I'm a self admitted Kroger fan, but sometimes I will mix in groceries. Previously that second string was now closed Farm Fresh across the street. It was too tempting with a Food Lion sign begging me to try their newly renovated store on a week day morning. In the Spring of 2018 Food Lion undertook a bold plan and 168 million dollar capital investment to renovate 105 Norfolk area stores. Late this Summer to early Fall all stores will be complete. The store is located in a strip off Independence Blvd with Cafe Cinema. The lot is plenty big enough and in the past never seemed to be an issue with slow traffic almost anytime of the day. I found the area and walk up clear of debris. What surprised me the most was walking in the door. I did not expect it to be so nice. I've visited this store a half dozen times over a decade and it was pathetically dated. Now bright, fresh and welcoming is what customers should expect. I only needed one item and interacted with a single staff person stocking shelves. He directed me to the aisle if they stocked. It turns out they do not carry Boost protein drinks. So, I had no purchase experience in the revamped store. They did not skimp and put in all new equipment and thoroughly cleaned it up where it's now a respectable player to shop. I will be back, but Kroger may continue to be my main with my loved fuel points.

I'm not a regular Food Lion shopper. But sometimes headed home, north on Independence, it's too convenient to pass up if needing only one or two items. Located in Pembroke Meadows Shopping Center, on the east side of Independence, it has ample parking just steps from the door. It's also an "easy out" if headed north. All the local Food Lion stores have had recent face lifts. It was a "must" with all the new higher end stores moving into Virginia Beach. This store really needed that upgrade. It had been sadly 20th Century. But it still doesn't provide the same happy feeling as do my favorite stores. The store does always have the fresh Italian Turkey Sausages, in membrane covering, that I use in a number of recipes. It, and its fellow Food Lion stores, is the only place I've been able to find them. It is sadly lacking in the Vegan dairy free products that I have come to depend on to prevent food allergies. The few Vegan items they carry are shelved with non Vegan items. Therefore they are harder to locate. They appear to exclusively use plastic bags. A far better approach, for the creatures that inhabit our Chesapeake Bay & Atlantic Ocean, would be paper and a bag credit to encourage reusable bags. This store will always be a convenience stop for me, rather than a full shopping experience.

I was thrilled to see the TJ's sample station offering their graham cracker squares topped with their whipped carrot cake cream cheese! Uh, yes, please! I mean, who doesn't like a sample? Needless to say, I picked up a container of the whipped carrot cake cream cheese. Then, after moving away to continue shopping, I decided to turn right back around to grab another container! The nice young lady serving the samples smiled at me and told me she completely understood why I grabbed another container. Lol TJ's is always so clean and the staff is always so friendly at this location. I like finding new items every visit, and I picked up lots of sweet treats for the holiday. Big thanks to all the IG followers who post their Trader Joe's finds and their reviews of their favorites. My cashier, Melissa commented on the additional (3) reusable regional shopping bags I had in my cart. Hilltop had the bag for North Carolina! Yay! I've enjoyed collecting the different state bags because they're so colorful and fun! Hope to see the Washington DC one, soon!

The new location has only half of what I bought at Jefferson Avenue in Newport News (not the other store on Warwick blvd.) E-Mart was relocated virtually overnight and without warning to Virginia Beach from Newport News. Did an army of marauders lug everything south or was it quantum tunneling and computer modeling that displace matter within space...? World Market in Newport News is the new E-Mart and has only furniture, not the Asian food I was looking for. Instead, I went next door to Fresh Market and bought two bags of red, white and blue potato chips. The woman of color behind the counter knew I understood what they had done. She said something out of context with my shopping trip: "It's my turn now." As if reparations are my duty to the world and I have to hand over the American legacy on a silver platter to make things right. Oh, so that's why you keep moving things around. Okay! Don't look at me if you want 40 acres and a mule because thanks to the local radical left politicians and reverse discrimination I have neither. This is a shell game. Someone is practicing psyops.

But what I really disliked was inventory all over the place...just too messy! I was told by a friend they have a marvelous butcher. That area had a fishy smell. So a one and done, but again nothing bad. A-OK.
