This spot is still so good! Love that they're right in Highland Park. The white lily cake is still such a star here and it's perfectly not too sweet! Staff is super nice here too, we caught them on a baking day and they still let us grab some goodies. The inside is super cute. I definitely need to come here regularly. read more

I am genuinely upset that it took me so long to try this place and their incredible White Lily cake!! To be fair, they're only open Wednesday through Saturday 9:30-2:30 so it can be tough to fit into your schedule but it's worth the effort! We went yesterday and got a few things to share. Everything was delightful but we agreed our favorite sweet item was the White Lily cake slice (it was so lovely and lightly sweet!) and our favorite savory item was the ham and cheese sliders. I also really enjoyed the breakfast bake and the blackberry raspberry coffee cake. The bakery is on the smaller side with only a few small tables but it was empty when we went on Wednesday around noon. It's a cute little spot and the staff was friendly and patient as we picked out our treats. Definitely put this place on your to go list if you haven't been already! read more

I have always loved this spot. Pre-pandemic I would go every Friday after work on my way home to get treats for the whole family and it was so fun to pick things out and the gals that worked the counter were THE BEST. The hours are harder now than pre-Covid, but we got to go the other day and it is just as delusions. The folks behind the counter were new, but super sweet and helpful. Honestly, how could anyone be grumpy in a bakery?! My kids each had a pepperoni roll and there were fresh and delicious and then we got an assortment. The younger kid housed the Apple strudel and immediately asked if we could get another one, ha! I have never been disappointed there and love their savory treats just as much as the sweet ones. Gotta admit this is one of my favorite bakeries in Pittsburgh. Located right in the heart of Highland Park, this bakery is easily accessible by bus, car, or on foot. You can smell the delicious baked goods before you even walk in, making your taste buds dance right away. I've been there a few times now and they have varying baked goods, but a lot consistent ones also. The first time I went I got the cannoli, lemon bar, and a buckeye to split with some friends Oh my they were DELICIOUS!! Next time I went I got a cinnamon roll because I herd they were legendary....and they so were! I studied for the first time in there a few weeks ago and it was okay. **Had to update because it's been a while... Can I give a business 6/5 stars? Because I TOTALLY would for this place. I am obsessed. Being that Food Glorious Food is just a ten minute drive from my work, it's a miracle I'm not here everyday. The warmth you feel when you walk into the bakery, the fact that there are no prices or name cards on the food items, the cozy warm decor- all these little details make you feel like you are at a family member's home, rather than a bakery. Every time I go, I buy multiple items and it's really hard to contain myself. This most recent visit, I purchased: a slice of key lime pie (my FAVORITE in the world), three cupcakes for a friend's birthday (lemon basil- OUT OF THIS WORLD, blackberry- absolutely incredible, and raspberry chocolate hazelnut- basically raspberry and nutella, it was so delicious), two ham & cheese sandwiches (heated them up for breakfast the next morning- so incredibly delicious), a chocolate chip cookie (for Brendan- he loved it), some baked potato cheesy goodness (it had a cheese sauce that was insanely good, bacon, asparagus.. so good), and a tray of unbaked cinnamon rolls! Why would I buy unbaked cinnamon rolls? Their cinnamon rolls are the BEST I have ever had. They had some at the store, but they run out quick. If that ever happens when you visit, and you don't mind buying four at a time and making them at home, it's totally worth it. One of the owners was kind enough to write the directions onto the box and I was able to make them this past Sunday morning for breakfast with my family. They turned out perfect, and were incredible. This is hands down my favorite bakery in the world and one of my favorite foodie places to go to, period. I am obsessed. P.S. I visited Food Glorious Food the Sat. before last at around 10:30am. I was waiting to be seated for brunch at E2 next door with some friends, and one of them suggested that we swing by the bakery next door. This reminded me that that bakery was Food Glorious Food, which I'd been meaning to check out for a long while, so I eagerly agreed and we headed next door. Having read the previous Yelp reviews, I knew that the cinnamon roll was a popular item. Give that I'm always on the hunt for good cinnamon rolls--of which there seem to be precious few in PGH--I got one of them ($2) as well as a chocolate chip cookie ($2), which the guy working the counter told me was another popular seller. I had the cinnamon roll later that day, and it was pretty good, although not the best I've had in PGH. It had a decent amount of both cinnamon and icing, and the dough was soft and pliable. I tried the cookie the next day, and it was quite delicious--possibly the best one I've had to date in PGH. It was a decent size and has a decent balance between crispness and softness. Most importantly, however, it had copious chocolate chips that melted in my mouth, which (for me) is an essential component of a legit chocolate chip cookie. Based on the goods I sampled, I'd rank Food Glorious Food within the upper quartile of PGH bakeries. Unfortunately, I'm leaving PGH soon, but if I wasn't, I'd definitely love to stop by again to sample their key lime pie, as I'm a big fan of that dessert. 4.5 stars. read more

Every so often, I hear rumblings about how great this bakery is. Highland Park is a bit out of my way, but after leaving the zoo, it seemed like the perfect time to test this place out. My friend and I came in around 3:30 on a Saturday, and they had clearly been busy all day. There really was not much left. I ordered a cheesecake brownie ($2), and she got two key-lime macarons ($2.25). We both enjoyed our desserts, and while they were far above average, they were not THE best. However, the people in Highland Park are spoiled because they were quite good. I suspect you need to get here at opening to try the popular items. Stopped over here after lunch to grab a dessert. Most of the desserts I have seen before but they had a few different ones for me to try. They are a bakery but they only sell desserts, wedding cakes, and various quiches. I purchased a spinach and mushroom quiche to take home with me for my next day's lunch. It must have been popular-it smelled so good when I got it home. Can't wait to taste it! I'm sure I'm going to love it. They had small whole pies along with what they call a great chocolate chip cookie. I bought that for my daughter and got a nice slice of apple streusel. The crust on that thing was flaky and soft. They do give you generous portions for the price you pay. They do offer a nice assortment of desserts. I decided to try something a little different while I was there which was called a signature white lily cake. I later learned they use this same batter for wedding cakes. I had it and found that it was not too rich but light enough for me to enjoy after a heavy meal. They have a small sitting area in front if you wish to eat it there. Some of the desserts require refrigeration. Others don't but make sure you wrap them if you intend to eat them later. Since I had arrived later in the day the breakfast pastries were gone but I'm sure if I return at an earlier time of day they would be worth a try. Street parking is available. After having had Food Glorious Food cake at someone else's wedding, I knew this cake would be showing up at our wedding. The cake was fantastic - the white lily cake layers and the carrot cake. The team made up a fantastic naked cake with a light crumb coat of whipped cream icing and enough sheet cakes for the entire lot of 100 guests. They even improvised a little botanical cake topper and acquired greens separately for decorating. It was really, really lovely. And absolutely delicious as well. Man, was it tasty. Wedding reviews will tell you that communication with FGF can be a bit unpredictable, and that was true in our case as well. My sister and I were walking her dog when she told me about the cinnamon rolls at Food Glorious Food. She said that they were incredible but that they sold out really quickly after the store opened. We happened to walk past the store at 10:15 AM (the store opened at 10 that day), so we decided to try our luck. We arrived just in time, and we managed to snag the very last cinnamon roll (at least at the moment; maybe they make more later, but I'm not sure). We also got three macarons: one blue velvet, one PB&J, and one salted caramel. All of these items totaled to $9, which I think it a pretty good deal. The cinnamon roll was outstanding. It was soft, buttery, and perfectly sweet. All of the macarons were top notch too. They had thin, crispy shells with a chewy inside and subtle but still very recognizable (and tasty) fillings. My husband has picked up goodies here on a few different occasions recently, and I'm so happy that this bakery is now on my radar. I may have found a new favorite in their huge, chewy chocolate chip cookie. Their cupcakes are moist, flavorful, and topped with a light whipped frosting that isn't too sickly sweet. My delicious local bakery. I stop every now and then on my way home just for a chocolate chip cookie because they are so good. Crispy/chewy edges and nice soft middle, with huge chocolate chips. I like pretty much everything I've tried here. Their lemon tart is really good with a strong lemon flavor. The ham sandwiches are amazing. Ham and cheese in a soft bun with onions and poppy seeds. Mmmm. I love their Derby pie, especially around Derby season, though it's good all the time. Their pumpkin roll slices are huge and can definitely be cut into 2-4 little slices. Their white lily cake is moist and the raspberries are fresh. I like the tulip: a chocolate bowl filled with mousse, cake and fruit. The cheesecake brownies are covered in a super rich chocolate ganache that I love. The macarons are all right. I think the cookie is a little crispier than it should be so kind of breaks apart, but the flavors are good. I also wish they had labels with each dessert. I recognize things I've gotten before but still feel like I need to ask the person what things are all the time. They have a little chalkboard with a list of things but it's not right near the case so it doesn't help a ton. I like that you can see them working and making things in the back, and it always smells delicious from things baking. It feels like a bakery, and not just a place that sells baked goods. You can eat there, though they don't have many tables, or take your order to go. They have limited days they are open, which is a bummer. I have never had the compulsion to write a Yelp review before, as my tolerance level is high, but my experience was inexcusable. I have ordered every birthday cake in my family from this establishment since before the current owners purchased the store from the previous owners. Twice, in this one week, I have called and been told that they couldn't make me a birthday cake for my husband simply by leaving out two ingredients: walnuts and raisins. The first time was understandable--they were closed and weren't able to make me the cake (even though they made an exception and made it for me on a closed day last year. But the second time I called back, I was simply told "no" and that I "didn't understand their processes well enough." When I asked for the woman to explain the processes to me, she hung up on me! I wasn't being rude, but I was being persistent, because it didn't make sense. When I called back and sked for the owner, I received a lot of the same, but a lot of shouting at me as well. In addition, he blamed COVID for the inability to make single carrot cake, but with the next breath he said that if it had been another cake, he would have been able. I tried to explain, as I did with the TWO customer service people before him, that I had been buying every birthday cake the exact same way for nearly ten years, and that all I was trying to do was understand WHY leaving out two ingredients caused problems (I had previously even offered to pay DOUBLE for the cake!)--but by then, he had taken the same tack as his precious person--and hung up on me. If you're reading this, Food Glorious Food, I will never, ever recommend you to the hundreds of people I do each year, and instead, I will discourage them from buying from you, and I certainly will never purchase from you either. If you must blame COVID for your food offerings, that's one thing, but when someone is simply asking questions to understand, COVID is not to blame for your lack of manners and poor customer service. You've just lost a customer for life, and I'll make it my mission to discourage others from purchasing from you in the future as well. I sincerely hope it was worth it to you. read more

It's truly very hard for me to drive anywhere around or through highland park without stopping and making to get something delicious from these folks. What a,perfect,name for this place! I needed something sweet, and as I was riding up the street on my bike, this looked like a great place for a quick snack. Small, but nice, with tables out front. Right beside E2 an eatery I need to try sometime soon. I had an apple strudel that was very well done, and just right. BUT! The best thing I had was this amazing home made Nutella pop tart!!!!! It was incredible! I could have eaten a few of them! Such a simple idea, and yet it was amazing! I sat out front, relaxed, and enjoyed a little break. I will be back! Service was good even though the place was very busy with a bunch of seemed to be hung over patrons taking up all the room at the counter. Great place. Easily the best in the city. Open on Saturday from 10am till sold out and there will usually be a line out the door. They will also take orders for things during the week but in whole sizes only (not slices, etc). They sell fresh eggs from their farm and supplies for making fresh mozzarella, etc. Cooking classes are available and i have taken a couple, one with my daughter at the farm and it was worth every penny.
