Their food was still very good, and I was lucky to be there before they close for the summer. Recommendations: Garlic cucumber, clear noodle with dressing, spicy combo pot, stir fried lamb, spicy wonton soup, fish with sichuan pickles The only thing I don't recommend is fried eggplant. Many of the items on their menu were "sold out" due to Coachella. They had limited items. Upon arrival there was a very distinct smell. We ordered from their already limited dim sum menu which was suppose to be available until 4 pm per their menu. ( we got there around 2:40 pm) Other parties arrived after us yet they were served their food before us. The service was not great. The food was subpar. They even charged me for food they didn't even deliver. When I expressed I never got the food yet she charged me she tried to get me to pay for someone else's food. I told her that was not my bill. Last time we came in 2020 they were very accommodating for my very pregnant wife and her cravings. Which is why we came back. Unfortunately the service was subpar, the lady was very dismissive and mainly disappearing to the back of the restaurant. We waited for around fifteen minutes for our food and still nothing. BUT the moment another group of people came in after we have been waiting for a while and sat down and made their order not even five minutes later they were being served plates and plates of food and were treated very well. Not cool at all. They were missing one of our orders and my wife let them know and the lady pushed back and said "you didn't order that" after we were very clear from the get-go. As soon as our bill came in they even tried to attempt to charge us for that missing order. My wife let them know and the lady tried to play it off like she had no idea. We were polite and I am a very simple guy and hate writing reviews like this but the service and treatment we received was unacceptable. It's our constant search for good Chinese food in southern California. CIE Sichuan wasn't bad. Very nice, new and clean interior. The service was pleasant and respectfully Chinese. The food was good. Our friend took us here, and honestly, I wasn't sure about it at first since there was only one table when we walked in. I thought maybe we shouldn't eat here, but she said it's worth it, so we just went with it! They've got a pretty big menu, and the service is pretty normal for a Chinese spot, nothing crazy, just a different vibe. I love Sichuan food. We came in for lunch to an almost empty restaurant and were greeted right away by the nice owner. The menu made it difficult to choose what to order because it had pictures of all the dishes, and everything looked delicious in the photos! What we ordered: Garlic ribs: kinda measly, but I did enjoy them with the red pepper dry dip they came with. The dip wasn't spicy, so my spice sensitive husband got to enjoy it as well. Stir-fried beef: A little blander than most Sichuan places I've been to. Stir-fried pork belly: My favorite from our order. Flavorful, and I loved the thin slices of pork belly. Combination fried rice: It was alright. The inside is kind of dark and filled with old school wooden furnitures. But the service was great, and we enjoyed the food. Authentic Chinese deco, in a medium sized dining room. There was one lady running the show. She didn't speak any English, so pointing to the menu worked. I started with the cold noodle appetizer. We ate here for the first time before the John Legend concert at one of the Indio Casinos. The food was very good. Location is 2 blocks or so from the main street where the Court House is. While performing civic duty tasks in Indio, one of my colleagues and I decided to go to lunch at local restaurants and spread the wealth while we were assigned to the area. I was craving Szchuan cuisine, especially since my favorite restaurant in Riverside closed earlier in the year. Luckily, this local gem came up in a Yelp search and we set out to give it a go. After two visits, this is my report. First, parking is very accessible, including street spots. The restaurant has an antique interior with older style furniture and Chinese decor and collections of vases, ceramics, etc. There are dim sum options as well as a wide range of regional cuisine, including many spicy dishes the Szchuan region is known for. My first dish was a spicy number called the griddle cooked chicken, with lots of jalapeños rather than the mouth-numbing peppercorns. Nevertheless, its simplicity is what makes it stand apart from mainstream Chinese food. My buddy tried the Kung Pao, which was freshly prepared, but simple in presentation. Tasty, but not something I'd order in the future. The second visit saw a wider sample of entrees and dim sum options. The dumplings were excellent! I especially liked the house made crispy pork ones. We both enjoyed the steamed dumplings, too, and I was especially impressed with the dipping sauce. Essentially, it was a premixed condiment with soy sauce, black vinegar, hot chili oil, and infused with ginger. Our entrees also impressed, and my spicy pork was light and progressively spicier with each bite. The food is delicious, affordable, and honestly a hidden gem for the Coachella Valley. It's hard to find any dim sum out here without driving all the way toward LA, so we were really excited to see it on the menu. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly, which was perfect since I was on my lunch break. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. The woman who helped us (I think she may be the owner) was kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. You can tell they really care about their customers. This time I had spicy chicken (I think it is called). I said I wanted something "mala" (term for that mouth numbing feel and spicy. This meal did not disappoint. This the first time I had any Chinese food with potatoes. It seems odd at first to have potatoes as that doesn't seem traditional at all. But they were perfect because they absorbed the flavors even more than the chicken. Each potato had that tingly sensation when you chew into them that I love with spicy szechuan food. Finally made the trek to Indio to check out CIE Sichuan. It did not disappoint! Plenty of street parking plus a private parking lot. Cool old building, I like this part of Indio. The Interior is nice, it seems to be set up for Dim Sum with round tables. There are also some booths and that was where they asked us to sit. We ordered hot and sour soup, pork potstickers, and kung pao chicken. The food came out quickly and the service was excellent. We liked all the food. The soup had a nice amount of heat, the potstickers filling was delicious and there was no weird mystery chicken in the Kung Pao. The Yelp reviews that complain about long waits, maybe they caught them on a bad day. Our server was handling five tables and we had terrific service and no waiting. We felt like we were having dinner at someone's house. We also got to shop for jewelry while we were waiting for our food.. It was Easter Sunday. They were very busy, but very gracious and accommodating. The food was delicious the more wonton soup he sizzling chicken block meal and the Kung pow chicken are all very flavorful and portions were perfect. I loved how they served us on China setting. It's a cute little place run by the Chinese owner and her American husband. The husband took her order and was very polite, and I was quite surprised to see someone other than Chinese to order in this very homestyle restaurant and when he told me, his wife was in the kitchen cooking, that's when I understood that this is true if someone's home. Mom and I loved it and to know that the owner was so humble and never mentioned anything was the best part of it. An overall terrible experience and we did not even try their food. They are grossly understaffed and have not training in customer service. We sat ourselves and waited for 23 minutes and no one acknowledged us. I finally went up to someone who appeared to work there and informed them that no one had come to our table. She pretended to not know much English and replied that they were very busy and when we eventually did order it may be 90 minutes before food would come out as they were very busy. We did not stay. There aren't many options for authentic Chinese food in the Coachella Valley. CIE is one of the few and it is delicious. The menu is enormous. They have far more dishes than most of the Chinese restaurants around here. They specialize in dishes from the Sichuan region. The flavors are bold and feature that tongue-numbing Sichuan pepper. I've only ever gone at lunchtime, which is never busy. There aren't many workers here, as it is a family effort. But, the lady who is front of house is amazing. She is good at keeping on top of everyone. The cucumber salad is mindblowing. It is salty and features that spice. Refreshing and decidedly different from anything we have in America. The mapo tofu is exceptional. I order it every time. Szechuan noodle dish is filling and spicy. Basically, everything I've had there is fantastic. Love taking leftovers with me! The one thing that I do not like is their hours. They shut down for periods of time and sometimes aren't open for lunch. The decor is beautiful. The tables have intricately carved bases. While at our home in La Quinta - though we can easily afford any restaurant in the valley - we crave Cie Sishuan and eat there at least 3 times a week. Never enough. I had a craving for Chinese food so my partner and I decided to drive out to Indio and I'm so glad we did. Beef Schezuan noodle soup: 5 stars! Great beef flavor, just enough spice to add a touch of heat to this dish. The noodles are fine (very similar to spagetti) and cooked perfectly. The beef is tender and juicy. One portion is enough for two people to share, and I recommend sharing so you can eat other stuff on the menu! I would order this dish again. Shui Mai: 5 stars Juicy pork and shrimp chopped up and steamed in won ton wrappers. What else is there to say? Great price, perfect portion for an appetizer and I would order this dish again. Egg Foo Young: 5 stars unique take on egg foo young. The pancake is fluffier than usual and filled with plenty of cabbage, onion and egg inside (see photo). It comes with a 5 star pork gravy and one portion is enough for 2-3 people to share. Service: 5 star great service, lovely staff. Clean restaurant and authentic Chinese ambiance.
