I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed this AJ's Fine Foods as I am here often. My husband or I are usually popping in for one thing or another a few times a week. Not only am I addicted to their iced green tea arnold palmers (IYKYK), but it is such a pleasure to shop here for fresh produce, meat, fish, sushi, fresh bakery items, etc... They do great catering and have a solid wine selection too. You pay the price for the premium stuff here, but this is the most high end store around. You won't find better! Parking can sometimes be a challenge pending the time of day of your visit, but otherwise, this place is worth a visit for your (higher end) grocery needs. read more

My daughter and I stopped by this store since we were in the area, and we were pleasantly surprised. It's located in a shopping plaza with plenty of convenient parking. The store has a fresh, open feel that reminded me of Sprouts. Everything was well stocked, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. They offer an impressive selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and many other grocery items. There's also a sushi restaurant inside where you can enjoy Happy Hour specials or sit down and have a meal. In addition, they have a pizza counter where you can purchase pizza by the slice, along with sandwiches, desserts, and drinks. We decided to try their flavored lemonades, and they were absolutely delicious and refreshing. Overall, we had a great experience and definitely wish they had more locations throughout the Valley. This was my first time stopping by this AJ's Fine Foods to grab bread, and overall it was a solid visit with a few odd impressions. The first thing I noticed was the entrance it's positioned on the side of the building facing smaller neighboring businesses. It's a bit unusual and honestly made me second-guess parking and going in at first because the exterior gave off a slightly off vibe. The layout just feels like it could be clearer or more inviting. Inside the bakery section, a very friendly gentleman was going through and tallying up leftover baked goods. I asked what he was doing,( because I'm noisey lol) he explained they were accounting for what was left some items get sold and some get discarded. It did make me think about food waste and how leftover items could potentially be put to better use. I was still able to grab what I came for, and the service overall was good. It also seemed like they were in closing cleanup mode, even though the store was still open, likely due to a slow "happy hour" type period with very few customers. Only real downside for me would be visiting later in the day when it gets dark the exterior and setup don't feel the most comfortable at night. During the day though, I'd return again. I came here specifically to try the $2 giant iced teas they posted on social media. Sadly, I was disappointed. I'm not sure if they just spritz some flavored syrup in the tea, but there wasn't much flavor at all. =( I also asked for "light ice" like I usually do, but the amount that was in them was ridiculous. I'm no rocket scientist, but common knowledge would tell you to put enough in it so that it doesn't all melt as soon as you go out in the hot Arizona sun in the summer? Maybe that's just me, but I just ended up getting more ice from another AJ's location. Anyway, they had some good pre-made sushi, and they even had a sushi bar. I really wanted to like AJ's. It is in an upscale area and calls itself a "fine foods store". When you walk in, there are always nice displays of tasty goodies to explore. The first reason that I don't shop there regularly is because they have very little organic produce. Organic produce is a staple in my diet and it is easier to go somewhere else instead to do all of my shopping. The second reason I was disappointed in this store is because I ordered balloons (2 dozen) to be delivered for my son's birthday party and they screwed up the order!! I wanted each dozen to be separated. They became twisted up in the delivery truck and they couldn't untangle them. They told me they would fix the order and bring it back the following morning. When they came back, they brought two separate bunches of 8 (not 12!) balloons! They graciously refunded our order, but I would not rely on them to get my balloon order correct next time. read more

I love Aj's! Meat, produce, flowers, baked goods, gifts, and hot delicious food to go, are my faves. We were in the area and we stopped for some unique items. On my wish list has always been watermelon radishes. Finally after 3 year I found them. They aren't bitter, they are colorful with a mild taste. Our family loves radishes, but you never know if it is going to be sweet or spicy. These are yummy. Yellow dragon fruit was another fun item we picked up. The location is nice, and had the longest line I had ever seen in their hot food area. Always a breeze checking out. read more

I ordered and paid for a dessert tray last week, to be picked up on Friday @ 12:30. No record of my order & finally gave my husband a tray that hadn't been picked up yet. When he brought it home, I was so disappointed, no fruit tarts on it at all, which in my opinion, make the tray so attractive. My review is speaking solely to the bakery section of AJ's Fine Foods. This is one of my favorite spots in the valley to grab a sweet treat because the quality of the baked goods is so good. This is a busy spot, especially over the lunch hour, so the staff asks customers to grab a number to make sure things move along smoothly and efficiently. The tuxedo cakes, key lime tarts and flourless chocolate cake are my favorite baked goods. Prices are overall reasonably priced with a few items listed at an above average price. They sell items by the slice and by the full cake size. They also brew some of the best iced tea in the area, so make sure to check those out-shout out to the Mango and Passionfruit iced teas. read more

I am so, so disappointed at the AJ's bakery. I expect quality of service and efficiency from this business. I did not receive that from the bakery area. I prepaid for a birthday cake pick up. When I went there to pick up my cake, I was told the cake had not been paid for. What? I had to then provide proof I prepaid for this cake. I was certainly not going to pay $100.00 for this cake. As luck has it, I still had a receipt in my wallet. So, ladies and gentlemen, if you prepay for a cake and or have someone else pick the cake up at AJ's bakery. Have a receipt of proof of payment. I am not happy about this incident. Bad organization and efficiency of service. Shame on the bakery department. read more

We love AJ's. Unfortunately, this is down there with one of our least favorite locations. The line for the bakery/tea is always super long. For some reason they don't use the ticket number service here. Depending on who's working, the staff working behind the counter is either super friendly or borderline mean. The store is always clean and stocked, though. No other complaints. read more

Aj's is top notch! From the coffee, to the cookies. If you are looking for a good ice cream for date night you need to try Jenni's cinnamon roll skillet. It's so good! The service at the coffee/ ice tea counter was efficient. The cookies were so fresh and good. Also need to try the breakfast burritos if you haven't. read more

This review is regarding a cake order that my office received recently. I personally have never been inside the store, so I'm simply reviewing the cake. We have had cake from this location in the past and it was very good. Our most recent order however, was quite disappointing. The order was for a carrot cake and a Pina Colada cake, both 1/2 sheet cakes. The carrot cake appeared to have more frosting than cake, and it was so sweet that I couldn't even eat a small piece. The description of the Pina colada cake states "flavors of pineapple and coconut infused into layers of mousse and white cake.". We're convinced this was a plain white cake with some coconut thrown at the frosting. There was no mousse in this cake at all. And none of us tasted any pineapple or coconut in the cake itself, only the coconut around the outside. I have to wonder if someone oopsed and realized right before it was picked up that it was supposed to be a Pina colada and that's when they added some coconut to the outside. It was also very plain looking other than the coconut around the sides. There was no decoration on top and just very disappointing. I had been very excited for the tropical flavors of pineapple and coconut. There was no taste of the tropics. Overall, quite disappointing. I know the office will order again, and I really hope they get it right next time. read more

On my first visit, this store had me at freshly squeezed orange juice and gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. Now the Sushi bar and pizza station vie for my attention. I enjoy strolling up and down the aisles in search of new and local finds. I appreciate the water station with generously sized cups. Hydration is a must for AZ living. By far my most favorite thing to do is sit outside and savor the items I've purchased inside. read more

I was first introduced to AJ's on the eve of my mother's birthday. I was chatting with a friend about my need to find a birthday cake for my dear mother. Particularly, a German chocolate cake. She quickly recommended AJ's bakery, and added on some tidbits that they have great pizza and iced tea. Lacking logic, I decided to pop by AJ's that very day during what I presume is their busiest time--noon. The bakery doubles as a coffee and tea shop, so it was a bit hectic for a first timer. However, the clerk that assisted me was very friendly and made sure to package up my mother's birthday cake (yes, a German chocolate cake!) with great care. The cake was exceptional. My mother is a bit of a German chocolate cake snob, and she agreed that it was one of the best (if not the best) that she has had. AJ's bakery also had a variety of fun candles, so I bought some of those as well to top off her cake. Overall, this was a pretty great experience and I will definitely be back to AJ's soon! read more

I'm writing a review on the food only since the new remodel. I go in there almost on a daily for iced tea or sushi. But today I went past the deli section and I was shocked! I asked if they got a new chef and they did, thank goodness finally! I rarely ate any of their salads except the tuna because they have huge chunks of green bell peppers in almost everything. They give me heart burn but also that's all you taste with raw green bell peppers. I had a wonderful fresh peach salad with thin slices of onion, tomato and tiny mozzarella balls. It was the perfect summer salad! I also had the chicken shawarma meat balls which had a touch of spice and very flavorful with the tabbouleh salad. So good! I can't wait to go back and try the mini beef Wellington and mini crab cakes. They looked amazing! Finally they stepped up their game being next all the high end restaurants around and global ambassador. The SERVICE still SUCKS though! The manager Heidi I guess her name was treating the cashiers horribly. The cashier tried to call the manager many times and she never came. Both cashiers were trying so hard to help the customers the best they could but the manager never came up to help. When the cashier called again she was yelled at loud enough for me to hear. A very good store. It reminds me of a mixture of Whole Foods and Sprouts. There's a variety of pastries, alcohol, food, etc. I found the place to be very calm and peaceful. Don't waste your time ordering premade food. The difference between this location and the Scottsdale / Lincoln store is 180 Degrees. I'd highly suggest the Lincoln and Scottsdale store for premade food. They are so much better. read more

I've been coming to this AJ's since I was a child and below are a few of my favorite things: *Iced tea - obviously: But avoid decaf as I've found it to be bitter occasionally! *BAGELS & CREAM CHEESE: The best! My favorite morning treat. They load on the cream cheese which makes me so happy. *Deli sandwiches made-to-order: One of the tastiest sandwiches around! They have such an awesome variety and they're HUGE! My husband and I like to split two different sandwiches so that we get to try different flavor profiles. Their corned beef is pretty dreamy! *Their soups are not your average grocery store deli soups; they literally taste like they're made in grandma's kitchen. I love 'em. Chicken noodle is fab when you're sick! *Their meat and seafood: You pay for the premium but it's some of the best in the Valley! Did you know they'll even grill a steak for you at no extra charge? Yep, pretty cool, huh? *CATERING PLATTERS: The spinach dip in a bread bowl is the dreamiest, along with their charcuterie platters. They are massive and gorgeous, decked out with fresh flowers and all. I have ordered these for gatherings countless times and they're always devoured! All in all, I don't typically do regular grocery shopping here because it can be pricey but I do love treating myself to a weekly iced tea and breakfast or lunch! For the first time I had food catered as they call it at AJs for THANKSGIVING. Ordered the beef Wellington and a whole roasted turkey with all the fixings. I have to say I was nervous presenting this to my out of town guests but it was amazing. I promise when I say the Beef Wellington was out of this world, the turkey a close second! I will be ordering again from the catering department!!! Small hiccup in the pick up. Sent my husband with the order number and when he came home he was missing a boneless turkey with all the fixings. We had to go back and there was no argument. They just handed it over. I love getting an iced tea with lemonade for only 1.50. they have plenty of options for quick food, great for getting breakfast or getting a quick dinner when you don't feel like cooking. Seems like every time I go here in the evening the deli closes earlier and earlier. I stopped tonight after work at 5:45 pm to grab some soup and some sliced meat for lunch tomorrow. It was all closed. Plastic was covering all the prepared salads and deli meats. The soup station was empty. They were still selling their hot entree of the day, but that was it. Gentleman behind the counter told me me they close up at 5:30 pm now. Kinda crazy and not very convenient if you work. Went to grab a tea, and they had the flavor I wanted but they couldn't cash me out there as they had closed the cash registers. So had to go wait in a long line to buy my tea. Ugh! I like to visit AJ. So I found this one on the map and they decided to come visit. Real and classy visitors of course(some fake). When I parked in front of building I thought it was a warehouse fir AJ's..... Products and service are as expected. What I didn't like about the store it's four walls you can see nothing outside. It looks like a bunker. Different from two other AJs I've been to in Tucson Arizona and in Meza area. It's like having a pretty person with an ugly dress. Even though I am Bashas' and AJ's customer, I will not be coming back to shop at this place because it's ugly from the outside and a sunlight killer on the inside. Come on guys, work on the esthetics for customers sake. No food appeal in a wear house wanna be place. Very nice story with complete full service departments from bakery to the butcher shop. The staff here is always welcoming, and friendly. The bakery always provides the freshest baked goods made in house. If you looking for a certain item you cannot find at those chains, good chance you will find it here. The store has a great variety of pre made foods that are excellent if you want to avoid cooking. Great store for wines, special variety liquors, cheese, fresh bread and so much more. read more
