couple of minutes, first at the bar and about 30 minutes later we were assigned a table. It was our first time in this bar and I will be encouraging people to try it as it was totally worth it. I would suggest is best to make a reservation in advance because it gets busy.

Absolutely love this place, definitely still has that speakeasy vibe. The drinks are top notch. You can tell the bartenders really know what they're doing. I've never had a bad cocktail here. It's also super chill, great music, comfortable seating. Music is not too loud so you can still have a decent conversation with your friends. Definitely recommend.

We were in town on a Mother/Daughter trip and wanted to go to a Speakeasy. Our first experience did not disappoint. The charming discreet entrance was exactly what we hoped for. Inside was a dark & intimate setting with couches and tables. We enjoyed the outdoor patio. The blankets were a nice touch. The drinks were well executed and delicious. Definitely would say this is a classy place that was a highlight of our NYC experience.

I loved this speakeasy cocktail spot. I've been to so many places and rarely do I walk out thinking that the drinks are worth it. Raines drinks were definitely worth it. I also loved how nicely decorated the patio area was. It's so different than the inside - brightly lit and airy. They also give you blankets when you sit out there so you won't be cold. Service was fast and they checked in on us quite often. I love the concept of ringing a doorbell to get in. Inside it feels very dark and intimate, a perfect spot for a romantic date night. The patio area feels like a spot for friends to grab drinks.

this location is a bit different than their uptown location, it's more low key and simple. we didnt have reservation but it was easy to walk in without too long of the wait, i was told a 30mins wait but was able to get in in 15mins. There's a large selection of cocktail that looks very interesting, i tried two different cocktails but still didnt find the perfect one for me. Our service was odd, there are multiple waiters, I was not sure which one actually was our waiter and was hard to get their attention, feel like they are also kinda rushing us.

    Drink Receipt "La Ristra"

The drinks are outstanding, the service is excellent. Thanks to the Bartender who prepare La Ristra, this was of the best drink ever.

The lounge is so comfy and intimate. All the drinks were so tasty and interesting. Some of my favorite was the peanut butter whisky one and lychee. If you can get a res, must visit.

    "sweater weather" bourbon cocktail

Very elegant speak easy experience. The cocktails are like works of art and are so tasty. The servers were helpful and attentive. Loved the vibe here and will definitely return.

Not cheap, but worth coming back (for like a fourth time!) to try to get in. Lovely staff and a very good cocktail in a very cool setting.

Ask the Community - Raines Law Room

    Can you smoke cigars there?

No, unfortunately we are a non smoking facility.

    Do they play music?

Music was on but low if memory serves me right. There wasn’t live music when we were there and I’m not sure where the person would have room to perform. This is very a intimate, upscale, and our favorite speakeasy in NYC.

Do you have to be fully vaccinated?

They didn't ask or check for vaccination cards when I was there in November 2022

Is the outdoor garden area heated?

The garden patio is heated by propane and our sidewalk patio is heated by inferred heaters.

Are they hosting the 60s themed tiki pop-up at this location or at The William location?

Is this place good for music and dancing?

It's more of a sit down with a classy ambiance. There's no dancing.

How do make a reservation from Yelp? I don't even see a phone number listed anywhere.?

I did it through their website which uses Resy. Very easy. You can do it up to 2 weeks out. Definitely recommend a reservation to get in.

    Do I need a reservation?

Thursday -Sunday evenings, I would say yes. But on any other day, no. I went in on a Thursday around 5:30pm and was seated immediately.

How would this place be for a solo woman over 40?

You don't have to be seated on the lounge couches. You can request to stay by the bar with the bartender and groups waiting for seating. You can people watch, enjoy cocktails, and make conversation with the people there!

Is this place good for large groups?

No, but it's great for an intimate group of 4-6. It gets packed, so try to get on the list early and be prepared to wait.

What is the weekly schedule for live music?

    No live music here

Is this place good for dancing?

    no

Where do I book a reservation? Don't see a place on yelp. I try to book on the Raines site hitting the "Reserve" box and it redirects to yelp.com where there is nowhere to…

You may make a reservation on their website. Reservations are only accepted on Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday.

Can anyone tell me if there is a dress code, ie no hats (not referring to baseball hat), is casual ok?

Doesn't appear to be a dress code. I'm in jeans and a hoodie.

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.

I could see how this might be a little harder to get a seat for a bigger group if you aren't there before 6. It seemed that once a group got a big table, they camped out. The drinks were strong and creative. Friendly bartenders, good music, and yummy options for bar snacks. Also, the bathroom is a nice touch. Given the hell theming for the bar, the bathroom is a 180 and while using the Lou, you can listen to the bible being recited. Theres also a spooky surprise if you press the button in the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it is at the bottom of some decently narrow stairs. So, try and stay sober enough for stairs or you may fall. Go to this bar. You will have fun.

We wanted to have after-dinner cocktails in a chill space, so we searched on our phones & saw Paradise Lost address via Google. We proceeded to walk down & was unable to find the establishment due to their being no front sign. After walking back & forth a few times, we saw another group walking towards the door & they confirmed the place. We walked inside the front door pressed a "doorbell" & lo & behold we gained entry after the previous group went inside. Definitely an incognito entrance. Once inside that door there is someone to greet you, & take your information. There is a forest/ grass/ jungle-looking foyer/ hallway we walked down to get to the next door. Before we knew it, we were near the "Paradise Lost No Vacancy" neon sign w/ an arrow pointing towards the snake-shaped knob door. It gets opened & a supercool speakeasy awaits.... Paradise Lost has mixed style table / seating arrangements throughout the place. A bar seating section, booth-style seating area, lounge- style seating area, etc. We got there a little after 7pm, so the afterwork crowd was in full swing. Paradise Lost has interesting atmosphere. At times a Gothic / Medieval Vibe, meets place w/ shipwreck decor, meets eleganct /club vibe w/ beautiful ceiling lighting, etc. Music played in the background. Staff are friendly, energetic, & attentive. We were pleasantly overwhelmed w/ the vast selection of tiki cocktails that were on the menu. Paradise Lost also have an intimate selection of snacks/ food menu items. This included Popcorn, Tater Tots, Devilled Eggs Rangoon Dip, etc. We ordered some cocktails served in unique tiki mugs & a bucket of popcorn to munch on w/ our drinks. The popcorn is flavored w/ Sea Buckthorn & Browm Butter, which gave it an special flavor profile. Our cocktails were well-prepared & nice & strong. Paradise Lost has individual unisex bathroom stalls & a communal vanity & sink area. The bathroom stalls have spooky voices coming from a speaker as you use the bathroom. I was so humorously taken aback, it had me laughing when I came out...Definitely a different thing to experience in the bathroom - lol. My only two gripes with the spot were - they didn't acknowledge my birthday, even with a happy birthday from my server or the hostess. The second issue is it got sickeningly loud inside. This was a sunday night, and I ended up having to shout just to be heard by the girl right next to me. Everything else was good! Though there wasn't a dish that just blew my mind, everything was consistently really good and enjoyable. I recommended ordering a handful of dishes and sharing with a group. The cornstar martini was fun (and the popcorn was great!), the vodka pasta, caesar salad, and truff fries were enjoyable as well. The cute matchboxes were a cherry on top as we were leaving!
