The entire process and setting made it easier for those who had to make the arrangements and those who attended the wake less stressful. There's a small private parking lot next to the funeral home. I highly recommend this establishment. I've gone to many wakes in many locations and this was one of the better places I've been. The floral arrangements were spread out and displayed with care.

Keep in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak in the Bronx. I understand precaution and maintaining distance, but the funeral director made no prior mention on the phone about their current method of interaction with visitors. To actually put up a notice which states, "No walk-ins", while displaying a disclaimer of the pandemic which so many other essential businesses are doing, would have been sensible in order to notify visitors to not step foot into the funeral home and the reason why. I mean, you can't get more specific than that. Considering the doors are white, it would have been easy to see. But I checked a total of four times and I found nothing. Regardless of the guidelines on the news concerning funeral homes, that didn't change the fact that a notice should've been up outside. Now regarding the price for a cremation, which my mother requested for my father, the amount was almost $3,000. Two words: price gouge. As my mother and I were leaving, a woman, who works there and who had a nasty attitude, blocked the entrance. Like, seriously? This is where a notice would have sufficed so they wouldn't have to create their own little makeshift barricade with two vases and a table. I laughed for a good minute after I saw it. Or perhaps they should have just kept the door closed. Also, they should have kept themselves seated at the window where they talked to their visitors. But personally, I refuse to conduct business and do transactions that way as if it's a walk-up window at a fast food joint. That was our first and last time at this funeral home. If I could give them no stars, I would.

Gate of Heaven and Kensico Cemetery are adjacent to each other but are operated separately. Kensico was founded in 1889 as a non-sectarian burial ground. Gate of Heaven Cemetery, on the other hand, was established later and is owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Certainly there are more crosses and other religious icons here at Gate of Heaven. We were able to easily find what we wanted to see. New York Yankees coach Billy Martin. Hollywood actor James Cagney. Baseball player Babe Ruth's grave was easy to spot, adorned with ball caps and such. D'Bari was extremely beautiful, clean, and newly decorated. D'Bari Funeral home was the 4th funeral home we called because the funeral by our homes never answered or returned our phone calls but D'Bari Funeral Home answered and instructed us on every format to be done prior to coming to them. They were respectful, warmhearted people who asked what we wanted, thoughtfully offered us options and didn't try to up sell like some funeral homes might. They're sensitivity was truly impressive, from start to finish. The funeral home is also nicely furnished, immaculate and well managed. We were impressed at what a nice multimedia presentation they could prepare with photos and memories. They were really dedicated, patient and helpful, using photos from various family members to craft some beautiful memorial booklets, related printed items and video screen images for the memorial/wake. Clive, a dignified, outgoing and very friendly man originally from Ireland, is the best. He was reassuring right from first contact and we actually enjoyed talking with him during the planning. We enjoyed his warm personality and clear interest in doing things right. That says a lot. Clive's colleague Hanah was also wonderful during all of the planning and at the funeral. She kept track of everything and, like Clive, treated us like friends. They're professional, warm and outgoing.
