Some of the most efficient and kind folks! So helpful and always with a smile on their face. Can get pretty busy and crowded. But very clean and organized. Food was not bad but not great. Kinda of disappointed in the price of the salmon and lox, $23 is a bit more than id like to be spending on what I actually received. It wasn't bad but just not worth the price. However, the pozole is one of the best soups I've had. Has a bit of the max and ermas tortilla soup nostalgic taste, if that's your vibe, definitely try this. This place is so cute! We came for lunch on a Friday, and this place was bustling. Their interior decor was so good that it made me want to linger longer. I love that in addition to being a cafe, they also have a grocery section where they feature local businesses. I tried their fried fish platter and haluksi. Both were decent but not good enough that I would come back for. They have a pretty good selection of food, so I'll definitely come back and try something else. Even though this was a cafe style where you grab your own tap water, and you get a number when you order, service was actually pretty good. I've been to Local Provisions a few times. The food is a little overpriced, but good. Today, I ordered a sandwich, which was good and an Old Thunder beer, which pretty bad. I told one of the waiters that this beer should not be sold to anyone else. It irritates me that I paid 11.00 dollars for a lousy tasting beverage. I doubt I will be back. read more

Absolutely excellent lunch there the other day. Such an unassuming place in a strip shopping center. The ambiance is market/casual (industrial-chic-ish)lunch spot. We grabbed a few (fairly pricey - but not crazy) frozen meals for dinners this week - some DiAnoia's pizza dough and sauce and a lasagna. But the main reason we were there as for lunch. Service was nothing special. You order at the bar, pay for your items, and then take a seat with a number on a metal stand. Really takes the personal service out of it, but maybe that's not something this establishment is worried about. I had a veggie sandwich strangely named "Hotlicks." Really very good! The lemon-thyme hummus was chunky with cucumbers, and the sprouts and Kalamata olives, red onions, and Muenster brought a lot of flavor. I was most struck by grain bread from Mediterra. Perfectly toasted and incredible fresh and flavorful. Some of the best sandwich bread I've had in a looong time. My husband had the more appropriately named Smoked Turkey Breast sandwich. SO full of flavor (it really outshone my veggie sandwich, though I loved my choice!). Candied, bacon, poached, apples, Cranberry aïoli - what's not to love?? Excellent lunch. Kinda bummed the sandwiches didn't come with a little side of chips or potato salad or coleslaw or something, but it was a really good lunch just the same. Lots of cute options in the market for gifts -- Easter items, cookbooks, food items galore, on and on. Really like this place a lot. Wish we had one in Edgewood! read more

It has an open atmosphere and therefore the noise level is higher than a sit down restaurant. But that is not a deterrent. Pricing is reasonable. read more

I am a repeat customer at Local Provisions and have always enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and consistently warm service. Unfortunately, my experience today was markedly different. My friend and I ordered food and beverages, sat down, and began eating. We had been there for less than an hour when, after finishing most of our meals, we took out our laptops to study while my friend was still drinking her iced tea and I was taking a break from my noodles. A staff member approached the table next to us to clean it, then turned to us and, in a noticeably passive-aggressive tone, said, "Girls, there is a line of people who want to sit down to eat, so we're going to need this table soon." I was taken aback. I pointed to my food--which was still in front of me--and my friend's beverage, and explained that I was still eating. She walked away without further acknowledgment. What made the interaction even more confusing was that a nearby four-top opened up shortly after and remained empty for at least 15-20 minutes, with additional tables becoming available shortly after. This was especially upsetting because my friend joined me from school for fall break (her first trip to Pittsburgh), and we are both professional graduate level students who were quiet and not disrupting anyone. There was no signage indicating restrictions on laptop use or time limits for seating. Right before leaving, I approached the staff member respectfully to explain that I did not appreciate the way we were spoken to and treated. She did apologize, though initially attempted to interrupt and reiterate that "people were waiting." At that point, I did not find it worthwhile to note the flaw in her justification, since multiple tables opened up and remained empty around us for a significant amount of time. My goal in saying something was to create awareness about how the interaction came across and how it made us feel as customers. This experience left me feeling unwelcome in a place where I have always previously felt comfortable. Although I've had many positive experiences here, this encounter was disappointing enough that I don't plan to return in the near future. read more

The Spoon Burger (smash burger) was perfectly cooked -- juicy, flavorful, and full of that crispy edge you hope for with a Dijon dressing. The French dip was just as good, tender beef with rich au jus and a fresh, soft roll. Plus a side salad with a honey balsamic dressing. This is a store with a cafe front is packaged goods including local ice cream and some frozen entrees. There is a center ordering counter surrounded by tables and a couple of booths in the back looks very inviting came in for some lunch The sandwiches might be tasty but I decided to just get myself a cinnamon bun and some ice tea so much ice in the tea it was ice with some tea I should have known when the person who took my order asked" if my bun was to go?" told me the bun would taste better heated. Sadly the bun was almost hard as a rock see the pic it even looked old. oh well the folks eating there looked happy enough I wonder if I said I was staying would they have offered to heat the bun? I don't dole out 1 star that often but seriously selling me a clearly stale bun was not nice. read more

Very impressed with Local Provisions. The store is tucked in a strip mall, but the store itself definitely doesn't have a strip mall feel. We decided to come here and try their brunch menu. You order at the cashiers station, get a number and they bring the food to you. We shared the breakfast flatbread and donut holes. Both were top notch. The flatbread was delicious. Every ingredient stood out - from the sausage to the Boursin cheese. The crust was nice and crispy. The donut holes were made to order and came out hot. They reminded me of the zeppoli from DiAnoia's, but might have actually been a tad better. Hot, soft with a little crunch, and flavorful. Prices weren't awful. The flatbread was $17 but could be shared by 2 people. I will definitely be back to try some other things. read more

I want to love this place so much! The concept is perfect and the dishes I have had were great, but they continue to lose me by not paying attention to dietary restrictions. I always have to call to ask about ingredients... which prompted them to start including them on the online menu, but they still seem to miss the point by not including all the ingredients that need to be shared. Today I called to confirm if the butternut squash soup had chicken stock. She checked in the kitchen and YES! It does have it... I LOVE this place, it's one I have to stop at any time I'm in Pittsburgh! Their chicken parm is the best I've ever had, surpassing all Italian restaurants I've been. My husband and I were heading home from seeing our accountant when I saw this place and knew I had to check it out. The front is primarily a specialty gourmet market with known brands from around the city. As you go inside they have grab and go off to your right side with sandwiches and salads along with frozen soups from Sprezzatura and on your left there is Mediterra breads, along with a refrigerator full of pastas from D'Anoia's and Pizzeria Davide. Following that you pints of ice cream in a freezer from "Millie's" and then some fresh produce, lox, and other refrigerated items. In the center they have shelves full of groceries from various farmer's market vendors and a section devoted to merchandise from the next door flower and gift shop "Spurge." The place is very clean and trendy. If you love to shop farmer's markets then you would be delighted to see such names as "Olive and Marlowe," the Pickled chef", and some of their outstanding products. They also carry some of Pittsburgh's better known candies from Mon Aimee Chocolat, sauces from both Alla Famiglia, and Pasta Too, jams from Batch, along with brands and groceries like honey that I was not familiar with but still worth a try. Don't expect to find all the top selling names found at the farmer's markets but I did like the fact that the staff is open to suggestions for new ideas. As you head towards the back over on the right is a beer and wine grab and go and in the center is a coffee bar. Wrapped around the back is the cafe itself. Looking through the glass you will see some nice pastries, and premade filled foods. You order in front on either side of the coffee bar, have a seat and they will bring it out to you. On weekends during certain hours they serve brunch. Also below the ordering area you can purchase portion size snacks such as chips. Takeout is also available which I opted for. I chose the roasted Brussel sprouts salad with kale, spinach, arugula, spiced pecans with maple dressing. The counter lady told me she would put the dressing on the side so the salad would stay fresh. While I noticed they have vegetarian items I saw they significantly lacked vegan products. I only noticed one jar in the grocery itself that was marked vegan. I brought that matter to their attention and they will look into remedying that. I got my salad after a brief wait and took it home with me. Believe me when I opened it, it smelled so fresh!! I ate it the following day and it was just as good as ever. That maple syrup was very flavorful on top of it. I like the fact that some of the items they stock come from the Strip District where it is often difficult to find parking. The menu has a good selection of different things to try which means I most certainly will be back in the near future. Soo happy we found this place (through our obsession with three brothers bagels which sell here). We came for brunch on Sunday and got here a little before 10, so we just waited until their full menu became available. You order at the counter, get a number and then they bring out your food. They also have a water station. Had two lattes (both were delicious, I would probably get an extra shot if I got another). We tried the candied bacon which was amazing, the brunch pizza (also amazing) and the biscuits and gravy (the best I've had). I cannot believe how good the food was, we will definitely be back! The staff was very nice and I love the ambiance inside. It started to get pretty busy towards the end of the meal so either get here early or be willing to wait (it is worth it!). read more

I love this place: Great wine selection, the best of our locally made pittsburgh foods, staff was very friendly, prices were fair, and I had the best soup I've had in awhile! Waxing poetic (longer version of above) They carry Boen Pinot noir and if you are new to wine this is one of the best Pinot noirs for under $50, they also had Mediterra challah hamburger buns (so good & easy on my gluten sensitive stomach) ...BUT ALSO they carry martin's which is my bread of choice from chain grocery stores. I also really appreciated them not using plastic bags considering I didn't have any of my reusable bags handy. I purchased the above as well as a roasted apple vinaigrette (texture was chunky) but after hand mixing it into my salad it's now one of my favorite dressings! Other items they carry: -Millie's ice cream -dianoias to go section with various sauce/fresh pastas -bacon -beer -eggs -butter lettuce -tea -all the condiments! -pizza kits -grab & go section with chicken wings, lasagna, lemony chickpeas, various spreads,dips, & salads -various dried sausages & salamis -various hard cheeses -coffee -pickles & other pickled veggies -oyster mushrooms -spices -honey butter -spoon rests, sponge holders, wooden & clay spoons, cookbooks etc ** please put your soups in the grab and go section! 5 stars for this new local business in Fox Chapel! I found out about Local Provisions before they were officially open from my uncle who delivers their bread (Pittsburgh is such a small world). I followed them on Instagram and anxiously waited for them to open. The front portion is a market featuring products from so many local businesses. The back half is a full bar and cafe serving lunch and dinner and brunch on the weekends. Local Provisions is in the same shopping center as The Coffee Tree Roasters and Splurge and near the "new" Chick fil a in Fox Chapel. We decided to try their brunch and went around 10 am on a Saturday. The staff explained to us that you order everything at the counter and they will bring it out to you. I ordered a mimosa, and the omelette (squash, kale, tomato, shishito pepper relish). It didn't specify, but the omelette definitely had goat or ricotta cheese in it too. It was delicious! I really enjoyed this omelette. My boyfriend ordered the french toast (custard, marinated berries, bananas, powdered sugar, basil) with a side of candied bacon. Wow - the custard on the french toast was amazing and he was obsessed with the candied bacon. We would go back to get this exact meal again. I will probably skip the $12 mimosa next time since it was only about half full in the champagne flute. I can't wait to go for happy hour or dinner soon and try more of their cocktails and food! After we ate brunch we browsed around the market and picked up a pan of Forma Pasta lasagna, DiAnoia's rigatoni and marinara, a smoked sea salt, and a few other things. I loved looking through their selection of olive oil and sauce. So many great things!! I also ordered a donut which I think may be from Driftwood, but they forgot to put it in my bag. :( We may have spent more money than expected, but are happy to support local and will be back again soon. Located in the Fox Chapel Plaza, it's conveniently located off 28 with loads of free parking. This review is based only on its specialty gourmet food market as we ate lunch elsewhere. They carry all my favorite local brands! Jams from Batch, breads from Mediterra, pasta sauce from Di Anois, soups from Sprezzatura, and baked goods from Driftwood Oven to name a few. Worth the trip to buy my favorites all in one place. Stopped in quickly to order lunch to go. The wait time was fine not too too long and they do have a "market" you can browse while waiting. I take issue with the prices my sandwich was $16 for just a sandwich not small bag of chips or apple or anything. To go along with it. I ordered a cup of soup to go on the side, which was $6 but when I opened the cup it was half filled. The only reason I gave a second star is the taste of both the soup & the sandwich are excellent. I'm my opinion they are not worth the almost $25 price tag...as there was a take out fee on my order. read more

Let me preface this review with a clear statement that their location, staff, and environment are fantastic for their offerings and as a local gathering spot. It was comfortable, clean, and super friendly to families (as well as those without kids and those just enjoying food and drink at the bar). I'll even mention that the restrooms were pristine. This review is strictly about the food. After wanting to try it for a while, we finally stopped in for lunch today. Ordering at the front counter was easy and the cashier was happy to explain everything. We opted to order off the the cafe menu (brunch menu was also available) and chose: - Fall Fritter Bowl (arugula / spinach / baby kale / radicchio / yogurt / lentils / sweet potato fritters / carrots / tomato / harissa vinaigrette / pumpkin seeds) - Mussels (coconut green curry / cilantro / green onion / crusty bread) - Side of shoestring frites with garlic aioli. Starting in reverse order, the frites were very good. Nothing amazing, could have been a bit crispier. Aioli was very tasty. Huge portion and a great value for the price. The mussels dish is where things went south. The mussels themselves were fresh and perfectly cooked as a protein, but practically flavorless. The so-called curry was essentially hot coconut milk with just enough herbs to turn it green. There were no perceptible spices or salt. Beautiful toast points, but overall the dish was the blandest of the bland. The fall fritter bowl was the biggest disappointment. In contrast to the mussels, the lentils were as salty as seawater and nearly inedible. The fritters were cloyingly sweet and had chunks of undercooked onion. The entire dish was drenched in the vinaigrette. The yogurt was nice and balanced everything a bit, but it was overall extremely disappointing. Again, loved the vibe a lot. The brunch menu foods we saw delivered to neighboring tables looked great, and we're resolved to go back to try them. But the cafe menu items we tried were really disappointing and I'm hesitant to recommend this place to anyone looking for savory lunch items. read more
