While we were waiting for our hotel room to be ready we decided to head to the grocery store to pick up supplies at the famous Foodland supermarket, which is a must-stop anytime visiting Hawaii. First thing we noticed was that the prices here were way more affordable than Maui. We went to costco beforehand because we didn't want to pay inflated prices for things like water and liquor but honestly it was pretty comparable. Of course we had to get the poke here. They have so many options and flavors that you really can't go wrong. We asked the guy behind the counter what he recommended and he had just made a fresh batch of their spicy poke which was delicious. We also got the californian poke, but that was just alright in comparison to the spicy poke he made. I think the trick here is to just ask what's the freshest and go with that. While the poke gets a lot of love at Foodland, the low key superstar is their fried chicken. Warm, cold, room temperature, it's hella good. We tried their salt and vinegar wings and their garlic fried chicken, and it was some of the best bites on the entire trip. Definitely don't skip out on this on your next trip to Foodland! read more

Whenever we visit the islands, our first stop is inevitably Foodland to pick up our beloved poke, Roselani's Haupia ice cream, Manoa chocolate bars, and snacks. But this time, whoever made the poke, it tasted like no one cared -- the pieces were cut irregular and not uniform in size, the taste was bland, and the Friday special shrimp poke was tasteless, as well. Whatever happened, we did not return for the duration of our trip nor are we likely to return. Poke heaven, and deep fried chicken skin served with a small cup of Patis & Vinegar for dipping. Anyone visiting Hawaii needs to put Foodland on their bucket list. The guys know how to make Poke. We had one pound of Limu-Soy Poke and one pound of Maui Onion & Mayonnaise Sriracha sauce, some ONO! Broke da mouth. On the way out of the store we passed by a table with plastic containers filled with Deep Fried Chicken Skin. Picked up the only small dish left on the table and it was still around $8.00 -/+. Driving to our Aunty's home in Ko Olina, the smell of the Chicken Skin was driving me crazy. Couldn't wait to get to the condo. I glanced really quick at front of store , gift and plant section, since I might end up buying plants and cute trinkets. The poke section is all the way in the back, if its super busy - you will have to pull a number to be be served. The cashier are friendly and quick, I never had problems with my purchase. The lines do get long but I noticed there are more registers opened up when it gets packed. Back at the hotel and my family are sure enjoying the poke and the crab for me, make sure the pot of rice is cooked! hehe. If you haven't tried the king crab poke, you are missing out! I adore foodland and this location is one of my faves since it's so close to my office. It's easy to navigate - not super crowded and has evertyhing you need. Totally off-topic, but one of my favorite Covid memories was a visit to foodland after I heard that everything was going to shut down. Yes, a rumor that spread way too quickly and was ridiculous, but it gave me the excuse to have a crazy shopping spree at Foodland -. Pasta, frozen meat, rice, anything even if they weren't on sale! Normal visits to this spot are still fun - sometimes I find random deals like maika'i Mac and cheese on clearance; $6 Friday deals, $6 Kalua pork deals, $6 sweet potato pie (my coworkers weren't fans but my husband loved it!), and yummy poke, of course. And one of my favorite parts of foodland is that it is a local business that supports our community and offers products we love. I adore their kaki mochi snacks, adorable bags and bowls, and musubi and poke treats. read more

Located in Kapolei Village Center this Foodland is stunning as it's obviously new but the layout is nice and roomy with each section has a huge sign so you know if you're heading in the right direction with Bake Shop, Butcher and of Poke just to name a few they also have R.Field Wine Company right in the middle where you're able to find various cured meats and condiments along with cigars as well. All this in a grocery store where you're still able to find all your necessities and I do love that they carry many local items to support our small amazing biz along with the most fun and expressive eco shopping tote bags that I do have a difficult time resisting, Foodland is a place to find the usual and unusual items making it easy to get everything that you need. This Foodland is near a Foodland Farms, but it is a great alternative. Pricing is fair and competitive with other grocery stores in the Kapolei area. I choose to come here in place of Foodland Farms at times when I need more basic ingredients or items. Parking can be tough at times because it's a small space for so many businesses, but the plus side is you can also find street parking if necessary. read more

10/12/23 - This review is for the Foodland at Kapolei. We purchased the fried chicken thighs on special ($17.99/10 pc... reg $2.99/ea). I've purchased the same fried chicken at the Kailua Foodland which was cooked perfectly. The chicken thighs were breading was crispy and tasty. The meat was tender as chicken thighs dark meat should be. Unfortunately, the fried chicken at the Foodland in Kapolei was inedible. This Foodland location has it all! They have a great selection of food she drinks. The store is very clean and organized. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One staff member...I forgot to her name was very helpful to me a first timer to this store helped me out to find some drinks and groceries. If I'm ever back in Kapolei and need food and drinks...this will be the grocery store I'll be going to. The only thing I could minutely complain is they need more parking. Came in today for some produce for dinner. When I entered, I was greeted by a nice security person. He is always so nice and helpful. I walked into the produce section finding all of the vegetables that I needed. This Foodland has good fresh produce and it's rare that I find bad produce. They have a great bakery section and love that they sell individual cupcakes in separate containers for birthdays. I think that's pretty awesome! They are always stocked with lots of fried chicken and salt and vinegar wings especially when there is a line. Their poke counter is always busy when I'm there, but the employees are always friendly and patient with the long lines. The poke selection is big and tastes good! It is located in a great location which is in a strip mall with many different restaurants and close to the hotels in the area for tourists. They also have a coffee bean & tea leaf inside which is plus and good sales and decent prices. This is my go to grocery store! read more

Many of the locals said the best place to come for Poke was Foodland. During our 7 day stay, we were there 4 times. The young man @ the counter was so helpful. He mentioned the bowls are a better deal than ordering Poke alone. You can upgrade for the poke quality which is a great savings. The store has an Ohana feel. I have been shopping at this particular Foodland at least 3-6 days per week for about 10 years. Prior to that I shopped at the Makawao and Kihei Foodlands on Maui for decades. I've known the names of most of the cashiers and appreciated their help. I still do. Today I had an unacceptable experience. If it was just an issue with the checker I would not be yelping. I was out on a walk and decided to get some fruit and a tall boy Chelada for my husband. I'm 62 years old! I thought she was joking when she asked for my ID... I have never in my gazzillion times been asked for my ID at Foodland I joked about it. She wouldn't ring me up so I said I'd go to another line where the cashier knew me. Then I saw the manager who knows me, at least by sight, so I figured she'd take care of it. Not!! Such a lost moment for a manager and her employee to be kind to a loyal customer. read more

We went to Foodland daily! For our baon (lunch), merienda (snacks), daily coffee and souvenirs. It's a one stop spot! It was a treat to have fresh poke, cut fruit and Grab & Go food for our vacation. Hawaiian & Shoyu Tuna Poke were our favorite varieties. We would get half a pound of each and 2 scoops off rice. The kids loved the Spam Masubi and California Rolls. For snacks we enjoyed the Diamond Guava Biscuits, Hawaiian chicharron and fresh cut pineapple with lihing. We also tried the POG spritzers. What a wonderful surprise! My bf and I visited this Foodland by default. We were going to the Mahi ai Table restaurant and did not realize it was in this market. This market is located in an outdoor mall with decent parking. It was clean, well organized and filled with great finds! They had amazing prepared food, a beautiful fresh fruit selection, an enormous poke selection, prepared sushi, tons of meat, cute gifts, a good alcohol selection, a wonderful selection of other items (several from local companies) and much more! It was a fun shopping experience. It reminded me of a large Whole Foods Market but with better prices. The best part about the market was the service.
