Passing thru town and Yelp had this within walking distance of the grocery store when we suddenly got hungry. It describes itself as buffet style, so we expected to go through a line and get our own food. It is actually cafeteria style, where you choose and they put it on the plate for you. A different experience. No biggie, just FYI. The options are simple; A, B or C, depending on whether you opt for 1,2 or 3 entree items. The prices are very reasonable ($10.95 for the most expensive option), especially for the huge portions they gave- our to-go boxes barely closed! Haven't had this kind of value in a long time. Was out in the area, and started to get some hunger pangs. Did a quick search and found Fing Lam was close by. the staff was super nice, the place was clean, and the food was looking quite good! Ordered a 3 entree plate, with orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, and shrimp with veggies. It came with noodles and fried rice. The portion was Gigantic! The container couldn't close because the food was so abundant. When I got home and started to eat I was really impressed. The food tasted great vegetables were fresh and crisp. Will definitely be going by again!!! read more

I found this place while visiting Indio and was craving some good Chinese food. I'm originally from Southern California and now live in Las Vegas, so I've been lucky to have plenty of great spots to compare to. Unfortunately, this visit really missed the mark. I ordered the orange chicken along with chicken and mushrooms, and my husband ordered the salt and pepper shrimp. At first glance, the plates looked like typical Chinese takeout, but the quality just wasn't there. The moment I took a bite of the fried rice, I could immediately tell something was off. It tasted old, and the flavor reminded me of oil that had been used to fry donuts--or oil that simply should've been changed a long time ago. The chow mein was bland and lacked any real seasoning or depth. I even told my husband, "You really can't mess up Chinese food," but this experience proved me wrong. The salt and pepper shrimp had the most flavor out of everything we ordered, but they only gave four small shrimp, which felt disappointing given the price and portion expectations I'm used to in Vegas and Southern California. I fully admit I'm spoiled by the variety, freshness, and generous portions I get at home, but even with that in mind, the food here felt rushed and low-quality. For me, food is more than just cooking and serving--it's an art and a direct extension of the person making it. Sadly, that care didn't come through during our visit. read more

Very simple place. You pick your desired food option(s) at the counter and they pile them on top of two hearty sides of chow mein noodles and fried rice. The sides fill the to-go container. Then you pick one, two, or three mains that they somehow pack on top of the sides and still can close the container. I had the butter chicken and the orange chicken. Both tasty. My dad had the orange chicken and the sweet and sour pork. Far too much for him to eat at one time. He's pick and liked both. You can take out or eat in. I imagine this is the quality and food volume you *used* to get at panda before they went corporate. read more

I was here 4/29 and the service was outstanding! The worker (older asian lady) was so incredibly sweet. I had my two kids with me to get takeout and she carried my food to the car for me so i could open my doors and get settled. Portions were huge, i got 2x option c (three entrées and a side ) it was around 12$ plus four eggrolls and a large drink. Total was $38 . Tasted great , took me awhile to get to my husbands work were we were going to eat together and chicken was still crispy , food warm. Was a great experience 10/10 read more

First time trying this spot, we wanted something quick, found this place on Yelp, it wasn't to far from the house. Establishment is located in a shopping plaza next to Sears store. Walking in, there was few people sitting and eating, I was able to walk up and order. I got a plate with 3 opting , beef and broccoli, organelle chicken, and chicken and broccoli with any corn glazed with teriyaki sauce. The portions is plenty, you can feed two adults for sure. The food was good no compliments , I would try them again and the prices wasn't bad at all I think it was $12 something. read more

I love these fast food quick to order restaurants. The amount of food that you receive is definitely 5 stars but the food gets 3 stars. I ordered a two combo meal and they packed it to the top, lots of food and enough to share. The taste and quality was okay and the food needed more flavor. Fong Lam has been a part of our family for over 20years. In those 20 years not a lot the has changed. In fact, it looks more or less the same from when I first ate there as a child. The portions have ALWAYS been very generous. And the staff is beyond friendly. The service is prompt. The food is amazing. read more

***Delicious*** Chinese food. Excellent value for your money. They PACK the box with food, so much food that it pops out of the box lol. It's hard to find a good Chinese place in the valley. I came here on a Sat morning as I was craving Chinese food. We are in La Quinta for the weekend and I dropped my husband off at Indian Wells for a day of golfing. I got to the restaurant around 10:40 and ordered a two item combo: chow menu, fried rice and broccoli with beef . I agree with the other writer that the chow mein and fried rice lacked flavor but I'd pick this option (under seasoned/under salted). I fixed this easily with the soy sauce and hot sauce packets that came with the meal. No biggie - it was great and tasted much better. The serving of broccoli with beef was huge. No actually had two meals. The broccoli was perfectly cooked: crunchy, fresh and huge. The beef was tender and I got 6-8 pieces. The meal I received was fine - I think the broccoli and beef was better here than Panda Express. I would certainly come back and recommend if you want a quick, inexpensive, opens early Chinese food option. read more

Food is great. It's why we come all the way to Coachella for it. This time though, service was horrible. The employee that served us had the worst attitude and no respect. I only bought food for my mom. I completely lost my appetite. It's a shame that this great chinese food place hired such a rude person. This is always my first stop for Chinese food! Their service is great. When I go, I will not be there longer than 5 mins. I usually get it to go because the inside needs little work. Now the food is always fresh! Their orange chicken is delicious! I usually get fried rice and chow mein with orange chicken, teriyaki chicken and beef broccoli. They always give BIG portions! For $7.99+, it is a good price! You can even share the plate with someone, that's how big the portion is. Overall, if you are craving some good chinese food and want to get full, this is the place! read more

Chow mein and fried rice is yummy!!! The beef from the broccoli and beef is chewy which sucked. The lady working coughed on my food when she was serving it. They have a fee if you pay with a debit card. The lady that was working did not seem happy. A bit overpriced but they do have a good amount of food. read more

Fong Lam is by far the best Chinese food place in the valley! The portion sizes are huge and everything is always hot and full of flavor. My personal favorites include egg drop soup, the egg rolls, beef and broccoli and their chow mein! The owners are the sweetest people ever and their daughters are supper helpful when ever I'm there ! No other place compares to Fong lam, the food is great and the price is better! read more

A bit later, we get a notice from OpenTable that we did not check in so I called the restaurant the following day to ask them what happened, the nice young lady that answered the phone told us that they were open at the time of our reservation. If they were indeed open, what a turn off to have only two cars in the parking lot, pylons in front and trash stacked on the outdoor table, I can't imagine what the inside would look like or the kitchen.

We were there during the lunch menu which of course is limited but plenty of appealing choices. I ordered Twice cooked pork which though I have made myself I don't recall ever ordering it in a restaurant. My dish was very tasty with plenty of tender pork slices and filling enough I didn't want dessert. My lunch partner had Kung Pao chicken which looked good though I didn't taste, but he thought underwhelming, bland and average at best. If only going by my experience I would have given 5 stars but I have to take into consideration the opinion of my lunch partner for the benefit of anyone reading this review. I would eat there again but not likely anytime soon as it is an unnecessarily long drive when there are plenty of Asian restaurants that I like within my local area. Good but not 60 mile round-trip good.

I came to this location hoping for better service and to give the food a chance. I have been receiving ads relentlessly for the all-you-can-eat service. To my knowledge, there is no other Sushi restaurant in Coachella Valley that offers this. The restaurant is slightly nicer than the Palm Desert location, although the tables have a sticky coating on them that feels like they are permanently dirty. Overall, it looks worn down and cheap but that's not a problem for me. Knowing that they have a separate menu for the all you can eat, we asked for that menu from the start. Just know that you'll have to cross reference the sheet that you fill out to order and the full menu to know what the food items are. This is very cumbersome, as the all-you-can-eat offerings are much less than the ones in the full menu. We were most disappointed that the sashimi is not offered. For $50 per person, this should not be the case. This is where I should've known that this all-you-can-eat menu is specifically designed to fill you up with the cheap stuff. Every single item that we ordered has a ridiculous amount of rice packed into it. There's so much rice that you have to chew for at least a minute and by that time, what you are ingesting is just a ball with the texture of mochi. Extremely dense and gummy. Any flavor coming from the fish is completely erased by the rice vinegar that the rice is seasoned with. As mentioned in other reviews, you must eat all the rice and everything you order or you'll be charged. By the time we were done eating our first roll, we realized that the amount of rice made the all-you-can-eat not worth it. You're better off buying single rolls for cheaper than the price of AYCE. And if you're doing that, there are much better sushi places than this to go to for the same price. I would be amiss if I didn't mention that my gf had bones in her salmon nigiri and hand roll, and was also found in the eel. She also had to eat each piece of these rolls in several bites because the amount of rice is incredible. I also want to be fair and say that this would've been perfectly acceptable flavor-wise if there wasn't so much rice. It just completely overpowers everything once you chew it. We enjoyed their fries, gyoza, and shumai, which are appetizers and are also part of AYCE. But that's not what you should go to a sushi restaurant imo.
