My husband had the Moby Dick burrito, which was huge. He devoured it. I had the lunch special, 2x quesoburria + salad. Soooo delicious, and I could only eat 1, all for a great, minimal price. The food is Mexican fusion. Fusion with what? Definitely with something Asian for some of the dishes. And something Barbecue. There may be other influences but those 3 in general cover a lot of styles, each on their own! My person and I shared 2 appetizers. We had Crunchy Wontons with birria (slow roasted beef in a red broth that is then shredded - similar to an American pulled pork in consistency). They had a layer of creamy coleslaw slaw dressing and a layer of corn salsa between the meet and the wonton. Since these were open-faced wantons this was important to keep the balance of each each Wonton 's flavors just right. Oh! The red sauce the meat was in was Kung-Fi Sauce. It was very flavored so in that sense spicy and for me any more of whatever brought the heat might be too much, but this certainly was Master sauce. Steak Fries was the other appetizer. A play on words. French Fries ... extra long, well fried to hold up to the steak toppings and not at all oily. In addition to steak there was guacamole, and another sauce. Huh, I was so dazzled by the excellent steak I can't think of the other ingredients beyond guacamole.. I did end up using a fork to make sure that I got everything onboard the fries But they supplied the forks. I stayed at the Homewood Suites and ordered delivery through Grub Hub. They promised our meal would be there between 17:35 and 17:55. But it arrived at exactly 17:30 t may be relevant to someone to know that my taste buds are very sensitive to any red pepper flakes They cause me to cough whether the finished product tastes spicy or not. I had no problems with any.of their food! Unfortunately, I cannot answer any questions about the restaurant or employees but the food was awesome and timely. My friend and I hit up Food Lab for dinner on a Wednesday night around 7:30 PM. We were the only people in this quaint little eatery. The food was tasty, the place was clean and the service was excellent. The only reason I removed one star was because the Quesabirria (which we both ordered) was greasy (fried instead of grilled) and the plate wasn't served with a vegetable. I expected at least a garnish of shredded lettuce and a slice of tomato. I'm visiting Rochester for a month and I suspect I will return to Food Lab while I'm here. I had been trying to come here for a while but just didn't work out. I have to say, I've been missing out! Wife and I had lunch here and the all of the food was fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The service was great as well. We ordered Mexican - Spanish foods and probably wouldn't order items like chicken Alfredo (but not from having tried it). I had the street tacos - chicken, carnitas, and pastor - each was truly delicious! Wife had the Gordita and Enchilada lunch special (special number one). She felt exactly the same way about her meal: fresh, beautiful, delicious! We highly recommend this place (for Latin foods). read more

I stopped by this afternoon to try Food Lab for the first time. The food was good, I got street tacos. The chicken was on the dry side but tasty and the salsa was really good. That said, the menu is super confusing. There aren't descriptions or ingredients of anything, just a title. "Kung Fu Chicken" apparently is crispy chicken with coleslaw but I had to ask. I was the only person there and the man who greeted me was very nice and explained what the dishes were. To be honest I just got frustrated and ordered street tacos rather than have to go thru the entire menu. It would be super helpful to have a description of each menu item. If the man who greeted me want so friendly and helpful I probably wouldn't go back, but I will most likely try them out again. read more

Finally, we have been waiting for City of Rochester to finally give approval to open. The Taco Lab truck has dominated the food truck business for over a year & now we have an amazing new brick & motor Mexican gourmet restaurant. place is absolute garbage. the staff was rude to us for wanting to see a menu. then a man with special needs comes in and "owner" yells at him profusely. threw him out, he left willingly and the owner followed him out the door and down the street until I stepped in. Food - the food was pretty good but after reading about how great it was, I was slightly under whelmed versus expectation. I had the chicken Alfredo. The Chicken was good - slightly spicy and as noted in the menu. The Noodles were al dente (good). The sauce was unfortunately watery. It still tasted decent but was liquidy in texture. Also, no bread or garlic toast to mop up the sauce. Also, the pricing on Yelp was not accurate so the meal was slightly more expensive than stated ($16 on linked menu attached to Yelp but was charged $16.90). Also, the menu uses the term "large" plate of chicken Alfredo. I would not call it large. The salsa and chips appetizer that was interesting. Chips were good. The salsa looked good but wasn't as spicy or as flavorful as I had hoped. Not bad but needed a bit more kick. I did see a couple other meals and the customers were very happy and enjoyed their meals quite a bit, so my sauce issue may have just been a small one off. I would certainly go back but try a different dish next time. There were many options that sounded great on the menu. Service - I went in at lunch and it was a bit slow. Only one waiter and only two people total working that I could see. Food came out quickly, hot and the drink was refilled swiftly. I was happy with the service and speed, especially considering only two people working. Ambiance - nice environment. Looked to be 3-4 bar seats and 8-10 booths / tables, so a bit limited on seating (so go earlier if concerned) but wasn't busy when I went so not an issue for me. I would call it an intimate setting. Nice amenities. Parking at lunch can be a bit limited as lots of shops in the same strip of shops to compete for parking (again go earlier if in a hurry). Plenty to like. I will try this restaurant again when I return to Rochester. read more

The food is amazing. I ordered the ceviche and the food lab parrillada. Both prepared perfectly. I thought the parrillada was large enough to split with another person.
