And, it looks like they pump out some solid menu options all day long with a juice menu, sushi spot, and lunch specials. Only gripe is their hours and how they cook some of their dishes. I noticed a microwave behind the counter and I am not happy when I see that at a food establishment. I guess to make their food in a hurry they use the microwave to cook or "re-heat" some of their food... not good in my eyes. I love this place. Its perfect for grabbing a HEALTHY sandwich on the go. You also have starbucks to your left and froyo to your right in the same plaza. My all time fav sandwich is the "food for life" sandwich, with warm thinly cut chicken breast, lettuce, tomatoes, herb mayo and... apples! The crunchy apples really tie the whole thing together, and it is absolutely delicious. They have a pretty decent shelf full of "healthier" chips, sushi on the other side of the store, drink and teas and coffee, etc! For a quick healthy meal/ juice/ salad. It a good place. I wouldn't really say they use all the best produce. Its typical bodega food. but displayed in a cleaner, fancier way. Super overpriced for what your getting. They charge extra for everything. I got cold cut subs there. messed up my order twice. Once when I asked for spinach instead of lettuce and another time when I asked for the roll to be scooped out... I've also tired their fresh juice. Choices are limited and also overpriced. Food for Life used to be my lunch spot when I was in high school. The A.B.L.T with brie cheese (you have to ask for it) is seriously heavenly. I mean a BLT is amazing on it's own but add avocado and brie and you've got a winner. The rest of the sandwiches I've tried haven't lived up, but I do like their chicken salad triple decker with bacon when I'm feeling really white. The sushi is OK but usually a little too cold for my liking. They used to have some great shumai in the sushi section that I would take home and microwave but they haven't had them in years, which bums me out. Had the second bad experience with the staff. Being ignored is one of my top of the line pet peeves with any establishment I step into. After standing being ignored, while, others were acknowledged coming into Food For life after me, I was finally waited on. There were two females, plus the grill man behind the counter. The Grill man prepped and completed my order, and sat it next to one of the females to hand it over it over to me. One female was on the phone, the other working the register, she looked at my order, not once but twice, she then proceeded to walk from behind the counter to sit at a table and chat with a customer! My order is ready I stood there waiting for somebody to hand me my order, it did not happen. I then walked over and asked the grill man if that was my order, he shook his head yes, looked over at the female who left from behind the counter to chat up the customer, shook his head, as if to say, " Why are you sitting there, when a customer is waiting for their order which is ready to go"?? The grill man stopped what he was doing handed me my order with an apology. I have been in this Deli more times then I can count each time I go in Food For Life, the treatment I receive, borders very close to racist, I have noticed it not only in how I am treated but with other people of color as well! This place is very good - fresh food, inventive combos. However, they are quite expensive. I don't mind spending a bit more for a good sandwich/sushi roll but their prepackaged fruit/chips/bars are really expensive! Also, one time I wanted to use my credit card to pay for a purchase that was under $10 and they refused. That is against CC regulations - you cannot put limits on the amount of a transaction (I could have called Amex and had their account suspended/blacklisted but I"m not that mean). Usually that would be enough for me never to visit an establishment again, but I'll make an exception for Food for Life and still visit, albeit far less frequently (once every few months rather than a few times a week). read more

They even have a section towards your right as soon as you walk in with many choices of organic, sugar free juices, fresh cut fruit and things like vegan cookies.
