I ordered the Croquet Mousier and was disappointed that it came with only one thin piece of ham on the entire sandwich and was mostly bread. A friend ordered a vegetarian flatbread, very skimpy on the vegetables and mostly dough. On a previous occasion I ordered the calzone that had pork belly as one of the highlighted items. I'm giving this place such a low rating due to the prices they charge. The food is technically "good" aka standard .. I'll start with why I like it before I get to why I think it's a rip off. First, this restaurant is owned by the same people who own "Our Daily Bread". At one point Our Daily Bread had great breakfast for a good price. Over time they have raised their prices, even more here at Food Fanatics. For a "one size pizza" that can, if you're hungry be eaten by 1 person.. is $18 - $22. And only two of the options are $18 . Very basic easy to assemble pizzas with... a slightly better option for pizza like prosciutto... although I mean other than that it's not like they are offering organic authentic lobster, crab, etc. for these prices... The Italian app. with Mozzarella, tomato, basil, and balsamic is a whopping $13-$14 bucks, with what is seemingly one whole tomato and 4 slices of okay slice mozzarella, and 4 basil leaves... The Luca salad is the same thing but $15 because they add prosciutto. Now this is okay if you're looking to eat virtually nothing and ball on a budget... Then you have the option of ordering the vegetarian salad for $12 and the choice to add protein starting at about $7 for chicken and higher for shrimp, prosciutto or beef tips. Finally ... can we get back to the prices of the one size fits all pizza for over $18?! If you're looking for a quality pizza to satisfy you can easily get a small or medium pizza from Leonore's for the same or lessor price.. Additionally, this restaurant has a great drink menu. I've ordered the Blueberry Lavender Margarita and it is $12. In all, to recap, this place unfortunately receives a 2 out of 5 because of what I perceive as a blatant price gouge for ordinary restaurant items that they may find justified for outdoor seating and drink options. Phenomenal!!!!! Service is a little slow which can be improved with training but you cannot beat the food. All of the soups were perfectly seasoned and served hot and fresh. The tomato bisque was well above par. The triple B burger was a very pleasant surprise. You wouldn't think that those items would meld together so well, but it was so good I was almost tempted to order another. The crab cake burger was also very delicious. I had the seven cheese Mac and Cheese and added bacon and I was very happy. Tim was an excellent server making sure our drinks and needs were met while we were here. So food-wise this place could really get 4 stars. Each dish was carefully made and plated, it was delicious. I am a vegetarian and was able to find multiple options. My significant other got the infamous Bacon on Bacon and loved it. Another party member got the award winning Mac & Cheese but with chicken instead of bacon and was happy. I got the Paneer Bhurji pizza. Very cool fusion of pizza and paneer - it worked very well. The "A-OK" comes from the atmosphere and service. Our server was friendly and kind but wasn't very attentive and wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu items. Got a lot of "I don't know!" answers which would be fine, but maybe could have used a "let me find out for you" follow-up. The restaurant itself was very casual for the price point. Not a done of decor, lots of booths and tables. It was also VERY loud in the restaurant. I'm not sure if it was the acoustics of the place or the other patrons were just super loud but it was difficult to hear one another speak. There were also lots of children running around the restaurant, sometimes nearly running into our table. Normal things for a casual dining place, but the prices of the menu items are a little high for that kind of ambiance. This place is pretty new, so maybe it will get better with decor and the aforementioned issues as time goes on. I'm glad something good moved into this space because it's a great building! read more

The sandwich barely had any turkey on it. It was so little that we had to ask the waitress if we could have enough to cover the bread. It was dry and flavorless. There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived at the lunch hour which should have been a clue. They have updated their mask wearing, not all servers have masks on. When eating at the restaurant they have contactless menus, which is nice. They have great take away food, packaged well, with an easy curbside service. The process of ordering is easy and simply call when there for pick up. Not sure how that may change with more dining at the restaurant. The charcuterie is weird. The blueberry chutney was more a jam, the meats and cheeses seemed like they were sliced at a grocery store deli. The pickled vegetables were nice, but nothing really seemed to pair together. The meatballs and their pasta dishes seem to be where their comfort is. The meatballs are moist, filled with flavor and a nice size. I had the great pleasure of dining here last night with my buddy Mack! This is a great, local restaurant and favorite of the neighborhood. Right around the corner from a bed and breakfast. So many great options it's hard to choose but our host "J" (sorry as it takes me a few times to get names) was awesome! Not only was he super helpful with the menu, all of his recommendations were on point, and he had an amazing personality! We started with "Bacon on Bacon" which is bacon wrapped pork belly with a delicious balsamic. My buddy had Fettuccine Carbonara with chicken added... great portion...scrumptious! I had the very delicious Bison and Smoked Sausage wood fired pizza... so crispy and so yummy! This place hosts a full bar and we each enjoyed a beverage along with some water. Perfect amount of attentiveness from our host and we closed with a lemon tart and a slice of opera cake. Do yourself a favor... DON'T SLEEP ON THIS PLACE!! Made a reservation here for Mother's Day and when we walked in the hostess said they didn't have any tables available. She never asked for my name so I'm assuming they don't keep track of their reservations. Eventually she sat us at a table outside and brought us water but there was a fly in my mom's water. The poor waitress was clearly overwhelmed and she tried but it was obvious she just had too many tables. The kitchen lost our order and it took an hour and a half to come out. I ordered the bison hash and my mom ordered the salmon benedict and neither dish was edible when it finally came out. Mine smelled bad the moment it hit the table and my mom's was overcooked to the point of being too hard to chew. They took our entrees off the bill without us even asking so I guess they already knew no one should pay for that food. This experience was so bad that it was almost funny, except that we left hungry and since it was Mother's Day everywhere else was packed. Won't be back! read more

I placed my online order at 10:50 AM to be picked up at 11:20 AM. When I arrived at 11:23 AM they had not yet received my online (paid with tip) order in their system. I asked how long it would take to have it made. I was told 5 minutes (unrealistic). At 11:56 AM I was still waiting for my order. It came out at 12:01 PM (incorrect). I waited for the OWNER to come out for over 20 minutes. It was not a priority for him. I had to wait another 7 minutes to void my order so I could leave (since I prepaid with tip). The quality of the to-go order is substantially different than the in-person order. The server that was taking care of this order did everything they could. The ticket didn't print initially. When I arrived and they realized the issue they reset the WiFi and it came up. In the meantime the server had to use google translate to have the kitchen get the order. They got it wrong twice. I asked for a refund. They threw the food in the trash and said it SHOULD go back into my card. Poor management. Poor business ethics. Food waste concerns... Won't be back to my favorite place when returning home to the Roanoke Valley... read more

Very little bleu cheese and the blueberries were overwhelming. The fries were very good. There is an outdoor section but it's a bit bleak. No plants or anything to make it look nice. The caprese salad appetizer didn't not have ripe or tasty tomatoes - but it's early season yet - however, the mozzarella, balsamic and pesto finishes with the fresh basil and arugula made up for it! When the restaurant opened we loved the food and service. Last Friday we went for dinner at 6:30 pm and no one was seated. That was my first "Oh no what's going on here?" So we sat and reviewed the menu. We got a drink and ordered the burratta. It said with croutons and she said no it's with crostinis. It was ok but didn't have a lot of flavor. We then ordered a pizza extra crispy with arugula on it. The pizza came and was barely cooked. When we mentioned it to the waitress she said would you like it put back in the oven? I said how can you do that already sliced and arugula on top? Not once did she offer a new pizza or take it off the bill or a desert or anything. We got the impression she didn't care what we thought. We would have stayed and had another drink if they offered to make a new pizza but they didn't so we left. This place is super solid. The food was incredible. I ordered fettuccine vodka and added grilled chicken, and my husband ordered the beef tip salad. The food is a bit expensive, but the portions are large, and again, it tasted wonderful. Only issue was that their radio station played too much John Mayer (that mans is problematic), but that isn't their fault of course, so we were still thoroughly impressed. But there was no quality or substance to it with the canned pimentos; not fresh. When kitchen left off the kalamata olives, the kitchen sent halved green cocktail olives instead. Completely missed that wonderful combination of flavor of feta cheese, briny olives and acidic dressing. Recommend teaching staff the difference of olives. Off the beaten track from downtown Roanoke, but easy to access and a LOT of parking- a novelty in Roanoke! Very eclectic menu. All items made and prepared as you order. Had Beets and Arugala salad and vegetarian Antipasti and both were delicious, good tastes and pleasant preparations. For main dishes we had Indian sag paneer pizza, and I had a mushroom Swiss burger. Pizza was a very unique combo of complex tastes, one of said almost contrasting. But the two who ate it enjoyed it. My burger was delicious, with nice twice-crisped fries. Bun was a multi-seed brioche and the pickles were two big dill slices on top of fresh tomato and lettuce and carmelized onions.
