I like food trucks. I like food trucks that have Poutine. I may just be a little biased here, but ALAS, I have found poutine in New Orleans. For those of you who don't know what poutine is, it's actually a canadian dish originating in quebec. It is composed of fries, with cheese curds that are sprinkled on top and they melt into a gooey mess as brown gravy is poured onto it. It's a heart attack in a cup. Back home in Canada, they have a a lot of different variations of poutines, and there are specialty poutine shops. I often think about poutine, so I was especially excited when I saw it on Foodie Call's menu as they were setting up. I was so excited, I couldn't wait and I ordered it immediately, I had to wait about 20 minutes for the poutine because they hadn't even started up their burners yet. Although it didn't taste like home, the poutine was still good in its own New Orleans way. A little bit of seasoned fries, gravy with debris, and cheese curds. Cheese curds weren't quite melted into a gooey mess, they were still sort of square and not totally soft. Plus side, I know where I can poutine for my cravings, I just have to chase this truck down, and now I also know where I can get cheese curds in this city. As you know, I'm a boudin snob ad I did not think these balls were any good. They had barely any batter on them and they were small. My ideal and perfect ball would be from Billys in Scott La. This is one of the best food trucks in the city. The Poutine is my favorite. Whenever they have lemon squares, I buy half a dozen. The burger is delicious and the onions are nicely caramelized. This truck seems to have become a regular fixture at the Rusty Nail so I gave them a try during a recent Saints game. I had the double cheese burger, lamb meat pie, and fries. The food was all good and the fries are nicely done while the burger was really more of a slider size than full burger size. One of my friends ordered the poutine debris fries and they were really tasty. For the quantity of food you get the prices are on the high side and really I think the tiny burger should just come with fries. I would certainly eat here again but probably only later at night if nothing else in the area is open as it's expensive for what you get. read more

I hate to say this, but I'm not impressed. Recently I went to The Rusty Nail for Opera On Tap and got dinner from Foodie Call, which was parked out front. I ordered the boneless rib tacos and a side of bacon mac & cheese. The tacos were ok but small for the price. The tortilla shell was a bit dry. The best part f the taco was the veggies. The bacon mac left a lot to be desired. I found the taste a bit bland, at times almost bitter. My two items cost me $10, which i could have used to get two pints of Guiness. Now that I think about it, the Guiness would be a better meal. read more

They are the best food truck in the city! These guys know how to cook! One of them used to work at LeForet and the other worked at Brennan's. I've had 3 of their items from their ever changing menu and all were great! Garlic Parmesan Fries, Creamy Mac and Cheese but my absolute favorite are there Empanadas! I cant wait to try their Sunday Brunch items :) i think they are soo good they should be featured on Eat St! I have been to this truck a few times at different bars. My first experience was the poutine fries which were disappointing. The last time I had the opportunity to eat from this truck I wasn't even hungry but decided to get something small to share with the table and to snack on. I got the wings and ate two whole orders. They were that good. I don't like to play favorites, but this truck may become my favorite food truck if they keep showing up my frequented bars. read more

BLUF: Burger was quick and pretty dang good but the fries were a disappointment. I got the blue cheese burger and it was really good. They make it fresh and it is pretty quick. Perfect amount of blue cheese and lots of mushrooms. Quality bun. Big fan. We got the truffle fries and they weren't very good. My only explanation is that they could have forgotten the truffle oil/salt. Just tasted like store bought frozen fries with minced garlic. The fries made us sad. I'd def eat here again (outside of Rusty Nail) but I would try more exciting fries like the pizza fries. If those are a bust though I would just stick to the burgers. Good burgers, good people, bad truffle fries (unless they just messed up on ours). read more

Ate here while at the WYES beer fest. Several of us shared a bit of everything and man were we all pleased. Wings: Deliciously sticky sweet and a little spicy. Parmesan/Garlic Fries: Amazing, we were fighting over these. BrieLT Sandwich: Wife loved it! Burger: Holy cow, this tied for The Company Burger for my favorite burger. The only thing that wasn't loved was the gravy and cheese curd fries. Totally amazed at the quality and taste of the food. some people complained about the prices before tasting, but this really is gourmet food and should be compared to restaurants. Love these guys. They come to our office once a week and I always try to get there. They use quality, fresh ingredients and have a very creative menu. I usually get the burger, sans bun, with arugala and pesto sauce insead of ketchup. And their french fries are homestyle, which I love. The poutine is delicious, the turkey caprese sandwitch is one of my favorites, and I honestly haven't tried anything on their menu that I wouldn't eat again. We were at a bar called Rusty Nail. Only food was a food truck called Foodie Call. It's 8pm and all I know is I'm super hungry. They didn't take credit cards. By now, there's no excuse not to take credit cards. Not only is there Square, there's a ton of other credit companies that do mobile. So I had to go get cash and pay the atm fee. Ok so I go get cash, purchase my food which are wings and fries. I realize they don't give me any sauce for my wings. Now, wings ALWAYS comes with some type of sauce whether it's ranch or bleu cheese. I ask for ranch and he tells me it's an additional charge. I've used all my cash to buy the food that I could've easily paid with my credit card. I ask if it's possible to just give me ranch with no charge and he says no. I walked away pretty disappointed. Did not take credit and couldn't possibly give me sauce for free which is probably one cent per pour. Yep. Sorry. Bad review. read more

Foodie Call: always there when I turn around, at a cool dive bar. Or my homebase for bama gamedays. The burgers are always the best. My boyfriend and I like to split them just as a nice hearty snack. Just tell them to cut it in half if you are splitting a burger with someone. I've had the #1 and it's always amazing and we just had the jalapeño burger bc my bf loves spicy things and it's his bday and omg this burger is also perfect. I'm not surprised. I probably wouldn't have been able to eat a whole one because it's so deliciously spicy and I can't handle much spice. But it was still extremely tasty, like always! read more

these guys were parked outside the Rusty Nail when i went last thursday night and people in my group kept bringing back fries for the table to snack on. they were so good i finally broke down and bought myself my own batch so i wouldn't have to share. perfectly crispy! perfectly satisfying. i'm excited to try their other food, but so far, 3 thumbs up. read more

we recently had a party catered by the theard brothers with their food truck known as "foodie call". we started with party platters served in the kitchen. wonderful italian meats and cheeses served with french bread crostinis and an antipasti platter with a light fresh white bean salad, roasted eggplant and diced potatoes (i think) and a salad with roasted beats along with assorted olives. in addition to the platters we had a server pass hors d'oeuvres of foie gras corndogs (yep, foie gras corndogs!) and jalapeno duck poppers. both irresistible! now for the food truck fare (all of which sounded fantastic but unfortunately i had room for only two items) first, the boneless bbq rib tacos - spareribs covered in spicy bbq sauce and a cool coriander aioli dressed with slaw made of shaved brussel sprouts, roasted red pepper and pickled onions on corn tortillas. these were so yummy that less than 2 hours into the party they were all gone! my next sampling was the porchetta sandwich: roasted pork wrapped in bacon dressed with seasonal greens in apple vinaigrette. this is normally served on ciabatta bread but i had it in a corn tortilla which was fantastic. other menu items that got rave reviews were: poutine - beer battered fries covered in roast beef gravy, mozzarella and cheddar cheese curds; double cheeseburger; and 3 cheese sliders which appeared to be on grilled french bread sliced on the diagonal served with home made tomato soup. i think i also spied some small bowls of macaroni and white cheese. desserts were served indoors and consisted of wonderfully chewy mocha brownies and the moistest lemon squares i've ever encountered. eric and paul (?) and their two female helpers were great - very accomodating and happy to share their great food served from a revamped bunny bread truck. if you are looking for a fun, different type of party to have i highly recommend hiring these guys to cater your next party. it was a little difficult to get in touch with them - i had to message them on facebook - but once i heard back from eric he was a pleasure to work with. while my only experience with foodie call was at a private party, if i ever see their truck parked in front of the rendezvous or elsewhere, i'm making room for something to eat! read more
