We heard about the Flying Boat Tap Room from a neighbor who recommended it for their pizzas. Not really conveniently located from us, we decided to head out here after stopping by a nursery in the same general area. It was a late lunch so the place wasn't all that busy...perhaps a total of 5 diners including us. We sat down and waited a minute or so before a server came by with menus and to take our drink orders. My wife asked her if they served Coke Zero. They don't, so my wife just ordered water with a lemon wedge and I ordered the same. The menu is quite varied, especially for "bar food" with various pizza options. After carefully reading the menu, my wife ordered the White Pi (roasted garlic ricotta, mozzarella, feta, and rosemary/garlic butter drizzle) and I ordered Ol Betsy (house carne asada, avocado, crispy onions, white rice drizzled with chimichurri sauce). My wife's pizza was served before my dish and I had to wait a minute or two before mine was served. I think well managed kitchens should be able to get dishes out at the same time. My wife liked her pizza. She liked the wood-fired char around the edges and the appropriate chew of the crust. She also liked the garlicky flavor and the fresh feta. My dish was quite good! The carne asada was so tender and the crispy onions with the slightly vinegary chimichurri sauce was an inspired combo...adding the creamy avocado further elevated the dish. This place is interesting. Almost looks like a junk yard when pulling in. My wife looked at me like I was crazy to take her here. However, looks can be deceiving. The place was fabulous. I think they had 25 taps and the waitress was happy to bring us samples of a bunch before we made up our mind. We both ended up with a stout. We had a queso/sloppy Joe mixed dip as an app. While very tasty, it wasn't very hot (temp), which was a problem with much of the food. We had a pizza and fish tacos for mains. We also shared a cheesecake (or was it key lime) for desert. All were good, except for temp. The best part is with tax and tip dinner was only around $70. read more

Was just finishing up a stroll through the large local Market of Marion and wanted a place to sit and enjoy a beverage and a meal with friends and family. We found this spot when I searched for Shrimp Po Boy lunch and it looked very interesting. We drove over which was only about 8 minutes away from the market so very convenient to the market. Lots of parking so it was pretty easy to find a spot despite it being very busy. 28 beers on tap! So you can definitely find something you will enjoy if you're a fan of beer. The menu is large with lots of options and reminds me of a higher class of bar food. We started with a larger soft fresh baked pretzel that was plenty to share with our group of 3, it came with a really good beer cheese and some honey mustard dipping sauce. Really liked the pretzel and the dipping sauces found myself eating and dipping as I sipped on my chocolate coffee stout in a fun 10oz glass that made it very refreshing. We ordered our entrees as the music started back up and while the music was good it was so loud we could no longer have a conversation at our table without shouting so it would have been great if the volume was a bit lower since this was Sunday lunch not Friday night beers. The food arrived in stages as it is served as it became ready from the kitchen. First out was the blackened fish tacos my mom ordered. She said they were good but not spectacular, she ate just the fish out of one and took the rest home. Next out was our friend's bang bang shrimp and they looked amazing. The presentation was very nice and he offered one of them for me to try. Very crunchy batter and delicious sauce however it overwhelmed the shrimp and you could not taste them, which depending on how much you like shrimp could be a good thing or not. Next out was my shrimp po boy and why it looked good the ratio of shrimp to bread was way off. 3 maybe four whole shrimp to a huge bun. The shrimp were the same style as the bang bang shrimp just a different sauce. While the sandwich was good I basically took a few bites to get the whole experience and then just ate the few small bits of shrimp and left the bun. Maybe if I had not eaten the pretzel I would have liked all the bread as it did taste good but definitely not enough shrimp for its size. The chickpea salad was definitely the star of the entree as it had so much flavor and was amazing. Service was great and they were very attentive and offered samples of the beers if we wanted to try them. Highly recommended for beers and snacks but not sure I would recommend the seafood. Today after playing we had lunch at Flying Boat Tap Room in Ocala. I've never been there but friends that have said that I would really like their food. So, four of us that played golf opted to go there instead of our favorite Chinese restaurant in Ocala. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised at the murals on the walls. They are pictures of the Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose. I moved to Florida from Long Beach, CA and that was where the Spruce Goose was originally placed as a museum before moving it to Oregon. The murals were beautiful and the cat in each picture of the plane was cute. Our server Simara came by to take our drink orders and gave us the menu. My goodness such an extensive menu from Tapas to handhelds. It was a hard decision in selecting what I was going to eat. I originally asked about the Italian Beef sandwich then, I change my mind and thought maybe I can make my own pizza. No, maybe a smashed burger. While deciding what to eat for my main entrée, our friends ordered not the norm tots and banging n banging shrimp. These are listed under Tapas in the menu. It did not take long before the tapas came. I was a little reluctant to trying the shrimp but went ahead and dove in. There were five pieces of panko fried shrimp on a bed of greens with their house bang-bang sauce. You have to try this dish. The other were tater tots tossed in fresh garlic and Parmesan served with peppadew aioli. Simara took the orders for our main entrée. I decided on the Flying Boat which is Smashed Burger, cheddar, bacon with fried egg. No cheddar cheese for me. I swear after she took the order all she did was turn then the dishes came. It was fast. Simara was always coming around to ensure that we did not need anything. Always asking everyone if they needed a refill. I must say it was a pleasant experience which was the complete opposite of our experience from another restaurant the day before. It is always nice when a restaurant can exceed my expectations and then make me want to come back again. If you've never been to the Flying Boat Tap Room in Ocala, FL you have to try it. This place is awesome! The vibe, beer, service and food are all great! I stopped by here for food to go and a couple of beers on the way back home and I'm so glad I did. There was plenty of parking and the place was busy early on a weekday. The bar staff/servers were all very friendly. The DIPA I had was great. I highly recommend the Juanita Cabra pizza. I also had another pie that was awesome but can't remember which one. It was some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life. read more

Tried this place out, close to home, wow. Awesome area to sit at close to the bar, local made beers on draft, great tasting food and ambience. I personally tried some of the beers on draft, ended up with the #11 "Barrel of Monks Single In Havana" which is a Belgian blonde beer made in Boca Raton, paired with "Da Buff Blonde Chick" pizza which is an alfredo sauced up pizza with bits of chicken with drizzles of buffalo and ranch sauce. If tried pizzas attempting to taste good and this is the only one that beats the others out of the park. A tremendously great gamble, would definitely recommend and personally try other menu items here. Would definitely make this a good food spot if you're looking for a great place to eat in the area. 2nd visit for lunch on a Saturday after hitting the trails at Santos. A lot busier then our first visit but food was on point. The beers were good, great selection. Great service. We were in the area to ride bikes and camp, and heard about this spot. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into everything, the art, the food, the presentation... all of it! We sat at the bar and could see back into the kitchen, and what a treat! The crew worked so well together and seemed like they really enjoyed what they were doing. We ordered a few beers and split a pizza. The pizza came out on a beautiful wooden paddle. The toppings were fresh and delicious. The crust was pretty standard. While watching other items be prepared and plated, I have a decent list of things I'd like to try whenever we are back in the area. The salads are big and beautiful. Served in a gorgous wooden bowl. This is my second time here in the year! So many local beers and ciders to choose from and the food was amazing! Our waitress was awesome And helpful. The Old Betsy was a family favorite! And do NOT forget about the banging shrimp! One of the food runners came out (red head) and was a bit rude when she dropped our plate off and when she came in and saw the 3 reserved tables near us was vocally "annoyed" that the huge party was coming in 8/15. This was our first visit to this establishment. It is very cute inside and out. It was very cold so we didn't sit outside but it looked like a super cute place to sit when it's warm. The service was impeccable. Our server was very sweet and very attentive. I love, love , love the tapas on the menu! We ordered the pretzel and hummus and both were delicious! My husband and I each got pizza but they were big enough that we could have shared one. I'm a wine drinker and they did have wine but only one type of Chardonnay and it was not good. Sometimes you want great food, good beer menu, and a relaxed atmosphere. It's easy to find that place in Belleview! Between the plane theme on the inside and patio with heaters on the outside you will find a great place to relax. On Saturday night there was live music on the patio. There are 28 beers on tap, mostly from Florida, and a variety of tapas. The staff will be happy to give you a sample of beer before you commit to it (you can get a flight) and the tapas each come out as they're ready. We split the lobster grilled cheese which tastes great and did not skimp on the lobster. The street corn dip and burnt ends were very good. My son enjoyed the Plane Jane burger and the potato wedges side tasted like soft baked potatoes. The food the service and the service was very good! The selection of beer was very good as well. Only suggestion we have is to see if the seating could be made more comfortable. A lot of tap rooms and breweries are for some reason similar with the metal stools and hard wood seats on the chairs. Many may stay longer if more seat padding was provided. I flipped back and forth between 4 and 5 on the review, as I spend a lot of time there and did not want to unfairly taint the waters. But seeing others also feel similar, I figured the high end was the direction to go. Flying Boat is located on SR 35 (Baseline) just north of Belleview, FL. Easy to spot at night from all of the strung lights. There is a patio in front with music some nights and a building divided into the taproom and a quieter sit down room (useful if you want to go to brunch to talk rather than listen to entertainment when it is inside). Open every day from lunch to 10 PM, except Tuesday - and open for brunch on Sunday, so closes earlier. Honestly, one of the best taprooms in the area (Serendipity Brew may top on the brews, barely, but on 12, while Flying Boat has 28). While the majority of the tap brews are Florida and not across the country, the cooler gets a bit of others areas of the country, if that is your gig. Had a nice, long talk with Tim and Paige (one of the three owners) and they trek around Florida to distributors when a beer in not available locally and even talk to breweries to get beer you will not find anywhere else in this area. I recently paid $100 for the mug club (very nice "Rennaissance Faire" style mug - see pix) although I may still get flights as they run through so much good beer. Bonus for being an Untappd venue so I can check the menu - and look another notification for a new beer just came in while typing this. Okay, so beer is not the thing for everyone. How about some top hits. They have a woodfired pizza oven and do one of the best pizzas in the area. They also have a great looking charcuterie board (on my list to try), design your own salad, rice bowls, sandwiches (the turkey with cranberry is the bomb), and other items. Thus far, all have been very good. Now a word about the staff. You can tell when owners and managers treat staff well, as the staff obviously loves doing what they are doing. My Husband and I were traveling through the area and found this place on Yelp. It has a cute ambience and we had a very attentive and friendly waitress. Husband had the Shrimp Po'Boy Hoagie with coleslaw and he said it was a 4 star lunch. I had a "create your own" Pizza with 3 toppings and all were fresh, delicious and the crust was very good (crispy). Tried this establishment recently on a Wednesday evening with a friend after work. It's a really cute place and they have a big selection of craft beers for sure. I did try a light beer, can't recall the name, but it was very good. The food and pace of meal is where it went downhill, unfortunately. We ordered a cheesy bread for an appetizer. Never arrived until we had gotten our entrees; one of which was delivered at least 5 -7 minutes before the other. It's very awkward when this happens. I ordered the Sandy Waff sandwich, a fried chicken patty, hot honey and Gouda cheese on a brioche bun. It was ok, a bit dry - nothing to impress. I ordered potato wedges, which were dry, shriveled up and tasteless. My friend had the Pig Pen sandwich - pulled pork, provolone, bacon and pickled onions on a brioche bun. She said it was ok. The cheesy bread was ok. I so wanted to love this place, its vibe is really cool. Lots of selections of beers is great, but the menu is too big, nothing I tasted would make me want to go back there. read more

Touristy themed restaurants usually fall short of whatever benchmarks the (oft distant) owners put to task but certainly not here. They're pilots and the likely result is proof positive you can have an enclyclopedic Cheese Cake Factory like menu and put out really good food. They do it, I don't know how they do it, but they do it. Probably their pilot pedigree. At least to me, everything I've ever tried here was really good. Somewhat elevated, actually. Case in point, finishing salt on the queso chips. Bam! Some of the best wings ever, hardly even on the menu. Had to do some diggin' to find them last time in. Pesto base with mozzarella and chunks of chicken on a nice dough; fired in an open wood-fired oven. It was out before we really ate many chips! And a great beer selection - on tap AND in cans to-go! I tried a red that was tasty and my friend had a sour that she enjoyed as well. Service - lots of people in the kitchen (quick turnaround on orders!) Friendly and knowledgeable. Ambiance- owned by pilots, so the mural of a huge bellied airplane helped to understand the name of the place. A favorite place of locals and when I mentioned to a cashier at another establishment in the vicinity she agreed it was a "great place with the locals". Summary - Everything coming out of the kitchen looked good and smelled delicious. Homemade cakes looked yummy too, but we were too stuffed to try! We went to watch the rugby game where they changed the channel for us w/ volume in the back sitting area. Ordered three apps the Shrimp, Octopus & Clams w/ side of Garlic Butter which is a must! I highly recommend the octopus & I am super picky on octopus, but this was exceptional. Lovely red sauce accompanied it & the baguettes. Large beer selection & the two ciders I tried were great!
