Poor service from John. I hired him to install a 240 volt outlet for my electric vehicle. He came, gave me an estimate, we agreed on the price and he installed the outlet. He told me that he would pull the permit from the city if I needed to. I followed up with him through a phone call about the permit. He didn't answer for a couple of weeks. Then I got a hold of him and he tells me he's been out of town. I requested him to get the permit from the city. He said he'll do it over the course of next week or two. We kept having this conversation a few times and 3 months past by. I urged him to get this done as I wanted to apply for a charger installation rebate and time was running out. Well as it turns out, while waiting for him to get the permit, I ran out of time. I am highly disappointed and dissatisfied with his service. All I can say is to be highly cautious of his words and have him finish the job and get all the pemits before paying him. I won't hire him not recommend him to anyone read more

John gave me a quote last July to change out all of the can lights in our house to LEDs and install 2 new lights that came in well under any other quotes we had. On installation day, he said that he got the wrong LEDs and needed to switch them out. 3-4 hours later, he returns with lights that are much more expensive than the agreed upon price. But they look nice and they're about the same price as one of the other contractors, so fine, we let him install them. He does all but the one in the stairwell because he says that he needs to think of a way to get to it, but more on that in a second. Once he went in to install the 2 new lights, he drilled a hole in the ceiling and then promptly said that it wouldn't be possible to install them because there were too many ducts in the way. Ok, fine, then how do we fix the ceiling? Well, the finish on the ceiling is strange, so he can't do it, but he's got a cement guy, and he'll contact him for us. Flash forward a few weeks and we are getting the run around about the cement guy to fix the hole in the ceiling and he's still working on how to get to the light in the stairwell. Wait, aren't you a professional electrician? Certainly this isn't the first time you've had to deal with a light in a stairwell? Anyway, I get busy and can't find a time to get him back out to the house. Flash forward a few months later and the husband can finally be around so we call John back. Still no news about the cement guy and all we can do is insist that he replace the light in the stairwell. He looks up, and goes, "Well, I hope that your homeowners insurance is paid up." WAIT, WHAT?! Did he just threaten us with a lawsuit? Yeah, you're not getting up on any ladder in our house again. John is totally unprofessional. He claims that he is an experienced electrician, but the truth is that this is his side job. Have a small job? Go ahead and hire him, he'll probably bid it cheaper, but buyer beware, you get what you pay for. tl;dr: -Promised one price in July, pulled a bait and switch on product. -Said he could install two new lights, couldn't, got the run around on the cement guy, STILL have a hole in the ceiling nearly a year later. -Said he could replace all can lights, THREATENS US WITH A LAWSUIT over possibly falling while replacing a light in the stairwell because he doesn't have the equipment to get up there. So glad to say there are businesses out there who provide 5 star service at reasonable prices. I had an electrical outlet issue in my kitchen and none of the outlets were working for two days. Needless to say, it was rather annoying to not be able to use any of the kitchen gadgets. I tried to fix it myself but considering my electrical expertise from zero to none, I wasn't able to rectify the problem. I called Flying Dutchman this morning and left a voicemail. We had a probably with one outlet that was tripping a bunch off. I was in a rush since we use that outlet for our baby needs. John came out on a Saturday when no one else would. After an hour of troubleshooting John remedied the problem and I was so relieved. But around twenty minutes after he had left everything shut off again, I called John again and he immediately returned and replaced the circuit breaker and everything was resolved again. We used John before to install a doggie door and everything went fine , John is an electrician and he usually contracts out other workers to do odd jobs that are not electrical and that is where his rating goes down, the guys he hires are not reliable . On 11/02/19, we contracted John to change out our entire electrical panel to increase the voltage because the voltage we had was not strong enough to support the house. My sister had just re stuccoed the entire outside of the house. We were a bit concerned about that as John had to cut a hole in the wall outside the house where the electrical panel was and where we had just re-stuccoed the wall, John reassured us that everything would be fine that he would have his stucco guy come in and fix /re-stucco the wall when he was done. He gave us a quote minus the cost of the permits . He dragged his feet on getting the permits even though we had advised him that we were on a time frame as we had to do more work to the house and had to wait for him to complete the electrical upgrade first. A couple of days later he calls and tells me permits came out to $300 (asked for receipts, he only showed a receipt for $112.90), I told him that was all he would get unless he showed more receipts, make sure he shows you receipts for the permits he pulls. It took him several weeks to complete the electrical work , honestly, John is too old and needs to retire already , today is 1/6/2020 and we are still waiting for his stucco guy to complete the stucco repair part, he initially did the stucco repair finally after waiting several weeks, however the stucco work was not done properly , you can see on the wall where they cut out the hole to replace the electrical box. Still waiting to date for this job to be finished, we gave John a deposit, then in good faith around two weeks later gave him more money, the final payment will be when the job is completed to satisfaction, still waiting for that to happen. read more

Refreshing is a great word to start this review off with...because it was totally refreshing to come across a knowledgeable electrician, honest and dependable. I called 3 electricians, based upon Yelp reviews, after my electrical knowledge ran out to solve a tripped breaker. John was the first to call back, we discussed my issue and set up a time for him to come to my house. He arrived exactly when he said he would, we discussed my attempts to fix the issue which was changing out a breaker. He then got to work eliminating causes of the short. Within an hour he had the issue basically resolved. Meaning power was back on to outlets and lights that had been on this tripped breaker. Had my budget enabled me to afford John further delving further into the short I would have had him search. But for now I am down 2 outlets in my backyard everything else that had been out due to the short was working properly and safely. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to call John again for electrical work and when the budget permits checking further into the short to get the last 2 outlets working. Last but not least John was more than fair on his charges to correct my problem which was an extra bonus.
