First review of 2023 and feeling good that it's a dive bar......of course. I have not been here for many, many years. We came here on New Years eve after we found out there was no band at one of our favorite bars. Flys Tie was literally right down the street. Great setup here. Pretty large indoor area. Beautiful outdoor area with a large fireplace going. Not crowded when we got there about 10 pm,but it was definitely picking up when we left. I had 2 great beers and my wife had a couple of glasses of wine. Service was quick and attentive, not overly friendly. Had a good time as the new year approached. We will definitely be back in 2023, especially when there are bands playing. They get some pretty good local bands playing here. read more

A long overdue review for the AB Irish pub. If you're looking to bump heads with locals and key players from the service industry, Fly's Tie is your newfound hangout. As a dive bar, it hits the head on the nail. Cheap beer, lots of smoke, and a mix of characters. But did you know Fly's Tie prepares an absolutely dynamite Sunday Irish brunch? Top of the morning to you! I've eaten my way through a giant chunk of Corned Beef Hash around the 904, and I'll be damned, this is some of the best you'll find. First off, the portion size is out of control. Secondly, it's traditionally prepared. Lastly, it's lip-smackingly scrumptious. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit Fly's Tie when bar-hopping, but you're guaranteed to run into some cool cats along the way. After the Yelp Elite event tonight, a good number of us converged over to Fly Tie's for an unofficial after party. The poor bartender just got slammed by about 15-20 of us walking in and busted 4 kegs all at the same time. At least he got some tips out of the deal. I really wanted a Magner's and was surprised that they didn't sell it. My disappointment was short-lived when I found out that they have Angry Orchard on tap. There's not many places that I've been to that have a cider on tap. I instantly fell in love with this little hole-in-the-wall Irish pub. I think it's a place that I could definitely take my Irish friends if they ever came to visit to give them a bit of home in the States. If you're just driving down Atlantic Blvd, you will never see it as it's off the main road far enough to not be noticed, but I think this adds to its appeal as a hidden gem. Tonight, and every Tues, is open mic night and they host bands quite a bit. If you don't like small bars or crowded spaces, this pub will not be for you. It fills up quick. There is a big patio area outside, which is great for this time of year (March-April) but probably not so much during the summer. After seeing a picture of Bangers and Mash while looking up the bar on my phone, I asked the bartender what the food menu was like and was told that they only serve food on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch. My interest is now perked and I will definitely have to head out for brunch one day. read more

What a fun little place! I can't wait to come back to Jacksonville so I can hang here again. Fly's Tie is a small, hole-in-the-wall kind of place with a beachy, laid-back feel. There is nothing presumptuous or snobby about it. It is your classic local joint. When we walked in, there was a live band playing, so the inside area was packed. After ordering a pint and a few PBR tallboys, we headed outside to the patio area. Here, you will find a large fireplace, surrounded by roughly constructed 2x4 seating, and homemade tables. There isn't necessarily table service, but it is a short trip to the bar to get another round. We hang out most of the night, and were able to enjoy the atmosphere without interruption or consequence. The patio is lined with night blooming jasmine, so the soft, floral scents waft over the smoky smell of the natural fireplace to give the essence of not being in a bar, but possibly a backyard barbecue party. If you are looking for a place to hang out, enjoy your company, and have a large drink selection in a relaxed environment, Fly's Tie is your jam. read more

Very fun neighborhood bar to go to after a house party at the beach--although we were all pretty polluted even before we walked over there. Great atmosphere that's smoker-friendly with a very patient staff. It was a super crowded night and I had to wait a bit for a beer, but it's not like I had anywhere to be. I do remember they were playing some pretty good music that night and we ended up dancing in our little corner by the bar. I don't go out much anymore, but Fly's Tie is an unpretentious cheap night out with friends that is very enjoyable once in a very rare blue moon for me. And no, I've never eaten here. read more

Walk inside with your eyes closed and picture a dive bar... Now open your eyes and compare. This bar is filled with cheap drinks and lots of smoke. The weekend offers live music and a mixed crowd of old and young alike. Not sure how long this has been going on but there was a taco stand outside which were delicious. On colder evenings you can grab a drink and hangout next to the fire outside or on warmer days next to the Jack Daniels statue (not to be confused with Teddy Roosevelt). I've reviewed places known mostly to locals, but this might be the ultimate (that's an actual tax paying, alcohol licensed, legal business....) I'm not saying it's hard to find, it's just that first you'd have to be in the tiny town of Atlantic Beach, then you'd have to know to even look for it and then you'd drive by it a few times thinking it's someone's house who's having a bunch of people over for drinks. Probably because it used to be a house and it sits in a residential neighborhood among other houses. Even though the patrons are all locals, if you find yourself here for the first time, Mike, Kurt, the other bartenders and the other patrons will be your friends before you leave (if not, something's wrong with you.) Tuesday nights are open-mic and draw a big crowd, but there's live music most nights and band members from Puddle of Mudd, Shinedown, Seether, etc have been known to turn up here unannounced. It really is the size of a living room (because it used to be a living room), so get there by about 10 or so. It's definitely a music and Guinness lover's pub. read more

Be warned - this establishment is not honest. I was over charged $15 by the bar manager, Sean, on a round of drinks. When I tried to call to speak to him or the owner, Frank, I was unable to get through BECAUSE THERE IS NO PHONE NUMBER! The bar does not have a working phone. The one online is not connected. When I went in to speak to the bartender working, Eric, he understood my frustration but said he was not authorized to give me my money back because Sean was the one working the night I was there. I left my phone number, a copy of my receipt and a copy of my bank statement - nobody has called me back to remedy this. I've been here on numerous occassions but never for brunch. Let me just say O M G I was NOT disappointed. My husband and I arrived around 11:30, the bartender recognized us from past visits and was immediately on our drink orders. I opted for the crabcake breakfast which was their seafood take on eggs bennedict. Two huge crabcakes which were not skimping in the lump crabmeat, two poached eggs cooked perfectly and topped with a bacon hollandaise. It was a delightful taste explosion worthy enough for me to post pics on social media exclaiming "My breakfast brings all the boys to the yard. Damn right, it's better than yours!" My husband opted for the corned beef breakfast which was a REAL corned beef hash (Not that shoddy canned stuff you find at diners) with potatoes, onions and topped with two eggs. It also came with two hefty thick cut pieces of rye bread. He basically exclaimed that he had died and gone to heaven. We were even treated to free entertainment by the drunk woman sitting near us talking very loudly to the wait staff about exfloilating her rear end... (hey, I know it's a bar, but really? It's noon. Take it down a notch.) The owner was present, came out and introduced himself and made small talk and thanked us for coming in. We will definitely be making the treck from our side of town to be experiencing this wonderful goodness again. read more

One of the best pubs in Jacksonville, and one of the only ones I can think of not using the "Irish" thing as marketing schtick, Fly's Tie is a hidden gem in the Neptune Beach area. Its small and intimate but does feature ample outside areas to get away from the crowds when necessary. This is a welcome feature as it can get crowded, especially on weekends. However, even at its most packed, its almost exclusively peopled with locals who are laid back and friendly--its not like fighting the crowds at dance club or concert. Speaking of music, one thing you have to mention about this place is the great support they give to local [and occasionally regional] acts. There is always someone playing here, and I've got to say I've yet to see anyone play here who just wasn't any good. All in all, Fly's Tie is one of those places I often end up wishing I had gone to when I go somewhere else near the beach. Someone usually says "we should have just skipped all that BS and just gone to Fly's Tie" and then I end up kicking myself. There's always next time! read more

We had no idea this place even existed until the Yelp event at Maza and we spotted it across the street - thank you Yelp!! The unfortunate thing about this Pub is that it allows smoking - boo. But it does have live music - yay. And a very cool ambiance that would lead to large amounts of alcohol intake. By re-inventing itself as an Irish Pub with weekly bands and drink specials, opening the back porch for extra seating and taking advantage of the weather it has collectively brought us locals to an Irish tradition (as much as we Americans can handle) that is undeniable. If you haven't had Sunday morning Irish brunch at the Fly, you are doing yourself a massive disservice. -The waffles with house made whipped cream are huge and topped with large chunks of syrupy mangoes, a kid favorite. -The black and white puddings are thick and so good that I always order extra. -The bangers are authentic and delicious -The thick slices of home made potato bread toast are really good -If you like shrimp and grits and come to the Fly and don't order the shrimp and grits, you are quite frankly an idiot -Corned beef and hash is delicious here -The kitchen cooks one hell of a poached egg and you will want to order extra cups of the hollandaise sauce just to drink it -Best fried green tomatoes I've ever had -The crab cakes are massive -Self serve coffee station -Friendly wait staff -There's a full bar and they make their mimosas strong af. I'm usually pretty tipsy before the food comes out. -They have this special melon-herb vodka drink with frozen watermelon ice cubes that they make fresh and it's killer -Come right at 11am and be prepared to wait. They make everything to order and it is a small kitchen/venue. If you think you are too good to wait for this delicious brunch, then you don't deserve the delicious brunch. read more

Let me start by saying I've been here for a drink or 6 at night, as well as a Sunday brunch or two. The ONLY reason this review is getting 3 stars, is because of the awesome nightlife. Went there last Sunday for brunch. Sat down(place is seat yourself), and the group that sat down after us, was waited on first. It took us FOREVER (well over 30 minutes) to get our first round. There was a large group with several rowdy children next to us (not really the place for kids if you ask me). The waitress was inattentive to our needs, and had trouble filling simple drink orders. The food took over 90 (yes ninety) minutes... Food quality was good, with the exception of my "over easy" eggs coming out well past hard. I would have sent them back, but couldn't wait another hour and a half for 2 fresh ones. Bottom line... Stop by for a nightcap with some cool live music, but don't return in the morning to cure your hangover. read more

First time customer's. We had a blast! There are some really nice folks running this establishment. I think we finally found a place @ the beach that was friendly. The ambiance was great. The place is covered with all sorts of decor. The live music was awesome. We had the pleasure of seeing Ben Prestage. He is a one man show. Sings, drums, harmonica and all types of guitars. This is kind of a hole in the wall but that's what I like about it. The only reason for the 4 stars is due to service. It was busy and I get that but the bartender wasn't very friendly. Not rude but just right to the point, no smile. Other than that they had a band playing inside last night that was pretty good. I danced for a bit and then enjoyed the outside porch for a while. There's a bar outside too which is kind of cool, you don't have to go back inside every time you want a drink. Early on they had a window open to order through as well. Local dive bar , has reasonable prices and huge portions for brunch. Champagne is about $3.50/glass. I split the cornbeefed hash item and while there was plenty of food to split - the hash was very dry and I had to cover it ketchup and hot sauce to be edible. My friends had the potatoes, bacon and famous shameous and loved them - so if you go get those and some champagne. Definitely skip the corned beef hash and omelette . read more

Really don't know where to start! Ralphie and his crew are top of our list when it comes to customer service and making you and your guests feel like you're the only people in the joint. We brought our family pub crawl there last year, Had close to 200 pp with plenty of bartenders inside and out. It seemed like the place was much bigger then it is. Nobody waited for anything, and as busy as they were still made you feel like you were thier only customer and were glad to have you .
