I was a former client of focus, CPA and paid a significant retainer for tax advice and for filing return returns. Due to circumstances with my wife's estate, I was forced to change CPAs. On the advice of Focus CPA Group I participated in a conservation easement trust which has been subsequently disallowed. I requested that Focus help me argue this with the IRS and was denied by the principal because "I am no longer a client ". The lack of taking responsibility to help me is very disappointing and demonstrates the lack of integrity of this organization. read more

Stay away from this guy, "Amit". Extremely unprofessional, claims to have decades of experience but lacks basic business ethics. He is always interested to make a buck out of you, but doesn't really care to provide real value. He misled me into invest in something that would make him a quick buck through commissions. I agree with all of the one star reviews. I also believe the one 5 star review was written by an employee or someone whom he asked to write that review in order to raise his score. I used Amit Chandel's services for about 4 or 5 years. Since my taxes are not complicated, everything seemed fairly routine. So for those years we got along well. However, that all changed in October 2022. His office sent me an email one time in August asking when I would be sending the information they needed to prepare my returns. He office did not send any other notices. Then Amit called me the beginning of October. He said he needed me to get my documents and outline to him. I got the outline and documents to him the next day. It had been our routine in prior years for me to send my documents and outline at the beginning of October. My income was higher this year so I had a larger tax bill. I remembered from past years, when I was using a different tax preparer, that I could get on an installment plan which would allow me to make affordable payments. I could not afford to pay this high tax bill in one lump sum. I was worried about this issue to the point that I lost sleep. I contacted Amit in hopes that he could explain the process and give me the peace of mind I needed. I am a lawyer and, therefore, I am accustomed to clients calling me when they are worried. Generally, when I answer their questions and explain the process to them, they calm down. I was hoping to have that same experience when I called Amit. I left him a voice message explaining that I wanted to get on an installment plan. Amit called me back a few hours later. When I initially saw it was him (I have caller ID) I was relieved. However, the first thing he did when I answered the phone was yell at me. He said: "How dare your impugn my integrity." I was taken aback. It was like Woo. Where is this coming from? He continued to yell at me for several minutes. He said that things are different now then when I was on an installment plan in prior years. That he had sent me vouchers and that he had already told me to make a payment with a voucher. He said he could call the IRS and ask them to put me on an installment plan, but it would fall on deaf ears. He said he was also angry because I had gotten my returns to him late and that his office had messaged me so many times and I did not respond. As explained above, that is not true. More importantly, it was irrelevant and unrelated to the issue for which I had contacted him. Initially I put up with Amit's abusive conduct. I gave him the benefit of the doubt since I know he is under stress during tax time. But after several minutes of him ragging on me, I finally responded in kind. I became angry at him and raised my voice in response to his abuse. At that point, he said this argument was my fault and that his staff would back him. (This is why I think a staff person wrote the 5 star review). I pointed out that what he and I discuss is priveleged and that he should not have his staff in the room when we are speaking about confidential matters. In any event, the conversation went downhill. Instead of getting my questions answered and getting the peace of mind I was seeking when I called him, I felt very jolted and upset from that conversation. During our conversation, I told him that this is not about his ego. He replied that he has a very large ego. Thereafter, I did my own research and contacted the IRS. I was able to set up an installment plan similar to the plan that my former tax preparer set up for me years ago. The customer service person with whom I spoke at the IRS said that people can make payments with vouchers. However, one needs to be on an installment plan in order to avoid having their account put into collections. And to avoid having the IRS get a lien on bank accounts and other property. Amit had also told me that if I was on a payment plan the interest rate would be 29%. The IRS told me it would be about 6%. So there it is. For all of Amit's unjustified self indignation and unprovoked anger, he actually gave me incorrect information. Since he is a CPA and prepares taxes for his clients, he should be up to date on IRS requirements for routine installment plans. read more

All of the 1 star reviews for this this fraud Amit Chandel are true. This "man" is a snake that that will charge you extremely high rates and do absolutely nothing for you. Its also true (as the other reviews have stated) that he's a disrespectful jerk that makes totally unprofessional, rude comments and is almost impossible to get a hold of. I wasted so much time, money and emotional well-being trying to get my taxes done through him. I hired Amit do my 2021 taxes and he did a terrible job on every possible level you could imagine. He literally waited until the last few days to file my taxes after I had reminded him for months to get it done, which caused me a great deal of stress. I also repeatedly asked him to arrange for my taxes to be paid in installments, not in one payment, and then what happens? A few days after he filed the IRS took the entire $7000 I owed them out of my bank account, leaving me with a negative $4000 balance! I was furious! I had to put a stop payment on my bank account so that the transaction would not go through. But as terrible as the issues I mentioned above were, I think the worst part of hiring Amit was this: I paid Amit $3500 to do my taxes, thinking that his "expertise" would save me money. After he filed , I owed $10,000 in taxes. This was a lot more than I expected, so I had the return that Amit did amended, and guess what? I paid a tax pro at H&R Block $100 to amend the return Amit did and they were able to reduce the total amount of taxes I owed down to $4000! When I asked them how they were able to reduce my tax bill by so much, they told me that Amit failed to write off the depreciation of my rental properties, which was the biggest write off I had! It is important to note, that I truly believe that Amit did all of this to me on purpose. I believe that he left me with a higher tax bill and and had the IRS bill me in one payment to spite me after we had an argument where I told him that I never wanted him to do my taxes again. The argument occurred after I tried multiple times to get ahold of him and he never responded. I left him messages explaining that the deadline to file was coming soon and I needed confirmation that my taxes would be filed on time. He then called me back in a fit of rage, yelling and screaming about how busy he was, and being extremely rude and disrespectful. If this conversation were in person instead of over the phone, I might have been tempted to punch him in the face. At one point in the conversation, I was wondering if he had some sort of psych issues, because his anger seemed so unhinged and out of control! At that point I informed him that I would never hire him again. I've had some pretty bad experiences with different companies over my lifetime, but Amit Chandel is the single worst person I have ever had the misfortune of doing business with in my whole life! And believe me, it's not even close! Amit is an absolute nightmare to deal with and trust me when I tell you, this man will make your life a living hell! I'm writing this review in the hopes that other people don't make the same mistake I made with this snake. If anyone ever recommends Amit to you, do yourself a huge favor, run!! read more

This guy is a fraud. He will sell his services by saying that he will save you a lot of money in taxes and then do nothing for you.

Talk about lack of communication. When asked what the charge of filling will be I was told affordable. When billed I realized his idea of affordable is different than anyone else's. I was then offered to get my data back via mail and file elsewhere - which I opted to do. When I opted to do so, I was presented with an attitude about how "they will have to eat the cost of postage". If you charge this much for filling taxes, you shouldn't have a problem paying for postage, nor should you have a nasty attitude about it. It's sad that Amit came highly recommended and did not live up to that recommendation even one bit. To finish off the review - they are still not mailing me my documents, but instead asking me to pick them up - I guess this is to spite me. Honestly, I never write reviews but I am so angry over the lack of professionalism and horrible treatment you receive at Amit Chandel's Focus CPA group. Run for the hills if you can. They charge you very high rates due to their level of experience yet they can't call you when promised or send you important tax documents they receive. They can't even get my address right after I told his staff multiple times! I have received so many tax notices that I am late and now owe penalties because they never filed the documents timely. Then they tried to accuse me I never gave them the documents to file timely. Once I proved I did, they told me oh well, pay it on one notice. On another, they said they would fight and would never confirm if I owed it or not. It takes multiple text messages, emails to even get a response. Once you do, they blame you, yell "how many times do I have to tell you this" when they never did, tell you to go read some IRS articles and infer you are stupid. I'm an attorney and very smart and capable. I've never encountered anything like the verbal abuse and lack of doing my taxes properly and timely. They have cost me so much money and time. I'm at the point where I have to consider hiring someone else to recover money I had to pay to avoid a tax lien, then sue him to recover. read more

Horrible experience never returns phone calls never ever keep to their promise of delivering the work promised. Smart to get you into their door and when they have your $ no delivery results its a BIG disappointment. Staff changes more often then you can imagine - every new person gives you the same spill. Lethargic addressing any notices received - terrible attitude. Sky rocketing fees that does not justify with their service. RIP OFF .. already in work to change my accounting firm.
