For one of the smallest Food Lions I have ever been to, they have a very good selection of groceries and excellent customer service. Fairly quick check out with adequate cashier lanes open. Clean facility with a very orderly organization and smooth consumer flow. read more

This Food Lion has so many issues. The one in Christiansburg is leagues better. Over the years I have seen produce workers drop raw produce on the floor and put it back out for sale. The employees smoke right in front of the doors so that smoke constantly drifts into the building from the front and back of the store which presents an accessibility issue to those of us with respiratory ailments. Today I had the rudest cashier who was too busy gossiping with her friend about some customer that she said would be shopping elsewhere now to avoid her. Every time she talked to this friend at her register, her hands would stop scanning items. She had absolutely no concern that she was holding up her own line of 4 people waiting which included me. The 3 behind me finally gave up and went to other lines. I waited more than 15 minutes while she had scanned maybe 6 items. I finally spoke up and just said maybe she could talk with her friend when she didn't have work to do and that she was going incredibly slow. She gave me a dirty look then put a disturbing exaggerated smile on and said "THANK you, I APRECIATE it" with sarcasm dripping from her voice. I don't complain about things unless they're egregious. The times I have complained about these things both at store level and to corporate, absolutely nothing changed. I still saw produce that hit the floor everyone's shoes touch with goodness knows what on them be put back on the shelf. The smokers outside the doors continue. And I doubt this horrible cashier will see any real consequence for her rudeness. When I lived in Maryland, Food Lion had a meat bleaching scandal and there are still almost no Food Lions in Maryland. People don't trust them still there. I only have used my local one because it's conveniently nearby, but no longer. I am done with Food Lion. They really don't care about their customers or their quality of service. I haven't even complained about some of the little things like, putting good mushrooms on top of bad where you can't see that the ones underneath are starting to rot. And faking sandwiches in the deli to look like they have filling when it's only just a line pushed into one side of the bread to make it look that way in the package. read more

This isn't Christiansburg or Roanoke . So can't compare with grocery stores there . But for a small town like Floyd, it has what you need with a pretty decent selection. This place is always super busy and maybe has two rude cashiers scheduled on a good day. For whatever reason there's no self checkout but they'd be better off doing that than having cashiers who barely say anything. Why is it impossible for them to say anything to the customer besides their total? I said thank you since the guy just handed me my receipt and he still said nothing. Teach your employees better. A greeting would be nice, a thank you would be nice, or at least a "you're welcome" when I say thank you while I'm literally paying money to the establishment. Entitled, young employees. For the second time in the past two weeks I have received rotten chicken (using curbside service). The second I open it, I am met with a disgusting stink. I have brushed this off a few times, but it's ridiculous at this point. This isn't necessarily the fault of curbside staff , but there is mishandling somewhere - to the point where I don't feel safe purchasing cold goods. I have also purchased rotten meat (pre-pandemic) and realized later that they just put a new sticker over the old one to sell the product. I am a regular customer but I am extremely upset and disgusted at this point. People shop curbside because they can't risk going inside.. giving these shoppers borderline and expired products isn't right. I am also concerned that there is a refrigeration unit that is bad, or that there is careless staff handling raw products. read more

Several weeks ago, my wife and I purchased a bag of Food Lion store prepared chicken. When we opened the package in preparation for dinner we discovered the chicken wasn't cooked completely. We put it in the oven and finished the cooking. Our next visit to the store I advised the assistant store manager of the problem and he assured me it would be corrected. On 4 October, our Daughter and her husband purchased the same product, with the same results, but they became very ill. I think there's a problem that needs to be addressed, now. I can assure you we'll not be buying your chicken in the future. My wife and I spend, on average $100+ a week at your store and will continuue to do so. They updated the whole store even added more registers but no self check out so it takes forever to check out. Staff is very slow.
