Because this is located in a strip mall with a Chinese food restaurant in the middle and constantly rotating business at the end, it's never not busy in this parking lot. Which wouldn't be a problem if: a) there was more space to park b) the average vehicle in this area wasn't an enormous truck or SUV c) the gas pumps at Cumby's weren't on a diagonal in super narrow lanes Every time I've gotten gas here (every.single.time), I've had to sit and wait for a pump to open because giant pick-ups made it impossible to get around them to an open pump. And when I finally did maneuver my car next to a pump, I was immediately blocked in both from the front and back by people who were parking to get their food or gab inside Cumby's causing more - you guessed it - sitting and waiting as they finished. Skip it and head to the one in Lewiston (no, seriously).

As far as convenience stores go, I think Cumbies has come a long way. They are investing in their…read morelocations, and generally hire exceptionally friendly and hard working employees. The Sabattus location is a great example. And if you have your gas purchase taken from checking account using their card, you save 10 cents a gallon. I have still not taken advantage of that feature, but it's there. Also, in the morning the coffee, while not great, is still only 99 cents, even if cups keep getting smaller. Biggest issue with their coffee is they have a seemingly good variety, including one limited time flavor. But I can't tell the difference in taste of any of them...they all taste the same, no matter what flavor you choose, to me anyways. And if you get coffee anytime after noon time, it tastes strong, old and nasty. But they provide an awesome selection of flavorings, have fresh cream and even have those little "stok" caffeine shots to boost your morning a bit. You don't go to Cumbies based on pizza...as it is generally the most bland pizza you can buy. None of their other fresh cooked items look good to me and I question what is used for ingredients...sure they are the cheapest money can buy. The service is refreshing to see employees take such pride in their work. They are very nice, as well....except for the tall female manager...she is abrupt, never smiles and just wants you to buy your shit and get the hell out of there. I will avoid her register every time possible. She makes you feel very unimportant and just an interruption to her day. Good thing the other associates are nothing like her, or I would not go there. Ever. And most prices as in any convenience store are way to expensive, but unlike most, they do offer little sales from time to time, and there are a few reasonably priced items. This is a nice store and I do a fair amount of business here. The parking lot and gas pumps can be a dangerous nightmare when vendors are vending and people get gas and instead of moving car away from pumps so maybe someone else can get gas too, they just leave car at pump and go inside to shop. Many times I drive by and go to Lewiston location when the parking lot becomes a cluster. No matter what or where, I will always choose a Cumbies over any other convenience store. Now let's train the manager some people skills, and this particular location would maybe hit 5 stars!

How do the locations differ? This spot has plenty of parking, a seafood/butcher counter, and a physically larger space. The much wider aisles mean when you stop to read the labels, you won't be in everyone's way! It's cleaner, more well organized, and easier to navigate. Personally, I prefer the original location (the way I preferred the Tontine Mall version of Wild Oats over the Brunswick Landing version; if you're local, you'll know the exact vibe I mean). Something about it feels stuck in time, like it's still 1995; I kind of like the chaos of the too-many-people in a space where there's too-much-stuff; also, the impressive, seemingly dedicated vegan cheese case makes it a destination spot for natural food stores in Maine! But, two things can be true, and this location is also very much needed/wanted!

My one observation is the parking lot isn't necessarily handicap friendly (I'm a DSP, I take folks with disabilities out for community access) there are handicap spots, but it's not ear the access area to safely cross the road in a wheelchair. I hope this is fixed in the future. It's difficult to walk with three people who need supports, behind other vehicles to the crossing section and up the ramp, from the handicap spots. Not impossible, but a little tricky for folks that elope from the group. Just some feedback. They still enjoyed their visit!

What my wife and I split was mostly lettuce with a sparse amount of cherry tomatoes, red onion and little else. Some mild dressing and that's about all it had. Quite tasteless actually, since it was mostly lettuce. The WICKED VEGGIE WRAP wrap that this store used to have consisted of a breaded eggplant slice, plenty of creamy hummus, roasted peppers, red onion, some lettuce and perhaps cheese. Very flavorful. They shouldn't be calling this the SAME thing as what the prior owner named it since it's not at all the same sandwich. This was also way overpriced for what they made for me. The gift store used to have some great items but now their inventory is quite different. Unfortunately, times do change.

The younger staff are great and do their best while some of the older (but newer) staff seem to have a very negative attitude. I recently had an exchange with a woman with grey hair behind the counter during the peak lunch time and she was incredibly rude which seemed unnecessary. This use to be a store where you could walk in, be greeted kindly and talk about local news. Now, it's clear that the ownership prioritizes what's more trendy and high prices over costumer service and friendliness. We also ordered several sandwiches which were incredibly disappointing. We ordered two "hot sandwiches". One that had cold chicken and a warm outside and another that wasn't heated/baked at all. I am hoping it was an off day for all and will try again. I recommend this store for visitors but for those whole live on the island or are seasonal, beware!

They had lots of locally made dairy products including a chive flower butter that went great on those radishes, as well as a mango yogurt that I cannot wait to try! They had the cutest ice cream sandwiches from a local producer, honey, maple syrup in a dozen flavors, and many more great specialty items to make for amazing meals. On top of all that they had a heavenly sandwich menu. Their knack is to take the sandwiches that we all love and make them unique and delicious. For example they make an egg salad with lovage and some special ingredients, their Italians come with a homemade spread with everything from crushed olives to salami, and their turkey sandwich has sour cream and onion potato chips on top which was amazing. If you love bluefish, this is the only place I have ever visited that serves a bluefish sandwich! The owner and staff are delightful and helpful people who are working hard to make this a success.

You'll find them on Main Street down the stairs from where Bay Bowls is located. They should have a little sign pointing you down to their door. We showed up a little later in the day on Sunday and were shocked by the selection they still had available. Tons of sweet and savory pastry options along with many different bread choices too. We did beat quite a large rush of people inside thankfully and just so you know the space is on the smaller side. Related to that they also don't have seats inside so it's more of a grab and go situation. During this visit, my wife and I both grabbed a blueberry lemon scone and a Pain au chocolat. All of their offerings looked so delicious and tempting. A spot you would need to visit a couple times to really sample everything. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and despite a lot of people showing up kept the line moving at a good pace. Prices seemed reasonable compared to other bakeries. The blueberry lemon scones were very tasty but we did both enjoy the Pain au chocolate a little more. Was on the small side but the chocolate used was so rich and the pastry was perfectly flaky and buttery! Definitely a welcome addition to the Freeport area and a bakery I would recommend to those from or visiting the area!

Entrance is on the side street Grove Street 1 way from Main Street but has easy Street parking and a lot behind it. No prices on the pastries. I think they ranged from $6-$8.
