Well we happened to be in the area so we stopped in and ordered the fried chicken. The people working in the deli area were super friendly and all of the food looked delicious but the fried chicken was AMAZING! We went around lunchtime on a Sunday so the chicken was nice and hot and tasted super fresh! First we ordered two chicken thighs just for a taste but it was so good, we went back and ordered four more pieces. Definitely 10/10!!!

Our first interaction was at…read moreCustomer Service where one of the managers, Lakia (Im probably spelling her name wrong) was amazingly patient with a very difficult customer for an extended period of time. Not only was she kind, but she went above and beyond to help this customer. Bravo! She stood out because she was incredibly professional and is a great example of how a manger should be! I wish there were more employees like her! A while later, as my family and I shopped the store, we asked for assistance from Janice Roberson as she was stocking shelves down an aisle. I asked her where I could find an item and she basically grunted and mumbled as she waved me and my kids away. I asked her to repeat herself and she told me she doesn't know and "every store is different" and shooing me in a direction, while not even pausing her task. She was outright rude and even my kids were shocked. Having been a manager in a major retail store, I understand there is a wide range of professionalism and lack there of. These two women show the extremes of the scale. The store was in good order, decently stocked (I understand Covid has caused some issues) and most employees were courteous and welcoming. The parking lot was clean as was the inside of the store. Keep up the good work!

A decent gas station/corner market with basic necessities and even fishing bait too. With the lack of restaurants around, we grabbed some hot meals for takeout (softshell crab and fish sandwiches, steamed shrimps, etc.) I would skip on their frozen pretzel with crab meat on top. First off, yeah, they know lots of folks are going to want alcohol, and I think half of the aisle endcaps displayed something alcoholic. While they had a lot of classic and domestic products, they do offer a decent amount of local beer, wine, and pre-mixed cocktails (even though the Untappd app said the local beer I was looking for wasn't sold anywhere in a 25 mile radius, Island Foods had it!). We came the week of Pony Penning, and the store makes a couple dozen cakes (see picture) to celebrate the occasion. The produce aisle is small, but they have enough that you could get a decent variety of fruits and vegetables for your stay. There's a pretty decent selection of meats here. I don't remember seeing too much non-frozen seafood, but I imagine it's hard to compete with the fresh catch with specialty fish markets on the island. I was pleasantly surprised to find several Gardein products, which meant vegetarian Child #1 could have some imitation meats and seafood if he wanted a protein similar to what the rest of his omnivorous family would get. Things are pricey. Inflation's here to stay and it's a touristy beach town. Considering that, it's not too bad. The folks at the register were very friendly. Whatever foodstuffs you're looking for, it's a good bet that Island Foods has it.

I can't afford to shop at Wegmans for pretty fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately my Social Security budget is only going to buy me ugly Walmart food locally.
