This father and son (?) biz is about as good as it gets. Amazingly friendly, fabulous work, and the prices are SO low, I ended up giving him a 50% bonus for all the work he did. It was one of the best business experiences I've had ... Big smiles while he worked on this cranky OLD lock from this door that dates back 100 years. He fixed it. No issues with language barrier at all, his English was just fine. The very next day, I recommended this locksmith to a friend in downtown SF whose business had been burgled, and the keys stolen. Fon came down there at 9pm, and quoted such an affordable price, and then gave folks a ride home. So kind! There are still honorable folk out there. These are some of them. Yes, you have to walk through a Fish shop to get back to their counter, but don't worry, it's worth it! read more

Today Fon came to change the keys/lock on one of my apartments. The door lock is 80 years old and complicated. He was just terrific and even though it took extra time, he only charged me what he had quoted after I texted him a picture of the lock. A perfectly satisfactory transaction and I plan to use him again. read more

Went here to get 3 copies of a "Do Not Duplicate" key. Cost $3.90 in total, so not a bad deal at all. Location is a bit of a downside, but it's not an issue and I didn't have to be there for very long since he's really fast. He's also open on weekends, so that can be convenient. Pretty good. read more

I found this locksmith on Yelp to get some keys made while I was staying in nearby Russian Hill. While the location may seem a little tricky since his stall is behind a fish vendor, this guy is seriously awesome! I actually ended up getting a few sets of extra keys made because the cost was cheap compared to Home Depot! Plus, he was able to duplicate some old keys that Home Depot couldn't even do for me. My bf actually had a duplicate set of his keys made here too! read more

Locked out of my apartment on a Sunday night, I phoned Fon, he told me he'd be over in about 30 minutes. Shortly after, the building manager appeared and was able to let me in. I called Fon to cancel. He was an absolute gentleman about it. Will keep him in mind if I need a locksmith in the future. read more

Yes you enter through a fish market, yes it may smell a bit but this locksmith is worth the trip! The man will not scoff at any quantity of keys you desire, he does his job and makes perfect keys for cheap. There is no verbal exchange outside of how many you need and when he's finished you'll be prompted to come back if there's any problems. If you need keys made I cannot recommend this man enough. read more

Super nice guy works behind the counter. He spent some time to explain why I couldn't get something copied (which made sense) and what to do. I got two key copies and 2 mini carabiners for $3.40! It was honestly a few minutes - 5 minutes tops. It's not hard to find it - look for the storefront with fish and walk through the aisle straight to the back. Cash-only. read more

Super friendly and super fast. He's hidden in the back of a fish market so find him to the left of the hallway. He also sells locks, knobs, the whole nine yards. To make a set of keys it cost me $2 plus change. Would definitely go back. read more

Fon was incredible. We had our apartment key stolen, and did not feel secure leaving our home with all our possessions in it. Fon re-keyed our lock the very next day, and went out of his way to meet us on a Saturday. The lock to our door is about 100 years old so it would have been difficult to replace. We are so happy that we get to keep the original lock and can feel safe again. Thank you Fon! read more

He came right over to our location and quickly re-keyed our locks for us. I mean he was here in 15 minutesand re-keyed two locks in a complex, four-level security system in an apartment building and was done with a smile 20 minutes later. From phone call to all-taken-care-of in just over half an hour. Wow! read more

An honorable man. We overcame some initial challenges about timing -- Mr. Fon came through ! and I very much appreciated his son being on time and very efficient and honorable all around. I had Fon Locksmith Service come out today to an apartment on Bay Street on lower Russian Hill when my key would not open my deadlock. The locksmith arrived in less than 1/2 hour. He was very courteous, professional, patient, and gave me an excellent price. He charged $90 to open the door, and $65 for a new lock. This was on a Sunday. Many locksmiths charge a lot more, especially on a weekend or holiday. Plus, he took the time to work with the door, and was able to open it with the key after several attempts, rather than have to break the lock. It's not always possible to open a door when the lock has slipped like mine had. Other locksmiths might have simply broken the lock and charged a lot more. I would recommend this locksmith service. I took a couple of his cards, and have already given the information to some neighbors here in the building, the building manager, and a friend who lives close by. It's good to know there are honest companies in San Francisco. read more

I had originally wanted him to disable the buttons on the mortise lock because we thought my dad was activating it, locking the exterior latch, and preventing my parents' caregiver from entering each morning. Gal saved us a lot of money by explaining that all that was needed to be done was to turn the key one extra turn. Gal also adjusted the door because it was hard to close at times and smoothed out the caregiver's keys to make it easier to unlock the door. Gal did great work, but what really stood out to me is what a great quality human being Gal is. Not only was he understanding of the situation with me living so far away, but he showed the caregiver how to open the door if it's locked from inside, took a video of the process so I could share it with the caregiver in case she forgets, had us on speaker phone because the caregiver doesn't speak English so I could help translate. His patience and understanding is of the highest quality, saying that we will all be that age at some point. He was very respectful to my elderly dad and caregiver. Gal is highly recommended! I would use him again in a heartbeat!

The guy answered and said his "agent" would call me but he's on his way. Eventually an East Bay number called at 9:50pm, and said he'd be there in 30 mins. I asked how much the price would be and he said anywhere from $85 to $140. After waiting almost an hour and a half, he finally showed up at 11:10pm and told me my apt lock was "commercial" and the "driving fee" from the East Bay is $150 on its own and this lock is actually $270 -- but he'd take $180 on Zelle immediately. He then unlocked my door in about 8 seconds. Being that it was almost midnight and I'm a woman alone, I had no choice. I'm not sure why a "driving fee" would be relevant to a business that advertises itself as LOCAL. I could have called the plenty of other SF-based locksmiths and 1) not had to wait much longer than promised 2) not been pressured into a payment that was well over the price that was quoted.

Both HOA CC&R and basic aesthetics say no to running cables along exterior walls - but that was the only solution the ISP installers were willing to offer. Enter Cable Shmable. Instead of giving a rough guesstimate, Karim came out in person to review the scope of work, propose a cable path, and provide a solid estimate. The very next workday, Alex and Yunus arrived to do the job. Having Alex and Yunus work on my project felt like being in a happy place. They showed up on time, brought all the right tools, gizmos, and materials, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. Their cabling expertise was obvious as they masterfully navigated the fiber through every obstacle and got it exactly where it needed to go. When they finished, the work area was actually cleaner than when they arrived. As a finishing touch, Alex and Yunus are genuinely friendly, easygoing people to work with. I wasn't totally sure what happened or how, but I came home from an overnight trip to find one of the side cables on our garage door had come undone and caused the door to close lopsided. Huy was prompt, kind and efficient. He took a look and set reasonable expectations about cost/time and what would be needed (new drum hardware and possibly a new cable), and then was able to re-use the cable which brought the final total under his initial estimate. He also gave advice about easy garage door maintenance that we definitely weren't doing before. All in all, very happy with the service and while I hope I don't need them again anytime soon, I won't hesitate to reach out to them as needed.

I recently reached out to Fon Locksmith after finding them on Reddit. I'd heard they could copy DoNotDuplicate keys, so I decided to give them a try. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. I was even able to text him a picture of my key to check if he could duplicate it. Although it turned out he couldn't do it, I'm genuinely grateful for his patience and professionalism. He never made me feel rushed, even though he wasn't able to assist with my specific request. Super nice guy works behind the counter. He spent some time to explain why I couldn't get something copied (which made sense) and what to do. I got two key copies and 2 mini carabiners for $3.40! Super friendly and super fast. He's hidden in the back of a fish market so find him to the left of the hallway. He also sells locks, knobs, the whole nine yards. To make a set of keys it cost me $2 plus change. Would definitely go back. read more
