For the cake only, or mostly. I did not like the cake. It tasted a little like the cupcakes they have. Dry and not good flavor. The service is quick. They won't define the cake flavors. They want you to just read the cake signs. I asked if they made the cake in house. They told me that they are shipped frozen. Went to butcher with my friend to get some chicken. African American gentlemen helped us - after my friend got his cuts, I asked for mine. Butcher said "next time tell me your order with your friend, so it's faster, you're a waste of my time". I was so shocked by that lol. I had to confirm with my buddy I heard that right. A lot of the same faces over the years of being a local:) The manager has been at this location forever and he always stops to say hi and chat for a second! There is a tall blonde kid and another with glasses that is just very quick with it. Ya know sometimes people lag at the self check out it's quick when they are there. There is a new policy that will NOT work at this location because it's a bunch of asu kids and young adults.... If you think a single file line is going to happen at the check out i would think again... THATS SO ANNOYING try again think outside the bun Safeway. Came in for a couple of things one was Freshpet dog food by the time I got home I noticed it was expired. We called and came back for a replacement . The customer service lady was nice and let us switch it out . But by the time we got back they had not even checked the fresh food section and there was 5 log of expired wet dog food that was over 4 month expired . Bet you guys would love explaining how the food they just bought gave there dog thousands of dollars of vet bills and medicine. Pretty inconsiderate seeing how I even specified the puppy food . Would have given it a 3 if they cared enough about the health and wellbeing of the animals and people that sell food too. And on top of that there was a line at customer service where the customer took forever while other employees where there just chit chatting instead of helping disappointing at the least read more

The only reason this place got 2 stars is because it's close to my house and convenient. There rarely are carts or baskets available. Prices are $1-$2 more expensive than frys on everything. Layout is strange. Carry stranger brands. Bought flowers here and they died within 6 hours. They are price gouging students because they can. I'm not a student. Only redeeming quality is the meat counter. Just a disjointed store all around. read more

Customer service manager Emily is very rude. Went in to make an SRP bill payment with my debit card. Come to find out their system isn't setup for SRP bill payment. She did a refund but now have to wait 24 hours for it to be refunded to my bank account. She was very rude and not at all empathetic. For a customer service manager you think she'd be the example to her employees yet her helper was more apologetic than she was. read more

Going with a 1 Star. Did all my shopping and stood in line for 10 minutes without moving an inch. The lady 2 carts up decided she wanted to review every Vons App special and club discount transaction in the receipt with the checker. This is crazy, and I'm done shopping places like this. It's really just a big scam anyways. To make matters worse, when I walked outside I saw Heather the manager having a smoke. I walked over and let her know and she said "nobody called for a send checker?" I replied no and she apologized. I explained it would take an employee over 30 minutes to return everything in my cart, and explained how foolish it was for them. She said "I'll take care of it!. No offer to assist or help in any other way. As I got in my car and pulled away, Heather was still standing in front of the store "taking care of it". The worst store imaginable, we go to Safeway looking for deals not anymore after waiting over 5 hours for our food order and then another 30 in curbside pickup they substituted half of our order with worse stuff and gave us the smallest chicken in existence for a rotisserie chicken when asking for strip steak we received stew meat that after being cooked is hard as rubber! Their service was insanely bad. I am never going to give my business to any Safeway ever again! Do better and treat your customers right!!! read more

Pay close attention to what you buy here. Bought a bag of washed, ready-to-eat green beans that looked okay from the outside, but turned out to be slimy with several spoiled beans in the middle. Credit customer service with a quick no-questions refund, but still, I had to make a second trip just for that. Bought a bottle of Claude's brisket marinade and only after I got it home did I discover it was labeled 5 months past its sell-by date. Sure, I should have checked in the store, and will from now on, but I guess I didn't expect that a Safeway would be selling expired bottled goods. On top of this they always--always!--seem to be out of grocery carts at the entrance, and you have to go scrounging in the parking lot before you can shop. This supermarket always used to work for me, but now I am not so sure. Maybe they think that since many if not most of their customers are ASU students, they can cut corners? Maybe time to drive another few blocks down Rural to the Fry's? read more

I am so irritated! Lady hardly put any strawberry filling in the middle of my cake I went to the store and specifically ordered this small cake for $20 and requested to have lots of fresh strawberries and gel filling! instead the lady did the opposite and hardly put anything in the middle of the cake. I paid $20 for this very small cake. they had another cake on display with a filling that I did not like so that's why I ordered. I'm mad they did not give me what I paid for. We bought another cake that was pre-made and that has a whole lot of filling inside of it. I really want my money back because we couldn't really eat the cake for our Halloween party because it was too dry and had no flavor inside and tasted crappy I just hate that! This place is terrible. The staff is constantly rude. Went to the bakery today to get a cake and both bakers had their backs turned away from the counter. I kindly asked for a cake and one of the ladies yelled at me without turning around to hold on and she'd be there in a minute. Then when I asked if they had a different cake box, she was apparently annoyed and said no. Then when I went to self-checkout, the lady there was rude as well. As a few of you may have noticed, I only started checking in places recently. I wish I had done so sooner, if only to determine how many times I have visited the Safeway on Broadway. Indeed, there is no place in this great state that I have visited more often, continuing a lifelong tradition of Safeway being my go-to grocery store. If I was still in San Leandro, there'd be the one on East 14th; in Newport Beach, it'd be the Pavilions on West Balboa. When I first moved to Arizona, Safeway was the first establishment I sought out, and for good reason. Luckily for me, there was one just a stone's throw away from my first apartment on Vista Del Cerro. So, in the likely hundreds of times I have made my presence known here, behold the things I like: | 1 | THE WINGS. We begin with the artillery. Although I have yet to pick out what their schedule is for bringing out hot wings, Safeway has round-the-clock chicken wings available throughout the day, just past the rightmost entrance, across from the island of rotisserie chicken, meatloaf, and pot pies. On the days I didn't feel like cooking (which would be most days), I would often grab a box of wings - poundage be damned - and devour shortly thereafter. Definitely shoot for the fresh ones though... it's easy enough to tell which ones have been left to dry. The BBQ and teriyaki wings are my favorite, but do try their buffalo, salt & vinegar, and garlic parmesan if you have the chance. | 2 | THE SANDWICHES. Get there early if you want prompt service; sometimes a line can gather. I think Safeway sandwiches are great. My favorite one is the Italian: a cold sandwich made of mozzarella, pepperoncini, aioli, salami, and prosciutto on sourdough. They have several other options to fit all tastes, along with breakfast sandwiches served until 11 A.M. | 3 | THE DEALS. Have you ever purchased a box of Honey Bunches of Oats for $2.99? You have? Well done. You have not? I hadn't either until I shopped at this particular Safeway. When my girlfriend lived in California, despite her efforts, she could not find a sale comparable to mine! Needless to say, I bought several boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats. All summer long, we could not resist restocking our Safeway Select ice cream, as they were constantly selling it for $2.99 (They still might be, good lord). Sales and sales abound. As is applicable to Vons and Pavilions, Safeway continues to promote fantastic deals and opportunities to save. Just input your phone number at the cash register. Plus, with all those purchases, you can redeem some points at Chevron! Which reminds me: | 4 | THE CHEVRON POINTS. With gas prices already superb in Arizona (I am comparing them to my ex-state of California), knocking a *minimum* of ten cents off your weekly refueling is always fine by me. | 5 | EVERYTHING ELSE. I just like getting stuff from here. Every holiday card I have purchased in these past two years has been from here. Their over-the-counter wares have kept my home pharmacy well-supplied. Produce, snacks, cleaning supplies, pet food, and much more have been acquired here. So long as I am within a 5-mile radius, I'll be shuffling in with my cart. My thanks to Safeway for the continued good service and quality in grocery shopping. I'll probably be back in a couple days to buy another bunch of bananas. 'Til then! read more

After attending the Grand Re-Opening, my view of this store has certainly improved. The experience was great and not just because I got free food samples and a booklet of coupons, though those were good too! The store underwent a seriously facelift inside and has expanded several sections. Now, there is a larger pharmacy section and an expanded liquor section. More exciting, for me, was the fact that they have an expanded organic and local produce section and half of an aisle devoted to gluten-free products. I was also surprised to see the large Starbucks display in the coffee aisle. In my experience, Safeway can't match Sprouts in terms of the quality or price of produce, but it's still good for other items. Overall, I enjoy shopping at this store and appreciate the friendly service. read more

No shopping carts available on a Sunday afternoon. When I asked for a cart, I was told they are in the parking lot.

I tried going here for groceries for a little while and the store was always clean and there was definitely always a lot of eye candy shopping here, but Safeway is kinda pricey... especially compared to the new Walmart Neighborhood Market that just went up down the street, and I've never checked out at this location without having to wait in a line. I also had a bad experience here a few weeks ago. I wanted to run into a place and grab some light beers, and just happened to be driving by Safeway and thought "what the hell?" So I go in, grab a 6-pack of O'Douls (yes... non-alcoholic beer), and as I'm checking out the 5'2 Indian lady behind the counter (I think her name was Betty... something with double-consonants and short) claimed that my ID was fake! I'm a slightly over 6' and had plenty of stubble that day. Betty went on to have me repeat EVERY single line on my driver's license. Even after which she said, "You are not 6', you look around 5'8." This came from a lady who barely came up to my chin. When I told her that was ridiculous she actually made the claim "this is not your ID", from which I started producing my credit card, work id (with photo), and school ID (with photo), which she stared at for 30 seconds while turning over trying to prove they were fake, then grunted and sold me my non-alcoholic beer... all while still acting as if she felt I was some sort of hooligan! When I asked Betty what her problem was, she said that the night before they had been "raided" and her co-workers were given thousands of dollars of fines, and she didn't want to be fined. I understand that sucks, but it is not acceptable to make that interfere with your customer service and make customers feel like escaped prison convicts. read more

This is one of my favorite grocery stores in Tempe! It's always well stocked with groceries and fresh vegetables. The produce section always has nice selection with organic vegetables at reasonable prices. Also note for deeper discount use the Safeway app "Just for U" discount for items Safeway marks down even more for the week. The meat section is also always advertising a sale with "buy one get one or two free" packs of meat that are good quality as well. There is also a sushi bar inside this location with nice selection of rolls. Starbucks inside the store that is now serving breakfast items. I am happy this Safeway is close to me. read more

I can't believe that I have been compelled to review a grocery store of all places but- Came to check out this Safeway after stopping in one in Biltmore... wow what a difference... the fried chicken wings were dryyyyy, more dry than a cactus fart, and so overcooked, that it cuts the roof of your mouth. I feel this location really missed the mark on my most recent visit. I stopped in to pick up a few things. I love Safeway because they always stick the newest, trendiest things and even some hard to find items. I was picking up fruit for my family when I noticed something disgusting! A smashed cockroach on a banana. Seriously, gross! I said something to the manager and he just looked and laughed it off. Wow... okay! On the same trip, my 3 year old daughter tripped over some boxes of canned items that she could not see but were in the aisle. The did hurt herself and began to cry. It was irritating to me because why would someone leave heavy boxes on the floor not visible. Has I tripped over them I could have been seriously hurt as I'm much taller and heavier. It's a basic Safeway that covers most of your general groceries needs. It's currently undergoing renovation as of now but the store's still open. I came to this particular location for some Tylenol, and lucky me that's literally the only aisle that was relocated. For anyone interested in drinking alcohol and health based needs (shampoos, medicines, hair dyes, etc.), you have to walk past the produce, take two sharp turns left, and you're in this ghetto section of the store walled off from everything else. I have no idea what the motivation for this weird section is, but for whatever reason it's there. Good luck finding your way around! read more

I do most of my weekly shoppings here at this Safeway and never had an issue until TODAY. Most of the staff here are kind and friendly except for the cashier JEFF. 10000% would NOT recommend anyone get ringed up by Jeff. I let him know I am shopping for one of my family member as well so I need to do 2 separate transactions. He refused to ring me up for the second transaction and said, "bring that person in the store I'd love to meet them and ring them up". I let him know that we are ALL currently still in a COVID PANDEMIC and it's not safe for some of my high risk family members to leave the house so that's why I'm shopping for them. At the end, I had to load everything back into the cart myself and go to self check out to do the transactions because Jeff here wants me to bring high risk family members into the store to risk their health in order to do a second transaction. I would recommend everyone to avoid Jeff at this Safeway. He is extremely rude, unkind and clearly does not care about the pandemic that's still ongoing. read more

Placed an order yesterday and was told it was out for delivery. On the tracking website it said order was cancelled so it ended up not getting delivered. I called their help line and the order was rescheduled for today and I received it promptly early this morning just after 8am. Three substitutions were made that were all acceptable and two items were missing from the order. I reported the missing items on the Safeway webside and a refund for these items was approved almost immediately. Wnen the order was rescheduled I received no confirmation and no alerts so this process needs to be improved; my first thought was that they had messed up again. I have used Safetway a few times now and am impressed with the care with which my fruits and vegetables are selected. Especially the avocados, they were absolutely perfect this time; ripe but not over ripe. read more

I'm literally shocked!!!.....Just went to your location on Broadway to pick up snacks to hang out with friends, I watched it all happen on the isle next to mine, the cashier was hairy chested, shirt open and sweaty. He was HOSTILE toward a customer and MY CASHIER supported him, they both were RUDE as can be and ALL because he said the produce rang up at the wrong price, I saw it, the guy was nice and friendly until they took his groceries away and asked him to leave. THERE WAS LITERALLY NO REASON AT ALL, this guy did NOTHING AT ALL. read more

You know the cuticle skin that sometimes hurts but still begs you to pull it, thats what going into this store was like, I literally observed a balding angry cashier berate and argue with a customer over a salad bag that he was overcharging for, he rudely asked the guy for proof and the guy showed him on the app, it was at this point the guy kicked the customer out very rudely I might add, I was standing behind the customer and initially the customer asked "are these free" because of a weirdly shelved stack of candy bars, the cashier angrily said "NO" like he was offended. I would highly recommend shopping elsewhere. They have a woman greeting the guests by yelling at them and arguing with them to put on a mask. The mask mandate has been lifted and should not be required. And if an employee is going to say something it should be in a respectful way not degrading and yelling. As others have posted, "this store continues to go down hill". We tried to shop at this store August 4, 2019 @ 8:45am and we found the following. We wanted to purchase "Main ST Bistro", However, we found most of these had use by dates from June and July (about 20 dinners). I guess they want to get someone sick! No excuse for this! They were also out of a few other items and we could not find anyone to help use. After this crap we tried to checkout and they only had one cashier working and the self checkout was not. I told them they needed more cashiers and stop acting like Walmart. Someone finally came out and worked on the self check outs. What a bunch of lazy employees!!!! read more

I have been coming to this Safeway for years only because it's the closest grocery store to where I work... And there's always one consistent thing about this location. They have the absolute slowest, worst, no sense of urgency cashiers I have ever seen in my life. If there was any other grocery store that was even somewhat close by, I would definitely go out of my way just to stay out of this place. These employees need to spend 10 minutes inside a Quik trip and see what real cashiering is about. read more
