I was bummed reading other recent reviews about Taceaux Loceaux. I went last week and had a very pleasant experience. I went on a Thursday evening and it was not super crowded. I started with their housemade hibiscus margarita with a tajin rim instead of salt. I thought it was good and not too sweet. The tacos, to me, were delicious. I think they have an option for anyone and they have some pretty unique combos. I loved the Korean inspired taco and their classic brisket taco. I did go for the tacos but I did get to try their guacamole and the amazeballs. The guac was not the best and you don't get much -- could've used more seasoning. I liked the amazeballs + they come with a really good chipotle aioli. I think this place has some things to work on while they get situated from reopening but I do think they have some great tacos! read more

I went to their location in the Saint Roch market. the man who was behind the counter, was on his phone and did not even look up when I was standing there looking at the menu. I understand that probably a lot of people do that and look at different places so they don't always order. However, I had to interrupt him to get his attention to place my order for nachos. . Our server and the kitchen were fully overwhelmed, the air conditioning wasn't working - it was more comfortable outside once we left! They were out of all sorts of things but had no way of designating that on the menus. My friend's food came incredibly late - the apparent manager on duty apologized that the food was coming out in the order it was entered and so couldn't just get a single shrimp taco made when we'd been waiting 40 minutes. And then the shrimp texture was gummy? I don't know how that can happen. They could have kept the drinks coming while everything else fell apart, but that didn't happen. I really really wanted to love this truck. I followed the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain and closed out my night (albeit a lot early than Anthony) in front of Kingpin, eating tacos. Side note: I took a minute to reflect on the importance of mental health and reminded myself to try and be there for the people I love. Back to tacos. All the elements of a good taco were there, but there were a few missteps that night. The corn tortillas were not warmed property and were dry and hard. The carnitas and carne, both overly salty, didn't have enough fresh ingredients to balance them out. I found myself wanting a salsa bar, or a beer. I wanted to love it because I had some great tacos during their first existence on Octavia. They were out of the tacos I wanted (brisket) so I tried the carnitas taco and the steak taco. Neither were great but neither were bad. The margarita was nothing special. The restaurant was full so we sat at bar next to window. It. Was. Hot. Everyone was fanning themselves. It seems like I have been hearing the praises of Taceaux Loceaux ever since I first joined Yelp. Since the city has convoluted rules regarding food trucks they move around a lot. Every time they visit a location they tweet their current location. Problem is that I never seem to be in the area when they set up. I was determined to try their food so I started paying attention to their pattern. Every Wednesday I noticed they were on Carondelet right off of Calliope. That isn't too far from work so I knew it was only a matter of time before I got to find out what all the fuss was about. The process was super easy. I walked up, ordered and a few minutes later had my food. Who knew a food truck could be so simple? I sure didn't, but I guess simplicity is a big part of the reason food trucks exist. Rather than just stick to one thing, I decided to sample both the brisket (Messing with Texas) and the pork (Carnital Knowledge). The brisket was excellent. I would go so far as to say that it was the best taco I have ever had. I have no idea what they did, but this thing was awesome. The pork was not so good. It was dry and too salty. I'm not sure if it's the allure of the food truck, but I'm loving this place at the moment. Though not completely Mexican/Latin American, this food truck serves up a storm on even weeknights with their brisket, BBQ, and delicious vegetarian options (with clever names). Oh, and did I forget to mention their battered avocado fries? They're the best thing NOLA offers to my belly. I've tried just about half of their options so far, and the brisket was one of my favorites. It erred on the saltier (and somewhat spicy) side, but the cilantro, radish and rest of the garnish gave the taco a fresh twist. I also really enjoyed the BBQ pork, which had a pineapple salsa that was also delicious despite my dislike for sweet in my savory food. The best invention (or adaptation) of theirs, is the avocado fries. At a hefty price of $5 for about half an avocado (sometimes a little more), these battered wonders come with a delicious aoli that will disappear in no time! Not to worry, these minute-appearing eats actually fill you up quicker than you think! Another plus side of this food truck? Its stop is always two steps away from a watering hole. I had to experience what everyone was talking about... Taceaux Loceaux, Taceaux Loceaux, Brisket, Taceaux Loceaux...is all I've been hearing. A Taco Craving was in full effect, so I jumped on twitter to find their spot for the night. They tweeted 45 Tchop approx 7pm. So the mission began. Hours passed as I waited for 7pm. I tried to nap but had visions of tacos dancing in my head. Once I arrived to the less than desireable part of town, I safely parked in Rouses lot and staked out the truck. Upon arrival, they weren't open, but I could hear the chatter from the open door of 45 Tchop less than 2 feet away... if I'm going to wait, I might as well have a drink *uhem* I mean, stay out of the cold... into the cloud of smoke I went as I patiently waited their opening. A quick 15mins later, they were open. With no line, they so kindly allowed me to split the double taco tray into 2 types of tacos. --I'm a girl who can't make up her mind -- one BBQ pork and one infamous brisket. A steep $7 and a couple minutes later, I scooped up my plate and rushed off to my car. I normally take photos for the yelp crowd, but these tacos didnt last. The BBQ sauce was so unique - not sure if they make it themselves but its DAMN good! The brisket, slightly charred flavor with a light oil coating on your tongue. Crisp radish and fresh cilantro add texture and another layer of flavors. I loved these tacos!! I actually thought the BBQ pork was better than the brisket. I sat in my car gazing at the truck wanting another taco. Just one, a little more BBQ sauce is all I need. I resisted and quickly regretted it. Rule #1: 2 tacos are not enough. Double up! I do love food trucks and I'm only sad that TLNOLA is not often where I am. They do offer some delicious food. And the worker bees are always friendly, fast and helpful. I just wish that they had more inventive non-meat selections. Although when they have their fruit drinks (usually at day events) those are amazing. Veggie choices on Saturday night were a sauteed swiss chard which they gladly gave me a sample of...it was tasty but not what I was wanting. So I went with the standard rice & beans. read more

I've grabbed tacos from here a number of times and I'm sure I'll continue getting tacos from here in the future. I always get one order of the Texas brisket tacos when I go. The meat is nice and flavorful. At times it can be a little dry but the flavors are still good. The pork taco is also a favorite of mine. The thing that surprised me the most on the menu and what I think the everyone should try is the avocado fries. I'm wary to weird avocado dishes because avocado like bacon people seem to be putting on everything. Que the Cypress Hill Song! "Are you ready to go Loceaux?' Well the 'Messin' with Texas' taco....excuse me taceaux, had me going Insane in the Membrane. Probably the bestest tasting taco I have ever eaten! The brisket had that unbeatable charbroiled flavor with cabagge, cilantro, some sort of sauce and radishes. Yes radishes. The last time I heard of anyone eating radishes was on Fraggle Rock but hey it totally works! I also had the special shrimp taceauxs of the night. I wasn't as impressed by these. They were just ok. I'm not as big of a seafood taco person as others. They always just seem bland to me. They also had "avocado fries" which are lightly breaded fried strips of avocado. They were pretty good but as someone once said "you could deep fry a turd and it would probably taste ok". These are no turds, these are good. An order of taco's come in 2's. So the lady friend and I split 4 taco's and an avocado fry for only 20.00. Can't beat that. Taceaux Loceaux is smart enough to park in front of different bars that don't serve food so you can get some grubs and a few brews. With high expectations from Anthony Bourdain and high frustrations from not being able to track them down the first couple times (my fault) I was excited to try these tacos. There aren't tons of taco options in New Orleans m, either. I had done a bit of a food crawl already this day so I just got an order of the Texas Brisket tacos ("messin with Texas" is the name). The $4 per taco is borderline overpriced to me, but they squeak by. These tacos aren't rigidly authentic but still very good! The Brisket was allowed to take center stage and it was very well cooked and very tasty. I wish I had the tummy space for more tacos as the Chubster (ground beef) tacos were coming out one after another and highly recommended (and after a ground beef taco tragedy in Nashville *cough* Mas Tacos *cough* I was curious to see them done right). It was love at first bite!!!! When I chomped down into the shrimp taceaux, I almost past out! It was amazing. Mainly because of that special sauce added to the taco that makes it very unique. It instantly appeals to the senses with its tangy, sweet flavor as it explodes from your taco. My first time trying it was during a movie production school project last year. I had to pick up the food for the day and when I first saw the truck I thought, "What is this concoction?" But, boy when I made it back on set! People were all over those tacos. Doesn't get any better for food trucks, or for tacos in New Orleans. Check their twitter for their current location; I love to make an evening of cigars and carnital knowledge when they set up at Dos Jefes. They have a rotating menu that always includes a vegetarian option and staples such as the Messin' With Texas (Brisket) or Carnital Knowledge (pulled pork). Different tacos appear on their menu every night; gulf shrimp tacos one night, fried acvocado tacos another. Just gawk at the chalkboard, walk on up and order your tacos and they'll be ready in no time. They have sheets of aluminum foil to take away and a variety of hot sauces on the side to spice up your food to taste. Taceaux Loceaux is what I've always though New Orleans food is supposed to be - cheap and amazing. This is a must visit business. A very painful admission after being a HUGE supporter for so long. Even more painful to take this off my 5 star review list. The last 3 times I've gotten food from the truck, the owner has been nowhere around and the food has been less than stellar. Dry "messing with Texas" and a real lack of condiments given. Last time I actually had to ask for more sauce because it was just so dry. The last time I hunted them down in Federal City, the meat was so overcooked as to be horrible. I worry that they are getting too complacent and not putting in the time to their business that it needs. A great idea can be killed by shoddy execution. If the level of food was as bad as it has been the last 3 times, the first time I'd eaten there, I'd never have given more than a 2. I give the last star for the memory of how they used to be. Sadly, I doubt I will be going back so this is really a lie of a review and I should take off a star...But I'll leave it as it is...for now. A sad day for a huge ex fan. read more

Taceaux Loceaux... I have been waiting about a year to try this, and it did not disappoint. I'm hardly ever in NOLA late at night. I can't hang that long - I have no alcohol tolerance after having a kid, and bedtime is usually 10pm :( Ugh. I'm old. Anyway, I found myself at Dos Jefes and Scott S wondered aloud if TL would be making an appearance. I tracked them down on Twitter, and sure enough, they were making their way to Dos Jefes around 10pm. I stuck around and finally got to try Messin' With Texas. I'm not a huge red meat fan, but I've heard awesome things about their slow-cooked and amazingly seasoned brisket. It was great! Daniel, the fiance, tried their Aieee - loaded with andouille and peppers. I tried a bite and that was equally awesome. Eventually I'll have to make a repeat trip. I am sad that I have to stay out late at bars to get a Taceaux Loceaux chicken taco (actually 3 tacos). I happened to catch them a while back at Tuesdays Farmers Market on Broadway. These tacos were the best tacos I have ever had. I suffer frequent food flashbacks of their spicy, crunchy, tangy delicious chicken tacos coated with a layer of the spicy (Rooster?) sauce they serve. These tacos are GOOD. Don't let the people from New Orleans, Maryland, New York and where ever else tell you that the only reason people like them is because there is no good Mexican food here--I am from Texas so I do know what good Mexican food is and I promise these tacos are actually good. I've tried the Messin' With Texas (brisket, cabbage, radishes, cilantro, crema, salsa on flour), Carnital Knowledge (carnitas--pork, cabbage, radishes, cilantro, chipotle aioli on corn) and Duck on the Truck (duck, cabbage, citrus chile salsa, chipotle aioli on flour). The meat was well seasoned and marinated and cooked perfectly, especially the brisket and duck. The tacos were perfectly filled--not over or under--when we went and they were using decent tortillas. No, the tortillas are not homemade, but they also aren't Mission brand (thank goodness) and are heated before being served. It's true, they are a little expensive for a "taco truck", but 3-4 dollars for a really good full taco is not a bad deal. Their one man (or woman) system of taking orders, cooking all of them, then taking more orders can make the wait a little long, but it's definitely worth it. We have stopped to grab tacos then jumped in the car and driven back to Metairie and they were still just as good as eating them right away. Otherwise, take advantage of the bars they park in front of regularly--they will let you come inside with the tacos, but definitely throw them a couple bucks and order a drink so they keep inviting the truck back! Good thing I was surrounded by friends, because I am fairly certain that I was making uncontrollable, inappropriate noises of pleasure while eating my taco (heh). It was the perfect mix of flavors and textures, and the guy working the truck was super nice. Maybe it was the two joie de vivre cocktails I had already had by that point, but I really enjoyed my taco and will definitely be seeking them out in the future to try out more things on the menu, which I'm sure are executed equally as well. We are happy to have discovered Taceaux Loceaux via Twitter. I'm from Arizona, and until recently, I'd been constantly disappointed by alleged "Mexican" or even "Tex-Mex" offerings in the city, as well as starving for some good carne asada or carnitas. Besides the taco/taceaux truck, TL is now serving from an outside window at the Chickie Wah Wah on Canal Street, beginning at 6:00 p.m., I believe. (Follow them on Twitter @TLNola for more information.) For less than $20, two can sample several different types of tacos, which are all incredibly delicious. Favorites include the Messin' with Texas, a shredded beef taco topped with radishes and crema, among other things; Carnital Knowledge, your basic carnitas; and Kermit's BBQ, sort of a jerk pulled pork with pineapples on top to cut the acidity of the sauce. The chips and salsa are also good, though the salsa verde is the star. Remember to bring your own drinks, or you can go inside the bar (may have to pay a cover if there is one) to order something; beware the $10 card minimum. TL takes cash and cards, via its new and very awesome Square attachment for iPhone, which allows them to swipe your card, process the payment, and have you sign right there on the iPhone screen, making a quick bite there even more convenient. Well I've tried this place twice now and I must say that I'm not impressed. I've tried three different versions of their tacos and as munched as I've tried to like this place given the reviews I have to pass. The brisket was greasy, the chicken was tasteless and I though I was getting a pulled pork taco and what I got looked to be chopped grilled pork chops. I LOVE TACEAUX LOCEAUX!!!!! I can't yell it or scream it or say it enough. Hands down I NEED it and I GOTTA have it. I have literally followed this truck around the city...No i'm not ashamed to say that. The Messin' With Texas and Chubster are my two favorites. I'm a beef kinda girl and I get my brisket fix and my ground beef fix. The best thing is that TL doesn't skimp on portions, you may be nervous because it's only 2 tacos, but trust me, those two tacos are more than enough. But i can't lie I've gone back and ordered seconds lol. They're just that damn good. I'm a fan and I will always be a fan. I'm always in countdown mode until I'm at the truck again. Best Mexican food I've had so far in the city. I am a recent transplant from Los Angeles, so here's the obligatory "I know Mexican food" statement: I know Mexican food. I find that you can easily compare Mexican food joints by ordering their carne asada. TL does not have carne asada, but they have something nearly as good: the brisket taco. Tender, flavorful brisket topped with fresh veggies in a warm tortilla. Not Mexican food, but delicious Southern-Mexican fusion. I also tried the carnitas. It's not traditional, but the texture and flavor of the pork mixed with the creative toppings were quite a treat. These are good sized tacos too, not the bite sized 3 for a dollar deals you get at the border. For 2 bucks a pop it's quite a value. Caveat: I ate here late at night after some beer, but that's probably the best time to be eating tacos anyway. TL can't quite stack up to some of the best Mexican joints I've been to based on pure authenticity, but it's delicious food that you'd be hard pressed to match in New Orleans. As a taco truck, I'd give it four stars, but as a New Orleans taco truck I'd give it six. So five it is. If you can manage to track them down you'll be in for quite a treat. read more
