I have been taking my "son" here since he was a few months old till now and they are always very kind and professional. I have met with both of the vets and many staff members over the years and have gotten very kind Christmas cards from them. We now take our "daughter" here as well and I appreciate the same level of care for both of our pets. I love that you can just come by when they are open for any new shots and its always an easy breezy process. My dogs love to come by here (because they know they get a treat after!) I have called for general health questions and they have always given good advice when needed. I have never been here for an emergency situation but always had good care for general health and wellness. read more

Dr. Heidi and staff are wonderful. They have taken care of our 6 year old labradoodle since he was 8 weeks old. Recently he had his teeth cleaned and a snaggle tooth pulled. Update as of 6/1/23: my cat Cinnabon had a wonderful recovery from her spay. They called me to let me know she needed to be on a fast the night prior, and took her in for surgery the next morning. They called me when she was out of surgery and gave me an estimated time frame for her pick up. The pick up was seamless. I could tell her surgery was done with precision and great care. She did so well the first day home from surgery. No infection. I'm grateful for this amazing experience. Thank you! 5/17/23: Great experience today! Dr. Whittaker is quite knowledgeable about cats, and he was very sweet and gentle with my girl! I appreciate how they explain what they are going to do before they do it (vaccine wise). The staff is mellow respectful and professional. I'll post a follow up review when my girl gets spayed next week! So far.., so good! PS. Their spay and neuter (and even dental) surgery rates are incredibly reasonable compared to some of the other vet clinics I called for spay quotes. read more

Rude staff! I called to order supplies to keep my dog alive since she had stage 4 renal failure. Employee said to be here by 3:45 since the close at 4:00. No problem, I get there at 3:46 and a gentleman helped check me in. Then comes this woman out of nowhere and is over his shoulder trying to get him to hurry up then she asked out loud "what is she here for" I replied my prescribed food and meds. She then looked at me and said, "next time be here at 3:30" I was shocked at this since the other employee said 3:45. She proceeded to say that they close out the register at 3:45. NOT MY PROBLEM. You close at 4:00, not 3:30. My dog is already on her last legs and 2 months ago my dog died and took her here to get cremated. You really think I want to be here with all those memories? No such thing as being nice to a customer. She rung me up and didn't say thank you or have a good day... nothing. I'm paying your salary! Be nice and courteous, don't tell a customer what time to come in. The only good thing about this place is Heidi who is the Vet of my dog. She is compassionate and carrying. Think the staff needs to follow here footsteps. Once I get another dog, I'm going to another vet. Only reason why I drive out of here from Sac is because she was recommended by a friend. read more

I want to talk about FOLSOM VETERINARY on Reading street. My dog Boston, had been going there since she was a baby. She was 12yrs 6 months old. Tuesday, January 18, Boston went in for a check up at Folsom veterinary clinic. I mentioned the fact that she had been acting different but they told me she was fine. $$$. I called them back to tell them Boston was in horrible pain. They would not let me bring her in even though they could hear her howling in pain. they said they were booked until the next week. I had to take her to an emergency vet and they had to put her down right away because there was no hope. All this happened in less than a week. The receptionist is extremely uncaring and rude and definitely will hang up on you if you're upset about your pet. read more

I was visiting my cousin when her pup, Jackie, unfortunately had a fall and hurt herself. She is an older pup and most of my family was worried it was her time, but having worked in the vet industry before I was sure that she just need some pain meds and some good rest and she still had some good years left in her. My cousin has a plan with Banfield, but they referred my cousin out to an emergency vet telling her her pup needed emergency surgery (before even running diagnostics). I called around and Folsom Veterinary Hospital had a same day appointment. I brought in Jackie and we saw a wonderful doctor I wish I remembered his name, but he was so gentle with Jackie. He palpated her and determined that he didn't think anything was broken but still wanted to take x-rays to ensure. He said if he couldn't read the x-rays then he recommended sending them out to radiologist consultation which would of course cost more, but would start with x-rays and then we could discuss further. They were not only so friendly, professional, but also affordable and price conscious. If I lived up North this is the vet office I would bring my fur babies too! Absolutely an amazing experience, and thankfully Jackie is all better! read more

Needed a ear cleaning today, for my sweet pupper- made my appointment and found the clinic, very clean, staff was extremely welcoming, even the clients were so very nice. I am always a little nervous with Sammie, and hoped to find a clinic that would love her as I do, Folsom Veterinary Hospital did not disappoint, the front desk staff was beyond amazing, the medical assistant, made my sweet Sammie feel like she was part of his family, DR. I give a 1 star review because they FALSELY advertise their low cost vaccination clinics as "No appointment Necessary". I walked in today only to be told that my pet would not be able to be vaccinated because I dont have established care there. I would have to do a well exam. The person at the front desk was polite and said they could wave the well-exam fee and schedule me for next Wednesday. I am trying to get vaccinations for a pet that is being re-homed and dont need to establish care with the vet as they will likely never be seen here again. I believe they should make it known publicly that they will not vaccinate your animal until they have had a well exam with one of their vets. What a waste of time! read more

Not a fan of this office. I got a new puppy and decided to try a new vet. The DR is super nice. Office staff, not so much. The office is very old. Nothing is updated. They are rude to you. Try selling you on every vaccine that you don't need for your pet. Office staff doesn't know what they're talking about. Nickel and Dime you for everything. They will force every single vaccine on your animal against your will. Told me the FLU vaccine was mandatory. Made me get the first flu vaccine for my dog, to find out, it's not a required vaccine and it was voluntary. I was so heart broken because I didn't want my pet to have unnecessary vaccines that were MY choice. They will tell you one thing and then tell you another thing. My child took our puppy in there and came home and said, staff was rude. That's when I knew I was valid with how I felt. I'd rather move my puppy to a new vet where the staff isn't rude and the are actually knowledgeable. So disappointed. Awful place. Don't take your animals there. read more

My most recent patient's name is "Rosie", she is NOT a Yorkie. She is Poodle & Chihuahua (I think). She recently had to have her mammary glands operated on & some removed by Dr Heidi. Rosie is a senior with no teeth & she is so sweet & peppy. She is a favorite of the staff. Dr Heidi is awesome & I am blessed to call her my friend. She is an excellent surgeon & knows her stuff!! We ended up with an emergency and they were awesome to take us just before closing and have continued to be great even after! Back in the 90s, we used to bring our pets here and now I remember why. I have been seeing the staff and doctors at FVH for almost 22 years. When first moving to Folsom, my pug puppy shattered his elbow after jumping out of bed and Dr. Fisher attended to him and performed a difficult surgery. He recovered excellently and lived on for 15 more years with nothing but a slight limp (that gave him personality.) They tended to our 4 dogs, Justin, Joey, Lola and Chiquita with such care, right up until the end. And, along the way, they tended to us too. Now, we added our two new Shiba girls to the family, and I would not think of taking them anywhere else. They handle everything from nose to tail, puppy to older kid. The vet, Dr. Shirley Fisher, was the same - never smiled, no bedside manner, unempathetic, not at all friendly to either my cat or myself and most importantly, she never diagnosed a problem nor helped my beloved cat. On top of that, they put me on an email list to which I did NOT subscribe.
