I recently checked out The Butterwood Bake Consortium to grab some baked goods for my birthday. This space is sooo cute. The service was also great. We tried a slice of chocolate cake, a brownie, and a blonde. We took our pastries to go but next time, I'd love to sit in and enjoy the outdoor patio in the back. I also appreciate that they are open until 11 PM. I'll definitely stop back in to try more options in the future!

This is a great and alternative spot for those wanting something a little different than going out for drinks / to the bar. I say this because they are open late several nights a week! Great spot for dessert after dinner or as part of a date, too. I specifically went in for the "fancy" hot chocolate, which is made with real chocolate pieces. The baked goods were also tasty - my only suggestion is to make sure you ask to have your item warmed up, depending on what you get, as they are kept in a cool case and something like a brownie for example was pretty hard to eat. The sever did recognize this and offered to heat it up after the fact; which made it perfect. All of the baked goods were perfectly wrapped or garnished. The interior has a decent amount of seating and lots of dried flowers everywhere. Definitely try the hot chocolate!

Came here for a late night meeting and I'll be honest! Completely forgot what I was supposed to be meeting about because the cake was too good and that hot chocolate was mega distracting ‍

The inside is such a vibe and so cozy! The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable about all the goodies. There are so many unique options to choose from and I'll definitely be back to try more. Open until 11pm so it's a great late night spot. Would be an ideal place for a book club!

VEGAN REVIEW Lovely spot with a nice selection of vegan desserts. Everything is just so dang pretty, you almost don't want to eat it. ALMOST. But when you do eat it, you will be quite pleased with the high quality & deliciousness! Had a lavender tea cake with ube frosting & blueberry cobbler. YUM. Things were a little funky because it was the middle of a heatwave & the AC (I think) was broken so everything was packed to go. I felt for the server! Would love to return when things are back to normal, the ambiance was super cute

I don't know if I can adequately describe how good the tea cakes are. I would come here every time I was in Pittsburgh for work. It has been years and I still cannot find a place elsewhere that comes as close to good as this bakery. The buttercream frosting is just out of this world.

I was told to stop here by a friend that used to live in the area. So glad that I did! What a fun place. Very sweet and kind service from the baristas and they helped me choose the right cake and drink. Ended up with the poppy rose tea cake with pistachio buttercream frosting, also got a hot chocolate. The horchata was deconstructed to give me the opportunity to build to my preference with the milk, chocolate and whipped cream all separated. The whipped cream was possibly the best whipped cream I had ever tasted! Street parking was easy when I went and finding a table was also convenient but the place definitely filled up by the time I left

My friend went and got some goodies from Butterwood and shared with us! Butterwood always has not only gorgeous presentation but delicious baked goods! Not pictured is the browned butter blondie which was amazing as per usual and a personal favorite of mine that I have to get every single time.

Delectable dessert spot and one of the only late night dessert spots in all of Lawrenceville. Victorian inspired decor provides a novel and cozy, speakeasy feel. While the small buttercream cakes, puddings, and various baked goods seem to be the stars of the show, don't sleep on their cakes! These are dense, decadent, and not too sweet. I repeat, nothing is too sweet here making it a great spot for those who are easily overwhelmed by really sugary desserts you'll often find at the grocery store. Everyone behind the counter is friendly and they even have coffee(lattes, cappuccino, etc) and tea. One of my favorites is the lavender love cake with ube buttercream. Great spot to bring out of towners to showcase the very best of the dessert scene here in the burgh.

Too notch desserts that look too pretty to eat and are also equally delicious. I love how its not overallh sugary and the flavors are unique. Loves the rose cake and the lemon poppy seed. The cafe style is definitely more retro but the espresso and desserts are worth it!

Their picture is giving me gooey gooey pull apart blondie. It got to me hard as a brick. I'll give them another chance and then maybe I'll give a higher rating a review. Until then I'm a little disappointed , my box was not properly sealed it was broken and opened. But that's the cost you pay when ordering from "DoorDash". Until next time butterwood I know they can do better an are better so I'll be checking in very soon in person. God bless

This place is in a very random location, but I would consider it to be one of the most delicious hole in the walls I have found in Pittsburgh. It's a very quaint and antique Café with such creative sweets and pastries. I love that it is open late as it makes for a great late night snack. Prices are actually not too expensive. Highly recommend stopping in whether it's for a dessert or a coffee break.

    Do they have gf treats......?

They did when I was there last -- I think maybe some custards/puddings if I remember correctly

Do they carry any sugar free items?

Would you buy your GF wedding cake from them?

    Definitely

    Are there gluten free cakes?

Rarely, and not consistently. When I was there last, they had nothing GF at all.

Is this an ok place to hunker down and study? Thanks.

Yes - free WiFi, quiet atmosphere, and coffee/tea.

I got to try the plain cheesecake, buckeye, lavender, double chocolate, biscoff, and key lime pie, and honestly every single one was delicious! His cakes are made with alot of labor & love! What made this experience even more amazing, was getting to go behind the scenes and actually help make a ton of different cheesecakes. Such a fun, hands on experience getting to see Kyle in action and the amount of hard work that goes into every order. I loved hearing his stories about his childhood and his family influences. Kyle is only 31 and has owned his business for over 7 years! That's impressive. You can really see the passion behind his baking. He works incredibly hard and even sacrifices a lot of his social life to keep growing his business, perfecting his craft, and supporting his community. Small business, big story! definitely a spot worth supporting in Pittsburgh!!!!! Thank you Kyle & Lisa

Not too friendly, yet also not rude, I think maybe just a bit shy. I went here in particular because I saw they had gluten free everything bagels & vegan cream cheese, so I was sooo excited to order it, but unfortunately they did not have any gluten free bagels at that time. I looked around for another GF & DF option, and landed on a couple of hard boiled eggs. Can't go wrong with a hard boiled egg, hehehe! I ordered a cold brew with the sugar free hazelnut & asked for extra syrup, which I soon determined was not necessary. That's a great thing though! It was an amazing sugar free syrup & if you get the SF hazelnut I'd suggest just keeping the amount as is. Their cold brew itself was really yummy too (well from what I could tell because I accidentally asked for too much syrup, hahaha). It is so stinkin' cute inside this shop and I wish I had more time to look around a bit. I definitely plan to go back, and fingers crossed I can try the GF everything bagel next time! I'd love to look around more inside & actually dine in, because it felt wicked cozy! I also love that they offer glassware options for those who dine-in, plus they use compostable items for take-out. The cafe is nestled in the upper Lawrenceville... where parking is simple and life is slower lol From first glance, this establishment is ready to make you feel right at home. With cute signage everywhere instructing you on there sustainability practices and fun flavors of the month, you go from first time to feeling like a regular instantly. The lattes... were.... DELIGHTFUL. We got a peppermint latte and a vanilla oat milk latte. The flavors were rich but not cloyingly overpowering. We also ordered a breakfast hand pie (why does life not use the term hand pie more often, you just feel so fun ordering one) and an Egg & Cheese Bagel. Both freshly put together and toasted to perfection. It is great when a cafe has actually delicious and intentional food. The staff was more than ready to give their suggestions and help. They kindly announce when your order is ready and wait with a smile to hand it off to you! There were plenty of cute places to sit and the decor was just so.. them. They have a restroom available and well marked as well. We may have a passport full of coffee places to try, but Caffe d'Amore might just have to be a regular spot during the journey anyway!!
