I found TX5J Handyman ("Daniel & Crew") on Yelp and contacted them. Danel came over, did a detailed FREE inspection and gave me a competitive quote in 24 hours. I then decided to hire them for the job. They came in at 7:30 A.M. in the morning to beat the summer heat. It requires piping and extension exhaust vent directly to outside top siding. I had been meaning to do a bunch of repairs on my house (which is just about 13 years old and remediated 6 years ago) and was trying to reach out to different people to do different jobs with varying levels of success. The result was a backlog of things to do and coordinate with different parties. I originally reached out to David for some help with repairing a shower door that had fallen off. He replied quickly and showed up to do his estimate as scheduled. While he was over, he looked at a bunch of the other things that I needed to have done and offered to do them as well. He repaired everything in one day only a few days later. I have to applaud David for his courage to start his own business. But this makes sense for him. He knows he is good at what he does and he is organized. He is highly professional in his correspondence. He will outline precisely what he intends to do. He is timely. He is versatile in the tasks that he can perform. He possesses initiative. And he will follow-up with thorough documentation of what was done and needs to be done. Payment is also easy and he accepts a number of modalities. I have attached some of the pictures he took for the various jobs including: 1. Window blind replacement 2. Water valve and supply line replacement (more details below) 3. Ceiling fan remote control failure diagnosis 4. Watersealing of door threshold (more details below) 5. Tub spout repair 6. Shower door repair and adjustment (I contacted a bunch of people who would not offer to do this) 7. Sliding door repair (which another contractor said they would fix but never did) I want to comment in particular on his ability to diagnose problems. For the longest time, my kitchen faucet had slow flow. Just the kitchen faucet. Over the years, I contacted perhaps 3-4 different plumbing companies. They recommended ridiculous things like increasing the water pressure to the house (which didn't make a lot of sense given that the other faucets were fine and was impossible because the pressure was already maximized) and even replacing the faucet altogether (which would cost $220 for the same model and not resolve the underlying problem). David diagnosed the problem as excess calcium build-up in the valves and he was right! He knew the answer when all the professional "tradesmen" did not. I also have what some people would call a "lemon" for a house. The contractors that built it did bad job. It was remediated but even after this remediation, I had problems. One of them was the balcony door which would leak water when it rained. I contacted the builder and they said that my second warranty had expired and they recommended how to repair it. Suffice to say that they were completely wrong and David uncovered some pretty shoddy workmanship and commented on the unorthodox remediation which would lead to the problem. I should have had David remediate my house. Overall, I am exceedingly happy to have stumbled upon this gentleman and would be pleased to refer him to others. He is basically the "doctor" you want for your house. I hope he stays in business a long time.

We are in the midst of a tenant turnover (not the best time as a landlord), and having the home sit idle for any amount of time seems like an eternity. But that's not how it is with John. Two days after the tenants moved out, John supported us by conducting a walkthrough of the place, highlighting areas that needed some attention, and got to work. He brought his mower and lawn edger to do some landscaping, flushed the water heater, fixed the front door lock (after troubleshooting it live with a support agent), tightened up some loose cabinetry in the kitchen and bedrooms, and even cleared out the garage of dust and loose debris. John is incredibly thoughtful and is a great communicator - thorough and complete. When they showed up they said, "Nope there's a piece of wood trim in the way, and we can't," and they left. Literally that's all they said... and left. So I begin the process of calling around to plumbers and handy men. John is the only person that could squeeze our small project in, and when I say "squeeze" I mean it. He (like many others) was booked solid, BUT he went SO far out of his way to make it to our house. Even hanging around for a while in our part of town when I missed his call and it took me over an hour to get back to him. I couldn't believe it. He's clearly not short on business, so the fact that he was concerned enough about his costumer to just wait around and see if we would get back to him boggles my mind. He had SURGERY scheduled for the next day, and was so concerned that if he didn't get to our call that night he wouldn't be able to for some time. Again, he's not short on work, he just cared that it would be a nightmare for us to go that long w/o a dishwasher. Now you would think, busy as he is, with surgery the next day, and late in reply to him as we were, that he would rush the job. NOPE. He stayed here for hours making sure he did the job right, and he was a very pleasant "house guest" as well. Funny stories about his work. Tips about other "jobs" around our house that came up in conversation, and actually tips too, not just fishing for more work: "Oh yeah you could do that yourself, you just need XYZ and to watch out for these things." The dishwasher is installed, run beautifully, and the price was absolutely fair and appropriate. I probably would have paid more. Especially considering how long he was here, and that our instillation did have a few unexpected issues. Again you might worry with other companies, that all the polite conversation it racking up the price, but no way, not with John. Read the name of this business and believe it. You will love this handyman service.
