Shopping at Trader Joe's is a treat for me! So, I stopped into the Hilltop location in search of a few Easter holiday treats for my family. I was thrilled to see the TJ's sample station offering their graham cracker squares topped with their whipped carrot cake cream cheese! Uh, yes, please! I mean, who doesn't like a sample? Needless to say, I picked up a container of the whipped carrot cake cream cheese. Then, after moving away to continue shopping, I decided to turn right back around to grab another container! The nice young lady serving the samples smiled at me and told me she completely understood why I grabbed another container. Lol TJ's is always so clean and the staff is always so friendly at this location. I like finding new items every visit, and I picked up lots of sweet treats for the holiday. Big thanks to all the IG followers who post their Trader Joe's finds and their reviews of their favorites. My cashier, Melissa commented on the additional (3) reusable regional shopping bags I had in my cart. Hilltop had the bag for North Carolina! Yay! Joe's is always the best especially when we are traveling. This one is a little over 10 minutes from Oceanfront in the Hilltop shopping area. We picked up our uncured Deli meats, cheese and the best kept secret canned fish. From Sardines to Squid, salmon, oysters, anchovies and mussels you can't beat the prices and selection. The bonus for us is the grocery stores in Va sell beer/wine and Joe's has a great selection-Picked up a French Rose for $8. Service is always friendly and they get you through the pay lines quickly. May, 2025. This is an unusual review in that I haven't actually visited this Trader Joe's. However, my daughters (and their husbands) bought me Mother's Day flowers from TJ's and they're absolutely gorgeous -- colorful and packed with a variety of flowers. It's almost a week later, and all of the flowers still look good, and a few of the lilies continue to open -- which makes it look like a new arrangement every day. read more

This Trader Joe's is one of my go-to grocery spots, but timing is everything! If you get there early in the morning, it's a smooth and pleasant shopping experience. Later in the day it can get really busy, and the aisles feel a bit tight when the store is packed, which makes it harder to move around comfortably. Parking can also be tricky. The lot tends to fill up quickly, but I've found that parking in the back and walking up is the easiest way to avoid the hassle. That being said, the products and prices make it all worth it. Trader Joe's always has a great mix of unique items, fresh produce, and staples at very reasonable prices. I love discovering new things each time I shop here. Despite the crowds and parking challenges, this location consistently delivers great value and selection. read more

Is it really necessary to write a review about Trader Joes? If you know, you know. Small parking lots and usually always busy....like slammed busy! And this is the only store when it gets like that, I don't get irritated. There is a great vibe in the store because the employees are so friendly! It's smaller than a normal grocery store and you won't find brand names. Lots of cheese and wine....if you need items for a charcuterie board this is a must stop. A complaint I do have is all the plastic they use on produce. I bought an english cucumber and it was wrapped in plastic. Which actually surprises me. I hope they change that. High quality and delicious products. Not my every day grocery store but definitely in my rotation. Don't forget to get some flowers while you are there and bring your bags. read more

Trader Joe's is my go-to for grocery shopping! I try my best to go during weekdays at odd hours, because this place can get crowded since it's currently the only one located in Virginia Beach. Note: if you don't love crowds, don't go on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. I've been to plenty of Trader Joe's in various states, and the staff is alway so friendly, helpful and make the experience great. This spot in particular is always clean. Who doesn't love to notice that when they're shopping for food? One of my favorite things about TJ is the seasonal items. Especially around the fall, when pumpkin flavored things hit the shelves. Not all locations sell alcohol, but this one in particular has a huge wine selection. Some of my favorite wines I have bought at TJ, and they are so reasonably priced, ~$7 to $9 a bottle! (and no, they don't leave me with a headache). They staff is always helping bag items at the end of your visit, and giving suggestions on what to make with the items you pick. TJs isn't the fanciest or the largest - but their prices are more than fair. I came in years ago and then have not come back since but we stopped in yesterday specifically to get some pork carnitas for tacos my husband likes to make. While he was picking out the ingredients, I walked the store and checked out the frozen items and the produce. I was impressed with the fresh produce and the more than fair prices here. We found tons of fresh, chopped fruits for only $3.99 - a large portion too. Fresh berries and fruits at better prices than Harris Teeter for sure. I loved all the grab n go meals in the frozen section and found a bunch of cool ideas and items for later. I know they have almost a cult following for the frozen items and I could see why - I was in heaven looking everything over. Breakfast, berries, acai bowls, shrimp fried rice, pierogis, you name it. I saw it. Small baked good section with a nice selection as well with some really delicious looking breads. Trader Joe's has some cool items are wonderful prices - I got a nice natural spray sunscreen for $5.99 (typical cost is around ($9-12) so this was a find for me. It isn't huge inside but what they do have it cool and they have some yummy flavors and interesting items inside. Pretty flowers. I find that these items are affordable considering they are a healthier option and most items are organic, dye free, gluten free or something that is beneficial. Service is always amazing and quick. I have no complaints about our TJ! Covid times were rough here, but now that we are in a new era this store is super pleasant to shop at. Even when it's crowded and busy, people generally are nice and keep things moving. The employees are 99% of the time great to talk to you as you check out, always making it for a more pleasant experience. The prices are of course very low, and I'm always so thankful that I don't have to check labels here nearly as much as most other stores, their ingredients are just cleaner all around. Trader Joe's has been a store my daughter and I love visiting ever since she was young. We definitely can spend over an hour in the store looking at all of the many unique grocery items they supply. My daughter's favorite items to get are the seaweed packs and the Butter Chicken in the frozen section. I have many items I enjoy but my new favorite item is the White Truffle Potato Chips. If you enjoy the taste of truffles, you will absolutely love these chips. Even though the closest store is across town, we will hop in the car and have a mother/daughter date to Trader Joe's. Whenever I go to Trader Joe's, I get the same rush of serotonin that I get when I go to Target. The atmosphere and the organization of the store make me feel good. I am in several Trader Joe's Facebook groups, so I usually come here when I am looking for specific items that are only at TJ's. Here are some of my favorite items: -Gyro meat -Chili Onion Crunch -Garlicky Cabbage -Ube Ice Cream -Everything but the Bagel seasoning -Everything but the Elote seasoning -Israeli Cous Cous -Shawarma Marinated Chicken (raw) -Carmelized Onion Dip ...plus most of their freezer section. I totally love Trader Joe's for all my meatless options. They have a good selection and prices are reasonable. Also, their flowers are beautiful and priced really well. Even though it was packed, everyone was friendly (both employees and other customers). I was with my four year old granddaughter and she had a blast greeting everyone and everyone stopping to talk to her. She got stickers (her favorite) from several cashiers which made her day. Anytime I'm in Va beach i stop by Trader Joes. Its normally alot of people in there, but i went 30 minutes before closing and it wasn't so bad.. I love coming here because their flowers are very reasonably priced and i like their frozen food section. I am not a drinker, but i always pick up wine for special occasions because the prices are awesome. $6 was pretty good in my eyes. The store was clean but there were alot of people stocking. But that wasn't a problem. The customer service was good and the associates were nice.. I picked up some of my favorite things and i was on my way. In and out... I definitely wish they'd open another location in Va bch or Chesapeake. Having just one isn't enough.. Lol. They have a nice selection of things even though they're a small store!! My total was about $200, so although the prices are reasonable, it can add up pretty quickly... Lol. Omg... My budget was $70 for a few things. We see that didn't happen... Smh. Lol. My objective on this update review is one fold. To discuss how they operate under COVID. My five stars should tip you off that it's excellent! The staff outside the door monitors flow and count. I did not get the exact number, but it's over 100 at a time based on my experience. Shopping carts are cleaned. Mask are recommended, I did not see required. Almost all customers I witnessed were masked. Throughout the store employees were cleaning. Not the same employee mind you, but multiple staff were wiping things down. So what we seem to know about COVID is that surface to surface transmission of the virus seems unlikely. However, they were extremely diligent in cleaning. Checkout has plexiglass and hand sanitizer for customers. The staff who assisted me was friendly. I really need to make TJ a more frequent stop. read more

I have been going to Trader Joe's like a pilgrimage when I lived in Northern VA. Since I moved to VB about 4 years ago, I haven't had a chance to go regularly as I liked to since it would be a trek compared to my less than a mile distance from Aldi and less than 2 miles from LIDL. But TJoes's exists because it's unique in many ways and last night when I shopped at TJoe's, I was reminded of why I love it. Flowers are fresh and inexpensive, organic and skillfully packaged eats are so accessible, they have soooooo many frozen foods selections - reasonably priced and delicious. They even carry salt and black pepper potato chips which rationalizes why it's okay to binge on chips sometimes. If you're going to risk packing on a few calories, might as well enjoy the process! Some of the frozen foods I got which are recommended: - kimchi and tofu soup - beef birria - cauliflower gnocchi - chickenless roced cauliflower stir fry - kung pao chicken - macarons - reasonably priced snd yes just standard flavors but you don't pay $2.50 each! - gyro slices - only $4 and good portion - shawarma chicken thighs - marinated and ready to cook And last but not least - staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. COVID protocol abiders! Don't be afraid of the line outside the store! It goes by fast. They are limiting the number of shoppers inside, which I love because before the pandemic it would be a mad house inside. They sanitize the carts before handing them to you. There is a hand sanitizer available for use inside the vestibule before going in the store. I love their baked goods. But I especially love checking out the end caps for "what's new!" I can't believe I've never left a review for Trader Joes! Better late than never they say! Trader Joe's is a bit away from where I live so I don't go very often. That's not to say I wouldn't go every day if I were closer. I love Joe's!! I love everything they have from the wide variety of cheeses and wines, to their fresh flowers, their organic produces and fresh meats, to their foods that are sold no where else. I am on a low carb, no sugar, high protein type of diet and Trader Joe's carries many of the foods that is acceptable. I love how they label everything so clearly. The layout of the store is very organized so that you're able to see everything. The store itself is decorated with bright colors that really pop off. Everyone there seems to always be in a happy mood, but also very helpful and knowledgeable of their inventory. The only complain I have is that there aren't enough stores in the Hampton Roads area. I really enjoy Trader Joe's products. However this is the only location in the area and because of that it's an absolute mad house. I visited for the first time this week and the store is so packed I can't get around easily or take the time to look at products and read their ingredients without feeling like I'm in the way of others, being surrounded by shopping carts, or having to wait in line to walk down aisles. Im leaving a negative review because I'm sure Trader Joe's is aware of this situation and instead of opening another location they have decided not to and allow for a really bad shopping experience for their customers. I will not be returning to this location as I would rather shop elsewhere in a more relaxed environment. read more

I love coming here. I have a bit of a drive but it's definitely worth it. I have so many positive things ha to share about Trader Joe's Do not be alarmed! There is always parking! Their shipping carts ALWAYS work!!!! Unlike Walmart! The staff is superb! They are helpful AND KNOWLEDGEABLE about their products. Most of them consume the products and give you tips. They offer a beautiful and affordable selection of items, from fresh flowers to cheese and wine There is just so much to choose from and variety. The store is clean and well organized. The lines go quickly and that cashiers ask you a jug your day and share recipes and tips all while smiling AND promptly scanning your items. Talk about multi tasking. Exchanges or returns are a breeze. You don't have to haggle or get an attitude. It's all done magically and effortlessly.. Just like that! To top it all off they even have a section in the back that features samples of one of their products. You know ya helpers love to taste new things. The bathrooms are spotless. You know I have a thing for bathrooms My overall experience is always amazing at Trader Joe's they offer a variety of products from household items to brioche. My love for Trader Joe's has been growing & growing! Love this store primarily for the speciality items that they sell & you can't find anywhere else. Upon walking in, there's fresh flowers for sale to welcome you before you get down to business. They have a wide variety of many items, which I love, especially when I'm looking to try something new or with a different flavor. There's also great pricing on many things even compared to Lidel or Aldi. For example, I got a vegetable mix for $2 here when it was $4 elsewhere. Awesome save! They also have a sample tasting station. My favorite item: the dark chocolate covered pretzels! The only negative is the space. This is a very busy location on weekends and even with all cash registers open, it can still get backed up. Once you check out you even have to get in line to exit the building, Lol. read more

I love Trader Joe's. This place has many of my favorite items such as Orange Chicken, Cookie Butter, Roasted Potatoes with Vegetables and many more! This place is really nice for those who want to shy away from unhealthy options. Don't get me wrong no place is perfect but there are many options here that can replace unhealthy meals. The taste of the food when you prepare it at home, is absolutely delicious. I was visiting Virginia and found this one in Virginia Beach and it did not disappoint. I was so impressed with the staff, they were super nice and helpful in guiding me to the isles I needed to find the stuff on my list. All the shelves were stocked very well and signs and prices neatly posted, made the shopping experience enjoyable. The free coffee and tasty warm cider was a very nice treat on a cold rainy night in Virginia. The free sample Ricotta cheese and cracker was a great idea and delicious sample and something I am bringing to a future party. Overall I had two great visits to this Trader Joe's and I am so glad I found them on Yelp and I really appreciated the kind hospitality and outstanding customer service. Still a huge fan of Trader Joe's. Everything in my previous review is the same- except for the world we are now living in, of course. I visited TJ on March 12- it was a complete madhouse. Things were flying off the shelves. You had to squeeze through the aisles. People were buying in bulk. Just absolute madness, but still worth it for my favorite snacks and food items. I visited again on April 29- Completely different. Like it was pretty eerie how much has changed. This was the first public space I've entered since my March 12/13th errands, and the national emergency was declared. I've stuck to grocery delivery or curbside takeout, but eventually, it was my turn to buy groceries for my boyfriend and I. I knew that I wanted to return to the only place that makes me look forward to grocery shopping. So here is how TJ is handling things these days... When you arrive, look to the right of the door. That's the line. They are only letting a certain number of people in the building at a time. There are spaces taped off to keep people 6ft from each other. They will bring you a sanitized cart when you approach the door if you need one. When you get closer to the door, the staff will brief you about the one-way aisles, asking employees to move if you need to get close to them, staying away from other guests, and about the glass at the registers. When it's your turn to go in, they give you a post-it note with your time; if you check out within 15minutes, you get a small gift. I'm told it is coffee- I didn't get it because I took 22 minutes; unable to find cotija cheese or jicama tortillas. I didn't count how many people were in the store, but the flow of the arrows on the floor made sense with my normal patterns in the store. There were a few times when I got semi-close to other people, but never more than a few seconds. We all kind of gave each other the awkward look and smile of "well, this is weird." Most guests were wearing masks, which was reassuring and made me feel less weird as I'm getting used to wearing mine. The staff all had gloves and masks. There has been plexiglass installed at the registers to maintain a barrier between you and the cashier. They ask that you stand behind the glass. I bent this rule a tiny bit by not standing precisely on the square because I'm too short to see over the register where I was supposed to stand. I think I was still in the zone enough, though. The staff was in good spirits and made this weird trip less weird. I got all my favorite snacks, the things on my list, and even picked up a few new items! Five stars to TJ again for making me feel safe, comfortable, and staying open, so I can pick up the essentials (and non- essential snacks). read more

Trader Joe's is the best grocery store by a wide margin. The produce is often times cheaper than the cheapest grocery store, but the quality is better. You cannot go wrong with the frozen foods, and their Kringles are so so good. There are few times I've left with an item I didn't really like. I think what sets this location apart from some of the others is the *amazing* customer service. Every time I go in, the store is busy, but the cashiers are always ready to have a conversation and make you feel welcome. I don't have to hunt people down to ask questions, which I so appreciate. Who doesn't love Trader Joe's? It has to be Un-American to not sing its praises. The produce and meat are high quality but not overpriced. I love the bags of small sweet potatoes. Sliced as one would a cucumber then topped with butter & cinnamon and baked in the skin, they are impossible on resist. The larger ones at other stores just aren't the same. In season you can get big juicy blueberries in a large container for a fabulous price. Who wants the small containers that only leave one wanting for more? The potted containers of herbs are a wonderful springtime purchase. The basil plants are the fullest, nicest looking plants in town. I re-pot them in rail containers on my deck then cut what I need for cooking. They grow fast and allow for great pesto preparation. The frozen food section has nice choices, not just for entrees. Their frozen pancakes are awesome. There are interesting, healthy snack choices. Always there is something new, strategically placed at the cash register, that I can't pass up. The last trip was pumpkin cereal bars. I am not a big fan of their wine selection. And there isn't a selection of "ready to cook" entrees. So it's not a "one stop" store for all grocery purchases. My dream is to see a larger Trader Joe's in the Town Center area. read more

They have lots of specialty items, and the pricing are really reasonable compared to other health conscious stores. My favorites are the Infamous Mandarin Orange Chicken and the Cookie Butter. They also have a variety of snacks and varieties entrees and seafood in the frozen section. My only advice would be if you find something you like, make sure to buy a lot of it because it may just be seasonal. I recently saw that the watermelon cucumber juice was back so I bought 10 of them! The employees are very pleasant, they are willing to assist me and are very knowledgeable about their products. I'm a huge fan of Trader Joe's! I have not had the chance to go to one since moving away from Charlottesville a few years ago so I was excited about the opportunity to stop by this one in Virginia Beach. Our visit did not disappoint! Upon entering the store, you instantly feel the quirky Trader Joe's vibe- bright colors, Hawaiian shirts, and 19 cent bananas. You also see all of the Trader Joe's branded food around the store that makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. My recommendations- The mandarin orange chicken is a staple! As is the butter chicken. Their hummus and salsas are top notch, so I recommend trying one out. Their green dragon hot sauce is even better than Sriracha. You can't beat the prices on cheap and tasty wine here either (two buck chuck!) They have fresh coffee beans available in the back for purchase as well.
