Went here last weekend with friends and had an enjoyable experience! I heard about the $5 Friday menu online and had to ask for it after we were sat, as it's not given to you upon being sat. Looking at the $5 menu (it ends at 8pm), I can definitely see why it's a crowd favorite. The restaurant was full, the DJ was playing jams, and the menu options were pretty good. From that $5 menu, we got spinach artichoke dip, which was okay (I think it should be started with chips instead of bread??), and wings which were fire. I got the lemon pepper. They were delicious. That menu also has lemon drops, and for $1 extra, you can get it and then array of different flavors, such as mango, peach, passionfruit, strawberry, etc. I got raspberry at the servers recommendation and it was good. For entrées, my friend got the Cajun pasta, and I loved it. I would order that one again. They also got oxtail, which I didn't try. I got the red fish, and let me tell you it was gigantic! I've never had this, so I was really taking a risk. I found that I don't think I love red fish, as it didn't have the flavor profile I was expecting, however, the sauce on it really brought it to the next level. I got some to go. The greens were extremely salty unfortunately, but the cornbread was really good. I know a lot of people talk about the service and sadly, I did feel the same. It did seem that our server was gone for extended periods of time, and we did wait a while to put in another order for the $5 menu. Initially one of our lemon drops didn't come out either, and we had to ask about it. However, I will say that once we were ready to order entrees, the service did seem to get better. Our server communicated that the kitchen was working on getting out food from the 8 o'clock deadline, and that she would come back and take our order in a bit. I appreciated that communication and didn't mind waiting after. I noticed that within 30 minutes, the restaurant really cleared out, so I'm thinking that a lot of people come for that menu and then leave.. which is surprising because it's a really good looking menu and if I lived in town, I would definitely come back to try more. It was great to pop in and find a nice, new spot in Jackson. The Taste Bar & Grill was a pleasant surprise and gave the hubs and I Houston vibes, aesthetically. We loved the attention to detail on the decor and layout. The vibe and streaming music was nice and added to the experience. The hubs ordered an assortment of wings and I tried the oxtail pasta. The wings were pretty good. The oxtail pasta took quite a while to come out. The hubs had finished his plate before mine arrived. The new bartender was very kind and gracious when reporting on the delay. Upon arrival, the oxtail itself had a heat (like Jalapeño seed heat) that I wasn't prepared for, but the oxtail meat was falling off the bone and well prepared nonetheless. We didn't order drinks this time around, but will return when we're in the area for drinks, apps, and a vibe! Happy to see this new business in the area, and wishing them all the best. read more

Went with my family for Easter. Turns out it was basically a lounge that served food. Food was ok , service was poor. Won't go back.

I traveled from California and was very excited tonight try the food and drinks. The service was extremely poor, unfortunately I could not see the happy hour drink menu and I told the waiter I wanted something with tequila, he had zero clue. He asked the bartender who responded everything has tequila NOT TRUE Mr. Bartender. Champagne was ordered, coke and water with lots of lemons (I received two very thin slices) I asked for more never received. We ordered the happy hour portion (oxtails and lamb chops thank GOD) for our meal and a spinach dip. Our dip came out after the meal, the gravy taste like creamy black pepper sauce and it drowned the rice we both were scooping it out as much as possible. Our waiter hardly came to our table, the coke glass sat empty for at least twenty minutes. When the waiter realized we were talking about the empty glass from the other side of the room he asked did we need a refill, umm yes. To shorten this review the manager did talk to us and my friend is usually not the one to complain but he requested the manager. I wanted to go I went, the food was not that great and the service was poor and that's my experience. I guess we weren't the attention seeking, social media posting guest and only hard working people looking for a good experience and food. Good food! The waitress was in training but she was nice. We had the turkey sliders and they were tasty and the catfish and grits were good as well! The atmosphere was more of a chill evening vibe! I wanted to like this place. I visited from Northern, VA with my husband who is leading a project here in Jackson. I follow the show Belle Collective and thought I'd support the business. They had plenty of staff on duty on Friday. We visited around 6p. We were seated rather quickly. We ordered the Oyster Rockefeller dish. It came with bread that seemed stale. (I thought it would be toasted, but it wasn't toasted or so it seemed.. it just appeared to be really stale bread. We (did order and get our drinks pretty quickly-- which we were happy with! We ordered pasta for entrees. My husband had seafood Cajun pasta (he enjoyed) and I had the oxtail pasta. I was extremely disappointed as I thought it would have a good Southern flavor to it..but instead it was completely bland -- both the oxtails and the pasta. To be fair, I did let the waitress know and they did offer to replace it or allow me to get something else. I declined...I just don't like to send anything back to the kitchen .. my own reasons. Though, I didn't love my food.. we will give them another try before we leave. read more

Came here last night for my birthday and the experience was chaotic. The restaurant side was full, so we were moved to the lounge. We ordered drinks before moving and waited almost 30 minutes to get them. Once in the lounge, our server Joe took my other friends orders and those drinks came out in under 5 minutes meanwhile I still haven't gotten mine. Joe is the ONLY reason this wasn't a complete disaster. She was attentive, fun, and did her best to save the night.Another group in the lounge completely lost control. I personally watched people popping pills before things escalated. They refused to pay, screamed at the server and manager, and the situation got so bad it looked like someone went outside and came back with a gun. Police had to show up. No one should feel unsafe eating at a restaurant. The food was decent, but the portions made no sense. One catfish plate had two whole fish, while the catfish and grits had two small strips. We were told the owner changed the portions mid-shift. That's unprofessional and unacceptable. What really sealed it for me was hearing the male owner come out cursing at employees, telling them if they didn't like how he runs things they could leave because "everyone is replaceable." This he's shit. I think he was drunk. That was disgusting to witness. You can't treat staff like that and expect good service. This place has good servers, but terrible leadership. If it wasn't for Joe, we would've left. The Dj needs to do better reading the crowd we wanted to have fun and turn up. He keeps saying the owner won't let him play that type of music yet. It's a lounge don't it suppose to fun and upbeat not slow and old school music. The owners need to get it together. read more

Overpriced food with guys only men cooking first red flag That's not even chefs Don't use gloves. I was there for my brother inlaw birthday this is a guy that's not hurting I never ever went anywhere where I never ordered food because it wasn't appealing enough. Attractive enough. Good enough for the prices . The party I was with literally canceled part of their order. The drinks comes 4 oz plastic cups not sanitary. Drinks are expensive for 4 oz. Beer you get 7 oz. You get double anywhere else for less on draft. The alcohol doesn't taste like what you normally drink and the Bud light didn't taste like Bud lite. I couldn't believe people were actually enjoying and spending money there. It must be the cheap unknown liquor because it's not the food the DJ sucked period. Literally this is the first time I went to a place that I wouldn't spend a dime on food the only reason why they make money. It is because it looks like more than what it is. The oysters very small And they literally barely put anything on them. Garlic bread old just didn't care it's just an afterthought catfish and grits. They just put a big scoop of grits not seasoned plain in the middle of a plate and two pieces of catfish on the side. No sauce nothing. I was shocked this place is called taste. I never went to a gathering at a restaurant andNo food. It wasn't worth it. I cook. Even the people came with us Noticed the food wasn't worth ordering. The owner I believe was walking around looking. You need to do better. I can assure you whatever success and you're having now it won't last. They pour lunazole in shots. Didn't taste. Nothing like the the tequila. You can tell good alcohol and they didn't serve it . Overall this was the worst club for drinks and food I have ever seen in my life. read more

Service was very slow, mimosas were not strong at all. Nobody seemed to know what they were doing & the air barely worked.

Shoutout to Munchie for the awesome service. The food was great. The decor and lighting created a nice ambiance. Drinks came right out and orders didn't take long to prepare. read more
