I've gotten CPR training from Red Cross twice now through work. Each time they came to prison in person, CPR classes in the office, which made our experience very memorable. Both time I got training for CPR were with Bryan and he's amazing with capturing our attention and making the stressful content seamlessly engaging and entertaining. Each certificate consists of 2 portions. The first period is an online training program that is 3-4hr and needs to be done prior to in-person training, which also requires full attention to answer and pass the online assessment. I recommend trying your best to pass the pre-assessments which allow you to skip the whole content of each modules, and there are 8 modeles for adult and pediatric certificate. The second portion is about 2.5-3hr of in-person practice CPR, which is quite exhausting. I suggest you have a good meal or bring coffee. This portion allows me to practice live situation of how to perform CPR, use AED machine and how to help saving adults and children in different kinds of life threatening situations. I definitely recommend taking your in-person portion with Bryan. He's funny but stern, and he has more than 20 years of experience teaching all sorts of CPR classes. He's a gem! read more

Terrible customer service. Attempted to take a online/in person blended learning CPR class. After completing the online training I was never sent a completion email. When I showed up for in person training they said I had to show them this email and they had no other way to verify I took the class. Wasted two hours of my day driving to the in person training only to be turned away. I called focus health and they said this happens all the time. I asked for a refund and they agreed but never issued a refund even after calling 3 more times. Finally had to reverse the payment though my credit company. read more

I was needing to renew my CPR/First Aid certification and I went to the American Red Cross website to find a day that suited me and a location relatively close for a practical price. I ended up going with Focus Health, Co. I also appreciated that it was a 1.5 hour in person practical skill session. L O C A T I O N This particular session was in San Jose in the University of San Jose building (don't mistake it with the Cal State campus as that's in a completely different location). There's plenty of private parking so it was easy to park in front. C L A S S I took an Adult/Pediatric CPR and First Aid hybrid class so most of the instruction was online. It was a bit cheesy and repetitive, but it was good to do it over and over again so that if it did occur in real life, you'd know what to do. There were 31 missions. Not every one had a scenario you needed to interact with. For the skills portion, I headed to San Jose. Our instructor was already set up and ready to go with all the practice dummies well in advance. He was quite friendly and made sure everyone was being safe considering we're doing this in COVID times. Class participants were limited for the space and it was quite small so I appreciated the sanitizing items and the short session. O V E R A L L If you've never taken a CPR/First Aid class, you should. It's a skill that everyone should have or at least know. I hope never to have to use it, but if a time comes that I need to use it, I'm glad I got my training. I've had other CPR training and folks who instruct are quite knowledgeable and can answer any lingering questions. read more

I showed up to a CPR class at the designated start time of 11:30 am and the door was locked. A sign on the door stated the class had already started and any "late" comers would have to reschedule. I was on time! Called focus health and they could do nothing for me but issue a refund. Not a big issue for me personally because I have time to take the class elsewhere. But for someone who needed this class for work that would be horrible! Extremely unprofessional. Very disappointed in this organization. read more

Signed up for a class on one day - received confirmation for another day. Called right back and told the initial class was full. Cancellation would be $25 (half the price of the class). Spoke to two people - and told manager wasn't there. Repeatedly referred to small print on the sign up. Went back to website and noted information for the first day was there - with no indication it was full. Sign up button at the top of the next class. Noted that this was very misleading, especially given that I was transferred over to the registration page showing the initial date from the red cross. It seems the instructor at their Los Angeles location has a profound lack of understanding of the principles and maneuvers of BLS. She seemed completely dumbfounded when someone asked if it was necessary to give mouth-to-mouth breaths, especially in the context of COVID. Additionally, the scheduled 2 hour class ended up lasting more than 3.5 hours, most of which was filled with non-educational anecdotes. Most of the BLS classes I have taken over the years hands you the certification at the end of the in-person portion of the course; this company waits 3-5 business days to email you your certificate, and if you wish to receive it sooner, requires you to pay a fee. I would seriously recommend against coming to the BLS or any other first aid training courses being offered by this company. read more

One star feels too generous for the service we received from Focus Health. My agency sent two staff to be trained as Lifeguards at the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maine earlier this spring, where they trained for about 20 hours. I recently got an email from the Red Cross saying that THE INSTRUCTOR FROM FOCUS HEALTH WAS NOT COMPLIANT WITH RED CROSS STANDARDS. THE TRAINING THEY RECEIVED WAS INADEQUATE AND, AS A RESULT, THEIR LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN INVALIDATED, MONTHS AFTER RECEIVING THIS TRAINING. I'm appalled that this important content was delivered in a manner that did not meet the standards set by the Red Cross. FORTUNATELY, this did not lead to injury or tragedy, but I worry for the lifeguards that are out there doing their jobs with insufficient training from Focus Health. read more

They ran a 24 person, single instructor, lifeguard class in a backyard pool! Unprofessional and reported to the Red Cross for violations.

Do not use this company for your CPR/ BLS certification. I drove 3 hours one way to get this class done for my nursing class and no one showed up or contacted me that it had been canceled. Use another service, one that answers calls and provides assistance on the weekends. I could not get this company to communicate with me for over 2 hours when I tried calling the Monday after, and they did not even hold the instructor accountable for being so neglectful. They just gave me excuses about the instructor not calling. Inexcusable. I don't have time for an inconsistent and dismissive company such as Focus Health. read more

Showed up 2 minutes late and was locked out. This was after I came to my other scheduled class and the instructor was a no show. I waited 90 minutes and the instructor never came. At my make up this same instructor is locking people out for being 2 minutes late. Terrible. And the main office has handled this all poorly. I've honestly considered reporting the charge to amex as fraudulent since they can't seem to have a reliable in person class to finish training. read more

The Red Cross CPR class was offered in a rented conference room in a coworking space that didn't have enough room for the students, let alone the manequins. Multiple people received a confirmation email with the wrong time, so half the class showed up an hour late. Due to the late arrivals and lack of space the class ran an hour late. The instructor was pleasant, knowledgeable, and worked through the difficulties, but I would choose a different service next time. read more

I paid a week in advance on the Redcross website to receive Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training. Focus Health was listed on the website---the cost was $79 and I was to take a online test and then later have a scheduled appointment on ZOOM with an instructor. The email stated I would receive rental equipment for the online course and it is Jan 20th and I have no equipment. Two days in a row I have called Focus Health Co on the phone number listed on their website: (323) 454-2008. They are suppose to be open at 9am to 5pm and no one answers the phone. I emailed contact@focushealthco.com and no one has replied. This seems like a scam. read more

TL,DR: VINCENT ABAD'S TRAINING HELPED US SAVE MY MOTHER My dad and I signed up for Pediatric and Adult CPR/AED/First Aid training through American Red Cross in the San Antonio/Austin, Texas area. Focus Health was one of the companies American Red Cross works with to help get people trained. We had signed up to get our certifications because my mother had just recently been diagnosed with stage four brain cancer, we wanted to be prepared in case anything ever happened. I was renewing my certification (been certified since I was 12 up in Canada) and it was my dad's first time. The instructor, Vincent Abad, was amazing! He was extremely knowledgeable and really listened to every question, comment and concern we had. I learned things that I never had in my past trainings. He really made sure that each participant was practicing the training correctly and felt extremely comfortable with all the knowledge that was given. He also gave us information about where to buy legitimate tourniquets, at home AEDs, and what else to look out for when buying CPR breathe shields and more. Just a couple days after we had completed our training, my mother had her first seizure. It was an extremely bad one; she lost consciousness, was bleeding, and was not receiving any oxygen to the brain and was turning blue/grey. My father and I very quickly and safely were able to get her to the floor and perform CPR on her. The paramedics and 911 dispatcher were astounded by how well we did in the situation and how much information we were able to give them in a clear and precise way. She was transported to the hospital and checked out fully; we were told that thanks to our quick action she had no brain damage from the seizure. We are so incredibly grateful to still have our mother. Thank you so much! Words can not describe how grateful and appreciative we are to Vincent Abad, Focus Health and American Red Cross. read more

Such a fantastic company! We needed pediatric First Aid and CPR classes for our teachers at our preschool, and we needed them to be completed all at the same time. Focus Health worked with us to conduct the classes at our place of business and gave us exactly the training we needed. On top of that, the instructor Bryan was absolutely professional and incredibly knowledgeable and by far exceeded our expectations. He was able to effortlessly seam the important elements of the course with our unique concerns regarding a preschool. We threw many questions at him including all kinds of hypothetical situations, and Bryan not only aptly answered them but helped us achieve an overall understanding that will help us to shape our policies moving forward. I did my CPR training on a sunday, after the training I was told by the instructor that we would have our Certificate the following day by Noon because it had to be sent to California. By Noon the following day still no certificate and no email, and its hard to even get someone on the phone. I received an email 2 days later stating that the process to get our certificate would take 2-3 business days, if we want it to be expedite we needed to pay an extra fee of $15. It is ridiculous, I am now on my 3rd day and still cannot get my certificate to give to my job. This was my first and last class with them. I rather go back to the American Heart association, at least you get your card on the spot. read more

I came here to get recertified in Adult CPR/First-Aid training. They have an online course I found very helpful. You are learning new information, then are repeatedly tested on it to the point where you learn the basics like the back of your hand. Then you are brought in to the physical portion to test your knowledge on a dumby with the guidance of our knowledgeable instructor. Im glad I took this course, especially given my current occupation. In addition, we were also taught the most recently updated CPR/First-Aid course. Couldn't be happier! read more
