Despite being a smaller sized store, I have to say they carry a pretty decent selection of Mexican food items u can't find in other stores. The selection of produce in particular was good (and priced reasonably) & they had a wide variety of spices that are either prepackaged or in bulk needed to get authentic flavors. Limited staff but the meat and cashier assistance was good for me. I tend to pick up some Manager specials or particular items that are on sale to help me drive "what" I'm going to cook. This time around they had some good tomatillos that were priced well so I grabbed a few things to make some salsa. read more

Extremely impressed! What an impressive array of Mexican and Latin-American products. Luscious, fresh produce including tomatillos and fresh tamarino. OMG. A good selection of queso from Mexico too. The prices here are excellent, staff are helpful and the Mexican music makes you want to dance down the aisles. Arizona has such a laid-back vibe. Even in the grocery store. Who knew!? read more

Many markets have come and gone at this location. Food City has been the strong exception. The atmosphere is a good but small market. Preferable to the giant. I appreciate the cashiers and other personnel. They consistantly are competing with fresh produce. Parking and hours are good. The plaza has a diverse mix. Who doesn't love a supermarket within walking distance of your hotel in Tempe? I happened to find Food City when trying to sort out lunch and other stuff for my time here in Tempe, AZ. Shopping in a supermarket isn't what tourists normally do, unless they're on a budget or just because. Then again, that's basically what I am - budget conscious when it comes to travel, or at least try to be. I found Food City here in Tempe, Arizona, about 2 ish blocks away from my hotel. I needed a few things on two trips here, so I decided to make two pitstops during my week long stay here. For me though, I ended up browsing and purchasing stuff here within 60 minutes. I also purchased lunch here on one fateful visit since I didn't know where else to go and didn't want to uber around just to find a decent spot, so I came to the Food City super market and just ended up getting something from the hot food bar next to the bakery section. Can't go wrong with cheap corn dogs and potato wedges they call fries. For the most part though, shopping here at Food City was a good option for me, since it was within walking distance from my hotel and fairly cheap option when it came to shopping for daily essentials and lunch on a budget. Helped me solve the mystery, where did I buy that pie I ate? The overall experience here at this Food City location was quite typical of what you would find in most supermarkets anywhere these days. Food City is basically a full service supermarket that serves the Tempe area community and helps the residents of the area with their shopping needs. The supermarket itself is staffed with knowledgeable employees, one of which who directed me to a few of them without judgment that I was from out of town. It's pretty cool though. The other staff helped me with my food purchase as well as did a fast check out before I went on my way. I was here on a Thursday afternoon before New Year's Eve 2021. I was glad that it wasn't raining for sure. I had to purchase some detergent, some produce, and some other grocery items, so Food City was a good and convenient choice, instead of ubering to the nearest Costco or Walmart for my needs. Only problem was trucking these things back to my hotel, which was 2 ish blocks away. Thankfully, they weren't too heavy and I was okay. Food City is a godsend, in a way, since it had what I needed without having to really make a trip elsewhere to get it quick and painless. If you are in the area and need stuff for daily use or grocery needs, consider coming to this Tempe area Food City location to take care of business. This Food City supermarket location is located at 12345 N Scottsdale Road in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. It's about 2 -3 blocks from the Hampton Inn hotel and suites as well as the Post 1429 hotel, as well. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash, but I'm sure credit cards always a good thing. Being in the age of COVID-19, face masks should be / are required here. As far as parking goes, there's plenty of parking here to suit your needs. There's also public transportation here, too. Double check on the routes thats appropriate to you to get here as best and conveient for you. Coming here to Food City is a good thing, considering the alternatives. It was close to me and I got a good deal getting the stuff I needed at the time. The cashiers at Food city are so rude, you can clearly see this guy in this picture is stuck on his phone while I'm waiting there for my receipt and the rest of my groceries. The customer before me had to ask him a few times a question before he even acknowledged him because again he was on his phone before he attended me. It's quite obvious they're not training employees correct, or they are not adhering to policy. I never see people on their phones at work. Corporate if you are reading this you need to retrain everybody there, because this is not the first time I've seen cashiers on their phones, and just a fact that he sat there long enough for me to pull out my phone is saying HE'S NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CUSTOMER! This is our local grocer. Default here a lot when we're in a time crunch. Have been going here for the last few years but it has gotten bad over the last year. Employees are very rude for no reason. Today walked up to the cashier, short heavier man in his 30s/40s, and he flicked off his light as soon as we got in the queue. We backed up and got in another line and I made a comment noting he did that on purpose to my partner. He must've overheard as he said he's going to the bathroom. Watched him go to produce and lean on the vegetable display and just stand there until we left. My partner has had racist interactions with him in the past but this is my first time seeing it. Wish there was a self checkout so I could avoid interacting with the employees all together, would make sense since as they obviously don't want to do their job anyway. Cleanliness is a hit of miss. It's very clean when the female manager is working. Today the aisle where the freezers were had backed up water coming up through the floor cover, it looked like waste water. It was a murky brown/gray color and we shared grossed out looks with another customer. Definitely worth the drive to the next closest grocer sometimes. Awful having to brace yourself mentally every time I go in when I'm just trying to get in and get out. read more

First and foremost! This store is very friendly!!! And everyone should be so lucky to have a Food City close by. This is not a SUPER MARKET! it's a FOOD MARKET. What's great about this Market is lots of REAL FOOD, Beans, Rice, Roasted Chiles, Fresh Produce, Dry Pasta, a Deli loaded with hot Mexican Food, Rotisserie Chicken, Cheese, Ice Cream, Beer, Liquor, a Carnisaria (sp) Meat Counter and Great Daily and Weekly specials. Prices on certain items are always great especially the above mentioned items. Prices are regular and/or seldom on special on Name brand Items, and over Packaged and Processed foods. That just keeps things real. OK, I will admit that the produce doesn't always sit long at home, but last week I had some avocados that went south too fast, and they were super quick to exchange them with ease. If you just shop once a week and load up the fridge this might not be the store for you, but if you can hit the daily specials and pick up fresh tortillas a few times a week then why wouldn't you. Over all the store is clean, with great cashiers, department clerks, and baggers. They need more hand baskets and grocery carts but if that's MY only gripe, stop in and grab an armful of fresh food. read more

Here is where I come to buy my pigs feet, tripe, chicken (when it is on sale), cheap. I am Chinese, but we eat the same meats that Mexicans eat, that white people go EEEEUUUWWW, ICK, disgusting! Food City chicken legs and thighs can be as cheap as .59 a lb, but it is not the kind of chicken that is hormone-free and antibiotic-free, that Foster Farms and Sanderson Farms SAY their chicken is. FC produce, when on sale, is cheaper than 99 Cents Store produce which really went up now. Things at 99 Cents Stores that used to be 2 lbs for .99, are now packaged as 1 lb for .99. At Food City, some produce is on sale for 3 lbs for $1 , or melons 2 lbs for $1. I bought Imitation Crab for $1.99 lb but Manager Special Sale, when at regular grocery stores it is $3.99 for 8 oz. I also bought Mexican bakery items, .65 - .99. Too bad Food City is not that close to my house, maybe 6 miles away. read more

Old ABCO Foods location! Store is almost always empty of shoppers which is amazing. It's like a private shopping experience. Most items priced well, with cereal and maybe TP being a little high. Staff have always been helpful. Often only one or two checkouts are open but lines are never bad. No self checkout. Apple Pay accepted, but on occasion their system is down so if you depend on Apple Pay bring a card as a backup. read more

I've been here several times since I moved to the area. I found the store to be clean and organized. They have a wide selection of meats and Hispanic goods. The prices are very good, and having come from Los Angeles, even surprising! The produce section has a good selection and abundance of fresh items. But don't think this place just caters to Hispanics, it has the typical items you would find elsewhere, most of them at or at better prices than your major chain food stores. For instance they have my favorite brand of milk, and ice cream that sometimes is hard to find elsewhere. I was hard pressed to find something I didn't like about the store or my shopping experience. I think if you're the kind of shopper that wants a more personal and interactive experience when you shop at a grocer, this is probably not the place for you. However, if you know what you want at a good price, and want to just shop and go, then this may be the place you've been looking for. read more

This is not a Mexican Grocery store anymore...at least this location, the mexican products were substituted with regular american products that you can find at Frys or Safeway much cheaper. One of the reasons I used to like this place was the variety of Mexican/Latin products, the prices and their produce, always fresh and with very good deals, unfortunately not anymore, the fruits are rotten, and I wonder if the people really is buying and eating those fruit and vegetables. This food City is one of the smaller ones but it's close. I like thier selection of produce and its what I come for most often, especially avocados. It's usually well organized and the lines move quickly. I gave it 3stars because I'm not a fan of thier bakery or food service area. Usually the food is pretty decent in other parts of town and the doughnuts are on point, but here for some reason everything is much smaller and not as fresh yet more expensive. It's a little irritating, but alas I will travel for yummy fresh food. It's a shame really because I'm sure business there would increase if this weren't the case. There is a large parking lot and I've never had an issue with the cashiers. The deli counter workers are nice but I usually only get queso fresco. Feliz shopping! read more

I try not to go here compared to other stores because the produce do not seem as fresh or good-looking. However, I still come because the prices are just so dang cheap for produce. Do not, I say do not eat here!! We ordered a egg, ham & cheese breakfast burrito and it was bad. Tell me why the eggs looked green?! I went up and asked the guy why my eggs green? I was doing a grocery store tour yesterday and went into Food City for some dinnertime inspiration. First of all, it is a bad sign to get out of your car and smell next door's indian food restaurant from halfway across the parking lot. i love indian food but that was gross. This location has a sad sad inventory. The produce looked decent and the store seemed clean except for peeling paint on the walls. The back wall, which in most stores is the Dairy department, was actually a wall of junk food. I guess that's more a sad commentary on society than Food City. The whole store was really chock-full of cheap junky food, and the only inspiration I found was their great mexican food aisles with delicious looking tortillas and everything else you would need to prepare a wonderful mexican dinner. unfortunately i am not cooking in my hotel room so i left empty-handed. read more

I've been on a mad hunt for Horchata. Even though Don Jose's site says that a variety of grocers carry their product, they don't. Not in Scottsdale anyway. However, I finally got the courage to go to this Food City. I've been to Phoenix Food City locations in the past, and they have all been really gross. Dirty floors, awful smells (like feces), rude employees/customers. NOT THIS ONE! The store is clean, and smells like a grocery store should. AND! They have almost an entire refrigerator section dedicated to Horchata. Their cashiers are super friendly, and the customers are nice too. The parking lot is huge, and I've always been able to get a spot practically inside the store. I think Albertson's has a better price for this Horchata, but the only one I've been to that actually carries it is in Phoenix, and it'd still be cheaper at Food City when I calculated the gas it takes to get there. read more

This is the first Food City that I have been to so I cannot really compare it to any other Food Cities. I have always wondered what a Food City was. I always thought it was like a food court like the ones at the mall. Only until my friend told me that a Food City was a grocery store where they sell Mexican goods. Then on, I have always wanted to try it out. I would say that this store is well maintained as there are no trash on the ground. I came here to buy ingredients to make elote. I was able to get cojita cheese from here; it is the cheese that they put in elote. I did read reviews about this location beforehand. Some of the reviews included that the workers were rude and racist. I did not experience any of that in my visit, which is good. The cashier was quite nice as she was doing her job. read more

A bit nicer than just an A-OK. Produce is hit or miss (mostly hit, believe it or not). If you want anything for cooking Mexican food, you'll find it here, and for a cheap-o price. I haven't experienced any issues with cleanliness, unpleasant smells, or rude staff. I get smiles and chit-chat from the cashiers when checking out, and I'm clearly a white girl. I don't come often, however, as their cheese section leaves me longing for Sprouts or Trader Joe's, and apparently cheese is about 1/3 of my diet. :) read more

In Ohio we'd have to order it online or drive to the nearest Peruvian restaurant (in Pittsburgh, about 2 hours each way) and buy it at their high prices. The only reason I go here is for their marinaded skirt steak. They do have a wide assortment of Mexican ingredients and products, but the staff here is so RUDE. The first time I came in to visit the butcher, he took one look at me and told me that he was closed. Said he closed at 7. I walked out of the store empty handed (I only needed a pound of beef for pete sakes), and my watch said 6:50. I swear these people are racist. Bad selection on the booze too. Just tequila. I bought 5 peaches and 3 were bad. I tried to return them with the receipt and the manager lady Oralia looked at me like I was insane. First she palmed the peaches and said 'what's wrong with these? I told her to just look at them and then she said 'you left them in the heat, that's why they are bad. 'No, I did not they were sitting in my fridge. " after giving more dirty look and just standing there holding up the line, she said "you are always doing this but this is the last time I'll do this for you." Keep in mind the peaches were less than $1 total and with the receipt she had to make huge deal out of it and acted like she did me a huge favor?! I will never go back to this store again. They cannot admit their produce is less rotten and sub-par and can't face it up to the customer to offer an apology. read more

I love right around the corner from this Food City. Stopped in here on a whim the other day just to check it out. Wasn't expecting much because the other locations I've been to have not really been impressive. The first time coming in I walked the aisles 3 times just to check it out. Prices are decent, probably about the same as a Frys. The produce and meats look good, and they have a pretty good selection - except for no fresh ground turkey (which I obviously wouldn't have noticed if I didn't need it this particular time). Besides that, I found all that I needed. Relatively clean environment. Especially fun assortment of Mexican pastries and spices. read more

I've never been a Food City shopper, but we recently moved to north Tempe and I can walk to this location. The staff are all very nice and helpful, and you can't beat their produce and meat prices. Sometimes you need to use the produce quickly, but I prefer that over having to wait days for things to ripen at home. They don't have the biggest selection of brands and items, so I don't do all my shopping here, but I'm here at least once a week getting the basics. Oh, and you can get amazing cakes and treats in their bakery for cheaper than most stores! read more

Some still may find this place to be a dump, and yeah...Its no AJ's, that's for sure, but I buy all of my produce here because of the price. Basically, its the same company as AJ's and Basha's, just a lot more grungy! But, I went here last week (3/16/2009) and bought a week's worth of produce for $9.99! Cilantro- 4 for a buck... Red, yellow, orange bell peppers- 69 cents each. (Nice) green leaf lettuce- $1.29. Celery- 69 cents. I could go on, but you get the point! I live in N Scottsdale, and drive to this store and the one on Greenway- They are the two cleanest and closest stores to me.
