We got the guac and it was good! I shared the lamb shank with my partner and it was more than enough for the two of us - we were stuffed! It was cooked wonderfully and tasted amazing. Stopped by Ollin in Rochester for dinner and it was a decent, middle-of-the-road experience. I ordered the fish tacos, which came topped with a slaw and drizzled sauce, plus a side of rice and refried beans and a couple of salsas. The tacos themselves were fine - the fish was a little dry for my taste, but the slaw on top added some nice crunch and the sauce helped bring some moisture back in. The rice and beans were serviceable, nothing that stood out but nothing wrong with them either. The chips and salsa to start were good, and the green salsa in particular had a nice tang to it. Portion sizes were reasonable for the price. Service was fine, not particularly fast but not slow either. Nothing about the meal blew me away, but nothing really disappointed either. It's a solid option if you're in the area and want Mexican food, just don't go in expecting anything spectacular. Might try a different dish next time to see if it changes my take. read more

This place came highly recommended and sadly it was just ok. I gave the stars since the service was spectacular. I ordered the lunch quesabirra tacos with no beans and add queso. The queso was cold so wasn't enjoyable with chips or the rice. The meat in the tacos was hard to eat as it was tough and gristly. I was tugging on the non broken down connective tissue in the meat. The tacos weren't the texture the birra tacos are as these were limp and soggy without the consume. TheI didn't eat but half a taco and asked for check. I tipped over 20% as the server was fantastic. Such a cute new restaurant to add into your dining out rotation! We went early, around 4:15 ok a Friday - seating was plentiful but quickly filled up! The food was very good and generous portions! I got pork street tacos and a piña colada and my companion got the Special burrito with shredded beef and a house margarita.The meat was very tender and flavorful - highly impressed! We also ordered a queso dip to eat with the complimentary chips and salsa. I really enjoyed the piña and it was so cute! My companion is a margarita lover and the House margarita wasn't her favorite - but she did get a buzz! There's free and accessible parking in the adjoining lot(s) - but it fills up fast. Being from Rochester, it's always exciting to see a new restaurant open when I go home. Ollin was fantastic -- the perfect vibes for a quick meal with friends. I was blown away by the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, and never would have thought to try a tequila and bourbon cocktail. Finally found out what all the fuss around @ollinrochester is about--no wonder the lines are always out the door! The food is tasty, service is fast and friendly, and the margaritas are giant & delicious. The restaurant was spacious, clean and fast paced without being chaotic. We had the Ollin Tradicionale which was all well cooked & came with an incredible sauce, and the Lamb shank which was fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. The guacamole was slightly saltier than my preferred but still very fresh and tasty. Portion sizes were great and their rice which was mixed w corn was fragrant and delicious. This is my new go to Mexican restaurant! The ambiance is gorgeous. They utilize the natural light well. All the food was freshly made and wonderfully done. Definitely should try the ribeye tacos (a messy dish that's full of flavor and texture) and the churros (fresh, light, and crispy)! The only knocks I would give it are that the chips are a bit salty and the ice cream for the churros was the cheap hospital kind. The service is attentive and pleasant. Everything was amazing from arrival at the reception desk to the waiters, the food was incredible, the salsa was top-notch, the chips were amazing. If you've read some of my reviews before, you will note that I'm pretty picky about Mexican restaurants. This restaurant has been opened for a couple weeks now, it was recommended to me as I was traveling. I am so glad that I followed their advice. I had a combination plate that included chicken quesadilla, and a beef enchilada. But the best part of the whole thing was the beans and rice! I come to the Mayo Clinic often for work. Outstanding Mexican food at this new location in Rochester. It was practically a blizzard outside but the restaurant was well staffed and the whole team was super friendly. They have great margaritas and a full bar. The tableside guacamole was excellent. We had a large party and ordered a number of items, and everyone really enjoyed their meal. We also got dessert, and I highly recommend the churros. It does get crowded, so you may have to wait a little while. read more

Fantastic place for Mexican in NW Rochester. We came here for date night after the restaurant opened just a couple weeks ago, and are thoroughly impressed and can't wait to come back. They have a large menu to choose from and portions are generous. Best chips and queso in town! The steak fajitas were flavorful and the meat was tender. The white sangria was outstanding. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. They had plenty of staff on to manage the busy Saturday night crowd. Large bar area with big screen TV's to watch the game. The owners really did an outstanding job of updating the space that has been several other restaurants over the years. The modernized updated reno and decor is beautiful. read more

Because of the Yelp reviews and rating, I had high expectations. It was a disappointing experience. I'm from the Kansas City area and have had Mexican food in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas. I definitely understand what separates the good from the mediocre. Let's dive in! I asked for an iced tea, unsweet with a lemon...got everything but the lemon and had to ask the bar staff for one. The chips were good. Crispy, warm, and not stale. It paired well with the red salsa. The white salsa tastes like a watered down ranch dressing mix. My main course, carnitas with chili verde, pickled red onions, pickled jalapeños, flour tortillas, rice and beans was all over the place in flavor and taste. I liked the carnitas (fall apart tender) and chili verde. The flour tortillas were meh. The rice was flavorless. And the beans looked and tasted like they were out of a can. With each bite it became clear, the entire meal was not good, in my opinion. I left 3/4 of the rice and beans and half of the carnitas, pushing away the plate to eat the yummy chips and salsa. Then as I'm drinking my tea through a straw, I was feeling the rim of the glass and found a dried food particle.....gross. When the waitress came back, she looked at my plate and asked if I wanted to box it up. I politely said no thank you and paid for the bill. This appears to be an upscale Mexican restaurant and it was full when I was there for lunch. I'm sure this place has its fans, but I'm not one of them. I'd rather take my business and tastebuds to one of the local food trucks serving authentic and delicious food. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants that was recently opened in Rochester area I was visiting Rochester. I happen to be around the area in where I found this amazing restaurant this place does have a great ambience. It's great for hanging out with groups. It's between a lot of Shopping and Your so I'm pretty sure this place gets backed up in the weekend so make sure to do some reservations. I can't tell you how amazing of a service we got here. They are right on their toll running around making this place lit up with beautiful smile, and amazing hosting. Remember, these are not small plates so when you come here, have you drink chips and they do live guac let me remind you. It was awesome when you're ordering your food be mindful of how much you can eat and how much you wanna take home. It was delicious everything we had here was amazing. Ollin in Rochester has the coolest interior and best vibe of any Mexican restaurant in town. The space feels modern and intentional, definitely going for an upscale Mexican feel. We sat at the bar and did have to track someone down to take our order, but they were clearly very busy. Once ordered, the margaritas were good, and the chips and salsa were solid. The downside is that the experience didn't match the atmosphere. With the elevated menu and tableside guac, you expect more care, but our food came out in about four minutes, making it feel like the same rinse-and-repeat Mexican food you can get anywhere...just prettier and more expensive. The food was so-so, and it felt very similar to Los Arcos, which makes me think it may be the same ownership. For the price, I would've rather gone somewhere cheaper. Great vibe and drinks, but the food didn't live up to it. read more

Glad to see a new restaurant taking over this location after having 2 or 3 not make it in Rochester at this prime location. Tried to get of the wait list before going to the restaurant on Saturday , We ere told to proceed to then restaurant four seating, expecting no wait! Not so!! We had to wait for 35 minutes when we arrived at 5 pm. With two small children it was not ideal! Once seated we sat and sat and patiently waited for 25 minutes before I flagged down a server and asked for someone to at least take our drink order and give us menus !!! Once we had someone's attention the service and delivery service improved! They obviously have some new opening issues to work out! Good food and prompt food & drink delivery followed. We will return as the food we received was good and we would like to explore the menu a bit more. The lighting needs work because our section was poorly lit as some of the menus are faded already and hard to read! Reasonable priced and good quality of food.
