Update as of 6/1/23: my cat Cinnabon had a wonderful recovery from her spay. They called me to let me know she needed to be on a fast the night prior, and took her in for surgery the next morning. They called me when she was out of surgery and gave me an estimated time frame for her pick up. The pick up was seamless. I could tell her surgery was done with precision and great care. She did so well the first day home from surgery. No infection. I'm grateful for this amazing experience. Thank you! 5/17/23: Great experience today! Dr. Whittaker is quite knowledgeable about cats, and he was very sweet and gentle with my girl! I appreciate how they explain what they are going to do before they do it (vaccine wise). The staff is mellow respectful and professional. I'll post a follow up review when my girl gets spayed next week! So far.., so good! PS. Their spay and neuter (and even dental) surgery rates are incredibly reasonable compared to some of the other vet clinics I called for spay quotes.

The ONLY VET to use here is Dr Heidi. She is the best. The office staff is super friendly!! Gus loves Heidi.

That was $70 and available OTC for $15...

Was charged $70 for appx 1oz of Baytril/Neosynephrine feline nose drops for congestion. This is available over-the-counter for about $15. I called back to discuss returning or negotiating a more ethical price. I was shut down on both. Arm yourself with knowledge prior to paying their incredibly inflated prices. Non emergency X-rays for cat: I was quoted $600. Personnel are very kind, but unable to support this local business any longer.

Patient home from surgery and swiftly recovering.

Took such good care of my elderly Siamese, Ruby. She needed mammary surgery right away and they fit her in even though they we're booked out for weeks. Ruby is alive today because of the amazing clinical care she got here. Thank you guys! Annie

Folsom Vet has been amazing with our pup since the time we brought him in 8 years ago. He lived a great 8 years because of this hospital. He had major health issues that they were able to treat and he had great quality of life. Today we had to put our beloved dog down and they treated him and us great. Made our dog very comfortable, gave him lots of treats and love. I Would recommend this place to everyone! We come here all the way from Natomas because it's worth it.

After moving to the Folsom area, I needed to establish care with a new veterinarian. I had…read morepreviously used VCA for several years in other locations and initially planned to continue with them. They have a great mobile app that makes communication and appointment management very convenient. However, that changed when I requested an estimate for a dental cleaning for our 6-year-old Yorkie. The procedure was long overdue, and I understood there was a possibility that some teeth might need to be extracted. The estimate I received was approximately $4,300 before any extractions, with additional charges of around $75 per tooth if extractions were needed. Having gone through similar procedures with other pets in the past, I was honestly shocked by the cost. I started researching alternatives and came across Crossroads Animal Hospital. Their reviews were overwhelmingly positive, and since they're close to my home, I decided to give them a call. They provided a very thorough estimate that included all the same important pre-op and post-op care, but the total cost was around $750, with extractions priced at about $25 per tooth. I transferred my dog's records and was able to get an appointment within just a couple of days. The entire experience exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely caring both on the phone and in person. Most importantly, our Yorkie's dental work turned out fantastic. His teeth looked amazing afterward, only one small tooth needed to be removed, and the bad dog breath that we'd been dealing with was completely gone. Finding a veterinarian you trust can be difficult, especially after moving to a new area. While VCA offers some convenient technology, I'll gladly choose Crossroads Animal Hospital for my pets' care going forward. They've earned my business through excellent service, quality care, and fair pricing.

The Docs: Dr. Cuetara did a through exam on all four pups, he took his time to review their records and to note things to monitor. He also made sure that we had resources available and wrote them down for us along with a list of tasks to follow up on. He has such great bedside manners, I wish our doctors had such manners and dedicated as much time as Dr. Cuetara did with our puppies. Dr. Tavano who is the medical director & reproduction specialist came and introduced herself, spent time with us answering questions and giving us advice on getting a good start with our Breeding Program. She is perfect for us because she believes in responsible breeding to make sure dogs are healthy and with good temperament so they don't end up in shelters, etc. Staff: Theresa has been amazing at helping us out from our first phone call. She endured that we got vet records uploaded for our 1st appointment, called and texted to confirm our appointment. Mariah was our vet tech, she was helpful, loving and patient with our pups. Made sure everything got done right in the room. Emma, Dr. Tavano's assistant is knowledgeable about breeding, testing, dog showing, resources and very helpful. Front desk: Super friendly and helpful gals!

Unfortunately, the quality of care he provides is overshadowed by an extremely rude and unprofessional front office staff. For about a month we left messages roughly once a week regarding scheduling our Golden Retriever for a spay procedure and never received a call back. Eventually we were told Dr. Khurmi had been on vacation, and suddenly we were able to schedule the surgery. It would have been helpful if that had been communicated earlier, but at that point we were simply happy to finally get the appointment. We chose the laparoscopic option because we had read it could be less traumatic and allow for an easier recovery. We were given a price range, and when we dropped our dog off we paid $1,783.94, which was the lower end of the estimate. When we picked her up, we were told we owed an additional $116.06. The amount itself was no big deal to us. We had already agreed to a cost range and were fully prepared to pay within that range. Out of simple curiosity, we asked what caused the final cost to land at the higher end. The vet tech immediately became defensive and spoke to us in a condescending tone in front of other clients, repeatedly stating that we had agreed to a range rather than simply explaining the difference. We never received a clear answer. While waiting, there were also other clients ahead of us who appeared surprised by additional charges at checkout, so it did not seem like an isolated situation. The discharge process was also rushed. The vet tech briefly went over the medication but did not clearly review the rest of the post-operative instructions before sending us home with a printed sheet. Nearly two weeks later the stitches are still clearly visible, so we called the office today to confirm whether they were dissolvable or needed to be removed. I had made a mental note that the instructions mentioned something about sutures being removed around 14 days, as we are approaching that timeframe and I wanted to get them taken out. When I explained that this had not been discussed with us, the staff member responded in a very abrasive tone, repeatedly insisting that we had been sent home with an instruction sheet rather than simply addressing the question. After requesting the clinical summary earlier to understand the final invoice, I reviewed it again and it actually states "sutures out in 14 days," which contradicts what we were told on the phone today. As a client and not a veterinarian, I should not have to interpret clinical notes to understand basic post-operative instructions. Clear and consistent guidance is important when you are caring for a pet recovering from surgery. I have since emailed the clinic asking for clarification and am still waiting for confirmation on whether the sutures are dissolvable or need to be removed. Based on our experience, the front office staff and vet techs could benefit from additional training in client communication and customer service. Pet owners should feel comfortable asking questions without being spoken to in a defensive or dismissive tone. After reviewing other client feedback and the responses from this business, there appears to be a pattern of defensiveness rather than accountability. Hopefully this situation will be handled differently, but based on those responses I would not be surprised if the reply focuses on defending the clinic rather than addressing the concerns raised. When you trust someone with your pet's surgery, professionalism and clear communication should be the standard, not something clients have to fight for.
