This father and son (?) biz is about as good as it gets. Amazingly friendly, fabulous work, and the prices are SO low, I ended up giving him a 50% bonus for all the work he did. It was one of the best business experiences I've had ... Big smiles while he worked on this cranky OLD lock from this door that dates back 100 years. He fixed it. No issues with language barrier at all, his English was just fine. The very next day, I recommended this locksmith to a friend in downtown SF whose business had been burgled, and the keys stolen. Fon came down there at 9pm, and quoted such an affordable price, and then gave folks a ride home. So kind! There are still honorable folk out there. These are some of them. Yes, you have to walk through a Fish shop to get back to their counter, but don't worry, it's worth it! read more

Locksmith was as advertised - you go through the fish market at 1135 Stockton St and find him on the left side after a few stalls. There was only one person ahead of me but it takes no more than 1-2 minutes per key for duplication. 3 normal keys were copied at $1/key. He was able to duplicate a DNC key for me as well, at $8 (my landlord was going to charge me $50). Overall, very happy with the result! read more

Went here to get 3 copies of a "Do Not Duplicate" key. Cost $3.90 in total, so not a bad deal at all. Location is a bit of a downside, but it's not an issue and I didn't have to be there for very long since he's really fast. He's also open on weekends, so that can be convenient. Pretty good. read more

These guys are fantastic. They are super reasonable and they always are available. I use them for every issue I have from a tenant snapping a key in the lock to replacing and upgrading any type of locks these guys do it all. Did I say the were super reasonable too!!! read more

Today Fon came to change the keys/lock on one of my apartments. The door lock is 80 years old and complicated. He was just terrific and even though it took extra time, he only charged me what he had quoted after I texted him a picture of the lock. A perfectly satisfactory transaction and I plan to use him again. read more

I found this locksmith on Yelp to get some keys made while I was staying in nearby Russian Hill. While the location may seem a little tricky since his stall is behind a fish vendor, this guy is seriously awesome! I actually ended up getting a few sets of extra keys made because the cost was cheap compared to Home Depot! Plus, he was able to duplicate some old keys that Home Depot couldn't even do for me. My bf actually had a duplicate set of his keys made here too! read more

This team is no joke. Fon did a high quality job on installing and replacing a lock at my apartment, in addition to walking me through future lock improvements and key replacement options. Super nice guy works behind the counter. He spent some time to explain why I couldn't get something copied (which made sense) and what to do. I got two key copies and 2 mini carabiners for $3.40! It was honestly a few minutes - 5 minutes tops. It's not hard to find it - look for the storefront with fish and walk through the aisle straight to the back. Cash-only. read more

Super friendly and super fast. He's hidden in the back of a fish market so find him to the left of the hallway. He also sells locks, knobs, the whole nine yards. To make a set of keys it cost me $2 plus change. Would definitely go back. read more

Locked out of my apartment on a Sunday night, I phoned Fon, he told me he'd be over in about 30 minutes. Shortly after, the building manager appeared and was able to let me in. I called Fon to cancel. He was an absolute gentleman about it. Will keep him in mind if I need a locksmith in the future. read more

Yes you enter through a fish market, yes it may smell a bit but this locksmith is worth the trip! The man will not scoff at any quantity of keys you desire, he does his job and makes perfect keys for cheap. There is no verbal exchange outside of how many you need and when he's finished you'll be prompted to come back if there's any problems. If you need keys made I cannot recommend this man enough. read more

Fon was incredible. We had our apartment key stolen, and did not feel secure leaving our home with all our possessions in it. Fon re-keyed our lock the very next day, and went out of his way to meet us on a Saturday. The lock to our door is about 100 years old so it would have been difficult to replace. We are so happy that we get to keep the original lock and can feel safe again. Thank you Fon! read more

An honorable man. We overcame some initial challenges about timing -- Mr. Fon came through ! and I very much appreciated his son being on time and very efficient and honorable all around. He came right over to our location and quickly re-keyed our locks for us. I mean he was here in 15 minutesand re-keyed two locks in a complex, four-level security system in an apartment building and was done with a smile 20 minutes later. From phone call to all-taken-care-of in just over half an hour. Wow! read more

I had Fon Locksmith Service come out today to an apartment on Bay Street on lower Russian Hill when my key would not open my deadlock. The locksmith arrived in less than 1/2 hour. He was very courteous, professional, patient, and gave me an excellent price. He charged $90 to open the door, and $65 for a new lock. This was on a Sunday. Many locksmiths charge a lot more, especially on a weekend or holiday. Plus, he took the time to work with the door, and was able to open it with the key after several attempts, rather than have to break the lock. It's not always possible to open a door when the lock has slipped like mine had. Other locksmiths might have simply broken the lock and charged a lot more. I would recommend this locksmith service. I took a couple of his cards, and have already given the information to some neighbors here in the building, the building manager, and a friend who lives close by. It's good to know there are honest companies in San Francisco. read more

I recently reached out to Fon Locksmith after finding them on Reddit. I'd heard they could copy DoNotDuplicate keys, so I decided to give them a try. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. I was even able to text him a picture of my key to check if he could duplicate it. Although it turned out he couldn't do it, I'm genuinely grateful for his patience and professionalism. He never made me feel rushed, even though he wasn't able to assist with my specific request. If you're looking for a locksmith with a great attitude and excellent customer service, I highly recommend Fon Locksmith. You can reach the owner at (415) 203-0385 but he speaks mandarin! read more

If you like to be treated fairly, then Fon Locksmith should be your first round draft pick! Leave those other crooks on the bench who offer same services at double the price of Fon's! I spoke with Roy, and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I simply asked for a timeframe on when someone could come out to remake the key, but Roy was rude and unprofessionally throughout the call, he was evening yelling at his customer. And on top of that they are going to charge $210.00 just to change a lock, what a rip off. As a paying customer, I expect the basic courtesy and clear communication. based on this interaction, I will not be using there service again, neither should you. There are plenty of good lock smith in San Francisco!

I've done more major work (rekeying a home lock and a car glove box lock vs. just having keys made)…read morewith them twice. They rekeyed my home lock for $35 and my car glovebox lock for $45. Plus tax, of course. The prices are reasonable, they do good work, and they're nearby. Why not five stars? Both times, same scenario. When you call the number on Yelp, you get Mike, who is out in the field a lot. You work out a deal with him via email (665keys@gmail.com) and/or telephone. He's a bit hasty, likely super busy, but you manage. Then you get to the shop to find that the guy there doesn't know what the hell you're talking about and expects to quote a higher price. He's open to the explanation that Mike has already made the deal, though, after he sees a couple emails. This whole business is a bit frustrating. The second turn-off, though more minor, is cash only, one of my pet peeves. I normally charge everything for record, tracking, and points, and the amount of cash I carry varies. A minor inconvenience. Overall, I do recommend this place. Just keep in mind the downsides and note that lock prices vary based on the types of locks.

He was in a uniform shirt, was friendly, identified himself, and got to work. All locks got adjusted as needed. All locks got lubricated! A couple of minor repairs got done. FANTASTIC! We wanted a couple of special character keys. Those are not carried on the truck. Oh well; James had plain blanks and made our keys. Paid for services rendered, and waved good-bye to james. A few hours later, our doorbell rang. It was a guy in full motocycle protective gear. Big helmut with heavy visor, thick leather jacked, protective pants, boots, and a beautiful motorcycle at the curb! Mototcycle man held out to character keys already cut to work in our new locks! A familiar voice (James) said he knew we were disappointed so he cut these - try them and make sure they work. They do! That's beyond the call of service! Thank you, James, so much! The character keys were special to us because the keys we were getting rid of were character keys. My husband had given them to me over 36 years ago when we bought our house and put in our first locks! So lockwhrld saves me $320.00 and now I have two operable key fobs for my Infiniti. SHAAAAAAAAME SHAAAAAAAAME on the Infiniti dealer in Colma for deeming this perfectly good piece off equipment "inoperable".
